The Brigadier finally got his wish.
He met an alien that *wasn't* immune to bullets.
Finally
I'm sorry I didn't see this years ago. I really did like The Brigadier.
Episode Like these Me Made Want Episodes Where the Doctor Works With U.N.I.T.
That why he went to face the Destroyer he wanted to see it work for himself. That and he's earths best defender.
He got that with the Ogrons way back in the 70's.
"I just do the best I can."
This sums up why the Brigadier is one of the greatest characters ever.
How prophetic was that statement "You were supposed to die in bed" because as we know that's precisely where the Brigadier did die, in a nursing hospital
Harry Hayfield Most people die in bed, I would guess.
In one story, all the Doctors visited the Brigadier on his deathbed. So, 7 may have remembered visiting the Brigadier six or seven times before he died.
"Pitiful. Can this world do no better than you as their champion?"
No, the Brigadier is the best Champion we could hope for.
Personally I’d like Captain Jack as a champion. I mean, he can’t die
He really is the best. Brave, selfless, kind, but entirely mortal and human
Courtney was such a badass.
"Can this world do no better than you as their champion?!"
"Probably"
Agreed 😂😂😂
I really want another "School Reunion" esque episode but with Ace!
We need to make time with these companions while we still can.
Read at childhoods end. That will do the trick
They were meant to have ace in torchwood after they had mentioned a charitable earth
@@tardisglitch547 I think they were also supposed to have her in the Sarah Jane Adventures but Elizabeth Sladen passed away
@@JoelTBarrett yeah that was what was meant to happen I thought it was torchwood for some reason
@@tardisglitch547 oh ok, it would of been fantastic to have a sarah/ace team up
The Doctor taught the Brigadier Venusian aikido in his spare time! 0:34
Specifically, Pertwee's Doctor taught him that Time Lords have a vulnerable nerve cluster in their shoulder, just in case UNIT ever had to deal with the Master while the Doctor wasn't available. Hugely ironic that the Brigadier then uses that against the Doctor all those years later!
2:16 The Doctor predicted the future. 😢
Or he was already there. In fact, I believe (I could be wrong) in the comics, all incarnations of the Doctor attend the Brigadier's funeral.
SciFiBrony I know the Fourth Doctor was there for sure.
0:36 Ace calling the Brigadier a "scumbag" is *so* hilarious. 😂😂🤣😂😂
0:36 "You scumbag!" I was like "Ooooooo! You can't call the Brigadier that, Ace! Even though he did just stun the Doctor."
The brigadier was truly earth's champion and as the eleventh doctor once said that he just borrowed that title but he always returned it to the brigadier
Love the destroyer. He wouldn’t feel out of place in nuwho. Anyone agree?
the McCoy era demonstrates pretty effectively that there is a continuity between the two... err... continuities.
*Get off my world!*
I loved the extended version of this. He shoots it three times in the chest after saying probably and the destroyer laughs at him. Says that he does the best he can and shoots it a fourth time in the neck and that does the trick.
He faced one of the most powerful beings in existence. The Destroyer never had a chance.
Is it just me, or does anyone else find it a tad creepy that The Doctor knows how The Brigadier will die? He's still saddened when it happens and he's informed of it in the 2011 story 'The Wedding Of River Song'.
Does the Doctor then, have the knowledge of the deaths of all his/her companions, then? That's rather dark, actually.
@Jacob Wood -Yes, I can see that - but the Brigadier is a fighting man, and yet The Doctor says:
"You're meant to die in bed!", instead of facing down some enemy - it always suggested to me, that he'd looked previously. And knew. The Brigadier is his oldest human friend, and I'm sure that The Doctor's curiousity would have got the better of him. If that's true, would it have stopped at The Brigadier? I think not.
Not if you watch the 5 Doctors
where the Brig is retiring, & Doctor 2, turns up to congratulate him , as he read the new in "tomorrow's" Times
the brig was one of his closest friends, it makes sense that hed want him to live to a ripe old age
Well, I suppose with Eleven he wasn’t expecting his and the Brigadier’s time streams to have separated yet. The fact that he, with a time machine that can communicate with any era accidentally contacted the Brigadier after his death was an omen to Eleven that his own time was coming to an end as much as the Brig’s. Had he “phoned” any other time, he’d never have lost him. As for it being creepy, Time Lord’s are stated to be able to see the potential outcomes of most timelines they are connected with. It’s one of their abilities. They might not show it but it’s often been confirmed they can see those things. Ten does it when Adelaide kills herself in Waters of Mars. Seven of all of them would probably be the most inclined to manipulate the timelines, and thus probably had planned to shape events so that the Brig would live a long life. Much less than being creepy, it’s actually one of the most caring sides of the character. Shame that most of the other incarnations have been written as being scared to use their full level of power.
The Doctor topples over like a house of cards.
Started watching Classic Who last night, this is the first 7th Doctor Story I've watched. Such a fun and goofy episode! Instant recommendation for anyone looking to get into Classic Who!
As much as I enjoy Battlefield, I personally wouldn't recommend it to first time viewers of Classic Who...
@@peylix-ohm4701 Curious why not? I felt it was fast paced enough for modern audiences and just the right level of cheesy to be enjoyed on that level.
@@tacoman1592 It's a bit, well, rough around the edges, if you know what I mean.
Brigadier: omg its ze spaceship doctor look!!!!
The Doctor turns.
Gets knocked out by the Brigadier.
Ah yes, Venusian Aikido.
No doubt about it.
I wish they included Brig's first encounter with the Destroyer. The Doctor casually introduces himself to it, and then the Brig (who was completely unprovoked) immediately unloads his pistol right into its chest without saying a single word (which doesn't work because the bullets aren't silver).
Doctor: "Brigadier!!!"
Brig: "Well, nothing ventured, Doctor..."
Destroyer: "Nothing gained!" (launches the Brig face-first out of the tower).
“I just do the best I can”.
Gotta love the Brig... He is missed😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Chap with the horns... five rounds rapid.
My favorite from the classic series since I was a kid. Novelisation was great too.
My favourite Brigadier moment.
Watching this, sometimes I wish NuWho wrote a story where the fight was won with a gun. And not "Oh we won but at what cost" or using the gun in a clever not intended way. Go up to the villain, open fire, no mercy or forgiveness, and they _actually_ go down for once.
Sometimes, not always, but sometimes all you need to win a fight "five rounds rapid."
Nice monster, looks like a great episode.
The Destroyer: What do you want of me?
The Brigadier: Get off!
Ahhh, the Brigadier. The companion no one asked for, but the one the Doctor deserved (and needed more often than not).
"I'm getting to old for this sort of thing " NOT A CHANCE
I so miss the Brigadier, Ace, and 7. ♥️

The make up back then was just amazing!
Bi-bi-si You can make a journey through space and planets, and then each time on the ground
The Brigadier remains determinded!
And when the Brigadier is determinded
HE SHOOTS SOMETHING!!!!!!!
Brigadier Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart earths best defender
Wait they just made this video. 3rd wait did they delete the original?
Please upload something other than battlefield from season 26 :)
I love Ace and 7 came back to ask us to subscribe
The absolute Chad
Hurt wasn't the 8th or 9th, he was the 8 1/2 or War Doctor. But technically he wasn't the doctor at all, he broke the oath and ended the time war by killing every dalek and time lord (at least he thought so). 9th shows the doctor after the war and embodied all of the doctor's sorrow, loss, rage and hatred for not only the time war but for himself becoming not a soldier, but a killer. He tries to hide it, but there are moments when he looses control. Through regeneration and making lots of friends helped his soul, there are still times were the doctor's true nature comes out. But that's his true nature it's the scars of the time war. Eccleston was perfect for showing all the bottled up rage, but not much else. If there is a 14th doctor or whatever number doctor after the timeless child I'm hoping to see more of the doctor's dark side. All of his losses, the death that followed him, the fact that the bad guys and the monsters still survive, just push him over the edge. He is still going to (try) save the day, but maybe he shouldn't always try to save the villian from death (9th with Cassandra), maybe the doctor should be given enough darkness to do so. Maybe in the new story "Revolution of the Dalekssituation like the doctor's daughter, Jenny, and River come back but are permanently killed by a dalek/Davros while she (the doctor) was helpless to do nothing but watch. The dalek/Davros laughs at the doctor's pain, and she starts a dark road by causing the dalek/Davros to die slowly and painfully, which causes her "fam" to leave. She can do something like take a poison to make her current life end or her hearts just give out as she's lost her ability to go on.
0:36 Did Ace just call the Brigadier a “scumbag”? 😮
There's a dropped plot line about Ace an the brig arguing about who's looking after the doctor.
My english teacher!
Good
Apparently TimeLords have a button on their chest that turns them off. Good to know.
They have a nerve cluster that synchronizes the beating of their hearts, disrupt it and they go int arrhythmia and the consciousness shuts down to preserve oxygen while the hearts resynch. It works like a huge pressure point. Not fatal, but enough to knock them down and leave them feeling weak for awhile. The Brig, of course, knew that perfectly well, having used it on both the Doctor and the Master before on screen.
If the destroyer hadnt ripped a hole in his armour would the bullets have killed him? Can a soft metal like silver pass through armour?
Bullets are normally made of lead which is much, much softer than silver. Plus there's always the face
Hi
The Brigadier was going to die in the original scripts of this story but the production chickened out and got cold feet
Still less plot holes then season 12
No it should be Benedict Cumberbatch, James McAvoy, Ioan Gruffudd, Collin Farrell, Robert Pattinson, Jamie Bell, Tom Hardy, or Tom Holland. Other choices are Eddie Redmayne, Tom Hiddleston, Martin Freeman, Henry Cavill, or Simon Pegg. I'M SERIOUS!!!
With all the expanded backstory these days of how 7 was a master manipulator.
He knew exactly what he was doing here.
Right down to knowing the Brigadier would KO him and take the gun.
Nah, his whole reaction tells us this actually wasn’t a plan of his. He genuinely expected to have to do this himself.
I loved these!
Why can't I stand the latest incarnation?!
Too PC and preachy. It kinda went down hill once Capaldi took over really. He was a good doctor, but Clara was annoying and stole way too much of the spotlight. And that other companion, Bill was it? was hardly in it.
We went from a 9 in David, to an 8. 5 in Matt , to a 7 in Capaldi, to a 4 in Jodie.
im just saying who wants a doctor who movie
We already got one in the 90’s. It’s.... something
