In this video I try the new Blackwidow V4 75% Custom Keyboard from Razer. Sponsored by Razer (WHO DID NOT REVIEW THE FINAL VIDEO): razer.a9yw.net/R5m4Zg
blud hearted his own message: MR HIPYO THIS IS EVIL i understand that premiers get interest and people can hit the bell BUT I DONT WANT OT WAIT 11 hours lol also this showed up on my subscriptions almost instantly. Keep up the good content hippo boi.
I'm super excited that you guys finally released your switches, they're my favourites and I've had to quit using my razer keebs as I've gotten into customs but I can't wait to put orange switches in my keyboard so there always will be a little razer in it!
As a complete noob to custom keyboards (this will be my first upon purchasing), I am hoping that your optical switches will become available, too. I have your Pro Type Ultra with "silent" Yellows. They are indeed silent. If unassembled from the keyboard. The moment the keys go on: clack clack clackety clack. I also have your Huntsman Mini with Reds. *That* is a silent keyboard and my favorite switch I've tried among Green, Orange, Red, Yellow, Purple. But if not, I'll keep trying out silent switches from other OEMs once I get my hands on this new product. :)
You guys should really update the Tartarus (or revive/create a product of that line) with some of your new switches. I've been dreaming for a Tartarus with red switches ever since I got my Huntsman v2 (even the yellow or oranges from this new blackwidow will be great).
@@telagabiroe8789 Not him but their mice are pretty meh. Older wired ones I've had with double clicking issues. Recently I've had a wireless Razer Basilisk V3 Pro and the first one just straight up died, the replacement the rubber band for the wheel is super thin and has loosened causing the hyperscroll to not work properly anymore. Also seems to have trouble reading inputs for about a second or so if you accidentally lift it up off your pad/surface even a few millimeters at times. Surprisingly that hasn't seemed to really happen in games but still, does not inspire confidence.
@@ROFLKNIEFGOESSLIECIve been using Razer mice for years and literally not a single one of them had any problems at all and thats especially imoressive because Im advanced level Fortnite player and I completely push mice to their limits. Viper Ultimate was the best and unimaginably durable. If someone described to me what Ive done to that mouse, I wouldn't consider it even remotely possible for a mouse to survive all of that, Im just immensely flabbergasted. I tend to rage too much, Ive broken many mice, multiple keyboards, 1 headset and 1 monitor, also dented one of my aluminum gaming laptops. But Viper Ultimate was just incomprehensibly tortured - Ive thrown it on the wall like 10+ times with a full or considerable amount of force, once I even slipped off my chair because of the inertia caused by swinging my hand to throw it on the wall. Many times it literally bounced off and came back to legs. Ive stepped on it. Ive smashed it on my desk many (MANY) times, my old mousepad still has the outlines of the shape of the bottom part of Viper's casing, thats how hard Ive smashed it. The rear area of the top shell is also torn apart but the top panel hides it. Last time I raged, I completely ripped up the left mouse button from the body of the mouse, even the point where it connects the upper side of the top shell, it completely came off and caused the top panel to fall off as well, which exposed the top shell and I stabbed it continuously a couple of times until I accidentally penetrated the battery with my knife, all the gas got released from the battery. I basically disconnected the battery cable from the PCB and just threw every part of the mouse in my drawer. After a couple of days I tried to reassemble it - placed the left mouse button back in its slot, barely fitted because the front side of the plastic was bent but I fixed it, put the top panel to hold the rear connection of the button to the shell, used double sided tape to hold the panel in place, plugged cable in the mouse (because battery is gone) and it works perfectly except the left mouse button is noticeably harder to click but I can use it in a regular way to play Fortnite without giving me the disadvantage. Even changed the skates. Basically it still works after just an indefinite amount of destruction. Viper Mini was also extremely durable but I never put it thru this much misery tho. So the statement of yours that they are 'meh' is just monumental absurd, Im absolutely positive that nobody has ever done that much damage to the Viper Ultimate specifically and it still works after all and Ive had no problems with any of the other Razer mice.
@@ROFLKNIEFGOESSLIECi got myself the basilisk v3 wired just because i didnt wanna deal with that eventually happening to me , ive been using it for 2 years and its still factory new
As a warning to anyone buying, I bought this product and it was phenomenal for about 6 months. After that, it started double typing on me. I thought "well maybe this is just an unusual defect" so i looked it up. Apparently quite a few people are having this issue with even the warranty units having the same issues a few months down the line. I wanted to see what the cause was, and after taking a multimeter to the switches and swapping out lesser used switches with the switches that are double typing, I do believe that the switches are indeed the problem. About 5 of my most used keys are having this issue. I can say that the rest of the keyboard is exactly as described above. Its a solid product, but if anyone is thinking about buying this, just be warned that you may need to swap the switches rather soon. Appreciate the video man!
I've had 5 different mechanical keyboards from different brands, all of them started to double type after a while. That is why I don't buy keyboards whitout swappable switches anymore.
They never should’ve gotten shamed hippo criticized them based on their sound and looks when the were never meant to look and sound good in the first place they were only made to give good performance in gaming
Sure they do. Razer support is horrible. They basically tell you to pay for Razer care or your out of luck. Also Synapse might be the worst software created on the planet. I bought a Razer webcam and synapse virtually crashes each time you change a setting. Total garbage.
You're not the only one that's fine with Razer Synapse, I have no issues with Synapse either. Synapse gets the job done just like with any peripheral programs.
I love Steelseries and Razer products I have Deathadder V3 Pro Wired version and Apex Pro TKL 2023 which is the fastest TKL keyboard on the market which is my preferred layout
Wow, I have problems with synapse all the time It crashes, it appears mud gameplay, mid windows installation (that's fucked up), can't get it to start, if I set it to not start with windows boot it breaks completely and I have to do a fresh reinstall, it doesn't change my mouse macros sometimes. It just doesn't work and crashes and breaks all the time, hate it, I'm thinking about changing my mouse to another brand just to get rid of that crap software, but it's good to know some people have no problem with it
Hi Hipyo! I love your vids. Quick note from someone who has worked as an ergonomist: wrist rests are not bad! In most cases, especially with mechanical keyboards (because they're thicker than other kinds) they are helpful for improving wrist alignment. There are different typing styles and they have their advantages and disadvantages. Most people will either have a "hovering wrist" which you do, or the "supported wrist". Hovering increases the muscle activity of your arms and shoulders because they're holding that weight up and this can lead to issues. If you don't have any discomfort doing this, then sure, having a wrist rest is not needed. If someone does want to support their wrists on a surface, thereby giving their arms and shoulders less work to do, then having a wrist rest at the height of the keyboard case is really helpful and can save a ton of people from carpal tunnel issues.
While this might apply only to the higher wrist rests, but my understanding was that you're not supposed to be using the wrist rest while typing anyway. The articles I've seen talk about how they're more for resting when not in the process of typing (which I suppose is the value with the hovering wrist rests if used properly). Mine is at keyboard height (medium height overall), and I only utilize it when I'm fatigued or resting momentarily between active typing).
@@glatt1817 There is a tradeoff for sure, and most people have a preference for one or the other but neither is correct as long as it keeps you feeling good. I've helped a lot of people with wrist pain reduce it or have it fully healed by making use of the wrist rest. Resting is important no matter what style you prefer, so if that's what you'd like to use it for then by all means!
Can confirm. Doing a data entry job gave me carpel tunnel issues and I tried to just hover and type. But because I typed so much, I think hovering was still activating muscles in my hands/arms to keep them level. So it didn't help nearly as much as getting a wrist rest did. Once I got a wrist rest, it allowed my muscles to relax much more and slowly helped over time.
interesting thought. i actually dont like wrist rests for this reason, because i was a clasically trained pianist (just play as a hobby now) and hovering wrists was one of the things drilled into me early on. just noticed i do this when typing and i never have any problems with it, so I guess that was a good habit that followed through to my typing. now i understnd that people who dont do this might need the extra support to keep their wrists up my thoughts are as long as you are comfortable typing for long periods of time and dont have any areas of sustained pain or pressure, your typing technique is probably fine for you, and for some people, that means using wrist rests help. but for people like me who have this habit, ive never experienced any aches or problems typing for long periods of time, thats also fine too
Thank you! I kept hearing that wrist rests are bad for me and it didn't make sense for me because of just how much more comfortable using one was. I can type pretty fast, but keeping my wrists was seriously uncomfortable for longer sessions. Does the wrist rest material make any difference for ergonomics? I'm on the lookout for a new one since the old one that came with my razer keyboard (I don't use the keep anymore, just combining the wrist rest with what I'm typing on right now) is showing its age.
I find it fascinating how different people's preferences can be. I noticed you mentioning the gasket and "bounciness" as a good thing; I've specifically placed most of my mechanical keyboards directly on a desk so they DON'T feel bouncy/mushy; I accidentally discovered the difference being on the table/desk surface alone vs being on a rubberized mat and now I just... can't go back.
I honestly think that Razer nailed this one, finally! It’s a nice mix of amazing gaming performance at a pretty good 75% layout that is unique and still deliver that “gamer” feel to it with Razer unique branding, and a quite nice typing experience with a decent sound profile directly from the case without the need of modding! (Even better than the Wooting on TYPING feeling, not performance). I honestly think If you’re a gamer and you’re not quite adapted to the 60% layout or just want a easy mass production keyboard or even just want something good out of the box, that delivers performance and specs close to a custom keyboard like: typing feeling, sound profile and etc, without the need of modding (which is 90% of customers, unfortunately people don’t have the patience to lube gaming switches for a entire afternoon), this keyboard can be the best option by far!
i dont know why you say its sounds "decent" when it sounds a lot better before the changes, the stock sound is the sound that everybody wants in their keyboards, sounds thoc.
@@juanpablohernandez3199 Yeah, I think it was better before the mod. The ping is a bit annoying, yeah but I prefer the sound and I don't like those keycaps.
Honestly the WS Standard switches like the Red, Yellow, Brown, Black, etc are excellent value and also prelubed really well. Similar to the Morandis, they don't need lubing. For tactile enjoyers who like medium weight and big initial bumps (hehe initial bumps), Wuque Studio Browns are amazing. They also make a Heavy Tactile and SIlent Tactile for those with other tactile preferences. I haven't tried the Auroras though
Personally, I fill all my keyboards with plastic explosive for the sound dampening. The ATF did not appreciate my creative mod until I showed them your channel. Thanks Hipyo!
While they definitely should market it mentioning its plastic and aluminum, they should do it in stride cause the mixing of the two provided more of a benefit with the sound. Overall with some more fine tuning of features and an extra mod or so this could actually be one of the better custom-gaming hybrid keyboards, definitely taking things in a really good direction.
It can be as complicated and expensive as you want, or vice versa :P I started with a 80 ish pounds GK GAMAKAY barebones kit, then just looked for prelubed switches and some keycaps that I liked the look of.
@@daunted232 My custom is only $89 and it sounds really good like an expensive one. GMK67 with lubed KTT Darlings and Aifei ABS Cherry profile Keycaps, not a single mod because I'm part of the clacky gang.
It's an expensive rabbithole which is totatlly unnecessary in the grand scheme of things. I would recommend you stay away, and if you want in so bad, then buy something of decent quality (hear "alu case"). I wasted 1.5k dollars in this hobby and I regret 1k of those.
It's not expensive unless we are saying "compared to a membrane". Sure it's a hobby, it's having higher standards is a totally valid thing to have though. Spending responsibly is of course required for any purchase. I don't think scaring people is the right way to do that. @@TheAlixSH
Re: wrist rests - I have legitimately injured my wrist from not using one. I bought a Ducky One2 mini as my first foray into good keyboards, and I used it without a wrist rest for a couple of weeks and ended up getting a repetitive wrist strain injury. It was also really uncomfortable because of the height of the keyboard. They do serve an important purpose for ergonomics, you just have to make sure you don't put your wrist at a bad angle from it being too tall.
Although it's a really nice keyboard (typing feel way better than Razer Huntsman), it has a MAJOR issue you should know before you buy it. After 4-5 months of active usage (gaming and programming) some keys) started to double-click. I thought cleaning the board will do the trick, however, it was only the short-term soiution, double-clicks persisted. Changing the switch did help, and now i have 7 double-clicking keys in the F row. Did some research and saw that a lot of people encounter this similar problem, which is, IMO, unacceptable for such a price tag. I'll be contacting Razer Support soon and we shall see how it will go.
@@kennY_72 Wooting is gonna be better if (and only if) you care about features like rapid trigger. If you want a general purpose typing/gaming board, both the razer and the azoth are better options
Got mine the day they dropped, I really like it! a Chroma enabled, hot-swap, 75%, factory lubed, tactile keyboard is just what I wanted. Changed the orange switches out for some 67g Zealios, added some durock stabs, some PE foam, and a set of POPkey Hello World caps.
as somone who has used gaming keyboards their whole life and was looking to get into customs im so happy they did this and im waiting for the 100 or 96 version. i love rgb and transparent text and i dont care that sexy at night rgb and synpase intergration for games and wallpaper engine just rocks. cant beat asus and razer rgb support and looks imo
@@ertgb_well, don’t forget about macros. You get more of them on the side with a 100%. That can be useful. But other than that…it’s just too big for just gaming.
Wrist rests are useful, you just don't have to use them incorrectly. You should get one with a hight that better fits your keyboard, and don't literally rest your wrists all the time in a locked position. It's best to use it as a guide to where to have your hands and glide across it, again, to not have them stuck in one place, so I suggest to buy one that is a bit firm and not too squishy. Also you should be using it closer to the palm of your hand, for both mouse and keyboard, pressing directly on your wrist and for too long can further develop carpel tunnel injury. And if something still doesn't feel right, adjust the hight of your chair to have your arms at a 90° angle.
I just started watching your videos over a week ago 'cause I'm planning on getting my first ever custom keyboard but I had no experience in it so I search on yt and found you're channel and you gave more confidence to build it, so thank you so much! W hipyo and W video! 1M SUBS BY THE END OF THE YEAR !!!
Obviously, Razer made the back plastic so that the keyboard would be more thocky. Don't hate on Razer for listening to you (and watching your videos). Yes, you yourself in one of your other videos stated that it was plastic, not metal, that made a keyboard sound thocky. And you and Razer seem to be correct, if this keyboard's acoustics are any gauge. After your mods, all I can say is that it sounds like your keys are made of marble. Amazing. I thought the keyboard sounded pretty good stock, and I dare say some would prefer that medium level of thock. However, you clearly like the more sophisticated, dampened, marble sound, like I'm standing among the ancient columns in the entrance of a library. An awesome library.
I actually own this keyboard (got it not too long after it's release), for the longest time I loved it. It still sounds and looks amazing! Buuuut (this is not an issue, just me being dramatic with a word), my issue has been found in the switches, or so I am assuming that is the issue. Randomly over the course of use, my keys began double and sometimes triple pressing when I would press the key. I decided to see if swapping they switches around to more unused keys would solve the issue and it did, for a bit. As time went on more and more of them just kept having the issue and it has gotten very frustrating. I am considering buying different switches soon, assuming that is the issue, otherwise I guess I will have to buy an entire new keyboard because I can not deal with this issue much longer, lol.
Hey,I know this is already a few months old comment, but did you eventually get to swap the switches? I did swap them on mine and the double typing started to happen with the new switches too, so just trying to warn you. Maybe its just my unit but I’ve seen multiple people complain too. Probably a PCB issue.
@@AB-vh2uu I actually have yet to swap them. I switched to a new keyboard I had at home, but not before the issue with the keyboard got soooo bad. That is very sad to hear that swapping them was only a temporary fix because I had planned on buying new switches and hopefully going back to that keyboard. Thanks for letting me know though! Guess I nerd to look I to something else 😔
@@Lexith03 I have seen different outcomes, some people say it helped and double typing is completely gone, some people say it came back. Not sure if it’s just a matter of time for everyone, or if some boards have just faulty switches, and some PCBs. You can always try to get the new switches, swap them and if it doesn’t help, just use them for another keyboard, its not gonna be a waste of money, since you can use them elsewhere. It is a shame, I do like the keyboard but this is pretty unacceptable. I didn’t even bother with a warranty claim, I’ll just get something different, that’s not a Razer. I still have my BW Chroma from like 2013 and it works just fine, I swapped to the V3 around two years ago and I couldn’t really stand how hollow and empty it sounded so I got this, and it’s just another disappointment. Blows..
I just got this keyboard 2 days ago, and I have to say I love it with all my heart lol, it's the best sounding and performing keyboard right out of the box I've ever had!
In terms of software i've always thought razer was kinda ahead of literally all of the competition. You can register your products for convenience with warranty. There's chroma support for some games which some people will hate but playing something like terraria with it and seeing the keyboard reflect your environment with it's lighting is just sick. Their rbg function on synapse is super nice to use and you can set profiles which is pretty neat. But what I miss the most with my new keychron is hypershift and the macros. I used to have a macro set to hypershift+mouse4 and it worked as an auto clicker. I now can't set an autoclicker to my mouse anymore without sacrificing one of my side button which I also use in other games a lot. and Im used to them going back and forward on webpages and such. Here's to hoping we're able to just buy pcbs from them in different sizes soon so we can customize their experience even further.
Apparently, they are also selling the razer greens, yellows, and oranges on their website in packs of 36 for 25 dollars. (probably not worth it with it being nearly 70 cents per switch)
I've never watched any of your videos. Didn't even know you existed. But thank goodness UA-cam recommended you, because this is gold tiert ech content.
Okay, I am also surprised. They definitely tried to do something a little different than the 2020 standard "75% gasket mount, hotswap" keyboard. Honestly more interested in tactile switches, because linears are just so boring. So long as its better than a Cherry/Gat brown, I'm sold.
Master, I bought a GXTrust Callaz and did a tape mod foam mod (soon to be traded to kinetic sand) and lubricated the switches. Now it sounds almost perfect.
Hope you're proud of me! Just got this keyboard on Amazon as a used item in (acceptable condition). Got this keyboard for $117 and everything inside still had it's original plastic as if never opened. Only the outside of the original box was damaged! And I LOVE IT!!!
I'm definitely impressed with this, I personally love the Razor clicky and tactile but I recently purchased an Azoth for about $10 more with a many more features and even with Blue's it's very quite even unmodified, more quite than the one you demonstrated, perhaps I just got a good one, who knows. Whatever the reason I'm very happy.
Any keyboard will sound a bit different in an online sound test than it does in person. There's a lot of variables other than the keyboard that affect the sound. The microphone Hipyo is using will affect the sound, its distance from the keyboard will to, as well as editing he does to the videos. Even the surface you are resting the keyboard on and the acoustics of your room make a change, which you can easily check by putting the keyboard on your bed.
Can you explain tactile switch to me? I love how this keyboard looks and an building a PC. But I amd reading people talking about tactile switches not being good for gaming? All I know is a keyboard is a keyboard, I just use "normal keyboards" so idk what the hell to look for haha
@@DomBogey94 There are really 3 types of switches or at least have been. Linear, Tactile and Clicky. A linear switch is a smooth press all the way down, a tactile has a bump when pressing down before it activates and a clicky had a bump like a tactile but also makes an audible click. Many people prefer a linear switch for gaming but some linear switches actually take a longer and/or heavier press to activate than some tactile switches. As most people gaming want a quick press to activate the switch for response times they tend to look to linear assuming that will be the case. There are some linear switches which activate very quickly and usually noted a "speed" switches. These are Razer's new switches that only have a total travel of 3.5mm. They still activate at a standard 2mm but reset at 1.8mm so they should feel faster than the standard "red" linears found in many "gaming" keyboards while also having a little more bounce when typing. This keyboard also has a very fast polling rate of 8000 hrz. Frankly unless you are a competitive gamer I'm not sure anything over 1000hrz, which is standard, is truly noticeable but more and more people seem to want it. All the reviews on this keyboard are good so if you are ok with Razer's software it looks like a good buy and should be an excellent keyboard for gaming. Just to note though that the latest trend for gaming are magnetic switches which would feel linear but use a magnet to activate and allow for the actuation point to be set differently. I noted 3 standard types, the more recently would include optical liners which actuate with light rather than completing a circuit then the magnetic. Optical linears are usually very fast actuation and light. This can be good for gaming but can also cause a problem in that sometime you might activate while just resting your finger on the key. Very light normal linears can have this problem as well. With the magnetic switches you could set certain keys to activate very quickly, say at 1mm, then have others more normal at 1.5mm or 2mm. The Wooting HE60 is probably the most popular of this type of keyboard and has recently released some AL kits to upgrade the standard case. Razer, Steelseries and soon Keychron and Corsair will have similar type boards as well. I'm not sure how much rapid trigger type magnetic switches truly make a difference for games other than first person shooters but as noted it seems to be the new trend. I hope this helps. For what it's worth I've played games of all types my entire life, I'm 53, and used all types of keyboards. Any board with nkey rollover should be good, you will get use to the switch over time and adjust IMHO. I'm currently gaming with a heavy linear, Gateron Oil King, switch but used a tactile, Glorious Pandas, for quite a long time. See how the board feels when you rest your hands on it, this is hot swap so you can always change the switches later if you don't like them. The feel of where your hands sit will be much more important long term IMHO. As noted in my original post the Azoth, there is a new one now too, is a very nice board for about the same price with a few more features which also has one of the fastest 2.4Ghz wireless connections possible. I personally always game in wired mode and my primary is a QK Neo65 but love the 75% form like this board as well.
@@MarbsMusic dude holy shit thank you, this was the bible of knowledge over here. I'll probably get it. I am not competitive gamer at all, so maybe I'll give it a try!
dude who... are you? I have never seen a keyboard review even CLOSE to as thorough as this. Keep doing you man. Honestly expected to see 500M subs not 500K. i dont think you're cat-butt-slapping enough in your videos tbh.
I think its pretty good because if you play competitive fps games and also want a nice sounding keyboard these are kind of the only options cause most custom have around 5-15ms actual response times while gaming focused ones usually have around 1ms
I'm so glad that a big company is finally making a 75% board. Too many of them kept making 60% boards which are really inconvenient for most people. 75% boards are great for people who constantly switch between a laptop and a desktop since it's the same layout. They really should've adopted 75% sooner.
it happened so that when this video dropped i was building pc after 12 years of break and was literally searching for a keyboard. I wanted a custom variant but also a "gaming" one. So after this the choice fell on blackwidow v4. I can say that after a month with it I'm totally happy with it. Still didn't mod it but in stock as Hipyo said its great. keeping in mind I can mod it at any time also pretty cool. Thank you for the video!
Good keyboard and a good step in the right direction for gaming keyboards, but with that price (190$US) is way too much, compare this to Akko 3084B+, also a 75% with foam and pre lubed out of the box (no tape mod though afaik), similar feeling and build quality and wireless capability, all of that for 70$US
I don’t know much about that keyboard, but part of the price is also the razer gimmicks. Roll wheel, multi media keys, RGB, synapse compatibility and 8000 polling rate, it’s a gaming keyboard with extra features most popular board in the mech community don’t have
@@EvanNeedsTherapy the 3084b has rgb, via support, 1000hz polling rate, etc. there's other models by akko like the 5075s that feature rotary knobs, so i wouldn't say that mechs don't have those features.
Right before building my recent keyboard I tried the Black Widow V4 and was very impressed. It is super impressive from such a brand. Of course a custom built keyboard can be better, but if you know nothing about keyboards, its better than a GMMK Pro and you can definitely choose a worse keyboard.
Don’t buy this keyboard the switches are faulty. I heard it still has problems when you swap out for new switches. I went back to corsairs K65 Plus wireless it’s a lot better sounding and a lot cheaper
I can attest to this. Had the board RMAd twice. Before the second RMA, I was told I can replace the switches instead of getting a new keyboard, so I bought Razer's green switches. Started key spamming within the month again. Went out and bought a Keychron. Still stuck with the Razer since you can't RMA a refund instead of a replacement.
hipyo!! i'm a new subscriber but i wanted to let you know that you inspired me to finally dip into a hobby that's intimidated me for years. i've finalized my first build and now i'm saving up for it! super excited, thank you for sharing your hobby with us and making it more approachable!!
So I would like to get my first mechanical keyboard and tried this at a best buy and loved the feel of this one in particular. I have a budget of $300-500 would you recommend a custom that has a feel very similar to this one that could be improved quality wise with switches or caps? I also own a Mac so customizing it with Mac caps would be nice.
I'm a noob who walked into a micro center and tried out ten keyboards on display. Knowing nothing about keyboard brands I genuinely liked this one the best, and I had no idea razer were shit on until hopping onto this vid
I RMA'd the keyboard twice for key spamming. I'm using the third one as my work keyboard since you can't get a refund after a certain point and I had 0 luck selling it for half off for a brand new board.
My first "custom" keyboard was when I took a broken Blackwidow v2 chroma and soldered Gateron Black Ink v2's. Mainly bc I was too lazy to setup rgb with any other software, and also because I was too cheap to buy a new PCB and plates, lol. Im still using it like 3 years later.
dude. I've been waiting for this because the razer RGB control goes fucking insane. you could probably make bad apple on this keyboard if you wanted to, just get some really bright switches and use the razer chroma control to spend 155 hours animating your keyboard for bad apple.
A few years later: key spamming issue occurs, no firmware for you, throw it away and buy a new one. Fact: this happened to my Razer Blackwidow v2 TE, as no firmware is nowhere to be found.
Honestly for a "mainstream" brand like Razor to make a board with all these features out of the box at that price point I'm actually impressed. While they obviously cut SOME corners with the plastic vs aluminum case design etc, they didn't skimp out on things that matter like some of the other brands do. I'd have no problem suggesting this as an intro custom board to people who want something a little more premium but don't want to do a full build.
I just got this because I wanted a Hotwappable keyboard finally.. Before I had the Blackwidow V3 Hyperspeed.. And let me tell you. The way this keyboard sounds in comparison.. NOW I UNDERSTAND. I might have to return this and build a keyboard. The spacebar is chefs kiss.
im new to this whole thing but I feel like once you replace the switches of a keyboard it becomes a whole new keyboard. I get the keycaps, aesthetics and feel, and also foam and other sound mods, but the switches is what makes a keyboard its own keyboard.
put morandi switches in my qk 100 with a carbon fiber plate from your previous reccomendations and they are so amazing. the perfect mixture of clack and thock and a heavenly feel to type on.
Don'tforgtto swap the switches on these things, thy are wellknown towr outinabout a month or two. Don't forget to swap the switches on these things, they double type and stop working in a couple of months.
Yep bought mine in April and double typing started only occasionally with R, I and V keys and now its like a 50/50 chance they will double type or sometimes the I doesn't even register.
I wonder if they can do a similar improvement for their optical keyboards as well. My Huntsman with Razer Purple switches is my favourite clicky board, despite its "overall horribleness". This is due to its "perfect" force curve, exact accuracy of the actuation point together with the click, and the short travel before actuation and a comparatively longer one after with a higher resistance than the tactile event. All of which making it a very unique switch, and making it the best board I've ever tried for typing without bottoming out while also using very little force. Thus it's by far the best board for not getting any fatigue even in very long typing sessions. Ironically, I use it for this, and not gaming as it's just irritating with its clickyness and rattling for that... There is no mechanical switch I know of like it though. (I've looked up a lot of force curves. Really a lot...) But the board rattles like hell with its horrible stabilizers, and it's very clicky, so I'm using my mechanical w. linear switches for everyday use and gaming. Would love to see that switch in a board like this! Although opticals are implemented quite differently I think, so Idk. how likely it may be.
Personally I would still prefer the ROG Azoth, it has all of these features, it's wireless, it comes with tools and lube, and you trade media keys for a OLED screen.

I bought two of these, one of the white ones and one of the black ones. Both started multi typing characters within 90 days (on a mac and a PC).. Unfortunate, it is a great feeling and sounding keyboard right out of the box.
definetely going to put some pudding or clear keycaps on that, just to make the led pop more and drowned in rgb lighting with synapse on while playing games.
i got the blackwidow v4 x and it worked perfectly until recently my U key started being unresponsive randomly 1 day and it got worse and worse until now i have to sometimes click it 30 times for it to type u, and now its spreading to my E and spacebar i dont know why
I listened to PC World's 'The Full Nerd' today and they talked about this keyboard. One interesting point mentioned is that allegedly there is a sticker over one of the bottom screws warning the user that opening the case VOIDS the warranty. I do not know if this is true, but I do not recall comments about this in your video. I did not see mention as I recall in the fan commentary. This could be important I suppose, but it would be a line in the sand before attempting to mod the interior. All external mods are okay, just don't break open the case, apparently.
Morandis? Again? You really like those switches. Thinking I should pick some up... Thanks for another great vid. Love the content! And my goodness! Marbly heaven in a Razer!
I dont know if you already kno wthis but there's an "plugin" a piece of software from razer that syncs in with your beats you make in "fl studio", an program for making music :)
I have had several older deathadders. They fit my big hands perfectly. The build quality was so so, the rubber sides fell off too early and i kept buying new ones to put on. Durability was low. This was the early versions of deathadder. I went to Zowie after and used them for many years. Been through many of them but ended up on fk1 for my fps gaming style. I got a cheap second hand Viper ultimate lately and I'm rocking It still. It's decent. I also have a razer ornata v3. I have been on the mechanical keyboard wagon for many years, had ducky, k70 lux and many others. I ended up realizing keyboards are not that important, so a cheap ornata on sale Is enough. But It's big for my setup now and I'm looking for something smaller. This keyboard looks great, but It's expensive and I could get any high tier mechanical also for this price. The only Issue I have with razer Is their disgusting software. I simply wont install It so my keyboard Is spewing out the random wave system In all colors when I have the pc on at night. It lights up the godamn bedroom.
This is kinda a bummer I’m in the market for a new small keyboard and I was looking at the v3 mini clicky and I thought it would be perfect but this would be even better if it just had clicky switches
I use a wrist rest to remind myself not to rest my wrists on the table XD Glorious does the misleading marketing as well - the top half is aluminum and the bottom part is plastic on the GMMK. They at least make the entire top out of aluminum, though.
That top-half-aluminium construction reminds me of my old Corsair K60. I really enjoyed the experience of that board, but with a whole section of the board being membrane, and the nonstandard bottom row, was a pain to customise. Eventually, the Ctrl key started acting up, and now I've decided to salvage the mx reds from it haha Something I like about gaming companies getting into keyboards is the potential uptick in ISO support. Still having a hard time finding a hotswap ISO board to my preferred specs.
I'd be curious if we ever see a manufactured product that gives similar performance to kinetic sand. All kinetic sand is made from is super-fine sand and PDMS oil for hydrophobic properties. Of course you can't really make a type of foam or deadening mat from sand itself, in the form of a singular sheet product, but I'd be curious if there's something comparable. I don't think I've ever come across a foam, mat, or barrier sheet that quite feels like kinetic sand does, but I also don't have multiple otherwise identical keyboards that I can A-B test with the various materials I do know of; though at the same time there are also a _ton_ of materials, even in the realm of just foam products there's a lot of materials to work through and that's before getting into blends. I do have some ideas, but I'm not entirely sure how they'd work in this application, though I'm also not sure how to get ahold of some certain materials to try out some of these ideas. Again it's the lack of having A-B testing in this specific scenario that makes me think a certain material might work but also gives me thoughts that the same material might not work.
In this video I try the new Blackwidow V4 75% Custom Keyboard from Razer.

I'm super excited that you guys finally released your switches, they're my favourites and I've had to quit using my razer keebs as I've gotten into customs but I can't wait to put orange switches in my keyboard so there always will be a little razer in it!
Make it wireless, coward.
How did you become a razer employee?
Another props is that they didn't half-assed this product like some of their others. This feels like an complete product

Appreciate the video man!
i have this problem but after 4 years so do take it with a grain of salt
I've had 5 different mechanical keyboards from different brands, all of them started to double type after a while. That is why I don't buy keyboards whitout swappable switches anymore.

It just doesn't work and crashes and breaks all the time, hate it, I'm thinking about changing my mouse to another brand just to get rid of that crap software, but it's good to know some people have no problem with it
The worst thing about it is that it appears at random times and always overlays everything else. That’s it
Once I got a wrist rest, it allowed my muscles to relax much more and slowly helped over time.
interesting thought. i actually dont like wrist rests for this reason, because i was a clasically trained pianist (just play as a hobby now) and hovering wrists was one of the things drilled into me early on. just noticed i do this when typing and i never have any problems with it, so I guess that was a good habit that followed through to my typing. now i understnd that people who dont do this might need the extra support to keep their wrists up
my thoughts are as long as you are comfortable typing for long periods of time and dont have any areas of sustained pain or pressure, your typing technique is probably fine for you, and for some people, that means using wrist rests help. but for people like me who have this habit, ive never experienced any aches or problems typing for long periods of time, thats also fine too
I used to really love stiff typing but now I go back and forth

They do serve an important purpose for ergonomics, you just have to make sure you don't put your wrist at a bad angle from it being too tall.
everyone has different arm proportions, long fingers people don’t need them
Although it's a really nice keyboard (typing feel way better than Razer Huntsman), it has a MAJOR issue you should know before you buy it.
Can confirm, mine is the same way, returning it.... such a shame

It's the keyboard. Don't buy a new one. I had to RMA my blackwidow v4 twice because it would start key spamming.
Forgot to mention that - I haven't tried the other switches yet

@@MarbsMusic got it, I really like the switches so far!
dude who... are you? I have never seen a keyboard review even CLOSE to as thorough as this. Keep doing you man. Honestly expected to see 500M subs not 500K. i dont think you're cat-butt-slapping enough in your videos tbh.
Hey, graet video, but i really have an important question since im new to custom keyboards, where did you get that PE foam sheet for the switches?
And here I am, seemingly still the only person thats not only content, but absolutely enjoying the general Razer Green Clickyness.
I think its pretty good because if you play competitive fps games and also want a nice sounding keyboard these are kind of the only options cause most custom have around 5-15ms actual response times while gaming focused ones usually have around 1ms
Fill a keyboard with pure molten uranium trust me it sounds so good and isnt radioactive in any way
I'm so glad that a big company is finally making a 75% board. Too many of them kept making 60% boards which are really inconvenient for most people. 75% boards are great for people who constantly switch between a laptop and a desktop since it's the same layout. They really should've adopted 75% sooner.
asus made one...
it happened so that when this video dropped i was building pc after 12 years of break and was literally searching for a keyboard.
Difference is razer 1ms input vs akko 10 ms input. You can't find 1ms input in any custom boards but these gaming ones
10:02 - lovely shot of the Focal Bathys 😊
It's too bad that i loved this keyboard...twice. And the keys stopped working twice...
Same here. For me, it was keyspamming. Had to RMA twice.
If only it had rapid trigger switches, a 75% competitor to the Wooting 60HE would be a dream come true!
Then it wouldn't be compatible with other switches :(
Probably the best sounding stock main stream keyboard I’ve heard
hipyo!! i'm a new subscriber but i wanted to let you know that you inspired me to finally dip into a hobby that's intimidated me for years. i've finalized my first build and now i'm saving up for it! super excited, thank you for sharing your hobby with us and making it more approachable!!
Knowing nothing about keyboard brands I genuinely liked this one the best, and I had no idea razer were shit on until hopping onto this vid
squashyboy was the real mvp here with his connection to razer
they listened to squashyboy's advice
Extremely Common W video from Hipyo
give me kilo fruit or i will destroy u
My BlackWidow V4 75% is the first keyboard I have to SEND BACK.
Constant phantom presses on the 'A' key.
Absolutely awful.
I RMA'd the keyboard twice for key spamming. I'm using the third one as my work keyboard since you can't get a refund after a certain point and I had 0 luck selling it for half off for a brand new board.
If they made it so this had a option for the green switches I’d buy the entire stock (I love clicky)
I'm just happy they brought back the Oranges, genuinely better than MX/Gat Browns, the rest is just a bonus feature
dude. I've been waiting for this because the razer RGB control goes fucking insane. you could probably make bad apple on this keyboard if you wanted to, just get some really bright switches and use the razer chroma control to spend 155 hours animating your keyboard for bad apple.
bad apple played on a razer keyboard when
@@floams I’m not that talented and I don’t have a razer keeb :(
@@Kenzie1051 imagine it tho lol
It would go crazy@@floams
hey man, i love this blue theme keycaps, do you know where to buy them?
1:19 That is some of the most cursed shit I think I have ever seen... I love it
IMO wrist pad gives you natural position of your wrist... I don't get tired with the pad.
I think the rgb is dimmer because the fr-4 opaque plate is made of a darker colour which in turn could minimise the potential rgb effect.
put morandi switches in my qk 100 with a carbon fiber plate from your previous reccomendations and they are so amazing. the perfect mixture of clack and thock and a heavenly feel to type on.
It's definitely a better value now that it's on sale!
I want to build a custom keyboard but I LOVE and can NOT live without Razer's amazing RGB customization
Make sure the audio is working.
bro I knew it was working before but now I have anxiety
hes got you stressing@@HipyoTech
I like the Glarses vibes, especially from the transition 😂
Who needs carpal tunnel when you can have…cat wrist?
As a razer shareholder i was very excited for you to review this product.
Cat: *bites you* “you don’t feed me when I want, you don’t work, you don’t shit”.
*doorbell*
Hippyo: Oh?
Razer: we listened.
Cat: Wow, it’s so strong and manly. It takes care of me and feeds me and even pets me and pays the roof over my head.
*the cat is making shit up because it’s random lol*
"$190 is a bit expensive"
meanwhile 2 days later
"this brand new $900 keyboard is a steal for such a cheap price"
I bought two of these, one of the white ones and one of the black ones. Both started multi typing characters within 90 days (on a mac and a PC).. Unfortunate, it is a great feeling and sounding keyboard right out of the box.
189.99+!?!?
even your cat seems to love the keyboard haha
definetely going to put some pudding or clear keycaps on that, just to make the led pop more and drowned in rgb lighting with synapse on while playing games.
The cat playing with kinetic sand, Love it.
i got the blackwidow v4 x and it worked perfectly until recently my U key started being unresponsive randomly 1 day and it got worse and worse until now i have to sometimes click it 30 times for it to type u, and now its spreading to my E and spacebar i dont know why
sound test : 7:00
Hipyo: Now, let's just say this is Razer's...
Me: Edge?
Hipyo: ... Best keyboard yet.
Me: Oh.
What can you recommend a budget friendly razer keyboard
Yeah, I really wanted a point of comparison with the other boards I've used them in hahaha
I dont know if you already kno wthis but there's an "plugin" a piece of software from razer that syncs in with your beats you make in "fl studio", an program for making music :)
0:28 Razor Keyboard… now with kitty cat approval 🐈🤣
I think that also the huntsman elite was a pretty good keyboard tbh :)
Edit: Btw am i the only one that likes clicky loud switches????
Razer has really been putting out great stuff lately. Viper v2 and DAv3 are both excellent.
But then shot their self in the foot with the Cobra Ult mouse.
Can you make a switch tierlist video? Would be great to have an idea what to upgrade my current switches to potentially
This is kinda a bummer I’m in the market for a new small keyboard and I was looking at the v3 mini clicky and I thought it would be perfect but this would be even better if it just had clicky switches
After you mentioned the fingerprints I couldn't stop noticing them all throughout the video.
To quote Good Ol' JR: "Bah GAWD!"
I use a wrist rest to remind myself not to rest my wrists on the table XD
Glorious does the misleading marketing as well - the top half is aluminum and the bottom part is plastic on the GMMK. They at least make the entire top out of aluminum, though.
That top-half-aluminium construction reminds me of my old Corsair K60. I really enjoyed the experience of that board, but with a whole section of the board being membrane, and the nonstandard bottom row, was a pain to customise. Eventually, the Ctrl key started acting up, and now I've decided to salvage the mx reds from it haha
Something I like about gaming companies getting into keyboards is the potential uptick in ISO support.
