Not only does the drain holes allow the water to get out in case of a leak. It also by letting water out tells you that there is a leak so you can investigate and repair and not rot out your underbelly. Great video!
Great video. Our 9.6 2500 Bigfoot is 23 years old and has 200,000+ miles on it. I have had the bottom plate off a few times. Had to replace the dump valves and a gray water plumbing leak. The bottom plate does not cover the whole bottom. It is L shaped. Runs across the front and down the drivers side. About 2 ft wide. There is no cross bracing like yours. The fresh and gray tanks sit on the foam insulation. When the bottom plate is on there is no gap so when the camper is on the truck the tanks are actually supported by the bed of the truck thus no tension on the support straps. We have no water intrusion from the bottom, no damp looking wood. Ours is built very well too! Jim.
While I understand the value of being able to drop the bottom panel as compared to my Northern Lite. I would worry about water intrusion into the bottom of the camper and rotting the frame wood over time unless the panel was well sealed with Dicor around the edges. Very difficult for the water to get in as it is sitting in the box of your truck while in transport. Sitting on its own on the jacks, I don't see how any water can reach above the panel to get at wood? Also being at the bottom it will drain if say there was a water leak in the under belly from plumbing. No accumulation. Also if you noticed all wood was covered with resin making it very water resistant even to humidity in the air. Very well done in its simple design. I would bet that in 20 yrs it would look pretty much the same inside. Commercial fishing boats are constructed very similarly.

I have a habit of crawling under motorhomes, travel trailers etc... and I am always shocked what manufacturers are selling and putting on the road. Most are absolute junk and I have no idea how they are allowed to sell such products for ridiculous money. Your camper is one product that shows that you get what you are paying for. Very good quality and in your case very serviceable. Very simply designed and well thought out. The Bigfoot RV's are a superior product.

Hadn’t previously given consideration to the bottom access issue, but now sure see the benefit of it. Another plus for Bigfoot. Just wish they had more dealer network. Live in MI with a Northern Lite dealer 30 miles away and Southland in GA is closest Bigfoot dealer to me. Keep the vids coming.
I live in Iowa. Denver wasn't going to have another Bigfoot 10.4 for another year +/- because of COVID-19. I drove to Marble Falls, TX to buy mine. Prices have gone way up since 2020. Dealer in Marble Falls is asking 70k for a new 2022 10.4!!! Crazy! Lol RV Trader has more used and new Bigfoot truck campers if you're not looking to give your first child, an arm and a leg. 😄
It’s no better up here in BC, we live only a couple of hours from both NL & BF… The dealer in Vernon has no show stock for at least the next year, every unit is sold that comes on the lot… we really want to ‘sit in’ a 10.6 before we pull the trigger on one… guess we’ll have to beg a look inside if we see one in a campground on out travels.

Now, all I could think about was hiring a spray foam company to super insulate that basement or maybe attach some sort of vapour permeable membrane along the bottom and do a blown in insulation. (I am researching truck campers to live in for retirement and I live in Canada so insulation will be important and survivability)
Ok, there's a BIG lesson to be learned (for some) here but not mentioned. The super strong sides of the camper obviously support most of the weight, but at 6' back from the front to the tail gate, is an area where the camper flares out (becoming about 58" wide) to take advantage of that wider space, that strong structure ALSO flares. So the lesson is: An older Bigfoot camper can not sit on just a 4X8 sheet of plywood to be "built up" in order to clear the newer and taller cabs of more modern trucks. If you need a couple inches of spacer between the truck bed and the bottom of the camper, MAKE SURE you also support that additional width back there. Otherwise you're basically sitting on the tanks - and they won't last long. Todd's flatbed - not an issue. If your camper sits directly on the truck bed - again, not an issue. But (for instance) a 2001 model 2500 10.6 has to have blocking to sit in a newer high cab vehicle.
Better design than Northern lite, like you said nothing gets in but then again nothing gets out in a NL, have a ruptured tank on a Bigfoot and it'll drain out in a NL you'll have a pond in your belly.
Oh - I thought these were a fiberglass frame totally underneath. Surprise. Looks like there is some additional unused storage space. Nice to see how well insulated the floor is. Steel beams are great. Having access for repairs is good. just hope if truck bed had water in it would it get in? Good idea to look inside down there before buying a used one to see if there had been problems.

When you go to look at campers look at the bottom of slide outs are white painted alum or covered with a cloth with fired glass or just plywood and you want to see a alum plate covering the bottom of slide out and that’s is what they built to last.

Those square headed screws are properly called "Robertson" screws. They are far superior to "Philip's" screws. Apparently Mr Robertson and Mr Henry Ford could not come to an agreement so many years ago. Consequently Americans still use the inferior Philips.
Hey Todd? What is that bottom cover material made of? Some sheet good that could buy in a store or order? Mine is old and cracked, some of the screws have wallowed their way through it so it's beginning to sag.

Truck camper Magazine, the original source of this demonstration video convinced my purchase decision to go with Northern Lite BECAUSE of the many accolades and salutations they the reviewers convinced me the buyer! Now, I see pulling off the bottom panels makes all us who paid $65,000 foolish as our plumbing is not accessible easily! Which BTW you guys said at the end before you purchase a camper, you might want to pull the panels off NEW units to make sure an owner can get to his pluming! Really kid’s? Leaking ? So? Your telling us New Units will soon start leaking leaching grey water, toilet at anytime all because because N.L. Fails to provide access panels! We’re all doomed to depravity and misery as flooding just like the solidly built Titanic, the unsinkable ship so doomed its passengers!?! I can’t even begin to estimate the number of hours I’ve watched videos trying to make my decision on high dollar truck campers to the date. I am also at the point that as a consumer, I’m not sure of the true value these videos bring us consumers anymore. Hi Gary, Sorry if our video upset you we certainly didn't mean to upset anyone. We just wanted to show people what the underside of the Bigfoot looks like and what is accessible. If you bought a Northern Lite that was a great choice, we love Northern Lite campers. They are great campers and well built. We are big fans of the Northern Lite and Bigfoot and there are some features we prefer that the Northern Lite has over the Bigfoot such as the 80" bed. The Bigfoot only has a 74" bed and it's kind of a bummer for someone six foot or more. There is definitely no perfect camper out there and they can all have problems no matter what age from our experience. Our toilet leaked and I had to fix it a couple months ago and our 2020 Bigfoot hasn't been used much so you never know. I've had to fix stuff on every brand camper we've ever had. For the money we all spend on them it seems like we shouldn't have those types of issues. Enjoy your awesome Northern Lite and safe travels. Thanks for watching ~ Todd

I like the high end reflective thermal glass in the bigfoots as opposed to the plastic windows in the Northern Lite, but would love to have ab 80" bed.
Call the manufacturer they'll tell you they'll even send you pictures don't be doing that you guys have got something pretty cool going on but that's the last thing you need to do if it ain't broke don't fix it you want to know what's in that go to the company call them get on the internet they'll show you they'll send you pictures so you're busting a seal to get in here to see what's in there guys good luck on reselling it if you ever do I think your wife don't want to do this but you want to you guys are better than that you know better damn this is foolish
I own a Big Foot Camper. Have to be Honest and say its quite a Piece of Crap. Currently attempting to strengthen the fron t section (where the bed Is) that has drooped badly. Doesn't really look where on the Unit as its all pretty cheaply made. Considering the cost it was PATHETIC how it was Built,. Think a Chinese one would be way Better.
I was thinking the same thing throughout this video. The jacks aren’t likely to fail, but I’ve little faith in their attachment to the camper itself. Cribbing the camper wouldn’t take much effort and could avoid a catastrophic consequence.
Looks like they have improved the tank supports. Mine gave birth to the fresh water tank last fall. The angle iron was fastened with two tiny screws at each end which had rusted and broken. The tank was only supported by the cover screws and came falling out when it was half full. Lots of fun to fix that! I added four 1/4" stainless lag screws for each end.

I like the accessibility aspect for sure. I have a NL and want to put Sealevels on but am not sure how to get to the gray /fresh tanks. You could potentially add more insulation in areas in your Bigfoot as well. Nice to see the steel beam structure but is it just screwed into the fiberglass or was there some embedded wood? In the bottom of my new Keystone Cougar was a whole bunch of garbage. Couldn't believe how much crap was just thrown down in and left there, and that was only in front area, haven't been able to see whats further back cuz the skirting is riveted on.

Awesome video! I've always wondered what was lurking above that panel on my 25C10.4. Very impressed with the construction methods too. This is sort of backs up the saying that Bigfoot campers are a lifetime camper. Change the interior colors when needed, and keep on trucking. Unlike a lot of junk coming out of the factories now.

My '96 BF10.6 was plumbed with Polybutylene and has started to leak. This vid helped immensely. I've owned this camper for 25 years and has lived it life in Alaska. Other campers would have died years ago. Now upgrading plumbing to PEX-A, new refrig, and it's ready for a trip to the Yukon.
I’m impressed too . My 1999 Northstar is left open , maybe for access . I am thinking of closing it in and add some more foam too it and it adds a little spacing to the camper height . It is nice too know your way around things . Makes you feel more secure as a doityourselfer . 👍
Been on the fence about which camper we should invest in next, BF or NL. Not hearing great things about the current quality of NL’s due to the pressures the manufacturers are under to get units out currently. So, after seeing this we’re leaning towards a used BF 10.6 and we’ll spend the savings on upgrades to it. Having access to the tanks is a must for long term maintenance. Good job 👍
I wasn’t sure what you were “up” to this episode. Very interesting on the under belly. Not four season equipped, since no insulation around the pipes? My old class C Bigfoot was winterized. Love the quality though. Whichever year/model they offer.
Its a heated underbelly. The heated underbelly is a great idea because heat rises. A hot underbelly will produce a warm floor and comfortable living area. That's predominately how we build houses here in Canada. Heat the basement very warm which makes the above living area very comfortable.
I just can believe you would get a Lance camper with slide outs besides the weight and all the side panels have a chance to leak , with the 5th wheels you would think you know what works and first place they would leek I have Thor Park Avenue which has been great for years and it’s 2000 year and I coated it with liquid rubber roof and it’s great and it’s under a 24 x 54 carport and it doesn’t move my wife took a week or two and loosed her new Honda Accord and filled her trunk with bricks and did that until she got it done she is a keeper she works her little nuts off!
And the Bigfoot drain holes because if it is sealed up you will start gaining weight until you see it coming out the heat vents! Oh boy what fun it is !!

What about the sink in our kitchens of our homes? Think about it, it’s usually a smell you notice before you notice a small leak.
Bigfoot owners and very humid and wet climates means water always in the bed of your truck.

While that bottom is exposed would it be worth putting foam wrap around any and all pipes you can see and get to

No way would I crawl under a camper without some kind of safety equipment in case the camper falls.
They're not hydraulic jacks.. being on a concrete floor indoors it's not going anywhere..

I like the accessibility aspect for sure. I have a NL and want to put Sealevels on but am not sure how to get to the gray /fresh tanks. You could potentially add more insulation in areas in your Bigfoot as well. Nice to see the steel beam structure but is it just screwed into the fiberglass or was there some embedded wood? Anyway….great video Carla and Todd. Thanks for sharing your experience with this. Awesome. Very cool.
In the bottom of my new Keystone Cougar was a whole bunch of garbage. Couldn't believe how much crap was just thrown down in and left there, and that was only in front area, haven't been able to see whats further back cuz the skirting is riveted on.
The belly of the beast, that's funny! We have a 2020 NL 10.2, hopefully we never to get in there to fix anything cuz it doesn't look like fun climbing in there.

Awesome video! I've always wondered what was lurking above that panel on my 25C10.4. Very impressed with the construction methods too. This is sort of backs up the saying that Bigfoot campers are a lifetime camper. Change the interior colors when needed, and keep on trucking. Unlike a lot of junk coming out of the factories now.

Thanks so much for making this video. Really helped me to decide between Bigfoot and Northern Lite. Access to all the tanks and plumbing is essential.
My '96 BF10.6 was plumbed with Polybutylene and has started to leak. This vid helped immensely. I've owned this camper for 25 years and has lived it life in Alaska. Other campers would have died years ago. Now upgrading plumbing to PEX-A, new refrig, and it's ready for a trip to the Yukon.
I’m impressed too . My 1999 Northstar is left open , maybe for access . I am thinking of closing it in and add some more foam too it and it adds a little spacing to the camper height . It is nice too know your way around things . Makes you feel more secure as a doityourselfer . 👍
Been on the fence about which camper we should invest in next, BF or NL. Not hearing great things about the current quality of NL’s due to the pressures the manufacturers are under to get units out currently. So, after seeing this we’re leaning towards a used BF 10.6 and we’ll spend the savings on upgrades to it. Having access to the tanks is a must for long term maintenance. Good job 👍
I wasn’t sure what you were “up” to this episode. Very interesting on the under belly. Not four season equipped, since no insulation around the pipes? My old class C Bigfoot was winterized. Love the quality though. Whichever year/model they offer.
Its a heated underbelly. The heated underbelly is a great idea because heat rises. A hot underbelly will produce a warm floor and comfortable living area. That's predominately how we build houses here in Canada. Heat the basement very warm which makes the above living area very comfortable.
It is absolutely 4 season.
I just can believe you would get a Lance camper with slide outs besides the weight and all the side panels have a chance to leak , with the 5th wheels you would think you know what works and first place they would leek I have Thor Park Avenue which has been great for years and it’s 2000 year and I coated it with liquid rubber roof and it’s great and it’s under a 24 x 54 carport and it doesn’t move my wife took a week or two and loosed her new Honda Accord and filled her trunk with bricks and did that until she got it done she is a keeper she works her little nuts off!
They are built like a tank . What a built like a tank the did not dump notsnk !!
And the Bigfoot drain holes because if it is sealed up you will start gaining weight until you see it coming out the heat vents! Oh boy what fun it is !!

Do you put a bead of silicone sealant around the perimeter of the panel before screwing it in place? Also, how tall are your garage doors? I noticed you can drive your camper loaded on your truck inside your garage. Thanks for the video.

That sucks that there's wood in there I thought they were all fiberglass for those Reasons I'm out
