@@Oh_I_Will Not in skill level but in his influence at the time..Just like Hendrix was not the most skilled but possibly the greatest in his style and influence..
Love this! Played in this manner, it sounds like classical music. And the absence of Jim's voice adds a forlorn note to those of us who love this song.
Your improvisations are so amazing. It’s like your Polish pianist Chopin with a hint of Bach. Ray you can’t play a bad piece of music. I hated when Jim died. I knew that would end the group and your fantastic contribution. The same would have happened if you had passed away before Jim. I’d love to hear more solos of your piano, organ and harpsichord piano playing. I honestly miss you and Jim. Robbie and John are left stranded, their Door’s talents silenced. All thing must pass away. I’ll have these same feelings until the day I pass. RIP Ray.
Imagine being a member of the doors and when you are old you start looking back at all the records you and the other members created and say what a crazy trip I just had. It would be legendary
hes from an era where musicians could play whatever they wanted to and still become famous nowadays people gotta write trendy poppy commercial songs to make it in music
Thank you Ray. I missed out on seeing the Doors, I was 15 when Jim died. But, my late best friend and I used to go down to Hollywood every time Ray was playing a club. We lived in the LA area so it was easy to get to Hollyweird at thaty time. The last time I saw Ray perform was in a funky great club in a residential area in Sacramento, where I was living at the time. At the end of the concert, Ray played and sang 'Riders on the Storm'. Needless to say I was thrilled, it was the only time that I'd ever seen Ray play and sing a Doors song. Ray is the person that I've seen most of any rock act. I'm an old geezer at 66 now, but man I loved to hear Ray play. And he could play *anything* and do it well. I really miss him.
The head shaking haha he still had it!! Ray manzerek you are a god. So is jim, robbie, and john. The doors. One of a fucking kind! Long live the mfn doors! 🖤🖤🖤🖤
Jims mystic words from another universe written while on high school for God sake and Rays haunting piano makes this one of the most beautifull and under rated love songs ever. Timeless !They were so Young, such a talent Thanks Ray & Jim rip ❤️🙏 greetings from the Netherlands everyone
Oh my, such wonderful muscianship, Ray is without doubt our greatest ever rock keyboard player....SO sad he is gone! No one can replace him.......RIP Ray.....
I love the Doors. And not just their music. I love the people they are, and sadly for Ray and Jim the people they were. Their souls made one soul that transcends time. I love that soul. For any fan of the Doors, we all feel like they are old friends even if we didn’t meet them in person. Ray’s solo part in the Crystal Ship is my favourite part of any song. It’s a gentle, uplifting piece that transports me into a place of non-judgement... a place where only the universal spirit of music exists. We miss you Ray and Jim. Keep on rocking Robby and John.
Much more haunting than the original recording. I’m 63 and when I heard back then when it was new it was cool my older brother had the album. But Rays rendition here gives it the classical melody he wrote. Wow.
Thanks for posting this, and glad i came across this clip - amazing - the Doors were such a big part of my teen years so long ago (and Crystal Ship one of my faves, such a haunting song), and Ray was as big a part of their sound as Jim Morrison was. I also enjoyed his "The Golden Scarab" solo album, amazing musicians and cool songs - check it out!
I know there are Doors cover bands out there, and for good reason. I hope they take the time not just to learn the notes, but to understand why their music is no less timeless than that of, say, Beethoven, Brahms, or Stravinsky.
Most Doors fans Think ,,, That They are Jim Morrison's biggest fan? Right? I sing very much like him , and not either,,,,,,,, No The BIGGEST Jim Morrison fan was and always be Is-------- Ray Manzarek RIP You guys Are Jammin
Very beautiful indeed & wonderfully done because it sounds like a classical piece. One could only imagine that this musical piece is part of Rock Music. But If it's beautiful indeed it was written by the master poet Jim Morrison. Being that his a great piano player Ray Manzarek did a fantastic job. With this song which is a timeless classic. A song that has stood the test of time.
Ray, Robby, and John were smart to show us their songs parts individually. Then, we amateurs can try to practice and play the songs. Musicians who do not do this are foolish. Then, their music will die. These lessons will help their music live on, because people will learn to play it. That way, their music will continue.
This song, "The Crystal Ship" is a jewel of a song by The Doors. This song,…Like a fine wine has only grown finer with time. This is vintage Doors off the Doors first album… Vintage !967 Americana.
A beautiful instrumental rendition of this classic ballad! I wish he had done a whole album of Doors keyboard 🎹 instrumentals. This is like a classical piece! Thanks 🙏🏻 Ray! RIP
I consider Ray the greatest rock keyboardist ever..This is just beautiful..God bless you forever brother..
Ron Benoche he’s great but GOAT...maybe Top 25 in my book for the very short time he recorded meaningful music
@@Oh_I_Will Not in skill level but in his influence at the time..Just like Hendrix was not the most skilled but possibly the greatest in his style and influence..
Ray and Jon Lord from Deep Purple are my favorite keyboardist
can this song be experienced without thoughts of rage, empathy and vengeance? my birth certificate
Yes and Jon Lord !
What a life...what a talent.
Thanks, Ray, for all the amazing riffs.
RIP...but your music lives.
busstopbilly we miss you Ray 😥😥😥
@Jackie Striegel in may of 2013.
"Oh tell me where, your freedom lies, the streets are fields that never die..." Thank you for your poet roses, Ray and Jim.
We love you Ray. The Crystal Ship is creative genius!

Imagine everyone wanting you to play your tunes, but every time you do you miss your friends, you think of nights with Jim the Lizard King.

RIP
I miss Ray every bit as much as Jim. RIP boys, and God bless you both.

"You don't make music for immortality,
You make music for the moment, for
capturing the sheer joy of being alive on
planet Earth." -Ray Manzarek+🙏🏼
Exactly.
And the brilliant way he did it made him immortal.
When we get back, I’ll drop a line
How lucky was Jim Morrison to fall into this band?
Holy CRAP! Just hearing this solo on piano gives this song a whole different feel!!!! GORGEOUS!!!!!!!!! RIP RAY!
Tell me where your freedom lies ❤️

@Frank Lopez that's why they were called the Doors of Perception.
You can hear jim clearly without his presence , just shows you have nothing without good foundation. The timing is still there ray.
We will meet again friend
Лучшая композиция 20 века.
Me gusta más esta bella composición que las mejores composiciones de los rolling stones y que de hecho hay obras maestras de los stones.
Jim overshadowed these 3 other guys they were so stunningly talented in their own right......
Good perform
God bless The Doors
That’s me in the back ground stretching the guitar strings

WONDERFUL RAY🔥🎶
I think some wiz tech kid could Mary this to the original song with Jims voice on an extended play song....it would be HUGE Tonawanda.....
who could watch this without tears strifing (sp?) their cherks?
my God
*cheeks
For me Ray is an icon! His way how he executed the pieces was very intense! What a pity that I never saw him life!
Will never be another Ray Manzarek. RIP. Till we meet again, what a day that will be!
Wow. Definitely deserved more than five claps...
Rest in peace ... so great ! Thanks for sharing

Grande Ray Manzarek un genio 💪👏👏👏
Brilliant, brilliant Ray Manzarek!!
Sensacional
Manzarek was the essence of the Doors. But, without Morrison's lyrics the songs don't shine as bright
JIM HUBIERA SIDO UN POETA MAS SIN ÉSTOS GRANDES MÚSICOS QUE COMPLEMENTARON CON EL.
