I never played DS3 until today and natually kicked butt. I beat the ice dude and sword dude so easily. Then I cheesed the skelaton dude and somehow he died instantly. I ended up getting the soul ring and that was like about an hour of gameplay.

You can get to the Grand Archives and kill the Twin Princes before killing any other lords of cinder
