the doctor was supposed to die permanently in his 12th incarnation only to impossibly revive

The fact that the plot holds up (as much as any DW plot does), it uses Timey-Wimey events and even has a clever twist for how The Doctor and The Master can share info secretly.
It’s a masterpiece in its way, poking fun in a way that manages to be reverential. It’s a tricky line to tread but it does perfectly.

Fantastic characterization, on point writing, minamalistic plot (no longer than it needs to be), good humor that doesn't detract from the plot and rather works with it, and some other details I'll explain later. Steven William Moffat. A lifelong Doctor Who fan who went from doing comedy sketches to actually running the show. I love the guy, even if I don't agree with all of his writing decisions. Whenever he hit a home run, it was due to his passion for Doctor Who and whenever he stumbled, it was also due to that same passion. He's always been a member of the fanbase and, aside from the original creators, there's nothing better than a professional writer who also happens to be a fan.

@Bwissrly1159 - Yes it's Rowan Atkinson who plays Mr Bean but in the UK he has been one of the most famous comedians on T.V. for 30 years. So although around the world he is best known for Mr. Bean in the UK he is known for tons of stuff and probably best known for a show called Blackadder.
