  • The final dyno results are in on my 2018 Kawasaki Ninja 1000. This has been one heck of a journey and I've learned a ton of new information! I couldn't have done it without feedback from you and my fellow forum members out on the Kawasaki Ninja 1000 Forum. Overall I'm really happy with this project and honestly I'm looking forward to moving on with other things. Hopefully this series will help one of you make decisions on your Ninja 1000 exhaust and if that happens I couldn't be happier.
    Make sure to subscribe so you don't miss out on future content and please leave me questions and comments below! As always guys, thank you for watching!

    I have a full delkevic exhaust connected to a set of two brothers on my 2017 Ninja 1000 with a KN air filter. I had it professional woolich tune done and it created 139.97 rear horsepower :)

    Here's what you need to do....
    1- Get more miles on the bike. You can do this by road tripping out to western NC, and we will hit all the roads most people with bikes dream of riding.
    2- I'll take you to Superbike Unlimited, and they can tune the ever-loving hell out of the Ninja.
    3- Smile all the way back to IL.
    4- Upload tons of new content.
    5- Drink beer.
    Don't be bummed about the results. Not only did you gain some power, and achieve the sound you wanted, you also reduced the weight of the bike by a significant amount! All of that = a win in my book. Yet another great video my friend, keep them coming!

      1 - I'm totally down with that, maybe the wife and will head your way next summer we've been talking about visiting NC.
      2 - I think I'd be down with that as well
      3 - I think I'd be smiling more leaving IL as this is one of the most f'd up states in the Union but either way I get where you're going with that.
      4 - YES!! and you as well...need plenty of GoPro batteries :)
      5 - Every night brother!
      I agree with your assessment I think I was a little upset the day it happened but as I've said, I'm over it and I really have nothing to be upset about. I do consider the whole thing a win...was just not matching my own fantasy numbers I had in my head when I started. Now GO PAINT THAT BIKE I WANT TO SEE IT!!!!

      Ivan's Performance on the east coast, ECU flash, full Akra, filter, etc. Of course this is up to 2016. www.ivansperformanceproducts.com/2014%20Z1000%20All%20Stock%20vs%20full%20Akra%20abmod%20pkg.GIF
      Even the first generation of the bike had hotter intake cams and made 146 whp./85 tq. www.ivansperformanceproducts.com/sxfinal%20vs%20stk.gif
      Why is Kawasaki choking this thing down, while simultaneously building an H2SX? Psh. Considering Suzuki GSX-S1000 is a 999cc engine and putting out well over 150 whp after flash, full system, tune? Kawasaki is dumbing the N1K down.

      Lifted_Above4 Lol Have read and agree with all your comments. Love this bike (the 2016) but Kawasaki frustrates the hell out me sometimes. They should be making 160-170HP stock, at least!

    This sounds like normal results. Thanks for documenting your journey. As I've seen elsewhere, if you want a lot more power, get a different bike. Check out the BMW S1000 XR. Then again, 120hp is a lot of power for the street. Adding a few hp at redline yields very little difference in day to day street riding. Better to keep it stock, use all of the power it has, and retain the resale value.

    My 2018 Ninja 1000 has a full Akropovic race header along with the Kawasaki/Akrapovic exhaust (sold through the dealership as the OEM perfomance package) carbon mufflers (baffles removed) with K&N air filter and pair valves blocked off. My base run was taken on a DJ Superflow WinDyn V2.7 with ideal temperature conditions. I am making 143.7 DjWhPw and 86.4 DjWhTq prior to my tune. My A/F L1 [Max 12.8] and the fuel line is pretty stable (prior to the tune). We anticipate the final WhPw to be ~148.

    I did a full exhaust with power commander the 2017 Ninja 650 only had about 300 miles on her when I did mine with dyno it came up with about 60 hp but also like your mine wasn't broke in yet and now with over a thousand miles you can feel the power coming in all the time... yours looks good and sounds good in the end it only matters how it sounds and how much power you gain by doing every thing you did...as always ride safe...

      Thanks Papasmurf for sharing your story about your 650! Thats awesome!I just turned over 1000 miles a couple days ago so I'm trying to pay attention to how the bike pulls. I've never been unhappy about the power the N1K has and I'm confident that I'll never push it to it's capability. I'm very happy with the setup despite the numbers maybe not being as great as I had hoped. I learned tons though so as far as I'm concerned it was a really positive experience. Thanks for the comment as always!

  • @85waspnest

    Somewhat surprising dyno numbers there. However, a number is just a number, the main thing is your bike FEELS stronger and runs smoother and responsively than before. Be happy, you got a great result with NO MORE EXHAUST POPPING !!! Glad you heeded my earlier advice about bunging up the PAIR vacuum pipe. I've yet to be convinced K&N air filters improve power. I've seen dyno comparisons showing no difference whatsoever, they're comparatively expensive and according to tests don't filter or flow as much as stock filters. Finally, I'm surprised you didn't wait until your bike's fully run in before doing the mods, especially at less than 1000 miles. I ran my Z1000SX (UK badged Ninja) in by the book by not exceeding 4000 rpm until the 1st service at 600 miles, 6000 rpm until 1000 miles and vary the revs as much as possible. Keep making the vids and ride safe.

    • @StormtrooperRides
      @StormtrooperRides  6 років тому +2

      85waspnest appreciate the feedback and yes I agree. I'm glad to hear what you're saying about K&N as I wondered the same thing. So many posts though that swear by K&N and in the scheme of things it was only $50 but I hear what you're saying and maybe its just a really great marketing team there at K&N...but its in the bike now and I'm going to keep it in there. As I said in the video I dont think its hurting the bike. I was not as strict as you when it came to break-in but here is what I did do. From 0-600 miles I kept the bike well under 6k rpm's and I do a lot of in town driving so varying RPM's was required. After 600 miles I pretty much just rode the bike normally once I changed the oil. There is a lot of debate on this topic and will probably be the subject of a video I do in the future but I respect both sides of this argument and I'm not sure at this point what is the right answer. I shot for the middle of this one and for me I do not think I did any damage to the bike. I probably should have waited...or rode more to get the miles up but I had roughly 700 miles on the bike when I put the exhaust on so we'll see how it turns out down the road. I am happy with the result and I do appreciate the advice on the PAIR valve block off. Thank you for the comment and for stopping by, lots more to come!

    • @85waspnest
      @85waspnest 6 років тому +2

      Don't worry about the K&N, it won't do any harm. I've tried a variety of 'go faster' air filters over the years and couldn't tell the difference unless the old one was clogged. I reckon those swearing by them either needed a change, or it's the placebo effect of the hype and paying 3 x the price of a stock filter. The same can be said about tyres, any make of new tyre performs better than a bald squared off one :-). The pre 600 mile rev limit care is particularly important until the oil is changed. One owner (Jonathan Long on UA-cam) sent a sample of his Ninja 1000's oil for analysis to find out if it's the same as ordinary oil. It was found to contain a lower (or higher) percentage of a certain wear additive, assumed shorten the break in period.

    Love your videos Man don't take this the wrong way, but you get what you pay for. There's a reason the Akrapovic exhaust are so expensive. Each exhaust company works best for a specific bike and the Akrapovic works the best for the Ninja z1000sx. Sorry that's the way it is.

    You and your wife's bikes are stunning, and sounds awesome, your reviews are articulate and clear, nice to watch. I love my humble pristine 2nd hand 2012 Honda cbf 600 sa with only 16000 km s on the clocks, i enjoy a very flat torque curve, in 6th gear @70km hr I can only open up and there is no jerking.i also love the sound of the 4cyl motor, the exhaust is stock, produces only 75 ish brake horse power which i find ample, especially considering the speed limits and general safe operation of a vehicle.
    Here in rsa i constantly get nice compliments on my machine where ever i stop.Like in America here we also have buatifull machines the whole spectrum. Kawa, BMW, Suz, KTM, Harley etch. The country's economy is very tough though.

    The bike looks great, sounds great, puts an enormous smile on your face..And really, would you really notice any gains and how fast do you need the bike to be anyway?
    And all for pretty much the price of a pair of Acro slip ons..

      Yeah its possible you are right on that one Colonel! Having said that though, the full system from Black Widow represented a better value to me especially not knowing what the results would eventually be. I really love the sound of the Black Widow (I know that is subjective but to me its perfect!) so I'm really happy and at the end of the day I didn't spend any more on my system than if I had bought most slip-ons available....but if I were to buy slip-ons I would get the Urban Brawlers as I think they are priced appropriately for what they are. Thank you for stopping by and your comment!

      StormtrooperNinja true - looking at the web - you got incredible deal - 5 bhp is good (baffle in) I’m just nervous about spending getting out of control - plus I like 2 pipes not single hence....it would be great to do it with baffle out and with power commander 5 - do you think that would help with proper retune on dyno ?

  • @hammer-fn7gm
    @hammer-fn7gm 5 років тому

    I like your video and thought process that went in to it. I have chosen a different route. I am getting the Black Widow slipons. All I am looking for is a slightly louder exhaust and a less bulky mufflers. I will still have the exhaust pipe on the chain side, but much smaller. I wanted to retain the factory ECU and keep the catalytic converter.

  • @paulmathison2906
    @paulmathison2906 6 років тому +10

    Around 5hp at the wheel is still a reasonable gain, with the losses in the gearbox and transmission it will be more than that at the crack. The main thing is are you happy with the sound of it, and if it's running cooler that can't be a bad thing. Also the reduction in weight of the new exhaust will help. Really enjoy your videos, keep up the good work, and I think the bike sounds great.

    • @StormtrooperRides
      @StormtrooperRides  6 років тому +1

      Yup Paul I couldn't agree more I think I just got caught up in my own fantasies about what the new pipes and ECU flash could do. After I had some time to get over the initial shock of the numbers I really had a change of heart about the whole thing and at the end of the day I'm really happy and I stand by my decisions. If there would have been an Ivan's flash available I would have gone that way but I've heard really good things about 2WDW so I went with them. Someday I hope to be able to just do a fully dyno tune and see what the numbers CAN be but it never was the priority and I can really appreciate that now. Like you pointed out to me, 4-5 HP is not a bad result just maybe not as good as it could have been. I really appreciate your perspective and thanks for the comment!

    Good video. I've been looking for a full exhaust system for a little while now for my 01' ZX-12R. Yes, I'm still running with the stock exhaust after 19yrs of ownership. Like you I wanted to get an Akrapovic system but unfortunately my bike is just too old and they no longer make them. Did some searching this evening and found these Black Widow exhausts on Ebay. Found your videos while researching reviews on this product. I gotta say, they look and sound really nice, especially at that price! A good selection of models/styles. Now it does say they recommend using stock ECU settings as that's the way these pipes were engineered. That's fine with myself. The bike's insanely fast/torquey enough for me! I'm just looking for weight savings, sound and style.

  • @williamwintemberg
    @williamwintemberg 6 років тому +5

    Great Video once again! OK! The numbers may not be as bad as they look or they could be worse, depending. I could write a book but I'll keep this short. Data is all important. If you are interested in finding more answers. You may want to get the temperatures, humidity and barometric pressures for the dates and times of days the Dyno runs were done. You may have had an advantage on the stock run and a disadvange on the modified run. The higher the temperature, the less dense the air. Less dense air translates to less HP. Lower barometric pressure also translates into less air getting into the engine which also means less HP. Finally, humidity. The higher the relative humidity the longer it takes to burn the fuel. Longer burn usually turns into more HP. Some Dynos incorporate a correction factor for this stuff and some don't. As far as the exhaust you purchaced? For me? Regular street use? I like to see crossover tubes on the headers. These crossover tubes add to the low and mid-range torque figures while sometimes sacrificing some HP gains and in my opinion smooth out the exhaust sound. Although, sound is a matter of taste. So, you set out with a list of things you wanted to do and you accomplished everything you wanted to do. So you may not be happy with the numbers. Maybe with a bit of research you still may be. Whatever the case success it is and one Great Video to boot! Good Stuff for All!

    • @StormtrooperRides
      @StormtrooperRides  6 років тому +3

      Ah William you always know how to make me feel better about stuff like this that I dont have a great grasp of! If I'm honest, the humidity was lower on the final run and it was a bit cooler but the conditions in the shop seemed identical. I'm not sure what (or if) correction factor was used. I think I was upset at the time of the run because I think I was expecting 8-10 (or more)HP gain but after the shock of it and I had some time to think it through I wasn't really unhappy at all. I got a good 4.5 HP out of it so to me that is far better than it not changing at all or if it would have been worse. I cannot really complain too much as I think I got pretty good deals on the items I applied. Overall, like you said, the project was a success and I accomplished most of what I set out to do when I started. Thanks so much as always for the compliment and for continuing to watch my vids! Looking forward to many more conversations in the future! Take care!

    You should've dynoed before and after the exhaust change coz the run I might be under reading the figures. Alternatively if u r mad enough u could put back the stock exhaust and recheck the figures on the same dyno. Call in some biker boys to help u out speeding up things. Lastly, if the headers are not of the right dimensions you could actually lose power, pls be mindful of the same....

    I have an '03 first gen FZ1 bone stock except for a Yosh slip on. This dyno, hp and tq, looks almost identical to mine through the entire powerband. With a Holeshot header, stage 2 jet kit and timing advance it would go up into the 140hp range.
    My dealer has two '18 Ninja 1000's on sale and I love it, it's the only new bike I would consider getting rid of my FZ1 for. But it seems there has to be more power in it somewhere. Not that you really need it, though.

  • @Supercharged1976
    @Supercharged1976 4 роки тому

    For a cheap exhaust that's a pretty significant gain. Even with top of the line exhausts you will generally only gain 4-6hp in some rare cases you can get 10 but that's usually on hyperbikes that are emissioned into the dirt. The tune on the ECU would gain you almost no HP or very little. Unless they were adjusting your ignition which it doesn't sound like they did. So the fact you gained that much horsepower from a super cheapy exhaust would be a huge win in my book.

  • @joflewbyu2377
    @joflewbyu2377 3 роки тому

    Numbers aside, ~ 20 lb weight loss, better throttle response and a cooler running engine are all benefits worth the effort. Better looks and a tad more power are icing on the cake. Don’t get all caught up in a numbers war. The comparison stock to modified on the same dyno under similar conditions is proof. Without the baffle probably would have netted you a few more hp. Remember, all that matters is if you enjoy it.

    All it really says is that the manufacturers do a pretty good job squeezing the grunt out of these bikes, I have learned this over the years and no longer waste my money on these upgrades...
    Most people think that changing the exhaust and air cleaner causes the bike to run lean, that's going to be pretty hard to do as long as the oxs is still in the system.
    I would not remove it and if it actually causes your bike to run lean (which it would do even stock) then get a modified sensor or flash the ecu and change the perimeters if it is possible...

    • @exothermal.sprocket

    Hey bro I wouldn’t be upset about it unless you’re thinking of taking it on a track. I think that you’re modifications on the bike is a good thing. Only suggestion. If you upgrade the exhaust system you have to update the intake system. Reason being it’s dealing with how the motorcycle breaths. If you only do one side you need to do the other for optimum breathing.

I'm sure it can be improved and I think you're right they're going to be pretty conservative with their maps.

    I've heard from other UA-cam channels that exhausts also have a break in period. Both sound and exhaust flow will slightly change after a while. Have you noticed that after this video was published? (This may be just rumors, and the exhaust system may never change at all)

      If I'm honest...I think the sound is a bit different over time but not significantly..a little more raspy I think. As for the flow, yes I think its quite a bit different after 12-16 months...I"m not sure though and I likely wont throw it on the dyno again. I'll keep you posted though if I make any changes or if I feel its a lot different. I will be doing a 2000+ review soon so keep an eye out for that.

    Great video! Don't get hung up on the numbers. Its just too easy for tuning shops to skew the before and after results to make their work appear more effective than it really is.
    Your dyno guy did not have a vested interest in the results as he did not do the mods. So it is what it is. It would have been good to get an AFR curve though. :-(
    Any improvement by buying a named system should be disregarded IMHO. A bad pipe causes poor fuelling, flat spots and peaks and troughs in the curve. If the BW exhaust was junk then your dyno curves would not be as smooth as they are.
    You may well get more power with more miles but so what? You have achieved your objectives of nice sound, smoothness and rideability. Good job!

  • @dylankerr4511
    @dylankerr4511 5 років тому +1

    5 hp, great sound, improved ride-ability, 20 lbs weight reduction. Sounds like you're winning across the board. You never really get big numbers on a bike. Honestly, you will probably pick up more speed from the weight loss than the power. You should never install an exhaust system expecting power gains. Sometimes you even lose some. You install an exhaust because you like the look and the sound. I think yours is a winner, especially at the price.
    When I got my 2011 5.0L Mustang, I installed a cat-back exhaust, air filter and had it tuned. I picked up 11 hp peak. That's like a 2.7% increase. But the throttle response is better and the sound makes me happy, so it;s about $1500 well spent.
    I think you did really well, all things considered, and as long as you smile every time you twist the throttle, you've won.

    • @StormtrooperRides
      @StormtrooperRides  5 років тому +1

      Thanks Dylan I think that seems to be the consensus for the most part. Though I've had some folks tell me I should be getting more HP from the ECU flash but I've never really been after more power (well in theory it would have been nice for bragging rights) because the Ninja 1000 has plenty of power out of the crate! As you said, I smile every time I twist the throttle so a win is a win! I did gain HP and Torque so what do I have to complain about?!? Thank you for the comment and I appreciate your feedback! Take care!

    Hi. What brand of block plates did you use?

    • @StormtrooperRides
      @StormtrooperRides  6 років тому +2

      I have not used block off plates in this project, I simply plugged the hole from the airbox to the PAIR system. It is my understanding that this has the exact same effect. I will probably do that at some point but taking the airbox off and adding resistors right now isn't going to happen. Perhaps over the winter I may take that project on and I will document it. Thank you Alvin for stopping by and for the question.

    Did you face any issues in electronics by blocking off the pair Valve ?
    Alternatively, is ECU flashing compulsory for using Block off plates ?

    • @StormtrooperRides
      @StormtrooperRides  5 років тому +1

      No Turbo I didn't have any electronics issues due to the ECU flash as all of the codes they would normally throw were overridden by the flash. I'm not sure if you MUST flash the ECU before block off plates but I'm guessing you'd want to. Since you're directly messing with the emissions systems I think you'd likely face errors/codes when doing that but i'm not 100% positive. Hopefully another of my subscribers will be able to assist with this question?

      Sorry I guess I confused you, Actually I have a Ninja 1000 (2018), fitted with Akrapovic Headers, MP4 Exhausts and BMC air filter, I am quite satisfied with the performance and weight loss, however occasional pop ups bother me a bit, to eliminate the same, I got block off plates, however I read somewhere that new models (2018) does not support block off plates and cause error in electronics, hence it is compulsory to flash ECU, I just wanted to confirm the same.
      Thanks a ton for your extremely informative videos :)

    • @StormtrooperRides
      @StormtrooperRides  5 років тому +1

      Oh I apologize for the confusion. I cannot answer that but I would "guess" that with the Euro 4 compliance all these bike manufacturers are having to deal with I can easily see them not wanting you to mess with the emissions systems. To me it sounds logical that if you mess with it you'd have to flash the ECU to insure you dont get error codes. Thanks for the clarification! (i'm old and confuse easily haha)

    TBH, most manufacturers lie about numbers. They say 140 at cranck, but it's more like 129 at cranck. That translates to about 120 at the rear wheel. Some companies are honest, like Triumph, with the Street Triple. My previous bike was a ST 765 R. And the dyno read 120 at the rear wheel, but it was listed on paper as 118.

    This is what I think. You should have just gotten the V&H exhaust to save a few bucks. Then the ECU flash, and nothing else. Getting a Dyno test just proves your results, when the ECU flash should already have proven results. Ivan did my bike, and the gains are very noticeable, not just in the hp/torque category but in engine smoothness, and overall feel. Looking at HP/Torque gains doesn't really prove anything because that's just numbers, it doesn't show the gears in which gains are most noticeable(2,3,4). Anyway...its still a fast bike before any modding, so nothing to worry about there.

  • @keithulhul7540
    @keithulhul7540 5 років тому +1

    You're issue comes from the ECU flash. You sent the chip to a company not in your current climate so they're environment doesn't reflect yours. Especially since humid climate doesn't suit engines because the air is dissipated.
    Also you need to install block of plates in the intake once you can't the filter as it let's more air in and throws off the tune numbers.
    You'd benefit more from a local place flashing your ECU since they can tune your engine better.

    I would be 100% upset. Nel did zero tuning on your ecu flash. The bike Should be at 135 hp at the VERY least with your mods. Check out Ivans Performance to verify. The 2018 should make the same as the 2016+. I have a 2015 and have gon thrue the entire bike as far as mods go and it has picked up way more then a few HP. I am tuning myself and verify my work with a module made by dragy. I have gained over a second on my 60-130mph pulls since I have started my tuning. I have gained 5mph in the 1/4 with just a full 4-2-1 akra system. That is more then 10whp. Although I never dynoed mine, street data is worth 1000 words. I would suggest maybe getting a longer pipe that black widow offers and getting someone local who knows how to tune kawasaki's to tune yours on a dyno or street. There should be a good bit of power found in tuning STP's, fuel, ignition, and other things that woolich offers.

    • @StormtrooperRides
      @StormtrooperRides  5 років тому +1

      Yeah Proto I think I agree with you in that I dont think the ECU flash did much other than turn off my emissions controls. I dont think there was any tune in that flash. Perhaps in the future they will have some additional tuning in the flash and I can resend it in for that since they're free. I may talk with them over the winter and see about doing that. I do actually have a longer silencer from Black Widow but I dont like the sound as much and I will do a video on that in the future. I have also reached out to Akra to see about testing their pipes but I dont think they're very interested in that on my little channel...but hey its worth a shot. I'm not opposed to continuing to throw the bike on the dyno but if I'm ever to get the bike fully dyno tuned I'm probably going to have to haul it somewhere out of state as I just dont have a good feel for the shops in my area. I do appreciate the feedback though and I'll keep you all posted on what I do in terms of performance over the coming year. Thank you for stopping by and for your advice!!

      I think there is quite a bit of debate on that and its possible you are correct. The truth of the matter though is that had I gone to Akra, I could not have afforded to do the rest of the mods. I did see an increase in HP over stock so I really can't criticize Black Widow in this case, they sold me pipes that fit perfectly and sound wonderful at a very affordable price. I do think you are correct but in this case what I paid for offered me a nominal increase in power and less than half the cost so I think I'm satisfied at this point. Thank you for your comment and for stopping by and joining the discussion. All good points.

  • @steves3261
    @steves3261 4 роки тому

    Take a look at your dyno charts... definite problem there. If you look at the blue run, it shows more HP, but at the same rpm it shows less torque. that's not how it works. HP is a mathematical derivative of torque... the more torque at a given rpm, the more HP. This isn't an issue with the bike, it's a dyno issue.

    There is something odd with those dyno curves. POWER = TORQUE x REVS. If tuning achieves an increase in torque at any given engine speed then the power output will increase proportionally at the same engine speed and vice versa. Your 'tuned' curves show an increase in power with a drop in torque. Unless someone re-wrote the laws of physics while I was sleeping that is IMPOSSIBLE. Just sayin'.

  • @hossesarse
    @hossesarse 4 роки тому +1

    No additional horsepower? Ah well, at least now your bike pollutes more, gets worse mileage and will most likely have some premature problem or other caused by carbon build-up, or an over-rich condition.
    When a friend and I were out comparison-testing our Kawasakis in the desert (mine was the stock control-group), we were visited by an old-timer who said, "We spent many thousands of laps and many thousands of dollars trying to figure out how to get around a track faster than each other, and one thing we all learned is that Mr. Kawasaki knows a lot more about making an engine fast than Mr. K & Mr. N do."
    Kudos at least for being honest about it. Most people refuse to accept that their bike isn't substantially stronger after ruining it with an aftermarket pipe, richer jetting, worse fuel economy, dirtier exhaust, etc.

  • @YT1344
    @YT1344 5 років тому

    I think "bike runs lean after exhaust and filter upgrade" is a myth! New cars/bikes continuously tune themselves using that oxygen sensor to read from exhaust gas. So any changes in intake or outtake will eventually end up to the optimum factory set mixture! So I'd say, fuel controllers only mess up bike tunes! ECU flash does change bike behaviour but not really needed. No one can find a magic tuning map since each bike is in different climate and altitude! The only thing that somehow makes sense is changing ECU map with little more gas in the mixture (running little rich) and keep using oxygen sensor.
    Since bike needs to adjust itself in all the RPMs and all the throttle positions, it may take a LONG time for the bike to fully tune itself after putting a new exhaust! So dyno right after installing a new exhaust (before letting ECU to tune itself) is none-sense and misleading. At least that's what I have experienced. For my bike, it took like 700 miles for that strong gas smell in exhaust to go away and bike get good mileage (significantly better than stock muffler!). I never dyno-ed my bike. But better mileage on the same engine has only and only one meaning and its running more efficiently.

    • @Sunedosa
      @Sunedosa 5 років тому +1

      Nick here again on my main acc. Also been riding most of my life. The N1K is just over $700/yr here for me with Kawasakis own branded insurance.
      Most insurance companies here doesn't really want to touch the highest bracket here, where bikes like the ZX-10R ZX-14 H2 H2SX from kawasaki are along with any other liter sportbike from the rest of the manufacturers (kawasaki's own brand won't even insure any of their top tier sports/sports tourers.)
      Thats because of the overrepresentation in terms of crashes, repairs etc. Since the highspeed crashes are much more common with sportsbikes the costs add up for medical aswell. Some will cover you but for completly ridiculous premiums. The last sportsbike i had was a Daytona 675 i bought new 2013, at the time i ordered it Triumph had a partner that offered full coverage at a discounted premium of $1500 /yr wich the agent pre-sold me.
      But before the bike arrived their collaboration had ended and Triumph could no longer offer their own branded discounted insurance. So i called the agent and he said that he could maybe swing something, he started calculating and i could hear a surprised "oh" , i asked him why and he said that the premium was bit higher than he expected. Naturally i asked him how high and i honestly thought he was joking when he said : $9100 /yr.... basicly a BIG middle finger to all sportsbike owners. I was in my 40's, had a spotless record, lived in the city. I ended up paying $1800 from another insurance vendor.
      I'm fine with the N1K/SX being slower/heavier because there's no way around the running costs here, even a ZX6R costs twice as much as the N1K /yr. Sorry about the novel lol.

    Well as far as I can see, it would have been better for you to have bought the Akrapovic system which would have given you an extra 10.9 bhp without doing any other modifications. I guess that's what you're paying for, the development of the system. Black Widow don't appear to do any dyno testing, they're a British company but up until recently they were manufacturing out of China, although they now say they manufacture in the UK but how they continue to sell at this price point is beyond me, which makes me suspect they are still made in China. Nothing wrong with stuff made in China of course, let's face it most things are. You achieved your objectives though and it still came in less than an Akrapovic system.

      Eh if you go to Akrapovic's quoted gains their quoting the 2017 Ninja 1000 at 127hp and 77ft-lbs as a stock baseline....I really doubt a different name on the same steel 4-1 style of system is going to have a 5-6hp difference...I really think the flash wasn't as effective as it was intended to be...
      the old bikes 2011-2014 with Ivan's performance tune gained 20hp at the rear wheel from 126hp, 77ft-lbs stock to 146hp, 85ft-lbs with the flash and full system...just gotta see if Ivan will make a flash for this latest model

    • @StormtrooperRides

      Thanks Big T for the comment. I dont totally disagree but here is where I do. Getting additional HP was not my main objective but that said, I do agree that I probably would have gained HP had I gone with the Akra. The problem was that just buying the pipes would have cost me more than this entire project. I still would have wanted to get the Dyno runs, added the filter and gotten the ECU flashed. That would have pushed my cost to nearly $2K and that just wouldn't have made it past my miser wife :) I do agree with you about Black Widow, its hard to understand that they are so much less expensive than virtually everyone. I'm guessing there is compromise in the engineering but still I did make gains so it couldn't have been that bad, just not as well engineered as Akra right? At less than 50% of the cost of the Akra I can give up the 6HP...at least for now. It meed my needs in every other way. Thank you for the discussion points though and let me know if you can see my point. Thanks!
