This is the song that made me say, "I just have to learn piano, I have to learn this song." I'm trying not to cry, but it's impossible. He was my favorite. Ray was aptly named, like a brilliant piece of the sun.
I met Ray Manzarek at the Hard Rock a long time ago. He was so awesome. I was talking to him for a while and he was totally cool. He talked to me like I was his buddy and not just some drooling fan... I was probably saying stupid stuff but he kept talking to me... I avoided asking him about Jim coz I figured everyone probably does that...
Thanks for posting I was going to buy a Dunlop min fuzz this weekend but instead I am donating money to stand up to cancer in Ray's name and also to Red Cross for Oklahoma victims as well. RIP Ray thanks for being part of the soundtrack to my life.
Im from Chile and I went to the doors concert in 2004... I cried like a little girl when I heard light my fire... I love the doors since ever... nice video by the way
Good catch Rod. What a mystical piece of footage in light of having lost him just two years later. A distinctive artist without whom the Doors would never have reached the heights they did.
Rod, I went looking for a solo performance of Crystal Ship specifically to post in honor of Ray's passing. How strange it was you who uploaded it. Been quite awhile since our time on the boat. Hope this finds you well. -- Kirk
@DDutkowski Thanks for the appreciation! I'm glad you like the camera work and sound, but honestly this is a triumph of tech convenience over tech excellence. Shot on an iPhone 3GS. Sound and image capture could be better, but this never would have been shot at all if didn't all fit in my pocket. I'm not posting the other more rocking songs because the iPhone mic just can't handle the heavy bass. Turns to fuzz.
@miles2057 Glad you liked it. You might try checking tour dates at Ray's website. If that doesn't do it for you he's got a whole bunch of other links on the site, and comments pages where you can ask the big cheese himself...
Kirk, man! How are you?!? I was thinking about you and Faith... sailing with my girlfriend in the BVI this past Xmas. What a trip that was, all of us, back then! You in touch w Faith? I think she is a FB friend to this day, but I have not seen her in a while.

I've seen Ray perform this so many times. It never gets old. Nice camera work and sound. Thanks for recording this.
It's a sad day today with Ray passing! So much feeling in his playing. I saw him play in Albuquerque 10 years ago. I will never forget the show!

@pikachusevilmuffin Because Ray hits the right notes, and the right notes hit the right triggers, and suddenly you cry...

@miles2057 I'd give you the link but damn UA-cam posting software doesn't seem to want to let me include a link. Lame. Sorry. Google it.
