Pinning these FAQ's so I dont have to answer them a ton: Q: why not just use Sens gate skip? Why kill quelaag and gargs? A: You need to visit firelink altar in some capacity in order to do the wrong warp into the kiln. The only 2 ways to do that are to ring both bells and wake up frampt, or to talk to kaathe after killing 4 kings and sif. If you have a good damage source early on, its just faster to kill quelaag and gargs early just to avoid backtracking and extra bonfire activations/resting/warps. This route is over a minute faster than the previous dragon tooth route that used sens gate skip. Routing wins Q: Is this the Remaster or the original release? A: This is the original release. "Dark Souls" on Speedrun.com is the original release's leardboard for this run, and remaster has a separate leaderboard. This is due to both games having a substantial amount of differences like glitches being patched or introduced in the remaster, the in game timer working differently, and the fact they're 2 separate games with some other differences that make them not 1:1 for leaderboards or routing purposes.

You see he level up his dex points. For strenght, you can dual-wield the sword to reduce the strenght needed. DKGS is a great weapon you can use really quickly if you know what you're doing ;)

I can promise you it’s hard this guy is using 20+ different glitches at once on bosses it doesn’t really show the difficulty of the game he’s very good tho

That Taurus Demon fight was hilarious. I love the Souls games but I don’t know anything about the speedrunning strategies. I’m so amused that for some reason the brightness settings were opened up for a moment there. What even is that 😂
that was the second part of a glitch he setup with the merchant, he used a stored quantity value to underflow his twinkling titanite thus giving him 68 for upgrading black knight greatsword ( I could be entirely wrong )
that is a very common glitch that is normally used to dupe souls in order to gain infinite levels, in this case they are using the dupe glitch to get some twinkling titanite to upgrade their weapon
Imagine being Gwyn in this situation, some random ball idiot that has run past every single one of your knights pulls a gigantic sword out of his ass and begins smacking you with it while making weird gestures

Dang i havent watched dark souls speedruns in a bit, the routing changed quitee a bit, fighting taurus demon, going to merchant, no red tearstone, no bkh
Yea, we were a but surprised when it ended up being faster to just use the firelink bonfire the whole time and not do sens gate skip. But that's why this game is really cool as a speedgame. The routing can be super diverse depending on what weapons you use or what goal you have for the run. Most other categories still use sens gate skip, but for the shorter ones, its just faster to not do it anymore
Yea, it makes your character start acceleration a couple frames faster when you start sprinting. Its also used for enemy AI breaks like for the hollow room next to gargoyles or with Ornstein and Smough.
It's super fun watching this run as someone who's played the game a lot casually - recognising some glitches like weapon swap and some I've used frequently like flask soul duping, then being completely taken aback by stuff like the skip to queelag. good shit, i hope you and the community can push the time down even further
Been a huge fan of Catalystz, so I used to watch ds1 speedruns all the time and even attempted any% myself (been a few years). Watching this and seeing all the little changes in routing, all the optimizations that have changed and been taken to even greater highs … simply delightful to watch! Great run ❤
@@THEchakkidhe falls some distance whilst casing the force miracle and simultaneously swaps to the homeward miracle which warps you back to the last bonfire you rested at (being the one inside firelink alter) but the game gets confused for reasons and instead just uses a default location instead of the bonfire. it just so happens that the devs chose the default location as after the door so theres no need to fill the lord vessel

You'd have to kill 4 kings and thus also have to kill sif on top of perfoming sens gate skip, so it ends up losing like almost 2 minutes due to the longer bossfights and long running sections
Haven't watched a DS speedrun in years so a lot of this is a total mystery to me. Is there some video(s) out there that provides an overview for modern runs or explains specific glitches used?
We need 15657 souls to be able to use the greatsword, so we kill very specific enemies along the way and quite often only end up with 3 souls to spare after leveling. Its all very meticulously plotted out

I don't like speedruns in general. But I can appreciate the amount of effort and skill that goes into them though. That being said... there's something almost mesmerizing in watching DS (specially DS1) speedruns that I really love. Cheers!
you can have it, but you cant touch anything framerate related because the game's physics system is directly tied to the framerate. we are stuck at 30fps and that's fine by me 👍

BKG is harder to get than BKH for me, well the black knight at darkroot garden is easier to kill
