It's so weird, I was just watching this video last week and thinking about Ray and The Doors, and now a week later he's gone. Ray and Jim are once again best buds rocking out for the first time in over 40 years.
You see, that lyric is long and all ambitious but as Zeppelin kicked in with Rock And Roll, everybody just heard what that was meant to be. They really shouldn't have... And now they do something like Rammstein. Forget it.
Ray Manzarek is like the coolest member of the doors, jim passed away before the internet could comprehend him, I think ray always made up for that, so cool
Ray is like the hippest guy...he even still dresses smooth... Ray sold the Doors sound to me when I was in high school around 1990....and I've been hooked mostly because of him ever since!
Love you Ray!!! You are THE MAN! You are truly an inspiration to us all, as I am a HUGE DOORS FAN and think you guys are the Best Rock N Roll Band EVER! I am a budding keyboard player and have learned a lot from you in more ways than one. Take care and someday we will all be together in the Lizard Kingdom.
I know the song he is playing at 2:18 to 2:20 it's Celebration Of The Lizard. It's a bonus track of the 40th anniversary remastered edition of The Doors: Waiting For The Sun
Man... I love seeing this... Ray is teaching us how to play this part of Celebration of the lizard...you can see his fingers so well. The Vox and Fender Rhodes piano bass never go outta style.
Man I still miss Ray. Can't believe he's gone. He was the coolest dude. I mean, when you look up the word "cool" in the dictionary all it shows is Ray at his keyboard talking about how they came up with a song.
"Not to touch the earth" is the song Ray talking about.. I alwayed liked that bass-line,in fact the whole song is a doors classic... I regard Ray (rip) as an accomplished and the backbone of the doors.. Very talented man.. "A groovy cat" as he would say..
Great Story Ray. I hope he is still living. They were from Venice Beach Calif. My daughter lives in Venice and has for 7 years. I can so relate. I use to be a Los Angeles County Emergency Paramedic in the 1970s. My partner and I hit it off and the rest was history. Been married 42 years. We qquit the County and I joined the US Military and became a Combat Pilot x 26 years.
Para mi el mejor músico y fundador de The Doors , tuve la oportunidad de verlo en vivo, y la magia y el talento que transmitía es único. Pero, "Nadie sale vivo de aquí "
@glenlanding I have a Rhodes bass myself and I run it with my Vox Continental through a huge 300 watt Behringer amp. It gets this real mellow bass sound but with sharp attacks. I love it.
@Hgclaw It's funny you mention that. The sharps and flats on my Italian and US are bright white... the ones I've seen on the UK Continentals are almost always yellow. It's funny how many nuances these vintage instruments have.
@Hgclaw Very good eye. I didn't notice that D trane. Actually I think it's definitely worth pointing out. I think all the hoopla around the Italians having breakable keys really give them a bad name. Personally I actually like a plastic key continental in good shape with good key bushings and no key clack. Wood keys actually have a mushier action to me. Very good point you are making!
When Ray says he doens't know what the song was, he means he doesn't know what the name of the song was in that music book that he got the bass line from.
What a cool man he was. Instead of saying "and the rest was history" he says "and the rest was- [plays Light My Fire]".
Cornelius Dieckmann don’t you love his modesty!? 😊😊😊
@@Benny-ye7roa mí sí.
Ray did a perfect German accent. Hilarious.
I agree. He did!
RIP THE GREATEST ORGANIST EVER
Он был уникален.
Jon Lord was his better.
@@Coowallsky FUCK MANZAREK IS THE ONLY BEST!!
Insert *Angry Bach sounds*
Not only a great keyboardist but a great story teller as well. Ray, you were the best.
The Doors were the perfect band. They split all the loot four ways and never made a decision unless they all agreed.
Boy did Densmore make out like a bandit!
Not true, one time all but Morrison agreed to let an ad use one of their songs and Morrison was a very cranky boy
Not quite perfect. Morrison's drug and alcohol use and abuse challenged things at times.
Any one band member had Vito the decisions had to have all 4 say yes
It's so weird, I was just watching this video last week and thinking about Ray and The Doors, and now a week later he's gone. Ray and Jim are once again best buds rocking out for the first time in over 40 years.
and now it's been more than 10 years since his death, time sure does fly, but The Doors will live forever.
He gives me inspiration. Just pure peace in his heart.
He really had superior coordination and dexterity -- extraordinarily precise fingering -- also incredible independence of fingers 3, 4 and 5.
This man is a true genius.
i still cant believe me and him went to the same high school. hes too cool to be an alum.
Celebration of the Lizard is a masterpiece, and that bass line is so simple and kickass
You see, that lyric is long and all ambitious but as Zeppelin kicked in with Rock And Roll, everybody just heard what that was meant to be. They really shouldn't have... And now they do something like Rammstein. Forget it.
A gift to mortal men was Ray . Hope to know You another day.May we Ride the wisp of wind searching for our brethren kind. RIP RAY MISS YOU

I love Ray Manzarek videos. He's so infectious. One of the best things on T'internet.🙂
Ray is like the hippest guy...he even still dresses smooth... Ray sold the Doors sound to me when I was in high school around 1990....and I've been hooked mostly because of him ever since!
The best music instructor ever! And the coolest! I love how he explains his creative process. And where he got his inspiration from.
RIP Ray and Jim
he is my cosmic grandpa that teaches me piano tunes
What an amazing man! Great stories, seems such a genuine nice guy, shame he is no longer with us. RIP
A spirit of Bach for the 1960's.

Rest in peace Ray.
Everyone loves Ray -- he is so cool, friendly ... just an overall seemingly nice man.
Man... I love seeing this... Ray is teaching us how to play this part of Celebration of the lizard...you can see his fingers so well. The Vox and Fender Rhodes piano bass never go outta style.
Amazing how he takes a simple bass line and make something that sounds so awesome.
Man I still miss Ray. Can't believe he's gone. He was the coolest dude. I mean, when you look up the word "cool" in the dictionary all it shows is Ray at his keyboard talking about how they came up with a song.
Ray was something else. He is truly missed!
Ray was fantastic. Still hard to believe he has gone.
Talented and down-to-earth. How often can you see that?
This man is a legend
I glad his teacher gave Ray a good song book, that's one of my favorite Doors pieces.
One of the best piano master!!!You will be missed,Sir!!!
Anyone can easily say that he is one of the best organist if not the best, its facts!
Ray was the best story teller ever.
This guy has more talent in his little pinky finger than 99 % of today's wannabe SUPERSTARS !!
Ohhh, Nohhh, I can't believe he passed on!! RIP Love his music, and he seemed like such a chill person.
This man could make his Fender Bass keyboard and his Vox Continental organ speak. Privileged are we to have heard his music.
He was such a character, so much energy and fun.
"Not to touch the earth" is the song Ray talking about.. I alwayed liked that bass-line,in fact the whole song is a doors classic... I regard Ray (rip) as an accomplished and the backbone of the doors.. Very talented man.. "A groovy cat" as he would say..

Thank you God for giving us the Doors.
You are the best, always in my mind Ray, love you.
A part of "The celebration of the Lizard" so niceeee!!! great piece!!!
OMG, how beautiful of a piece!
Such a talented man and with that charisma.
Wooooo que emoción da escucharlo . Afortunadamente lo pude ver en Aguascalientes México años antes de su muerte... The Doors por siempre.
love it at 1:48 when he hits the wrong note ,so he pretends he's slowing down and changing the intro of LMF, a legend
awesome! thanks for sharing.
god i could listen to videos like this (interview w/ music) all the live long day
I am a horrible musician but this mans ability influenced me many years ago......He will be missed!
That is one cool story...

That song is From a Wigwam (last song in the book)
I played it for my first ever recital !! 😀😀😀

The only guy who makes organ sound awesome
Too cool....for words...play on...
Fantastic
@glenlanding I have a Rhodes bass myself and I run it with my Vox Continental through a huge 300 watt Behringer amp. It gets this real mellow bass sound but with sharp attacks. I love it.
Some of the Thumbs Down have got to be accidental clicks...no? How can you give this a negative click? Awesome.
Strauses backery. Sounds good
RIP Ray. You will be missed.

I so hope that Ray's piano teacher got to see how his pupil lit the world on fire.
Wow. How cool. Thanks for this
Guy knows how to tell a story man!

What a character!

The song he references at 2:05 is The Celebration of the Lizard - The Hill Dwellers Section I believe.
legend!
@Hgclaw Very good eye. I didn't notice that D trane. Actually I think it's definitely worth pointing out. I think all the hoopla around the Italians having breakable keys really give them a bad name. R.I.P Ray Manzarek :( QC
like, why can't he be my grandpa..
I just love this.Yes, the greatest key man ever.
Would've loved to have Ray knock out a few reworked Doors tunes & originals with a great band before he passed.
RIP, he was a happy man
When Ray says he doens't know what the song was, he means he doesn't know what the name of the song was in that music book that he got the bass line from.
Ray talks about a red book wich that he learned to play the piano; well, with the same book also i learned to play the piano
