- We were so excited to pick up our 2014 Bigfoot 10.4 that we didn't even contemplate the possibility of it not fitting on our Ram 3500 truck properly since we'd had numerous truck campers in the past and they all seemed to fit it.
In this video Todd talks about the surprise we encountered when we went to pick up our 2014 Bigfoot 10.4 and what you should do if you want to make a Bigfoot 10.4 work on your Ram 3500.
Hope you enjoy the video and we hope to see you out on the road soon!

►2020 Bigfoot 10.4 Truck Camper - We got our 2020 Bigfoot 10.4 Truck Camper in October 2021. We were contacted by a couple of subscribers (now good friends) who had theirs up for sale in Upstate New York so we headed out on an adventure. We sold our 2014 Bigfoot 10.4 within one day of listing it online.
►2014 Bigfoot 10.4 Truck Camper - We got our 2014 Bigfoot 10.4 in August 2021 from RVOne near Charlotte, NC. Todd was headed to buy a brand new Bigfoot 10.4 just before we got the Lance 975 but when he got to Southland RV, it was sold. That's when we decided to go to the Lance 975. We knew at some point in the future we'd have a Bigfoot again and here it is.
►2021 Lance 975 - We got our new 2021 Lance 975 from Chattanooga Fish n Fun in Hixson, TN in August 2020. After looking at several models, we decided on the Lance 975 (Check out Brad's channel from Chattanooga Fish n Fun, he gives great, thorough overviews of some really nice boats and campers.) We sold the Lance 975 in August 2021.
►2019 Northern Lite 10-2 Truck Camper - Bought and delivered from Mountain Motors in Troy, MO on 12/2019 and sold it in 01/2020.
►2005 Northern Lite 10-2 Truck Camper - Picked up on 8/10/2019 we did major repairs, maintenance and renovations to this one and sold it in 12/2019.
2008 Bigfoot 21RB - Sold 12/2019, we went across country to purchase from a dealer in Pueblo Colorado.
►2006 Casita Spirit Deluxe - Sold 07/2018 when we bought our Bigfoot.
►2002 A-liner - Sold 05/2017 when bought our 2006 Casita Spirit Deluxe.
I have that on my Bigfoot and Dodge 3500 and it fit like a glove and it was a 05 Dodge .
Should’ve got a Super Duty. Bigger bed
That’s what’s on Bigfoot 10.6 and the relocation tie down fit perfect. But there is always a but my Dodge is a 05 Dodge and fenders don’t run from front to back. I have to tack Fast gun and unhook it to get fuel door which is no big deal.
Hi Todd, thanks for sharing your “trials and tribulations”. Love that Bigfoot. Great job figuring out a solution. Take care.
Thanks Dean, We appreciate you watching. I hope your doing well. - Todd
@@RunawayRoses had a wonderful Fall camping season. Currently, winterized, but we have an 18 day trip to Florida in January. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to Carla and you.
I bet the 10.6 tie downs are the same and I have a Dodge truck, so perhaps I should NOT order a BF. What do you think Todd? GREAT video, BF should address this, good grief, a lot of people own a Dodge. I do ! Thanks for sharing, Bill in Ga. NO WAY do I want the Fast Gun that close to my truck. NO WAY !
That’ll teach you.
Smart of you to figure out an work around!
Maybe try installing the fast guns upside down. Maybe it would be skinnier at the top.
Exactly my thought.
Nice job on finding an alternate solution. When we had our Ram 3500, we called those "baby making hips". :)
Really enjoy your vids helping us get educated on truck camper rv’ing. Thanks
Thank you and thanks for watching!
My 05 has smaller rear dullay fenders so it fits fine and new trucks have the whole side of bed as one beg fender .
Looks like you are correct. Scratch paint!
Oh boy, I sense another RV purchase! Lol. 😁.
I have the same issue. I am thinking to get iron angle from Home Depot, drill the holes to fit it the current tie downs attachment on the camper, and a couple more holes for the tie downs. Unless I am missing something, that will come down to about $50 per side, vs $450 from torklift.
Yea you are right the beds run al the way from front of bed to the back to make the stream line which is not good my 05 firs great not from rear to back are not good . They may look stremlight but not for a every day trucks suck !
Nice fix!
Thanks! 👍
TY for pointing this out. I never even thought about it. Love those wide hips on the Ram dually (had your truck's twin) and will keep this in mind.
I had the same issue and used a large threaded eyebolt two threaded nuts and lock washers which extended the reach of the under truck tiedown attach points farhter away from the side if the truck body.
Sounds like a good idea. Thanks for watching!
That only a problem is with the whole side fender flair it’s not good !
Anyone can steal those side clamps, to bad they don't have a key lock system on them.
You could put a sheet of 3/4 inch plywood under the camper and give you some more space for your new bars.
Pros/Cons of DRW/SRW... I'm living with a (hefty) SRW setup, and thankfully do not have this problem. Glad you did something on this - I'd honestly never thought about this. Our BF10.4 didn't have the swing out jacks when purchased... almost as though some intent for it to go on a SRW. But, the SRW needs to be hefty for this BF. Your DRW setup must have more stability and capacity. Nice mod to protect those fenders. Of course, super nice BF. I'm partial to Ram for the engine, it tows/hauls great.
You did a great job on that solution. And it looks good! We enjoy your channel and look forward to more episodes.
After two travel trailers and a fifth wheel, we bought our first truck camper yesterday. We had ordered a camper but after waiting seven months with no promise of when it would be delivered, we bought a new 2021 Lance 1172. My wife and I are already on a 700 mile journey back to Texas with the new rig and we are thoroughly enjoying it. A much less stressful way to RV!
If you use pool noodles to protect the paint you will be ok
You could convert the dually to some "super singles"! That would allow you to take that combo everywhere - including the beach.
That would be awesome. I have thought about that, who know maybe one day. Thanks for watching!
My 05 Dodge 3500 dullay fits perfect , it’s just the new ones that have hips from front to back
I was gonna say. I could make that out of angle iron steel but I have a mig welder. What a PIA.
On my ram I just put the fast guns on upside down works perfect.
Why not flip the fast guns around? On my Ram, I have the locks on the bottom.
flatbed
I have the 2021 Ram dually 3500 and a Bigfoot 10.6 camper and have a little over an inch clearance on the front fast guns and a couple of inches on the rear. If the camper shifts, it can become a problem but I just realign the camper if that happens. Really love the camper and the truck. Enjoy your channel.
That's good to hear you got a bit more clearance than I do. Maybe the 10.6 has slightly different tie down points. Thanks for watching!
I love everything about Rams except the bed fenders. Good solution but man that sucks you had to add that weight of the extender rails.
I'm not too worried about the added weight but the rails are heavy. Good point! Thanks for watching.
Nice job on the retro fit, I would also mention that adding a additional rubber mat under the camper gives some additional clearance over the fenders, in relation to the bracket.
Hey Kelley, I hope you and Glen are doing well. In the video I actually pulled that horse mat out and swapped sides with the brackets. That way the L shape of the brackets are facing out away form the fenders. Trying that to see if there would be enough clearance without having to run two mats. We're trying it out this weekend. It's close but so far so good. Todd
@@RunawayRoses hey Todd. Actually glen wrote all that using my phone. That's a good way to do it. I hope the bigfoot manufacturer sees this video and realizes the need for a change to accommodate us ram truck / bigfoot lovers. You guys have a great time.
The new Dodges used the whole side of bed is a fender and I don’t like that because if you need replace a rear fender you have to replace the whole side of the bed of truck. Not cool .
Ugly as well.
Can you use a pool noodle to protect the fender from the tie down
Bolt a 2 Inch 1/8 th in thick piece of u channel steel on to the camper tie down to move it away from the truck. Line up and drill 2 holes in u channel make sure u channel opening faces ground. Bolt back hole ( Short bolt) to camper tie down , hook s hook to outer hole should move bar a consideral amount away from truck!
Looks like the camper jack mount had room to drill a hole in it, to be the attaching point. Don't know if there is a structural reason not to attached to the jack mount. It would be a question for Bigfoot.
I agree, I would like to ask Bigfoot about that. Thanks for watching!
I believe tie down hooks are facing the wrong way.
flip the fast gun upside down, so the cam lock was on the bottom, would that gain you enough room with our the other bracket
Does it fit better with fast gun upside down ?
You could indeed extend the lower part and drill a new hole to secure it with the pin! I think the rear is best on the most rear hole to grab / hold the camper when braking.
1. REVERSE THE TIEDOWN !!
I tried that it's still super close. Thanks for watching!
Todd. I have the same truck and camper. I built a platform that stops the camper from sliding side to side. And I turn the tie downs upside-down. Clamp at the bottom.
Hey Kenneth, That sounds like a good plan. I have tried them upside-down but it was still really close. Thanks for watching!
Do u recommend slide outs or not.
What about the overhang at the back. I can leave my tailgate on and folded down and still get my Bigfoot into my box. But I only have a Ram 2500 single axle no slides in the camper.
Bigfoot out to reimburse you for your time and your money great job be blessed
Turn the Is fast gun upside down put the grip on the bottom
This may seem like a stupid question,...BUT why do you even need a tye down on the front end of the camper ?? The sheer weight of the camper on a rubber mat and the fact that you have a tie-down on the rear end which will keep the camper from sliding backward upon extreme acceleration. Unless you ran off the road on a steep sidehill subjecting the camper to violent east/west forces you should be OK. Heavy braking with the camper placed up to the very front of the bed and with the rear tie-down attached the forward tie-down is of little help other than providing a little downward pressure and of questionable value as to over all function.
Can you tell me whether you need to run any platform under your Bigfoot on the Ram, or is it sufficient to use a rubber mat?
I just use a regular rubber truck bed mat. I’ve also used a horse stall mat. I haven’t used a platform in the back of our trucks. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching!
Instead of that steel rail . Why not install a 3” 5/8 heavy eyebolt into the clamp hole on the camper? 🤷🏼♂️
I did this for my flat bed.
Any problems with stock 7 way connector in bed connecting or do you not use that.
The in bed 7 way plug is fine if that is what the camper uses. Our current Lance camper has it’s proprietary plug I had to wire in. Thanks for watching!
@@RunawayRoses thank you for the reply I have same exact truck getting ready to go get a 10.6 and the dealer said something about it possibly not working and I didn’t think they were right but had me curious
We're looking at downsizing from our trailer to either the Northern lite 10.2 or the bigfoot 10.6. Can you say why you went to the bigfoot from the Northern lite?
I am in the middle of making my 2000 truck camper fit my 2022 Silverado .. The bed is deeper so I had to block up the floor 3 inches .. also the bed almost hit the cab at rest. I noted that your front lift plates were pretty close to your new bracket connection., I might have made a plate with a loop that bolted to the bottom of that plate. Still had no idea someone made a product like that.
Great video, especially for those of us who own a Bigfoot 25C10.4 (2018) and a RAM 3500 dually (2019). We have struggled with this problem for 2 years. I bought Torklift's Relocation Kit, realized it wasn't going to work and sent it back. Then went with pipe noodles wrapped in white duct tape. Nope, left bad scratches that I now have to fix. I will call Torklift to see if they will customize their kit, but that's a very long shot. I do not possess the mechanical smarts that you do, but I'm willing to give it my best. For the center bar , drilling, etc., who would you visit first ? Metal Fabricator ? BTW, my RAM is also white. Thanks again !
Dodge 5500 solves it! I win!🤘
Hi interesting fix, did you contact the manufacture about doing that and ask if they had an adapter bracket. What your solution is create a moment arm load not good and it should be made out of tubing not angle / plate and 4 bolts that will twist good luck I hope it works
Excellent job “Re-engineering “….
I am more surprised that you did not have a bigger problem backing the hips up beyond the jacks/stands. Is the big foot so wide that the jack stands are even wider than the hips over the dallies?
The front jacks are on hinged, swing-out mounts that give enough width for the fenders.
I have 2021 ram drw and never had the front torklift tiedown that close with other brands specifically Lance and adventurer. Must be where bigfoot locates the tiedown brackets?
Yep it's definitely a Bigfoot thing. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the video. Good to know. I have a question for you. I see that you can pull your whole rig in the garage. How tall and wide is your garage door opening?
What if you turned the fast guns upside down?
Todd tried that and it was still very close 😕
Just get the Ford Todd, problem solved! You know you want it, lol.
Todd, you're 'handy' and I was wondering if you would've been comfortable drilling a hole through the camper for a galvanized eyebolt (a big one!) and pupporting it on both sides of the bolt with a steel plate? I'm guessing that the structure has reinforcement at the corners (note, that's where the bottom plate of the jack system mounting is located) so, I'm thinking that Bigfoot has either rectangular welded tubes, or- simply glassed in plywood for strength. Bigfoot makes a VERY robust glass camper, so- it would just be edjumicated guessing that they would reinforce such a high load area. Either way, snugging up an eyebolt to a nice piece of 1/4" plate (on both sides) in an area that's reinforced already would be sufficient for the pull load? Did you consider that? Or, like me, are you unwilling to willy nilly start drilling holes in your nice, clean glass truck camper?
Just another reason to NOT buy a Ram. LOL
Or a Bigfoot!! I can't believe they put those front mount so far back.
One size does NOT fit all
That is definitely true! 👍
Dang, thats terrible.
Just buy a Ford.
