  • Should I move to South Carolina? Or Move to North Carolina? Living in South Carolina is different than Living in North Carolina, even though both are located on the east coast of the United States and are consider to be located in “The South”. But if you have a choice for picking which state to move to, you need to know the difference between living in South Carolina vs living in North Carolina. Watch this video through to the end and you will know which one is for you.
    Why do people move to South Carolina? Why do people move to North Carolina?
    It’s a common misconception that The Carolina’s are the same since they are both North and South. While it is true that moving to the Carolina's offers a more relaxed way of life. These two states feature 2 completely different ways of life.
    North Carolina vs. South Carolina
    In this video, we go through the pros and cons of NC vs SC and the cost of living, taxes, weather, food, things to do, sports, activities, and living life in The Carolina’s. Living in South Carolina is different than living in North Carolina
    Sometimes when people think about moving “South” they automatically think of Florida. But many end up second-guessing that idea when they investigate the true cost of Florida's property taxes and insurance premiums. The Carolina's can offer a refreshing alternative to the FL “To Hot’ weather or “to Congested” roads.
    So today we are going to talk about the pros and cons of North Carolina and South Carolina living.
    From the Mountains to the sea, it’s the place to be!
    Both NC and SC feature the mountains to the west and the Atlantic Ocean to the east. So you are never more than a few hours drive to either one, no matter where you live. And both States are two of the fastest-growing states in the nation! But that is pretty much where the similarities end.
    There are things you want to know before moving to South Carolina or North Carolina. Get an overview of the Tar Heel State and the Palmetto State. Both have beautiful mountains and awesome beaches, friendly people, and modern cities.
    If you are thinking about living in the south, look at the cost of living in Coastal Carolina. Living in Myrtle Beach SC is one of the most affordable places to live in the United States. If you want to retire, find out how you can travel and live here on a cheap budget!
    You get you the straight truth about these two states. Only one is the best choice for you! This is the best video on the topic!

    The concept of mini-retirement changed my life. I'm no longer waiting for some retirement paradise when I'm 65. It helps to know how to fund the lifestyle. You know, making money while you sip that piña colada by the beach does help. I wouldn't have been able to do it otherwise.

      Yeah, people miss that part. You don't jet out to Puerto Rico with your life savings. Proper investing and a good business acumen are big pluses. Invest in the stock market, real estate, build businesses. That's just it.

      Safe to say not everybody has the skill to pursue investing. But it's always easy to follow the directions of someone who knows how to i.e an asset manager. You could earn anywhere between 10--40k with the right ones. Online businesses are a good bet too.

    I’ll make it simple for everyone. SC is Country Mouse. NC is City Mouse. Neither is bad, just different. It all depends on the lifestyle you would like to live. Just remember the reason you decided to move to the Carolinas. If you move here because your state was poorly run by the government and you have high taxes and high crime, don’t vote for the same policies that made you want to move in the first place.

    I grew up in the Midwest, Southern Illinois. I moved to Columbus, Georgia for a couple years for grad school, which was my first welcoming to the South. Then I moved to Columbia, South Carolina. I recently moved to the Upstate area, and I've never looked. SC is for the free-spirited, and it is my home.

    As someone who has lived in NC my entire life, but also as someone who has owned property in Myrtle Beach for about 20 years, I prefer the Myrtle Beach area for many reasons. The weather is better (warmer/sunnier), there are palm trees (NC beaches do not have palms), there are a lot more entertainment and activity options in Myrtle Beach than at any of the beaches in NC. Most of the beaches in NC are "sleepy". Nice if you want to get away and relax, but not somewhere I want to live full time. And as you mentioned we get hit hard by hurricanes in NC a lot because we stick out. I'd say there are more job opportunities in NC, but if that isn't an issue (retiring or working remotely), Myrtle Beach is better in my opinion!

      Thanks for sharing your insights on NC vs SC! I have to agree there are more jobs in the big cities but nothing like the exciting beach life here in the Myrtle Beach SC area. I guess that is why our area continues to grow. :) See ya in the next video.

      Well....I'm close to 60 and ably able to work still; driving Class A trucks. Considering moving and staying with Ryder Trucking...if I can keep my current net pay. I like riding four-wheelers too...so I think North C, trumps South here. I don't actually care about the beach line....more than 5-10 visits a year...can't afford beach property...so, this is a moot point.
      1) Where are North Carolinas best "riding trails" of 100-200 mile runs...if they exist
      2) A person making 65K and taking home 50K...where can they find a small house...then rent out a room to augment one's income close to #1's needs please?

    • @Ezees23
      @Ezees23 2 роки тому +2

      @@frankfromupstateny3796 Literally, anywhere in NC. NC has much more industry than SC, and has more to do outside of simply going to the beach or hanging in a "beach area". I'd say the best trails are near the mountains, toward the Western side of NC. The beaches are on the Eastern Seaboard. You should be good to go anywhere West of Raleigh. East of Raleigh things drop off considerably - towns are smaller and there's less going on, industry-wise. Generally, if a city doesn't have a public bus system, there's not enough chances for advancement for the average person - which means there's much less money circulating in the local economy, which means a lower quality of life for the average citizen, IMO.

    For me, taxes & cost of living are the two major influences which tip S.C. in favor of N.C. for me, although my partner & I are still undecided if Myrtle Beach or upstate may be more in line with our budget, time will tell, but until that time comes, we're enjoying the many videos yourself and others put together to share with us.

    I'm from Pawleys Island SC and the reasons for living here are far too numerous to list in one message. But I'll share a story which sums it all up quite well. My mom and her best friend which happend to be a SC state Senators wife, were shopping at the grocery store when a man who you could easily tell was from New York because of his accent, was bitching and complaining about the lines at the check out counter. He eventually broke in line by saying, "Look unlike you people, I'm a busy person and I had to be somewhere else 10 minutes ago so, I'm just gonna get in front of the line here." The cashear started to say, "Well that's not very courteous what about..." Then he interrupterd her and started abusing her as well. Anyway everyone just went silent while he was checked out. Then when he got his groceries and headed to the exit door my mom's friend who was a polite well bred Southern lady from Charleston but also not weak a person at all went up to him, looked him in the eye and said, with a refined Southern accent, "You're not from around here are you?" Well that was all it took and even though he was obviously embarrassed but still too proud to apologise he said as he left "Well I don't give a damn what all y'all think anyway." At that point everyone was statred laughing at him which seemed to make it even worse for him. He then flipped everyone the bird and stormed out. At which point everyone in the market started cheering and applauding which he also heard as he was leaving.

    Florida was my #1 choice, but lately I'm second guessing myself. I would like to live somewhere with a lot of things for the children to do, that includes museums, parks, and golf courses. My daughter plays junior golf. Crime is a big factor in my decision. For a second we thought about Naperville Illinois because they have such a low crime stats. North Carolina was on my list, but I had bad memories about living in Camp Lejeune. I found things far from each other and too cold in the winter for my liking. I live in California and retiring soon, so any southern state would be cheaper than the Bay area. I have been looking for place to call home, but every time I believe I found something I like, I dig for more information and something always throws me off. For example in Florida the property and car insurance is insane, that defeats the point of not having state tax. Naperville is too cold in the winter and some reports said that Chicago crime is moving to the suburbs and what is the point to living close to a big city when you won't enjoy it because of crime. San Diego is too expensive. Texas too hot with mega property tax. Is anyone on the same boat as I'm. North or South Carolina are the areas of my research at this point.

    Which of these two states and/or cities you choose could also depend on the type of work you do or business that you are in. For instance, if you work in IT/Technology/Scientific Research/BioTech you will want to look at the Raleigh/Durham area. On the other hand, if you are an accountant or working in the finance and banking industries Charlotte will be your #1 choice. I will say that one advantage that SC has right now is more manufacturing jobs and the like. For instance BMW is in Spartanburg and also Continental opened a tire factory in Sumter. Don't forget Boeing opened a large manufacturing center near Charleston. SC actually seems to be doing a better job of attracting those kinds of industries and jobs than NC. I would say that for "blue collar" type jobs and factory work (nothing wrong with any of this) then the Greenville/Spartanburg area in Upstate SC might be a good place to look for work. For people who want to retire quietly in a mild climate and earned their money somewhere else then just about anywhere in the mountains is great (Hendersonville is a popular retirement community and also Blowing Rock in Northwestern NC). Academics will find opportunities in both states although probably more in NC than SC since NC is known for a number of well known and excellent public and private universities (this is not to reduce the importance of USC and Clemson though). If you work in service industries or hospitality management then Asheville might be good or go the opposite route and go to Myrtle Beach. Both Carolinas together provide a lot of different kinds of opportunities for different people in different situations. If you like nature go to the mountains. If you prefer sunning on the beach in summer both states have you covered. There are a lot of choices.

    Great info thank you but one of the things that I've seen the last couple years is the stories in grand strand area is the infrastructures with electricity & water problems seems there is a lot of blackouts & water pipes breaking that are old the area is not keeping up with these issues

    • @JerryPinkas
      @JerryPinkas  3 роки тому +1

      Yes the Myrtle Beach has been upgrading. No problems with electric or water black outs...only planned upgrades. Take notice the next time your in town. Ocean Blvd no longer has overhead power lines, the sidewalks are wider, have more handy cap access and storm water drain upgrades as well. Its been part of a 5 year upgrade plan that has been in the process.

      It is a rapidly growing region in a very low tax environment. Unfortunately, these problems will likely to continue. If they can't raise taxes to pay for infrastructure improvements then utility rates will have to go up considerably to pay for the expansion and maintenance.

But I'm widowed and can't downsize near Raleigh. The prices went up. SC, another favorite place, seems like a great option. I'm pretty sure i don't want to live right near the beach, but a quick 10-15 minute drive. Having a nice community would be a priority. Golf carts a plus. So we'll see how things shake out. We are so pleased with our decision, between the housing prices skyrocketing and the mortgage rates rising, it was a fantastic decision. God wiling, in 2026, we will be living here full time. I am partial to SC. Of course, I chose to move there when I moved from cold, rigid and sunless Pennsylvania where I'd lived for 10 years (but I'm originally from DC)...SC is very hospitable, the people are relaxed and friendly. NC on there other hand has tooooooo many people from NY, NJ and other northern states, and somehow, that whole southern feel seems lost. Nothing against northerners, but places like Charlotte just doesn't feel southern enough for me anymore.

      Raleigh/Durham area is a place I would look first. Houses and apartments and even commercial properties are being built in this area at a rapid pace. Apple just announced that they will open a new location with 3000 employees at Research Triangle Park. Sports are Huge here in the triangle (raleigh/durham) area assuming you like Basketball (and college/university sports). Healthcare is big here in the Triangle as Duke Univ is famous for its Medical School and Hospitals. Also, UNC is well known for their medical school and hospitals. Charlotte would be equally good for construction jobs and even better for sports if you consider that Charlotte has NBA, NFL and now MLS teams (major league soccer or football). Charlotte is not quite as strong on the healthcare business but still has a very large hospital system under Carolinas (Atrium Health) Hospital System and also Presbyterian Hospital (Novant Health).

    Born and raised in NC, moved to SC due to PCS and Colorado (huge eye awakening). Both states are beautiful. To me, the Outer Banks of NC has more Native American history.. SC islands have a lot of Gulla History. Economy wise NC is better. SC has a more laid back and southern hospitality feel than NC. If you're from either area or visit either state, enjoy the mountains and the beach. Colorado is nice, but no place like home!!

I really love being in the woods and out in nature but also like to visit the more popular areas. I have a fairly diverse work experience, so I feel I wouldn't have much trouble finding a job. Which of the 2 Carolinas would you suggest to move out of a heavily populated area to a more relaxed yet livable town ?

    He forgot to mention a few times like no sales tax on groceries, but restaurants and fast food has a high sales tax. No fault car insurance turns me off might as well be in NJ. The roads going to the beach or mountains are good, but the side roads are like the surface of the moon. The SC state parks are the Marriott compared to NC parks. Each site in every SC parks have a water spigot and electric hookup and the electric is only $3 more for a site. Greenville has a natural waterfall and swimming downtown. Santee Cooper has the best freshwater fishing. Actually there is a lot of activities in the state to entertain any family if they take the time to research. I live in NC 5 miles from the state line for lower property taxes and gas which is actually the same as SC since they passed a new gas tax. Liability insurance is low for seniors who don't have tickets. I pay one payment for 12 months liability for 2 vehicles $385. One is 01 and the other 84 so that has to be taken into account. Charlotte- Mecklenburg area is probably best for working people. They would be close to Lake Norman and Lake Wylie, 3 hours to the beach and 2 to the mountains. If you are Democrats stay where you are.

    We are looking to move to sc by 2022. Coming from L.A. I am a beach person but I have one question; if one buys a home in Myrtle Beach, aren’t you gambling with the possibility that your home and your belongings will be destroyed in a hurricane?

    • @JerryPinkas
      @JerryPinkas  2 роки тому

      Good question! Not an easy answer since all of life is a risk. We could get into a car accident and lose an automobile or even get injured. But a concern many people moving from the east coast to the west coast would be similar to earthquakes in California. Even though it is rare, It does make big news when it happens, yet the percentage of time that anyone is hurt or loses anything is small. (you can buy earthquake insurance). Now hurricanes You can buy the insurance and you are given plenty of time to get out of harm's way. If you do your research you will find the top states for hurricanes are 1) Florida 2) Texas 3) Louisiana and 4) North Carolina. The good news is you can choose where to live, and if you are a community that isn't in a flood zone, your safety increases. When you move to the beach you get to enjoy the all benefits of living here. There is a reason why many people dream of one day moving to the beach and I hope you get to as well.

    For retirees SC may be better, if you are still working and looking for a good paying job I would suggest NC. The Triangle area, Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill, has the RTP (Research Triangle Park) which has many large businesses headquartered there or offices of many larger companies. Jerry brought up Charlotte which is a large city with plenty of jobs. I'm not as familiar with SC but I do not believe it offers the employment opportunities that NC does.

      @JerryPinkas  3 роки тому +2

      Thanks for watching and commenting. Actually there are parts of Conway and Florence that flood and I would recommend staying away from. Low areas, no matter where they are, is always where water will travel... no matter where you live. Our team always makes sure our clients get ALL the info so our clients can make smart decisions. In the last several storms, areas further inland where under water, when Myrtle Beach was high and dry! You can get out of the way when they call for a hurricane and plus if anything does ever happen, that's what insurance is for. It's the price to pay to live in paradise. It all depends on the trajectory of the hurricane. You will feel effects from it in Florance and Conway but for geographical reasons they hit NC much more frequently than SC. If they are Cat 3 and higher and going in your direction you are going to feel the pain I don't care if you are in Columbia, SC or Raleigh, NC. I've seen destruction from hurricanes as far west as Charlote and Hickory, NC.
