It’s funny how every year they release it on the Wii like that’s the only game keeping the Wii alive but sadly it’s said that just dance 2020 is the last game on the Wii. 😔
One important thing about the Wii 2 HDMI dongle is that it doesn't magically put out crisp 1080p, it taps into the 480p signal that your Wii outputs and then just upscales it to 1080p. If you get one, don't expect your Wii to suddenly look super amazing, it's mostly a convenience device so you could use 1 HDMI cable instead of having a small rat's nest of cables for component to your TV.
I'd suggest avoiding the Wii 2 HDMI full stop. they're cheap, but so hit and miss. I've had two - both were garbage that output so much video noise they were effectively unusable. If you can, grab a Nyko component cable and a decent converter box. It's worth it for better picture quality.
Jack Deviant its better tbh. It made my games everyone look non pixely and smoother and the hdmi wonder like my ps4 gives. Its noticeable very noticeable
@@hdestotallyunoriginalgamin3555 You got the one that upscales. Those tend to draw way more power and can cause a fire. The competent adapters leave the resolution at 480p while offering better color and smoother edge reproduction. The most important aspect is modern digital TV's like the digital signal better reducing or completely eliminating blink issues and offers the best response time. These adapters still draw about 2 watts of power on standby so it is better to unplug the power after use. Definitely better then component.
I remember my wii. Got it in Christmas 2009, it was my first real game console. Motion controls may have been a little gimmicky but I thought it was AWESOME. It will always be remembered in gaming history
N X can someone tell me why Xenoblade Chronicles is rare? I can not find this game anywhere in stores. Why is this game rare? I really want to play it.
It's kinda sad that the Wii is considered "Retro" now. I've have had this console since I was little and stile play it to this day! I even remember the little version of myself taking it out of the box! I was so excited!

Resident Evil 4 for Wii is one of the most fun to play games I've ever played. The wii motion + nunchuk combo adds the light-gun component to the Re4 experience. It' s like playing a 3D light gun game, it's awesome!
There is also a way to play the Wii without the sensor bar. It emits a infrared signal that the controllers detect. So if you use two candles instead of a connected sensorbar the wii controllers will also work very well! :)
by the way, thank you for your hidden gems vids. I LOVE 3D Dot heroes (although it is a zelda rip off, haha) if you wanna game u might not know about, maybe try a ps3 game called "dungeon defenders". i think it will be right up your alley.
I got one brand new for $20 (Nintendo Selects) The original release without the Nintendo Select branding is really expensive though, them collectors mentality jack the price up again.
A few reasons to pick up a Wii (or dust off the one you probably still have lying around): 1 - One of the best 1st party offerings in Nintendo's history (only beaten by the Super Nintendo and the Game Boy Advance in my opinion) 2 - Loads of hidden gems: I won't discuss whether or not they're hard to find or how much they cost, but they exist, and they're REALLY good. 3 - Virtual Console: Any console that can play SNES, Turbografx 16/CD, Genesis, NES and Neo Geo is undeniably a fantastic console 4 - Homebrew Channel: The Wii is perhaps the easiest console to hack and install fangames and homebrew programs on, including emulators which further expand your ability to play Retro Games on it! Pair that with the wide variety of available controllers and you can have an emulation experience similar to the one you can have on your PC, but in the comfort of your couch and looking at your TV with a controller in your hands. What more could you ask for?
+Ruko Michiharu i'll give u point #4 (well part of it, i def don't agree that the controller situation overall is a good one) as that is my main interest in getting this console...couldn't disagree with you more on points 1-3. i personally find the wii to have one of the weaker 1st party offerings, this system has the least amount of hidden gems compared to most systems i grew up with and/or owned IMHO, and while the virtual console is a neat idea on paper...the offerings PLUS price makes it one of the least attractive emulation options out there. some games they nailed perfectly while others are off. The selection is at times insulting. While i do have a gamecube, the wii's backwards compatibility and GC controller ports out the box and ease of modding are the only real arguments i would use to say this is a good way to emulate retro stuff. honestly its either this, an original xbox unlocked, or a raspberry pi that i am considering to fill that need on a crt set. I would have gone the xbox route most likely but my blind microsoft hate is preventing that.....
racerxgundam I wonder if we're even talking about the same system here... The Wii virtual console selection is simply SUPERB, the Wii U's virtual console selection is not as good though... I mean, I'll give the Wii U 32.768 points for having GBA in the VC, But GBA and SNES alone is NOT enough to beat being able to play SNES, TG16/CD AND Genesis on the same game system!! Not to mention Neo Geo! The Wii has SO many exclusive games that I highly approve and recommend, amongst them are: Castlevania Rebirth (The last good Castlevania game), Wario Land Shake it, Metroid Prime 3, Warioware Smooth Moves (probably the game with the highest dose of fun in this list), No more heroes 1 and 2, the absolute BEST version of Resident Evil 4 of all time ever bar none, Excite Bots Trick Racing (better than Mario Kart), Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom, Super Paper Mario, The Last Story, Silent Hill Shattered Memories (Awesome Grafx!), The best version of Cave Story... There are plenty more... PLENTY more... I just don't remember right now because I haven't played Wii games in quite a while since I've been using my Wii strictly as an emulation machine for the past few years... But don't worry, I've saved the best for last, the Wii has Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2! Those games are absolutely MAGICAL! The two are on my top 3 favourite games of all time in the history of ever (but neither of them is No. 1, No. 1 is Super Mario World) There isn't a single game I've played ever that can be compared to the feeling I got from playing Super Mario Galaxy, it blew my mind back in 2007, it still blows my mind today, it will probably never leave my top 3 as long as I live, I mean, even Soldier Blade and Magical Chase can't surpass the absolute wonder that is Super Mario Galaxy, heck, not even Zelda Ocarina of Time, a Link to the Past or even Mother 3 come close to that, and if those games can't, then I'm sure that no game ever will (unless Nintendo makes Super Mario Galaxy 3) Super Mario Galaxy was the sole reason why I bought a Wii, I NEEDED to experience it and I feel that it is the apogee of gaming as a medium, it's an absolute masterpiece, I can't sing enough praises towards it, I've called it better than some of the best Turbografx 16 games ever, that's how much I love it... But then again this is all my opinion and opinion is like an ass, each one has their own... Either way here are my closing thoughts: If you think the Wii's library is weak, particularly the 1st party library, then you probably haven't played enough of it, heck even I who love the Wii as my 4th favourite game system (and yes it is above the Genesis in my favourites list) haven't played all the good games on the system, I have a LOT that I have yet to play but just haven't got around to yet... Not to mention you're objectively wrong because Super Mario Galaxy ;3 Also, Any game system that can 'LEGALLY' play Sega Genesis, Turbografx 16, Super Nintendo AND Neo Geo in it, is objectively the Best Game System EVER! And the Wii is the ONLY game system that fits this description! AND ONE MORE THING, I see NO point in complaining about virtual console prices because the prices of the real cartridges were FAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRR more expensive back in the day, They could end up being WAY more expensive than an entire AAA game today plus its DLC and season passes! And that's not even adjusting for inflation!! So shut up with these stupid complaints, because you could be paying up $80+ for it back then when you're only paying $4~8 on the Wii, these prices are more than fair enough, heck, they're still cheaper than buying a cartridge from a reseller today! (Not like the Wii shop is open anymore, but I still get VC games on the 3DS, and give my money to the publishers to show them directly that there is demand for retro games) ONE MORE THING!! The Wii is a MUCH better emulation machine than the Xbox, the Wii pulls off Yoshi's Island at 60fps without breaking a sweat, the Xbox only does 45fps!
the main attractive thing with the xbox emulation and raspberry pi is the ease of which u can get any controller on it you want. You can even get PC-engine/tg16 OEM controllers if u have the pin layout and soldering skills. you can get any level hori/MAS/Happ fight stick on it as well. You only run into this controller issue with Nintendo honestly. Whats the point of having x shooter or x fighter when u cant get a decent pad/stick? With the wii ur essentially stuck with few options. Yeah the xbox might not emulate X game as well as a wii, but i'll def take that trade off for more varied controller compatibility and a lower cost on the resale market. Whats the cost difference? i can score an unlocked xbox PLUS say saturn converters for under 50 bucks. Whats the going rate on the wii? wii virtual library superb? some of the games have "quirks" to them....not every game is emulated equally. Some of the pc engine cd games are simply off. they couldnt be bothered to translate the menu of the original sin and punishment from the n64? i've seen some freebie software on the internet that emulate some of the games better than the VC versions. i still think i see petitions for some of the unreleased games. 10-yard fight on the nes...sure they got ur back. was the earthbound trilogy ever even released...not sure. sorta got tired waiting for fan favorite games to get released.....sorry i won't give nintendo a pass for some lazying coding just for the legality of it. Did they ever get screen filters? When i can honestly say i have seen better work done for free download on the net, it speaks volumes to the half assed approach Nintendo took. yeah price is an issue when you can get better results free. None of the games you mentioned that are "exclusive" are top tier in my book. Resident evil 4 might be better but its was released a full year if not more after its introduction. Motion controlled aiming isn't enough of an incentive for a Non-HD release of it. Sure some of the konami DL only stuff was cool...but i wouldnt exactly call them system movers either. TvsC might be a cool fighter on paper, but without adequate controllers (and no..the mid to low level hori themed TvsC stick aint cutting it) its sorta a moot point. i'm sure the mario galaxy games are great...but even throwing those in the mix i still find the first party offerings weak. of course its all opinions and such, but i'll take the first party line ups of nes, snes, n64, gamecube over the wii any day of the week.
racerxgundam Except you CAN get modded controllers for the Wii, and yes, they do work... You can get controllers for the Wii shaped like NES, SNES, Neo Geo and Genesis controllers (no Turbografx though sadly, but it's not like you can't make one if you have the soldering skills you just mentioned) And I honestly think the Wiimote sideways is a pretty good 2 button controller, and the Classic Controller Pro is a good enough controller for most games, only not for fighting games... Getting a game on the Virtual Console isn't as easy as uploading it to a server just because the fans want, they have to have the consent of whoever has the rights to release the games, and there's a lot of legal bullshit involved, it's amazing that they even got so many games on it, the Wii selection is still to this day much bigger than the Wii U and even the 3DS selections! COMBINED! Sure you can get "Better for free" on PC, but that's hardly legal, I mean, if you bought Turbografx 16 games on the Wii until before they died, then you've officially supported Hudson Soft, because it was Hudson that was putting out TG-16 games on the Wii for us to enjoy, re-introducing the system and its games to a new generation, it was thanks to the Wii that I got to know about the Turbografx 16, and it quickly became one of my favourite game systems ever (No. 3 to be exact) Now it's Konami that holds the rights to all the PC engine stuff, and they don't wanna release jacks*** in the west, and even if they did, I wouldn't support them considering how s*** they've become, so I just emulate TG16... And no, I have no idea how much the Wii costs nowadays, I bought mine years ago and I didn't keep up with the prices, but considering how common it is, considering it's the 5th most well-sold game system of all time, they must be giving it out pretty much for free at thrift shops with a load of games to boot... The thing is that the REALLY GOOD Wii games have held their prices somewhat, but you could get any throw-away Wii, hack it, get yourself a SNES controller for the Wii (it's all you'll need, the SNES controller is good enough for pretty much every 2D game ever) and turn it into an emulation machine for the living room, you don't even have to pay for the VC games anymore, and you can even make your own new VC games that run on the emulation code of pre-existing VC games! I play YS 4 on my Wii! I've played Popful Mail, Sega CD version, on my Wii! I've beaten Dragon's Curse and New Adventure Island for the first time on my Wii! And even if you think the Wii's library is s***, it's very, VERY easy to pirate Wii games, you can load a bunch of them into an external HDD, plug it in the back of your Wii and use USB loader GX to play them, simple as that, and you can use that to play the expensive stuff like Xenoblade Chronicles (which btw, is better than the New 3DS version) And Pandora's Tower (Which I had forgotten about, but It's pretty darn amazing) So you could just load a bunch of Wii games like that, and explore the library without wasting a penny, and I know the Wii's Library is filled to the brim with crap, just like that of any popular system, but if you look really hard below the crap, there are plenty of hidden gems, like I said, I can't remember that many because it's been a long time since I played them, and there are plenty others, like Little King's story, Mad World and Zack and Wiki, that I haven't played yet, but I hear plenty of great things about!
hmm ok i'll take ur word for it but i havent seen modded controllers and/or adapters myself. Back when i was more into the scene it was a HUGE issue to mod controllers for any nintendo machine post snes. You need a software mod PLUS a physical hack since NOA started using a weirdo proprietary port on their boards post-snes. JUST NOW (as in the last year or so) i am seeing a final version of a gamecube controller adapter for the n64. i haven't seen say ps2/xbox/saturn etc etc on nintendo hardware. i know of no companies/peeps that make that. You could get some fight sticks going on nintendo but it involves getting a freaking expensive custom board and its not an easy job at all. Its essentially a no go unless u have some SERIOUS skills. Price is pretty insane on that as well. This is one of the reasons why there isnt a real 2D competitive scene on nintendo (lack of fighters being the main reason obviously, but this contributes). If you have seen a wired snes controller going into the wii...my best guess is that its a cannibalized classic or pro controller. If your trying to tell me that some 3rd party, mass producing company made x controller that looks like an OEM first party pad/stick...then yeah....MANY people, not only myself, have ZERO interest in that, unless its a brand that holds some weight. Hori only offering two stock sticks for the system pretty much should tell you how the retro and competitive fighter community feels about the wii. "EASE" is what i am getting at. With xbox u could get any original controller up and running under 10 bucks with adapters no mods. If for the sake of argument your the biggest jaguar fangirl and u wanted that WEIRDO brick of a controller up and running on it, a diagram and material thats about 5 bucks in total and your all set. You technically can do this with every system not nintendo, its easy to do so with sony products as well..but its nowhere near as cheap as with the xbox for whatever reason. The legality and difficulty in acquiring rights to "x" game is NOT an excuse for lazy coding. Its not an excuse for lazy or no translations. its not an excuse for a lack of screen filters either. its not an excuse for wack pricing. its not an excuse for games to be non-transferable (they were when i last looked into it, if thats changed take that last comment off) Your naming all the games that everyone already knows about with the wii btw. There was a petition to get pandora's tower in NA. Again no hidden gems like on other systems. Thats the problem with the wii...at the end of the day, the games that people want for the system hovers in the 20s-30s. i'm on the real low end and my interest is honestly maybe 15 games if that. Thats the lowest i can think of for the commercially released stuff i have seen. Yeah truthfully, xbox for me is prolly less...maybe just limited to some of the bioware joints...but the costs, ease of modding, and controller adaptations are advantages. i guess we are just not going to see eye to eye on this one. to me personally, wii is one of the worst systems to own.
I've actually just started building my Wii collection, so this video hit at just the right time. Using the Best Buy Discount, I grabbed SMG2 for ~16 bucks. Well worth it, I think.
+Kacy DaGameNerd Yeah, MetalJesus was commenting that SMG2 was still pretty highly priced. 16 seemed ok to me for new. (Considering how much the Zelda Series, Punch-Out!, and Mario Kart are still going for on the Wii.) Apparently BB has SMG2 for 9.99 used, if you can find it in store.
+Joe Formanek Yeah SMG2 use to be over $30. But since they released it as a Nintendo Selects game, then it has an MRSP of $20. I use the Best Buy gamer club unlocked program too for the 20% off new games. Its fantastic for pre-orders
Pimpalicious1987 Yes, I was able to snag those as well. :) I, like a lot of people, have owned a Wii for some time but honestly haven't played it much. It's worked out pretty good as I have been pretty lucky picking up some decent titles for cheap.
When this console came out I was only 5 years old but seeing your video made me feel like I was a 20 year old back in 2006 hearing how amazing this machine is and how everyone was getting one you guys did an amazing job with this video.
the wii is the ultimate console, especially if you hack it.. you can play all retro, even arcade games.. gamecube and even all the wii titles.. all you need is a sd card and, if you want wii games, a usb thumb drive or ex hard drive.. there's a lot of GREAT wii titles and ports too... people that think the wii sucks have probably only played wii sports.
Not all retro games unfortunately :( N64 emulation (wii 64, not 64) is shit for most n64 titles and even the games that do work have glitches that ruin the experience (like the race camera screen being broken in mk64) plus there isn't alot of the non 1st party n64 library on the VC either (like rareware games that are ESSENTIAL to any worthwhile n64 collection) Never got psx/pscx to work & flawed emulation reported anyways :/ Also vbagx isn't a perfect emulator either. mother 3 stutters, and some 3d graphic games such as lego drome racers simply wont run :( I do love my hbrewed wii tho, nes emu flawless, same w/ snes in my experience- and with the classic controller, the experience is damn near identical to an actual snes. Highly recommended. 5 generations of games in one box is awesome!
Rest assured that during the recording of this video we were NOT under attack by German Luftwaffe. Nope... Kacy appears to live in the flight path of Boeing Field here in the pacific northwest :)
"Resident Evil Wii Edition is the 4th installment of Resident Evil 4. This is a port of the GameCube version and the PS2 version. But this is the better version, this has HD graphics..." WHAT!?!
I was at Walmart Christmas 2006, I witnessed a massive brawl breakout in the electronics department over the "EXCLUSIVE" Wii console. It was crazy, all at once some arguing started then BLAM, ALL HELL BROKE LOOSE! There were men, women, and children young and old throwing hay-makers! Probably at least 20-30 people involved. I even seen an employee in there swinging on fools. People getting tossed into shelves, throwing merchandise around, screaming, cussing, you name it. You had to be there to believe it....
Wow, so glad I found you two and this excellent channel! I'm just in the market for a wii fit system and knew absolutely nothing about Nintendo Wii. All I want is a fitness complete system, but apparently there is much more to it all. Great history of wii, now I don't feel so completely in the dark. Thank you... recommendation for a wii fitness system? I don't really care, nor have the time for all the general games. Thanks and thumbs UP all the way!
It's a year later so I would guess that you already made your decision, but the ultimate Wii Fitness system would be a Wii U with a copy of Wii Fit U. If you get the bundle, it comes with the balance board and a pedometer. Wii Fit U comes with all the programs from the previous 2 Wii Fit games with extra features. It's nowhere near as cheap as a Wii with Wii Fit and a balance board is, though.
Played the Wii as a youngin and sold it with all my stuff years ago Just bought one off my friend and already have 30 games and 4 complete controllers+classic controllers. *TOTAL COST THUS FAR* around $300 for everything what a time to be alive
NSMB, MARIO KART, GALAXY 1&2, Super Smash Bros Brawl, Mario Party 8&9(?), Punch-Out, Virtual Console, Sonic Colors, All Nintendo Games thats not Mario. These are most of the good titles.
Muramasa The Demon Blade, Excitetruck (yeah you mentioned Excitebots, but Truck is better to me), New Super Mario Bros Wii, and Super Smash Bros Brawl.
the converter is actually scaling the composite signal up to 720/1080p. it looks ok-ish but component has definitely better colors, sharpness and less noise. just my 2 cents, save the 5$ for the converter and get the component cable :)
I have a Nes, Snes, N64, Wii, Wii U, Nintendo Switch and handhelds I have are Gameboy, Gameboy Color, Gameboy Advance, and New Nintendo 2DS XL also have Nes Classic
DunkMan 11 NBA I have a N64, Wii, Nintendo Switch, Snes mini, PS1, PS2, PS3, Xbox 360, Xbox One, 3DS, And something less important would be my Atari Flashback 8 Gold.
I know this was a long time ago and idk if you and the Wii collector here still talk, but as someone who loves the wii, i would find it awesome if you did a newer buying guide with this guy. Sort of like how you did the updated ps2 and genesis buying guide videos.
really enjoyed this, i found you while looking for more game ideas for my wii. had it since 2007 and still going strong. My favourite games so far are mariokart , band hero, just dance and wii fit plus and sport but i will be checking out your hidden gems to see what I've missed .
I just bought the Wii last week because I missed the nostalgia and some Disney games I missed out playing from my last Wii years ago. Picking up some GameCube games for this Wii soon.
I got a Wii on launch. All the stores were soldout at midnight launch, so I slept outside a ShopKo until they opened in the morning. They only had 6 of them. Some fat lady tried to arrive early and cut the line, but she lined up at the wrong door, haha
No Fragile Dreams = Broken list. Plus, the Wii classic pro controller looks like a PS2 or 360 controller? I think the PS2 and 360 controllers look like SNES controllers.
2021 and I just bought a Wii about a month ago and I'm loving it. Why did I wait so long? I already have some of the games mentioned here, but you mentioned some I've never heard of and definitely need to check out. It's shame that the virtual console is no more because I know I would have loved it, but I knew that going in.
The only thing I hate about RE4 Wii edition is if you choose to use the classic of gamecube control it takes out the aim automatically shaking like the ps2 and gamecube did making it drastically easier
My WiiMote is something in-between the two kinds you guys showed. It has built-in WiiMotionPlus INSIDE but the sync button is also inside... Also it doesn't have a limited edition colour/theme.
I recently bought a Wii and here I am on your channel. Just like when I got my Xbox, GameCube, ps1. Thanks for the help sir enjoyed the games you have recommended that I have picked up myself.
Resident Evil 4 was easily my favorite game on the system. The game was originally designed in a stop and shoot control scheme which translates to motion controls really well.
The main reason why the original had a stand was because it was compatible with the GameCube and when it sat vertical the GameCube was on top. This allowed both areas accessible without having to move it. Love your videos. Keep making more.
Games I would have added on their would be New Super Mario Bros. Wii. Such a fun game to play with friends. Smash Bros. Brawl of course, Super Paper Mario isn't too bad, Wii Sports Resort is pretty good with the motion plus and finally The Last Story is another good one.
Finally bought a Wii last night, specifically to play GameCube progressive scan games through component cable. But it seems there are some really good ganes for the system I should get. First games I'll buy are Sin & Punishment, Trauma Center games and Tatsunoko VS Capcom.
I love the Wii. It has some of my favorite games. But I did order that Wii 2 HDMI, and it was just terrible. The colors were blown out, and faded. Seriously, the composite cables look better than this. I ended up going with component cables.
Thank you so much for this video! I just got offered to buy a Wii , complete with box like new and I was ready to turn it down. Mostly because I didn't know much about the Wii, like backwards compatibility with GameCube and the awesome games on it. So glad I watched this video! I'm forsure going to buy it now. I never thought I would own a Wii, just never interested me. I've been missing out! Thank you MJR and Wii Nerd!! lol. Best channel on YT!
EDIT: For anyone interested in how to do this, google "How to SoftMod a Wii to Play Backup Wii, Gamecube and Wiiware Games" If you buy a Wii my advice is to get a White Wii with connectors for Gamecube Controllers. Check around on Amazon or Ebay you can usually get good deals. Then if you ever feel like fooling with it you can use a USB Drive and an SD card to hack it, and play just about any Wii or Gamecube rom you want on it from your USB device. Additionally, you can play all of the classic SNES games on it, and there were a lot of great games on the SNES. WiiFlow is highly recommended because it be made child safe.
***** I have it set up so that they can play any game they want off a 500 GB HDD, and used parental settings in WiiFlow (which makes it easy to brows games with a graphical interface) to lock the homebrew channel so that it's only accessible through the priiloader menu. That way it's child safe, there's no risk of kids ever getting into the Mod Menu or missing anything up. It works for almost every gamecube, wii, and virtual console game flawlessly and for the VC any must have games can go on the SD card or the system menu.
It also runs SNES and SEGA genesis games, you can easily find the covers for it on GBAtemp forums. Unfortunately the GBA emulator lags and the Playstation Emulator has issues and doesn't work with most games, but for anything 32 bit era or below and anything on Gamecube, Wii, or VC it's an all in one setup. I even have about 150 GB of kid friendly Anime, awesome Cartoon series like The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack, and Disney Movies on there for them to watch..
1ex1uger Nope if you have a white Wii all you need is a compatible SD card and USB device and a little bit of patience. You can find tutorial videos on UA-cam and how to threads on GBAtemp forums. Just keep in mind a lot of old videos and tutorials are obsolete and can have you taking a lot of unnecessary steps, so it's best to look for more recent stuff. If you ever feel like you need to hit the reset button and start again from scratch, you can just reset the Wii from the normal options menu. The place to start is by googling LetterBomb which will help you set up your Homebrew Channel for the first time. And after you get that done google ModMii (it now has very easy to use installer, and provides you with easy to follow instructions as well). It'll take a little trial and error to set everything up just right. Basic stuff is easy so if all you want is to run an emulator from your homebrew channel and launch a few games, or use the GUI Launcher to launch isos, that will be easy. But if you're like me you'll want to customize it more once you get started. You may want to back up your NAND on a separate SD card and keep it in a drawer just to be safe (easy to follow instructions come with BootMii) but after that it's mostly just a matter of learning the apps and tools, which anyone with experience modding videogames can probably do pretty easily. If you know how to read and use google you can do it yourself no problem. If you're like me you'll want to get Wiiflow and set it up to be your main channel so that you can navigate it's GUI and launch everything from there, it's actually the most complicated thing you can set up because you have to select only the wads that are right for your Wii and also do some ini editing if you want to do things like disable the annoying rumble feature, but it's worth it believe me. The main thing is that you need a compatible HDD/Flash Drive and SD card. I highly recommend from experience a Seagate HDD with 500 GB or 1TB storage capacity that has no data encryption on it (Encryption will be advertised as a feature if it has it, so check). Sleep mode issues can be resolved with an easy fix by following instructions over on GBAtemp's wiki.
Quick tip if you don't have a sensor bar for the wii. The Wii remote works via infrared, so you can use two candles spaced apart in similar length to the sensor bar. The wii remote will sense infrared light from the candles and work. Might not work the best but it'll work in a jam.
Caseys vibe on camera is amazing! one of your best guests! Always wanted a proper PS vita vid frm you MJ much along these lines. Untill then please pass on my best to Casey cos he rocks!
Elebits on the wii is a really good game on the wii for only $3 I'm slowly realizing theresa's a lot of good wii games when i was little i was made fun of for owning one since i played mario while they played halo it made me hate the system but looking at it now its a much better console then i remembered especially since i got mine for only $7 at a thrift
I snagged an original model Wii for 30 bucks to play GameCube games. There's definitely some winners in the Wii library, but I wouldn't buy a Wii without having access to GameCube games. I only have like 4 Wii games and 20 GC games.
Tatsuonoko vs Capcom....what an amazing fighting game. I had a blast with that one. The Data East compilation is pretty amazing too...who doesn't love some Sly Spy or Bad Dudes!!!
If I wanted a Wii, it's going to be the very first Wii model which is backwards-compatible with GameCube games, GameCube controllers, GameCube Wavebird wireless controllers and GameCube memory cards. Buyers beware: the Family Edition Wii and the Wii Mini really suck. Those two models are failures because they lack GameCube compatibility.
That you, this was beyond helpful! I'm in the process of buying a wii late in 2020 and wanted to know the best way to make the graphics look hdmi compatible. This video was resourceful. Definitely subscribing
“You own all of the wii games”
Just dance: NOT SO FAST, MORTAL.
😂
Lol
LOl
This guy will be buying just dance for the rest of his life to complete that collection.
I love that they’re keeping it up I wanna see just dance 2077
It’s funny how every year they release it on the Wii like that’s the only game keeping the Wii alive but sadly it’s said that just dance 2020 is the last game on the Wii. 😔
@@christianherrera1960 wow 2020? Wii is starting to feel vintage/nostalgic to me now 😆
Shakedown Hawaii is coming this year
The fact that Just Dance 2020 came out on Wii 1 and not Wii U, THAT's insulting.
MrMario2011 a year old comment but thanks for the tip. Still will be good to avoid that tangle
Component cable is way better!
@@hdestotallyunoriginalgamin3555
You got the one that upscales.

It's kinda sad that the Wii is considered "Retro" now. I've have had this console since I was little and stile play it to this day! I even remember the little version of myself taking it out of the box! I was so excited!
Oh and remember playing this on my very fat CRT. I was so sad when we got an FHD widescreen tv! 😂

I'm 15 and I still own a fully functional Wii that I got when I was like 5
Me too dude me too
I got mine in 2010 when I was 3 I still have it with about 60 games

$30 for mario galaxy is NOT expensive. That game is worth every penny
+松萧劲 I ended up buying the new $20 release, so I'm happy.
by the way, thank you for your hidden gems vids. I LOVE 3D Dot heroes (although it is a zelda rip off, haha) if you wanna game u might not know about, maybe try a ps3 game called "dungeon defenders". i think it will be right up your alley.
i got it for free (i cant tell how,i might get into trouble but i m sure u already know)
That's exactly what they said in the video...
I got one brand new for $20 (Nintendo Selects)
The original release without the Nintendo Select branding is really expensive though, them collectors mentality jack the price up again.
A few reasons to pick up a Wii (or dust off the one you probably still have lying around):
1 - One of the best 1st party offerings in Nintendo's history (only beaten by the Super Nintendo and the Game Boy Advance in my opinion)
2 - Loads of hidden gems: I won't discuss whether or not they're hard to find or how much they cost, but they exist, and they're REALLY good.
3 - Virtual Console: Any console that can play SNES, Turbografx 16/CD, Genesis, NES and Neo Geo is undeniably a fantastic console
4 - Homebrew Channel: The Wii is perhaps the easiest console to hack and install fangames and homebrew programs on, including emulators which further expand your ability to play Retro Games on it!
1, No. 1 is Super Mario World) There isn't a single game I've played ever that can be compared to the feeling I got from playing Super Mario Galaxy, it blew my mind back in 2007, it still blows my mind today, it will probably never leave my top 3 as long as I live, I mean, even Soldier Blade and Magical Chase can't surpass the absolute wonder that is Super Mario Galaxy, heck, not even Zelda Ocarina of Time, a Link to the Past or even Mother 3 come close to that, and if those games can't, then I'm sure that no game ever will (unless Nintendo makes Super Mario Galaxy 3)
Super Mario Galaxy was the sole reason why I bought a Wii, I NEEDED to experience it and I feel that it is the apogee of gaming as a medium, it's an absolute masterpiece, I can't sing enough praises towards it, I've called it better than some of the best Turbografx 16 games ever, that's how much I love it...
Not to mention you're objectively wrong because Super Mario Galaxy ;3
Also, Any game system that can 'LEGALLY' play Sega Genesis, Turbografx 16, Super Nintendo AND Neo Geo in it, is objectively the Best Game System EVER!
(Not like the Wii shop is open anymore, but I still get VC games on the 3DS, and give my money to the publishers to show them directly that there is demand for retro games)
ONE MORE THING!!
And even if you think the Wii's library is s***, it's very, VERY easy to pirate Wii games, you can load a bunch of them into an external HDD, plug it in the back of your Wii and use USB loader GX to play them, simple as that, and you can use that to play the expensive stuff like Xenoblade Chronicles (which btw, is better than the New 3DS version) And Pandora's Tower (Which I had forgotten about, but It's pretty darn amazing)
So you could just load a bunch of Wii games like that, and explore the library without wasting a penny, and I know the Wii's Library is filled to the brim with crap, just like that of any popular system, but if you look really hard below the crap, there are plenty of hidden gems, like I said, I can't remember that many because it's been a long time since I played them, and there are plenty others, like Little King's story, Mad World and Zack and Wiki, that I haven't played yet, but I hear plenty of great things about!
hmm ok i'll take ur word for it but i havent seen modded controllers and/or adapters myself.
Its not an excuse for lazy or no translations. its not an excuse for a lack of screen filters either. its not an excuse for wack pricing. its not an excuse for games to be non-transferable (they were when i last looked into it, if thats changed take that last comment off)
Your naming all the games that everyone already knows about with the wii btw.
+Joe Formanek thats deals for SMG2
+Kacy DaGameNerd Yeah, MetalJesus was commenting that SMG2 was still pretty highly priced. 16 seemed ok to me for new. (Considering how much the Zelda Series, Punch-Out!, and Mario Kart are still going for on the Wii.)
Apparently BB has SMG2 for 9.99 used, if you can find it in store.
+Joe Formanek Yeah SMG2 use to be over $30. But since they released it as a Nintendo Selects game, then it has an MRSP of $20. I use the Best Buy gamer club unlocked program too for the 20% off new games. Its fantastic for pre-orders
+Joe Formanek Super Mario All-Stars and Donkey Kong Country Returns were reprinted as well and should be the same price.
I love how awesome these buying guide videos are, so informative. Truly ageless content
I'm just looking for games to buy, if they hopefully still exist...
the wii is the ultimate console, especially if you hack it.. you can play all retro, even arcade games.. gamecube and even all the wii titles.. all you need is a sd card and, if you want wii games, a usb thumb drive or ex hard drive.. there's a lot of GREAT wii titles and ports too... people that think the wii sucks have probably only played wii sports.
Exactly.
not even. wii sports is a good game tbh
And riiconnect24
Not all retro games unfortunately :( N64 emulation (wii 64, not 64) is shit for most n64 titles and even the games that do work have glitches that ruin the experience (like the race camera screen being broken in mk64) plus there isn't alot of the non 1st party n64 library on the VC either (like rareware games that are ESSENTIAL to any worthwhile n64 collection)
Never got psx/pscx to work & flawed emulation reported anyways :/
Also vbagx isn't a perfect emulator either. mother 3 stutters, and some 3d graphic games such as lego drome racers simply wont run :(
I do love my hbrewed wii tho, nes emu flawless, same w/ snes in my experience- and with the classic controller, the experience is damn near identical to an actual snes.
Highly recommended. 5 generations of games in one box is awesome!

No recommendation for Metroid Prime 3 Corruption?
Decent at best. Controls are clunky and I like the appeal of It, as It feels like an acrade game but yet has the atmosphere of a horror game.

The Wii was such a great console!
It made motion controls easy and fun!
No Fragile Dreams = Broken list.
Plus, the Wii classic pro controller looks like a PS2 or 360 controller? I think the PS2 and 360 controllers look like SNES controllers.
Two games that I think are worth mentioning are the Endless Ocean games.
+FriendlyWalker very true! Those games are surprisingly fun and relaxing
+MetalJesusRocks I have Xenoblade with the poster on the back of the cover. how much is that worth?
The music is something else😍
Thank you for that Guide, I can confirm "Ghost Squad" is awesome - brings back memories of arcade cabinets ;). You Rock Man !
Good to see some Wii love. Three's some great games.
Four years later, and the final wii game has been released! Great video!
4:35 "It's just an inch shorter in length" I guess size doesn't matter then...
As long as you mod it, its one of the best consoles around for arcade gaming
"A Boy and his Blob" on the Wii is amazing fun. Check it out!
+quiet451 yeah that's definitely a hidden gem.
Where is super smash bros brawl for the games to get day 1?
He owns all the Wii games, so far. There are still games being released in 2018.
Fun fact for the resident evil 4 Wii version: you can also use the Gamecube controller
I dont like that Wii to HDMI converter. It makes everything look too crisp, and exposes the Wiis low resolution and lack of anti aliasing too much.
It’s basically component?...
All great games, especially Kirby and Mario Galaxy.
One more to recommend: Metroid Prime Trilogy
Thank you so much for this video! I just got offered to buy a Wii , complete with box like new and I was ready to turn it down. Mostly because I didn't know much about the Wii, like backwards compatibility with GameCube and the awesome games on it. So glad I watched this video! I'm forsure going to buy it now. I never thought I would own a Wii, just never interested me. I've been missing out! Thank you MJR and Wii Nerd!! lol. Best channel on YT!
5:41 IIRC the Wii Mini came out around the same time as Nintendo were shuttering "Nintendo Wifi Connection"
I LOVE your videos and excellent presentation. Long time subscriber and forever fan :).
EDIT: For anyone interested in how to do this, google "How to SoftMod a Wii to Play Backup Wii, Gamecube and Wiiware Games"
If you buy a Wii my advice is to get a White Wii with connectors for Gamecube Controllers.
*****
I have it set up so that they can play any game they want off a 500 GB HDD, and used parental settings in WiiFlow (which makes it easy to brows games with a graphical interface) to lock the homebrew channel so that it's only accessible through the priiloader menu.
+Socialist Skeptic I thought the only way to play GC roms was to hardmod the Wii.

Nope if you have a white Wii all you need is a compatible SD card and USB device and a little bit of patience.
A good Seagate HDD for a Homebrewed Wii can run about the price of a Triple A game, but can store just about every good rom there is.
Quick tip if you don't have a sensor bar for the wii. The Wii remote works via infrared, so you can use two candles spaced apart in similar length to the sensor bar. The wii remote will sense infrared light from the candles and work. Might not work the best but it'll work in a jam.
Good video, but disagree on the Wii Mini- I actually bought mine at Target in Cleveland, OH. Not adding internet was a terrible development decision.
This awesome buying guide was super helpful to me! I used it all the time when building the wii collection of my own )))
I would suggest the Metroid Prime Collection. 1 Bundle - 3 great Games.
Hey guys, are they trolling us with the My Horse & Me game? I see tons of copies around and am skeptical.
Lmao
I believe they are.
Bad Marriage Same
Caseys vibe on camera is amazing! one of your best guests! Always wanted a proper PS vita vid frm you MJ much along these lines. Untill then please pass on my best to Casey cos he rocks!
Got the Wii pretty much day 1. I was so hyped for it.
The Wii is still awesome in 2019!
Hey they any wii games coming outt n 2020
Fans of Super Mario Galaxy 2,
*REMEMBER THE PERFECT RUN.*
Super Sophisticated I have galaxy 1
Oh yeah. I kept raging a couple times on that challenge.
I still can't beat it
So many memories. My yaya does bowling every tuesdays or wednesdays and her playing bowling while 6 of us were around that small tv. Its beautiful
The Wii classic controller pro is one of my favorite controllers Nintendo ever put out, it’s a shame it’s been forgotten as time goes on
I snagged an original model Wii for 30 bucks to play GameCube games. There's definitely some winners in the Wii library, but I wouldn't buy a Wii without having access to GameCube games. I only have like 4 Wii games and 20 GC games.
Most of the good Gamecube games cost more than Wii systems these days but I do agree that that backwards comparability is a huge selling point.
I remember my brother going to gamestop and asking for a wii classic controller and the employees looking at him like he had 2 heads 😂😂
Why did they look at him like that.
he owns all the games impressive damn
Soooo much shovelware on the WIi though, not impressive to buy trash.
My nephews and nieces LOVE Wario Smooth Moves. And I must have played through that Resident Evil on the gamecube 10 times.
Tatsuonoko vs Capcom....what an amazing fighting game. I had a blast with that one. The Data East compilation is pretty amazing too...who doesn't love some Sly Spy or Bad Dudes!!!
i still have my wii from 2006 and it’s backwards compatible
If I wanted a Wii, it's going to be the very first Wii model which is backwards-compatible with GameCube games, GameCube controllers, GameCube Wavebird wireless controllers and GameCube memory cards. Buyers beware: the Family Edition Wii and the Wii Mini really suck. Those two models are failures because they lack GameCube compatibility.
Three words:
The Last Story
Playing it rn, not nearly as good as I expected but its still fun
That you, this was beyond helpful! I'm in the process of buying a wii late in 2020 and wanted to know the best way to make the graphics look hdmi compatible. This video was resourceful. Definitely subscribing
The Wii Jacket (The Rubber skin for the Wii Remote) was meant for protection for the Wii Remote
Tip: softmod it!
