Me: So this is the first boss, I'm going to do one R1, panic, four circles to roll at random around the arena. Then you'll see this huge wind up for his attack? Well my brain will stop working at this point so I"m going to forget how to dodge and walk right into it. When he does the same move again next, I'll drink my estus flask timing it to frame perfectly get hit right before the heal completes, negating any heal I would get from it. Now to end the fight, I'll dodge, dodge, dodge and...perfect, right off the arena I go.
I think the audio just doesn't pick the crowd up well. You can hear them when they're saying something loudly (like "HYYYYPE!") but it's really faint. So there are probably a lot of softer laughs that you can't hear
His mic doesn't pick up much noise form the crowd, probably intentionally. I think talk shows have boom mics aimed at the audience to pick up their reactions. GDQ needs to test try the same thing for their events.
I think part of it was they were being quieter for him. A few times he gave the OK to clap and the announcer only asked once or twice(ish) if it was OK to jump in for a sec. Spacey sounded like he knew exactly what he wanted to say, exactly when he wanted to say it so he was sort of doing traffic control in a way. Which is pretty cool if you think about it. Basically a one man stage play with Dark Souls 3. Also, crowd was probably really focused on the monitors because even just watching people play a Souls game takes concentration.
This was the best run. The commentary was extremely entertaining, his cool demeanor while playing was incredible. More spacey1_ hype! Seriously a pro. Great run man.
I always crack up when a runner does really solid commentary on their own run, in real time. That is two, very distinctly different set of skills being performed at a very high level at the exact same time by one person. That was this run. Actually Spacey was also doing crowd control as well, letting them know when it was OK to clap, read donations, etc. That is taking in and responding to a whole lot of stimuli happening right there.
Execution-wise, one of the best runs of the event and the best run of DS III specifically at a GDQ. Everything was done super well and the solo commentary was cool and calm.
same - 10 hours in, he beat me in 10 minutes :D I was actually pretty close to beating the second boss (the tree) on the first try, but I tend to explore a lot, seems like there's much more to this game than you can see in the speedrun
I feel bad because the hype for Bloodborne right after this run really brought down how much people cared for this run. Great run, one of the best from the event by far. Sad to see more people caring about Bloodborne being next rather than the run at hand, though.
This video, speedrun, and Spacy definitely deserve more views. I’m surprised this has such low views as of this time in comparison to the other GDQ 2019 runs. Nice run and commentary.
That may have something to do with the fact that (on my computer anyway, using Google) searching for 'agdq 2019 dark souls 3' doesn't bring this run up.
I really like this guy. It was a great time watching him, he is an amazing players obviously and nothing fills me with more fun watching someone play than the ones who are outsanding at teaching what they do by explaining it nicely and precisely
That was a great run! He knows when to be serious when he needs to, and calls for donations when it's necessary. Soulsborne is one of my favorite series and it's great to see competent runners of it. The bloodborne run wasn't as good as last years, but still worth a watch.
love it when runners are very informative. today I actually decided to make a sellsword run and I was wondering why other straight swords were better until you just told me that they only get OP with sharp infusion and a soft cap in dex.
Going back and revisiting old agdq slots, I feel like this is the best showcase any runner has done. Spacey offers clear and concise commentary on his run while smoothly transitioning between strat explanations, he only gets one minor detail wrong (estus upgrades) which doesn't really play into the speedrun itself, he's extremely focused on playing both the game and the crowd, he gets almost every skip first try and finishes the run with no major mistakes (deaths), and he did the entire thing without a couch behind him. Really impressive stuff, and entertaining the whole way through. Not to mention that clutch save during vilhelm skip, holy moly
He got estus wrong? His explanation sounded correct to me. Estus shards increase number of uses, bone shards increase how much each drink refills your HP.
