"It all goes back to marketing. Something that Nintendo has excelled at for decades." Too bad that is no longer true. The Wii U is a great machine, but marketing is one of the primary reasons it is failing in the market at this time. Hopefully that changes before its too late...
***** rumors are they have been devolping a new console. several nintendo people have confirmed this. but is it true? we will have to wait until e3 then. EDIT: WRONG WRONG WRONG! wii u is gonna stay!
I prefer the GameCube over the Wii. GameCube is awesome. You can play an entire library of Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance games on your GameCube by using the Game Boy Player accessory. I never owned a Wii, but it sure looks cool because it is backwards compatible with GameCube game discs, GameCube controllers and GameCube memory cards.
I remember that i just bought the gamecube along with the gameboyplayer just to play gb,gbc and gba games on it,it was not untill 5 years later that i bought a few gamecube games for it.
I love Nintendo Wii. It is a pretty fun console & it has great games. At first I was very confused of the Wii Mote + Nunchuck controller & the use of motion to play the games, but after awhile I learned to use it well & enjoy the games. I got my Wii in very cheap price, so it was a good deal to buy it. Only sad thing in Wii is the difficulty of finding good games today. Most of the Nintendo's games are still very expensive & I don't want to spend lot's of money on the game, that I'm not completely sure if it's my kind of game. Also it's pretty rare to find games that are really awesome since they get sold very fast. Nintendo Wii is awesome console & I am happy to have it on my huge game collection. Too bad I bought it pretty late.
I can pretty much shoot down most wii accusations made by 360 and ps3 fanboys motion controls sucks: Buy a classic controller, but some games benefit from motion controls, you are not forced to use the motion though the graphics suck: No they dont, the good games on it look good, the only problem was it couldnt handle games like gta 4 and assassins creed but I think some titles made up for that its kiddie: Monster hunter 3,metroid prime 3,no more heroes 2,madworld,zelda twlight princess, zelda skyward sword, manhunt, goldeneye, red steel 2, xenoblade chronicles, resident evil 4, online sucks: I remember playing cod black ops, smash bros and mario kart just fine online, true friend codes were a pain but really its not such a big deal as long as online multiplayer works call of duty rules!: And wii has it with better controls, since you can actually point like an actual gun the aiming is perfectly accurate, those analog sticks cant be comfortable for aiming wii titles can never hold up to uncharted and heavy rain: Heavy rain isnt a real game sorry, I like the story but it should not count as an actual game, as for uncharted I love that franchise but: Super mario galaxy and xenoblade chronicles are both equally as amazing for many people
***** Butthurt alert And you are one of the groups of people that ruin the gaming community, if enjoying multiple systems and defending one from hate from ignorant people means fanboy to you then you aren't very smart. Reply if you are butthurt.
Campos Jesus It has modern warfare. Many games support 720p with component cables. Everyone i know who has a wii plays call of duty. there are your answers.
It's a great console, I love the backwards compatibility. I was able to let my GameCube be a back up console and save some space. The Wii looks nice stacked on my Wii U.
I feel like today the Wii is very underrated. I can't believe this console was hyped back in the day and was THE console to own. There are a lot of great games to play on this console especially with its backwards compatibility.

Its hard to find a multiplayer game on the ps3 in which you can use splitscreen instead of online bullass. Seriously, why did sony/microsoft even bother to allow more than one controller? there are no games that use splitscreen or anything like that! The wii does have that, and i'd rather sit next to my opponent than talking to him/her through a fucking headset.
Actally there is a lot from figthing games to racing games but the best sony titles are all single player with online capabilities even uncharted has split screen man

I don't know how functional your WiiNES (yes. it would be pronounced 'wee-ness') Advantage control combo would be ultimately. I think more than anything, since the 2 are roughly the same size, it might be better for OCD storage. So... if you like grouping similar sized items together, I have a great combo for you. The Wii/book. The book specifically of course would be the "Necronomicon" Just imagine the hours of fun for the whole family when you combine motion controls AND evil demons and spirits. And I say that, because it's got both the WiFi receiver and the GameCube compatibility. Where as the Family Edition gets rid of the GameCube compatibility and then the Mini gets rid of the WiFi receiver.

10 days prior to the nintendo servers' takedown, users created a similar service that allows players to play online games, with a few limitations. Please, google "wimmfi", and you'll find out.
Comparing the Wii to the NES? The NES set a standard and solidified Nintendo as THE gaming powerhouse. The wii does neither. Now the wii U is out, and Nintendo would be lucky enough just to make sure that people even know it's out.
Tell me then, why once the Wii came out both Playstation AND Xbox decided to come out with their own version of the motion control that the Wii already had since its birth... Face it, Nintendo always has been and always will be the most inovative company there is. Sony and Microsoft can only dream of going the places that Nintendo explores.
I have owned Wii for couple of months now & I'm very happy to have it. I have a nice collection of games & after learning to play with Wiimote & Nunchuck I really started to enjoy playing with Wii. As an PS2 fan I really didn't care for today's consoles at first & even though that it would be pointless to buy Wii, PS3 or XBox360. I was too harsh for them & I'm very happy to learn that newest gaming is still OK.
I have owned a 360 and a ps3 in the past three years and only this year i was givven a wii from a friend who never uses it anymore and i goota tell you its the most fun i have had with video games these past years. Only exception being the DS. The games available in the nintendo consoles are everything you can ask from video games. Pure fun
I just got a Wii and for a hardcore gamer the Wii is a great "side kick system" with only a Wii it can get boring but with a xbox/ps3 its a nice change of pace mainly the 1st party games you can get it for under 100 bucks too.
I still play 2 Video game consoles From 2006 & 2005 & I still Play Nintendo Wii & Xbox 360 game console & Nintendo Wii I still play games on it & I played Wii sports & Mario kart Wii & Super Smash Brawl & New super Mario bros Wii & donkey Kong Country returns & Sonic riders zero gravity & Sonic colors & Nights journey of dreams & Animal crossing City folk & Donkey Kong barrel blast & punch out & Wii sports resort & Wii Play & Wii fit plus & call of duty black ops & cabela’s dangerous hunts 2011 & NASCAR kart racing & Super Mario galaxy 2 & rock band 3 & just dance 4 & cabela’s Africa adventures & Monster hunter tri & Super paper Mario & lego Star Wars complete saga & Lego Indiana jones the original adventures & Lego Batman the video game & Lego Batman 2 Dc super heroes & Nintendo Wii this one Has backwards compatible Nintendo GameCube games
Backwards compatibility is great as it saves space (don't need to have multiple systems plugged into my TV), for those who get a system early on in its lifecycle and who don't own the previous console (when there are but a handful of good games for the system) and for those interested in seeing how games were during previous generations (own a PS3 and want to check out Arc the Lad? You can, without being forced to buy another system, just buy the game from wherever you buy used/old/retro games)
the wii U is wonderfully creative and a ton of fun, as well as remarkably convenient. the 1 major negative would have to be the price, but even that is arguable. the library of games this early into its life is quite nice, and every technical aspect works flawlessly.
I had the same problem with my Wii when I originally tried to connect it to my WiFi network, but After a bit of experimentation, came up with a solution. Since the Wii uses the 2.4 GHz band for its wireless, it seems that it can have difficulty connecting to at least some of the 11 channels available to those devices. Most routers usually have the frequency channel selection set to "Auto", so just start at ch. 1 and test your Wii's connection until your Wii can connect to your network...
Picked up a Wii for $250 almost six years ago now, and I've never once regretted the purchase. Between Wii games, GameCube games (I skipped the GCN in favor of the PS2), and Virtual Console games, I still haven't played all the worthwhile games available on the system. I've since picked up a PS3 as well, but my Wii still gets used. Anyone who tells you that the Wii only has games for kids is full of it.
I know this review is a few years old, but I have to let you know if you don't already- people out there make NES to GameCube controller adapters for the virtual console stuff! I have one but I don't have the NES advantage anymore, but it theoretically should actually work! Get a couple and have fun!
I still use my wii for playing wii sports/ wii fit. (I love both of the titles) As well as some gamecube games (Still have my gamecube) and lego star wars games. Brilliant console to this day. Oh yeah, and I watch youtube on it, too.
I think they might have gotten the idea for the Wii U's controller from this video. Good job CGR! And thanks for convincing me to buy Monster Hunter Tri, that game's alot of fun.
I would suggest that you check ALL of your wireless devices before settling on a specific channel, because while your Wii might connect, you might be orphaning another WiFi device in your home. Also, if you have a 2.4 GHz cordless phone, ditch it for a phone that works on another frequency, since ALL 2.4 GHz devices have to share te same 11 channels. If all else fails, there's also the Wii Ethernet adapter, which probably wasn't available when Mark did this review.
The Wii is a great system, the only bad thing about it is the stupid Sensor Bar that falls down too easily, and though I would've preferred the console to come standard with a Classic Controller Pro and have games designed to that controller, the WiiMote and Nunchuck are okay
when i think of nintendo, i think of how sturdy the new ones are, my ds and wii have both been through a volcano and back, and both work beutifly. i dropped my ds while playing a game from 4 feet on concrete and was able to pick it up and keep playing my same session.
Story Time: Back in 2009 when I was about 9 or 10 years old I was getting into Nintendo after I got my DS the prior Christmas which my first Nintendo system, at some point I was looking at youtube videos on DS games I was interested in and I believe I stumbled upon Clasic Game Room's review of a DS Ben 10 game (I was also a Ben 10 fan at the time) and then this video was recommended to me. Now at time time I wasn't really aware of game consoles older than the PS1 (I had a few PS1 games that I played on my PS2 growing up) and I had just gotten New Super Mario Bros DS which was my first Mario game and I thought the 2D sidescroller format totally original game concept Nintendo made for that game specifically... So when I watched this video and he shows NES and talk about it I was like "What the hell is that?" I did some research and found out about the original Super Mario Bros and it completely blew my mind that Nintendo was making Mario platfomers similar to the one I played on DS back in the 80s. The more research I did about the NES the more fasinated I became about it, I found out about other retro Nintendo systems along with SEGA and Atari but I always found the NES the most interesting something about it being the origin of most of Nintendo's franchises like Mario. Eventually I told my parents about it and begged them to get me one on trademe (New Zealand's version of eBay) since I knew it would probably be cheap compared to modern consoles and they refused saying the games were so old I would probably get bored with them quickly... Well then a few months go buy and we travel to visit my extended family and when we went to my uncle's house he had an NES with a bunch of games from his childhood hooked up to a CRT TV and I played it pretty much that whole time we were over there, only stopping to talk to my uncle about it and ask about when and how he got it back when it was released. Yet even seeing this my parents still wern't convined I actually wanted an NES as much I said I did... Eventually I discovered emulation which is a whole other story, and the rest was history in terms of my interest in retro gaming. But yeah, I have Classic Game Room to thank for making me aware of the NES and by extension all retro gaming before the PS1 EDIT: Now that I think about it I don't think I knew about the Wii's GameCube support until I saw this video either as I had only played the Wii at friends' houses, that was pretty mind-blowing as well for 10 year old me
Its a really good looking console, and in my opinion the game cube library was excelent, matter of fact, i think the game cube is probably one of the most underrated consoles of history, perhaps even more underrated than the dreamcast, i bet there are a lot 16 bit emulators for the wii as well, and that would make it right now a very interesting box to have in any living room...
@niteflash06 You have some good options actually. You can go to gamestop and buy an used wii for about $79. It comes with all of its components and the games cost you from 10-20 dollars if you aren't looking for a new release. Wii U isn't going to come out until the end of the year so I don't know what to tell you about that. You could wait it out I suppose, but at least you'll be spending less on a bundle of games and a wii than a couple of xbox or ps3 games combined.
I have that, it is pretty fun though the handling is a little floaty. Excite Truck is more of a kart racer, I normally stick to arcade racers like Burnout and sometimes Need For Speed (depends which one). I recently got a wii game CGR recommended: Monster Jam Path of Destruction. That game rocks! Now I just need to find a copy of Sky Crawlers.
you can judge it based on the games that were announced for it , for instance sony already showed a new killzone , infamous second son , the order 1886 , and other , what xbox one showed ? well they showed dead rising 3 and some other games which are no were close to ps4 exclusives
I'm younger than you and I'm old-school. I don't care if people say to me, "You still play Sonic and Mario?!" Again, old-school and proud to admit it! :)
This is why I like the wii. The millennium falcon was the best ship in star wars XD. But still I like playing the games and the retro games on the online store my cousin gave me an old system of his and a game from like the 80's called adventure island. I bought it on the online store and it reminded me of when my cousin gave it to me back in 2001 I know that's pretty recent but I was only little
Theoretically, you're able to connect a USB NES controller to the back of the Wii via those USB ports on the back and play NES games with Virtual Console, right?
@LOLz261 I was able to actually start getting pretty well-defined triceps with Wii Fit. and no games? How about Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom, Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, RE4 Wii Edition, the entire Metroid Prime Trilogy, Metroid: Other M (not-so-stellar story, but AMAZING gameplay), Punch-Out!!, WarioWare: Smooth Moves, No More Heroes 1&2, Zack and Wiki, MadWorld, Monster Hunter Tri. Need I keep going?
This console blew my mind as a kid. It was a gift from my grandparents and I always cherish and kept it since I got it as a reminder of them.
Super Mario Galaxy.
The first time i put that on as a 5 year old, man i swear to god i instantly got hooked to it because it was just so amazing.
mmhmm
Mmmm I don't know what to say about that sorry

the wii sold more than ps3 and xbox360 combined
locutus94 finally someone with common sense I still own the Famicom the SNES and the wii
devon morris true but it was the common mans console and I know many people who brought it for their kids as a virtual bowling device or party machine
Sean Thompson I still have all of my Nintendo consoles too. They're all still so much fun to play.
Pure fun
We all need MORE CGR… EDF EDF EDf
NES is more like great great grandfather, the original backwards compatible wii is a good value but there should have been a starfox...
I think the Wii will be another good ol' classic console years from now. Glad I have one!
Love the star wars analogies! :D
the controller was so cool it fit perfectly in my (then) childhood hands
Nintendo Wii plug and play, brilliant.
NES Advantage duct taped to a Wii. 4 years later, the Wii U controller is introduced. Coincidence?
Wii, or as I like to call it: The Shovelware Machine.
I will definitely give both games a playthrough on my next trip to the store. Red steel 2 was already on my list though lol. Thanks. :)
Can’t believe I stumbled upon this throwback
The Wii is a great system, the only bad thing about it is the stupid Sensor Bar that falls down too easily, and though I would've preferred the console to come standard with a Classic Controller Pro and have games designed to that controller, the WiiMote and Nunchuck are okay
I like your new controller wii system.
when i think of nintendo, i think of how sturdy the new ones are, my ds and wii have both been through a volcano and back, and both work beutifly. i dropped my ds while playing a game from 4 feet on concrete and was able to pick it up and keep playing my same session.
But yeah, I have Classic Game Room to thank for making me aware of the NES and by extension all retro gaming before the PS1
EDIT: Now that I think about it I don't think I knew about the Wii's GameCube support until I saw this video either as I had only played the Wii at friends' houses, that was pretty mind-blowing as well for 10 year old me
Wii is now turning into retro console I wish to have it along Xbox one
Its a really good looking console, and in my opinion the game cube library was excelent, matter of fact, i think the game cube is probably one of the most underrated consoles of history, perhaps even more underrated than the dreamcast, i bet there are a lot 16 bit emulators for the wii as well, and that would make it right now a very interesting box to have in any living room...
I do like how on some Wii games you can use the Gamecube controller as well.
You should check out the homebrew for the console.
The main reason I clicked on this was because I saw an NES Advantage being duct-taped to the Wii. I wasn't disappointed.
we need more people like you
the force is strong with this console
(Continued) And actually APPRECIATE what these companies have done!
Welcome to the club, friend!
you the best dude, I will watch you forever ^_^
I have that, it is pretty fun though the handling is a little floaty. Excite Truck is more of a kart racer, I normally stick to arcade racers like Burnout and sometimes Need For Speed (depends which one).
I recently got a wii game CGR recommended: Monster Jam Path of Destruction. That game rocks!
Now I just need to find a copy of Sky Crawlers.
I mean what I love about the Wii is that there is no Red Ring of death and there is backwards compatibility.
Haha, great review. Loved it, helped out a lot and I laughed a lot, too. xD
i thought the gamecube was awesome. but i guess everyone has different opinions, your videos are still awesome and fun ^^
I had a Wii it was lots of fun. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
you can judge it based on the games that were announced for it , for instance sony already showed a new killzone , infamous second son , the order 1886 , and other , what xbox one showed ? well they showed dead rising 3 and some other games which are no were close to ps4 exclusives
no,its not a problem with you not having enough, its the disc on a game thats not bluray cannot hold as much as a blu ray
I wish that they had a plug where you could connect a cartridge base into the USB ports from the back so you could plug in any N64 game.
I bought it on the online store and it reminded me of when my cousin gave it to me back in 2001 I know that's pretty recent but I was only little
Ever heard of the Power Pad? Came out as a Accessory For the NES. Came out 1980-1990's.
I said if you don't have a console.
Oh yeah and your the greatest person ever to go on earth
I wish when you turn on the Wii the blue neon that comes on when you put a disc in stays on, why? because it would look cool..
The newer Wii (Black, Blue, Red, etc.) doesn't have backwards compatibility here in the United States, you know?
