GO watch Unique's two videos on pirating anime and all will be explained in better detail than this.
Uniquenameosaurus To add an example to your streaming service innovation argument, I must say Crunchyroll's lack of such is why I don't use it. I LOVE AnimeLab because it is user friendly, everything is easy to find, visually coherent, smooth, and gives you the information you want to know without obscuring anything else or making clutter. Crunchyroll as I'm sure you know is a visual mess compared to AnimeLab and yes I know preferences differ from person to person, but I'm talking about me, and Crunchyroll drove me away. Also being a student learning web design I can SEE the htlm code from Crunchyroll in my head and I hate it. And yes Crunchyroll has more information like when a new episode will be out, but anilist.co has the exact same feature and its gui is so user friendly and smooth and UHGGG I love it so much. Its like MAL but better and also functional. I'd rather use 2 different services/ go through the effort of opening 2 tabs instead of 1, just to get all the same information in a neater package (anilist+AnimeLab) TLDR; Crunchyroll is a visual mess and AnimeLab isn't. Now that's the innovation I want to see. Now I just hope I didn't miss the point of your argument and make a fool of myself but whatever what I said still stands.
If we took the amount of money just half of these shills made by defending companies like crunchy roll we could single handedly fund an entire studio or two at this point.
@@LaymensLameMan yeah, i can see how this is confusing for people who dont know the situation, i recommend you watch "why you should pirate anime" 1&2 that should give you the context
"And then once that quality service came about, they kept on pirating because illegal sites still had a better selection of anime for free, because the Pirates of the West were never acting in good faith to begin with." Also, pirates aren't consumers.
@@Zalis116 Piracy of Anime actually went down dramatically when Crunchyroll first started. At least for the series it offered. The same phenomenon has been shown for Netflix, Spotify, Apple music, and Steam. Not saying that all of these are perfect products, but they make it very easy to get what you need while piracy still has a lot of issues barring people from doing it. Also, yes we are consumers. We are literally consuming Anime. We are not customers though. Key difference.
@@redgeoblaze3752 Consumers, in economic terms, are those who pay for goods and services. Just as the mice who eat the wheat in grain elevators are not consumers, neither are media pirates. But defeating the Anime Pope and legal sites like CR won't actually bring about a quality service or a better experience for anime viewers, because if legal sites go out of business due to everyone pirating, illegal sites won't have any same-day translations to steal.
@@Zalis116 Unique actually mentions this in the Part 2 video. If CrunchyRoll is so dumb that they'll go out of business before listening to the boycott, then it's only a matter of time before some other group steps up to do what they did, but better. Also, when I said it was better for consumers, that's exactly what I meant. That it'll be a better product for their paying customers, encouraging us who pirate to just come back to legal streaming. I'd do it if it was convenient enough. It's pretty annoying to try and find all episodes of a show I'm watching at the same quality with the right subtitles.
@@redgeoblaze3752 Dropping subscriptions and switching to piracy to watch the same content, as UNS advocated, is not a boycott. Since illegal sites get their videos and translations from legal sites, anime pirates are *not* going without the companies' products to send a message -- they're just getting their entertainment paid for by other people's money. And if CR et al go out of business due to piracy, what other company is going to look at the anime landscape and think, "Boy, investing in this weird niche entertainment medium where the people who like it the most refuse to pay for it looks like a great business opportunity"? Not to mention, the trust and relationships that current distributors have with Japanese content owners can't be built out of nowhere overnight by new players, and any new startup is going to get kneecapped by piracy before they can ever get established.
It's been more than a year since this video came out and I still come back to it every so often to brighten up my day. It's one among the best, most effective, and incredibly heartwarming pick-me-ups I've come across thus far (especially given all of the drama, videos, tweets, etc. that led up to this).
Thanks for start all of this, it really helped me to realize the things that the industry and cr do wrong. Its stupid how most of people pretend nothing happened, the animation dormitory is a great project and I hope they continue to grow. Cheers, captain!
Hm? Every industry does wrong, However CR does it a lot better then what it was before. The old ways gave birth to the knew, was it clean? No, was it kind? No, but without the old ways afore the new, it would've never happened.
@@lurac5710 I would give CR more of a pass if they weren't still using Flash on their website when it's 2019 and even pirate sites have better streaming options. And when they really should update their website, they instead put their money towards making some anime wanna be SJW garbage show that not a single person asked for. I only keep my subscription as I like to watch anime on my TV and with premium I can through my PS4
I saw the og Should Pirate video on my recommended list for a while, but brushed it off as I'd just seen MB's piracy video. Same with 2. I remember I'd never taken a business course but felt fine with MBs points even if they felt random. But I forgot it. Here I am having taken a business course, watching the two should pirate vids back to back, and... yeah? Holy shit? I always thought MB calling himself a professional shitbag was just a self deprecating joke, but now... yeah. Burying the other guy's argument like that is just bad practice. So. New sub to the channel, I've got a backlog to trawl through, and I think I'll be taking to the high seas myself. While ACTUALLY supporting the industry, mind, not a glorified middleman.
Everyone likes to make that comparison, but Martin Luther didn't go around telling people, "Sin all you want, other people's money will pay for your indulgences."
I’ve been a pirate for years now. I’m glad to be a remember of your crew. Because its true. Currently Piracy is the best option to watch anime because the streaming industry refuses to improve. Crunchyroll will implode at some point. Causing everyone to either make their own or freak out. However us pirates. We will NEVER back down. We will strive and move forward until the sun sets and the earth burns.
So what's the point of the streaming industry improving, if pirates are gonna pirate no matter what? Would you say that the guy who said that legal sites innovating would "bring in the HUGE market of people who never cared about supporting the industry in the first place" was wrong? Sounds like legal sites would be better served just raising their prices (thus maintaining the same amount of revenues from the smaller moralistic/"support the industry" crowd) and focusing on legal takedowns of bootleg streaming sites because you can't simply "compete moar" against cheaters. And that's more or less what's happening.
i feel like uniquenameosauris could be a psychopath or something like that that lets him understand people super well (my vocab is like 7 words so i don't know what it would be). then he just uses it to be become the perfect arguer destroying his opponents with facts and logic aswell as just giving himself the moral high ground through a well constructed arguement, and it just amazes me everytime he uploads because i was heavily on the other side of a few of his arguments and after watching the video i became a sheep left a like and subscribed. truly a top tier wifu
A psychopath is someone who has a mental disorder that causes them to only think for themselves, and generally to not care about other people. Of course, they can hide this nature, and often do so through being charismatic, which is the word I think you're looking for.
Proud to say i have become the ultimate pirate. My crunchyroll guest pass glitched out and gave me permanent premium, now i get to pirate crunchyroll itself for 1080p new episodes for free forever
2:00 "No other media distributor can say that." Ah, yes, I sure do love all of my GoG exclusives. And you can't even be mad at DRM-protected first party exclusives like the Witcher 3, and Cyberpunk- oh wait, Miles is talking out of his arse.
My jaw dropped when I saw how much went to the donations, I was so monumentally giddy and am so proud of everyone that joined the Pirates of the West in this treck to dissolve CR's tomfoolery while also supporting an amazing cause.
Meanwhile, those donors are still dependent on the actual consumers who pay the full-freight asking price to keep the existing system functioning. Funding animator dorms won't mean much when piracy causes the system to collapse and drives distributors, publishers, and studios out of business.
God, Americans have gone from throwing tea over ships to protest taxes, to pirating Chinese cartoons to protest exclusive licenses. We really are in an age of technology.
The original Tea Partiers actually went without that tea in protest; they didn't have others buy it for them, the way media pirates enjoy free entertainment paid for by other people's money. If those who have genuine philosophical objections to the anime industry's practices actually want to protest/boycott them, they should refrain from watching anime that's legally available in their area. Can't have it both ways.
@@Zalis116 I mean, the tea costed money because of labor, shipping, etc so that costed other people's money too. It was essentially bought by someone else so that they could throw it over the ships. They still used someone else's tea and money.
@@Zalis116 worth mentioning, pirates have always been one of the most significant sources of innovation when it comes to features people actually want (as opposed to what corporations WANT people to want) as well as efficient and robust ways of distributing lots of data to lots of people on limited bandwidth. There's a reason Napster was bought instead of shut down. I wouldn't be surprised if someone wanted to buy Popcorn Time, too.
@@water1374 They still took those actions in a way that served a cause greater than themselves, not their own interests, i.e. they didn't just take the tea and drink it themselves. To cite another historical example, the civil rights activists that carried out the Montgomery bus boycotts didn't sneak onto the buses for free; they didn't use the buses, and forwent any personal convenience or benefit that the bus service provided. Media piracy isn't serving any "greater than the self" cause because it's not sacrificing anything. In a real boycott, businesses have incentive to meet activists' demands (receiving lost business and revenue from those activists), and activists have incentive to stop the boycott if their demands are met (being able to access/enjoy the products/services they'd been going without). But in phony so-called boycotts executed by media pirates, the latter incentive isn't there -- they're still receiving the product either way. In fact, they have *more* incentive to dredge up more grievances and continue getting what they want for free. _I am altering the deal, pray I don't alter it any further._ And on those same lines, even if exclusive licenses went away, anime pirates would still continue to pirate, since bootleg streaming sites would still have a better selection for free. After all, UNS has exhorted his followers not to pay for anime for charitable reasons or to "support the industry"; they're not going to suddenly turn around and start paying for anime just because companies are competing the "right" way.
@@AugustusBohn0 The main feature people want and care about is "free stuff." It doesn't matter if they have to navigate to different websites to get it, or watch worse video quality than the legal sites (with the same translations), or deal with the anti-adware/anti-malware arms race, or click picture verifications between episodes, or otherwise go through hell and high water -- they'll do it. Not to mention, not having to deal with licensing contracts and agreements is what enables pirate sites and apps to have features, like MAL integration, that legal sites cannot implement. Funny how it's easier to win when you don't have to play by the same rules as your opponents. Should legal sites put more effort and resources into improving their sites/players? Yes, but pirate sites are not legitimate competitors to legal services; they are cheaters. Napster was eventually bought, but only after various lawsuits and injunctions drove them into bankruptcy and forced them to pay damages to music rights holders. They tried to go legal as a subscription music service, but most of their traffic evaporated in favor of other P2P programs. And those successors, like LimeWire and Kazaa, didn't just decide to call it a day because iTunes and Spotify were offering more "innovative" and consumer-friendly services -- they were also shut down. Perhaps the relative success of sites like Netflix and Hulu stems less from nebulous innovation and more from the greater resources that US/Western content creators have to have the law enforced against bad actors and cheaters. That's how the free and fair market is _supposed_ to function.

When I compare the person to the only visual representation I have of them, I look for these "meaningless acessories", especially when they represent themselves with a cartoon-ish version of their IRL look.
As in, if you're looking for someone in a crowd and they tell you "Red Shirt, Black Overcoat and Feather plumed Fedora" you tend to look for that first and then look at their face.

To add an example to your streaming service innovation argument, I must say Crunchyroll's lack of such is why I don't use it.
I'd rather use 2 different services/ go through the effort of opening 2 tabs instead of 1, just to get all the same information in a neater package (anilist+AnimeLab)
TLDR; Crunchyroll is a visual mess and AnimeLab isn't. Now that's the innovation I want to see.
Now I just hope I didn't miss the point of your argument and make a fool of myself but whatever what I said still stands.
If we took the amount of money just half of these shills made by defending companies like crunchy roll we could single handedly fund an entire studio or two at this point.

Me to my Grandkids: "And so the Pirates of the West fought against the Anime Pope and his disciples to fight for a quality service for the consumers."
"And then once that quality service came about, they kept on pirating because illegal sites still had a better selection of anime for free, because the Pirates of the West were never acting in good faith to begin with."
Also, pirates aren't consumers.

Okay so I’m not the only one
Oml I was shook watching this vid. Great job setting this all up.
_I am altering the deal, pray I don't alter it any further._
And on those same lines, even if exclusive licenses went away, anime pirates would still continue to pirate, since bootleg streaming sites would still have a better selection for free.
