As he's done in the past, Miguel Sapochnik always makes his epic battle episodes an immersive experience for the viewer. During Hardhome I felt cold, dread and had a sense of hopelessness. During the Battle of the Bastards I felt pessimistic, overwhelmed ( by the chaos surrounding Jon during his "one take") and panic (especially when Jon was being trampled). During this episode I felt tense, anxious, fearful, uncertain and often confused as I was unable to decipher what was going on mostly due to the darkness, the storm and the quick cuts. Miguel puts you in the minds of those who are fighting and tries to make you feel what they're feeling from the way he tells the story by effectively putting the viewer on the battlefield. He's fantastic at what he does.

being siege having a castle and putting all your figthing force OUTSIDE of it and making your light calvalry charge into a massive force and not using the dragons like fire towers... great thinking right there....
using the dragons like fire towers makes them a sitting duck for the Night king. And dorthraki need to be out in the open on horses, theyre no good otherwise. Unsullied are also best when in formation. its hard to stay in formation with those numbers if you are on the inside of a castle.
@@myviolinjourney7474 like if the nigh king or any other white walker actually did something the entire episode... and you don't charge light cav agains formations, that's stupid, if they had use bow and obsidian arrows that would make more sense, and the unsollied can protect the door from the inside and they are good in regular figthing, example of that is when they take casterly rock and storm the doors...

Interested to see if you feel somewhat disappointed by the way the NK's arc went. I was stunned we didn't lose more main people though their plot armor was MASSIVE this episode lol.
From a production standpoint I LOVED the episode, but the story was pretty iffy for me tbh. It felt like so much of what's been built up the last few years was just for nothing.
I've seen a few remarks like this one and I'm trying to, honestly, understand what people were expecting. I respect other peoples opinions and I'm not trying to be a troll here or anything but the NK had to either win or lose at some point. We had a nearly 90 minute movie of his attack on Winterfell and his losing/demise. It had to end. Did people want it to take a few episodes to end his story or did people want someone else to kill him or did people want, as I may think, it to be harder to kill him? It was established that killing him would probably cause all who follow him to fall so as soon as I realized that I figured this HAD to be the way he lost (if he lost). Of course I expected it to be at the hands of Jon. I figured this episode would end with a final Jon/NK fight with Jon winning and everyone who followed him to fall. I was actually glad that they diverted my expectations a little & had Arya do it. It finally gave a reason for all her training and brought it full circle. It took everything she learned from the Hound & Syrio, & Jaqen H'gar for her to do this and gave meaning to her arc that most people disliked over in Braavos.
We never lose a bunch of main characters in battle. The only kinda main character that has ever died in an actual battle is Ygritte in the battle for the wall. Ramsay was killed post battle as a hostage but thats literally it all the way back to Blackwater. They kill the main characters when we’re least expecting it.

An extraordinary episode in every department but the writing. The writing in GoT has been bad for years, but the direction, acting and stunt work is on a whole other level. Writing is a 4/10, everything else is a 9.5/10
Pretty much. Too bad the writing shits on a decade of building up and way more if we take anything from this to be happening in the books.
My only complaint is Ghost, he finally comes back but has no real scenes with anyone(not even Jon), he is just there. The main scene he has is in a suicide charge and now he is probably gone.😥 They should have put him in the crypts to protect everyone, he would have saved a lot of lives and maybe even lived.
Ghost is still alive. He appears in the promo of 8X04 (just for a second and in the background, but he's there, when they are going to burn the bodies of all the dead in front of the gate of Winterfell).

Some people have bitched that this was over too quickly, and should have been stretched to two episodes. Really? Would you have wanted to wait a WEEK in the middle of this? The best historical comparison would be the Alamo, with over 3000 Mexicans attacking less than 300 Texans - that took less than an hour, beginning to end.

Well, I see you messed a bit with the brightness xD
I'm utterly confused about why some people had, significant & honest, problems with the darkness in this episode. I'm not saying I don't believe people, there's obviously enough complaints that there has to be some merit to it, but I recorded the episode on my DVR off of HBO and I'm looking at it right now and it is every bit as bright, if not more so, than Sith's here on his channel and I didn't do a thing to my brightness. I've polled a few friends and family members and it seems that the majority thought it was too dark but just a few, like me, had no issues at all. Could it be some TV's just have better brightness??? I was thinking that maybe the people who experienced issues were watching a pirated version but that's not the case I've found. I'm sorry for the people who had issues cause, like I said, I'm looking at it on my TV right now and it looks fine. Bummer for others though

GoT isn't the same show anymore. Before, no character was safe from death. Now, the main characters have thick plot armour, and it does take away from the excitement. And they use grand visual spectacle to distract people from the fact that they have no story to tell, really. They just don't know what to do with the characters. Night King? He's just an evil killing machine hyped up for 7 seasons. What do we do with him? I dunno, let Arya take him out? Yeah ok. What about Littlefinger? Let Arya take him out too? Sure. Varys? Meh, just let him walk around. Etc.
