What's making this so mystical is that he doesn't stop playing the bass organ while talking. That really builds up the atmosphere beside his beautiful insight informations. What a great dude. RIP
The Doors live at Danbury Connecticut High School is amazing theater work. It's a hard listen but you can hear the dark in Jim Morrison. Haunting. They did it all in front of students and the public at Danbury. The best show I ever came across on.
See that’s what you would want in a band, improvisation live on stage which can control your audience. That’s when you know you got a band for ages. I mean they created “The End” live on stage, that’s beauty, creating before your very audience
Listening to this riveting story of that first and fabulous performance of The End at The Whiskey A-Go-Go, I think the version as it appears in their first album was an attempt to reproduce in the studio that very performance Ray is talking about! Don't you think?
0:56 - 1:40: I want this played at my funeral as I am being descended into the ground, six feet under. I'm old enough to understand Ray's music as I am an old soul now at 55. "As I pass from the gates of the earth and being led to my final destination, be it the Kingdom of God and Christ, or the deepest depths of the fiery abyss of Satan...let it be known I lived my life as life guided me. I only hope that either way I am blessed or face my demise. There is no other way to change my final fate now." - Albert Owen, August 27, 2021
RIP Ray. The Doors are still one of the greatest bands of all time. And by far the greatest American rock band from that era! Thanks for the timeless music!
Cuz it's bold n controversial, for instance why do people get MORE shocked by the matriphile angle than the PATRICIDE angle? Sounds like the same kind of people who would have young guys bomb defenseless people in jet planes but won't allow those guys to write f*** on their airplane because "it's obscene"
@@cybolton302 exactly, I would have said well the rest of you guys aren't fired but jim, you're fired after the Sunday show lol, maybe I'll hire you back in a week if you sing with your back to the crowd again LOL or something like that
It’s funny, when we think of the Doors, we think of Jim’s poetically toned voice. But in reality, that keyboard Ray played is the most iconically claimed sound in musical history. You know the Beatles lyrics, you hear Jaggers voice, but when you hear that keyboard… that’s the Doors, man. I wish I could’ve experienced it all as it happened. Reading it from articles and books doesn’t do it for me anymore.
UNA .BATERIA...UNA GUITARRA....UN PIANO ELECTRICO.....UNA VOZ.....QUE GENIALES..THE DOORS............ESTAN ENTRE NOSOTROS NO SE HAN IDO..............GRACIAS...MUCHACHOS..............
We shouldn't say RIP to these guys. They'll keep stirring our souls as long as these videos, books and bites live. They won't rest until the last piece of these documented moments of magic remains unburned. Till then they'll keep reminding us this is not the end. Live on, Ray!
Ray Manzarek is an enigma. So damn much is below the surface. I guess it usually is with musical savants. Definitely bis destiny lay in being a world famous keyboard player.
é muito bom conseguir entender um pouco de ingles e compreender o que ele está falando, o Ray é um excelente contador de história, parece q ele está revivendo o momento e nos hipnotiza junto.... RIP Ray Diretamente de Belém, Brasil!!
The Doors live forever!!! Ray was the focal musician of the Group and he was Great! One Thing i don't understand: why couldn't Ray produce any good music after Jim? Just don't get IT.... shame, just a shame...
These videos with Manzarek describing process are gifts for the ages. He's a born raconteur and every one reveals the genius of the collaborative effort. Treat yourself and look up others. Here's one with Ray and Robbie discussing the Whisky at length, with excellent archival film, playbills and posters, dancers, etc: ua-cam.com/video/laJyZq5gNIM/v-deo.html
What's making this so mystical is that he doesn't stop playing the bass organ while talking. That really builds up the atmosphere beside his beautiful insight informations. What a great dude. RIP
Spot on... and Ray knows exactly what he's doing. A very beautiful spirit, Ray Manzarek.
The Doors live at Danbury Connecticut High School is amazing theater work. It's a hard listen but you can hear the dark in Jim Morrison. Haunting.
They did it all in front of students and the public at Danbury. The best show I ever came across on.
Yes, indeed, I didn't pay attention on this aspect
The Doors produced high-quality music. Amazing how Manzarek could translate Morrison's poetry into musical language. Pure Genius.
RIP Ray. I could listen to this guy for hours, him and Densmore.
Ray Manzarek... one of the best rock organists/storytellers of all time. RIP legend
3.13 3:13 "The killer awoke before dawn.....
...my god what's he gonna do..."
Brilliant.
You can hear his sweet fondness for his friend, and special moments thay shared. Moments that blew the rest of the world away.
i just freaking love Mr Ray's story's about The Doors .......... simply amazing !!!
His storytelling made me smile.... he sure loved playing with the doors.
The Doors getting fired from a 2nd class dive bar says much about how much artists have to compromise in order to be working.
-Very WELL Said 👍
Getting fired from the Whisky was good for their resume. By the way, the Whisky was not a 2nd rate bar.
its not that deep man, he chose to say it
Blessing in disguise. They been there awhile and now it was times to record. Probably the best thing to happen to the band.
See that’s what you would want in a band, improvisation live on stage which can control your audience. That’s when you know you got a band for ages. I mean they created “The End” live on stage, that’s beauty, creating before your very audience
Ray manzarek is a piano god
So lovely...his playing at the beginning. I picture The Doors playing an amphitheatre in Ancient Greece with all their gods dancing around...
Diyonisus would would approve of that
he was really a musician..... I'M crying for this lost.....
he's never lost
...A Huge Loss of a Titan and A Tremendous ICON
i feel sad he's gone.
If I have the power to give eternal life, without hesitation I would give it to Ray Manzarek. I never saw in my life such a kind person.
We lost an immensely talented man when he passed. R.I.P Ray Manzerak
Still nods his head like a champ
Listening to this riveting story of that first and fabulous performance of The End at The Whiskey A-Go-Go, I think the version as it appears in their first album was an attempt to reproduce in the studio that very performance Ray is talking about! Don't you think?
V R I never think. That would be absurd.
still as enthusiastic as when he was young...timeless music indeed, a timeless experience
I love when Ray sings:
This is the end, beautiful friend at 6:00...
0:56 - 1:40: I want this played at my funeral as I am being descended into the ground, six feet under. I'm old enough to understand Ray's music as I am an old soul now at 55. I love you can hear the individual clicks on the Vox Continental, it still looks futuristic.
R.I.P Ray Manzarek
I didn’t notice until you pointed it out
RIP Ray. The Doors are still one of the greatest bands of all time. And by far the greatest American rock band from that era! Thanks for the timeless music!
There is no separation between Ray Manzarek and his music.
You put that perfectly
Nice.
That’s a true artist.
When he speaks the words, "the killer awoke before dawn..." it gave me goosebumps. What a cool moment that must have been!
That's a wild story and TRUE!! Gotta love the line 'OH oh, you play Friday and Saturday night then your fired' How FUNNY!!
Ray was a badass keyboard player and an awesome storyteller
How could you fire these guys for creating one of the most haunting and poetic rock songs of all time
The establishment in the 60's was very straight-laced and uptight.
Because no band in history had sung about Sophocles' Oedipus killing his father and f***ing his mother. It WAS a tad controversial. Still is, fwiw.
@@cybolton302 exactly, I would have said well the rest of you guys aren't fired but jim, you're fired after the Sunday show lol, maybe I'll hire you back in a week if you sing with your back to the crowd again LOL or something like that
Ray Manzarek was almost as great a story teller as we was a musician. When he passed away, the world became much dimmer.
This pair cannot be separated by death, it seems as if Ray is just waiting to die and join Jim, And...
He Has ... the End
My only solace, of Rays passing.
Love this version of The End.
Just heard the news...damn it. RIP Ray...and thank you.
Just imagine what the world would have missed if Morrison and Manzarek had become film makers.
Or maybe we'd have 2 great directors?
Yeah defiy two great directors but I'm glad the chose music
This is gold
RIP Ray Manzarek, visionary, maestro, teacher and beautiful soul.
Wow how refreshing was this now in a time of uncertainty and power and greed 2020
I hope to meet him in Heaven. We would have some beers and he would play and tell those stories for the whole eternity!!!
....NICE 👍🙏
I’m tears 😭 and laughing 😆!
That story at the end !
RIP MISTRO
I love the song The End! Oh? oh! No, You play Friday & Saturday night! Then you're fired. 😂😂😂
The greatest rock song ever created. If you let it take you, you know what I mean.
Great musician, great storyteller.. thank you Ray for the music you and your friends Jim, John and Robby gave us..
Densmores drums in this song the end was awesome classic.
RIP Ray you have made me one of the best organist I will always and for ever look up to you.
Ray in spanish (Rey) Means King... Vox/Fender King
His storytelling just moves you back to that time literally. Amazing
He used his left hand for the group's bass sound, as they had no bass guitarist. He said it was like the left hand was 'dead'. lol
The keyboard sound in this version of The End sounds like its coming from highest of God's cathedrals.
Amazing musician and storyteller. Amazing interview. RIP Ray and Jim. Magical moment
What a great bloke !
Wow...he took me back in time when they performed The End in that night 💫
It’s funny, when we think of the Doors, we think of Jim’s poetically toned voice. But in reality, that keyboard Ray played is the most iconically claimed sound in musical history. Being '"pre-fired", only Morrison could get pre-fired lol, Ray tells the tale so well I want him to talk forever
UNA .BATERIA...UNA GUITARRA....UN PIANO ELECTRICO.....UNA VOZ.....QUE GENIALES..THE DOORS............ESTAN ENTRE NOSOTROS NO SE HAN IDO..............GRACIAS...MUCHACHOS..............
I think "Wishful Sinful" could have been as good as The End, if they improvised like this
We shouldn't say RIP to these guys. They'll keep stirring our souls as long as these videos, books and bites live. They won't rest until the last piece of these documented moments of magic remains unburned. Till then they'll keep reminding us this is not the end. Live on, Ray!
This is the only instance where I've heard the post-Oedipal portion sound like a polka (4:33). Rest In Peace, Manzarek.
Thanks for the memories and getting electrocuted by your keyboard. Hope they have a VOX in Heaven for you to play!
Redplanetfilms1
...And a Fender Rhodes bass piano on top... and Jim next to him.
the way he told the story, he just took me there!! God bless Manzerek 🙏🏼.
I'd luv to hear accounts from the people that were there.
3:13. chills...
Ray Manzarek is an enigma. So damn much is below the surface. I guess it usually is with musical savants. Definitely bis destiny lay in being a world famous keyboard player.
Manzarek music sounds was highly the most character of THE DOORS !!
Brilliant storyteller, genius genius genius musician!
So much class. I just loved Manzarek!🌹🌺💖👍😘
This is nearly better than the actual song 😂 love you Ray RIP ❤
I can listen that bass line for hours not getting tired
Bravo!
I don’t think no one gets sick of the doors I don’t
I listen too the Doors every day.
Very true. I’ve listened to them for 2 years straight since I discovered them for myself
I met Ray in 2001 in San Francisco..
Ray reminds me a lot of Neil Peart, both in musical talent and intellect.
I absolutely agree with you there!!!
Interesting that this musical genius can't really sing.
What? He sung really good, actually
this is one of the most beautiful things ive ever seen
THANK YOU, mR. MANZAREK...
You are sorely missed Ray ❤
The Doors live forever!!! Ray was the focal musician of the Group and he was Great! One Thing i don't understand: why couldn't Ray produce any good music after Jim? Just don't get IT.... shame, just a shame...
I fucking love it

Debs more doesn’t get enough credit for his dramatic drums …
Ray was a top bloke on every level. A captivating exposition on The End.
Manzarek is the Steve Urkel of rock and roll.
03:13 gives me goosebumps

This is great. What an awesome storyteller Ray was. Thanks man.
Wish I had been there that night. But I had not even been born for more than 20 years.
Ray Manzarek is a great story teller!!
