Yeah, I mean the dismal failure Dreamcast was the last Sega console ever and the dismal failure Wii U was Nintendo's last ever console. Thank dog they still make handhelds like the Switch though. Otherwise we'd be playing Zelda on GamePass on our PCs in 4K right now (instead of playing it in 4K on Yuzu for free on our PCs right now).

It is actually really fun, and anyway, I only buy consoles for the games you can PLAY on them, not for the high tech specs it may or may not have. This is just my opinion, though.
RetroBeta 64 I personally love the Wii U and really want one, but the sad thing is that I'm Korean, and the Wii U was such a failure that they didn't even bother releasing it over there........ Hopefully the Nintendo Switch gets released there.

Wii U definitely has the best fan service Nintendo has done in their consoles. Not only does it once again have the Virtual Console service on the eShop, but rather than simply playing Wii games on the main Wii U menu, you can go to Wii Mode and enjoy having a Wii within a Wii U.
And not only does the Wii Mode have the Wii menu and exact style, but it also has the Wii Shop. So you can play your Wii Virtual Console on your Wii U. And as a result, we now have several more consoles available on your Wii U aside from what their own eShop includes. We get the Turbografx, Neo Geo, Arcade games and so much more.
Nintendo truly has shined again, but most of you fail to see how good it does the little things that we seem to overlook all the time. I mean, really how can we say it sucks? And, if we're constantly bashing and saying how the old games are better, then WHY ARE WE BASHING THE WII U WHEN IT HAS SO MANY OF THOSE SAME TITLES AVAILABLE?! It is honestly so retarded that you bash a system that can play the systems you love.
Even if it isn't the same controller, you have to understand third-parties have made remakes of NES, SNES and N64 controllers capable of being plugged into the Wiimote as a Nunchuck would. Oh, remember how the Wii U also supports the use of Wiimotes? So that also flaws your argument of "Doesn't feel like it plays the same." But, you know, if you want an even more authentic experience of having to turn off the system to put the game in place again then by ALL MEANS feel free to bash your Wii U in a few times so it fails to load things properly. Ah, the nostalgia is killing me already.
But, I guess that doesn't matter. The argument will probably switch back to "It lacks so many new games" again anyway just so they can find another flaw wrong with this system. The Wii U is just as underrated as the SEGA Saturn is, we always see something as stupid just because it has low sales or little relevance. But, we just have to stop and actually LOOK at what we are agreeing with sucks. Maybe, we ourselves did not actually think this way, but rather decided to cause everyone else did.
Oh, and I don't mean to be extremely offensive to those who actually do collect the old consoles and like the experience better, I just want to give the haters a reason not to hate anymore and am trying to make several points that the Wii U is literally the best system around to play all the classics you love again, literally even the same exact way as they were played due to all the controller options. I apologize if any collectors took offense to my preaching, the ranting was not meant to be guided at you just the people who decide to treat the Wii U like complete shit.

And I still recommend people purchase a Wii U soon, because once Mario Kart 8 gets its DLC, Super Smash Bros hits the shelves and we finally get Gamecube games on the Virtual Console, then it really will be one of Nintendo's best since it can play literally EVERY console they have ever made. That certainly will put a damper on all the Wii U haters who want to go back to the old days, cause now you can do it all again in HD, with any controller you want courtesy of third-party developers and even in the original 4:3 if you wish, since the games are automatically put that way anyway. So the Wii U is Nintendo's best system they have ever made, since it expanded the Wii's well-known features and can now do everything imaginable that you once thought was not. So sit down, drink a SURGE now that they're back on the market and play Super Mario 64 on Wii Mode on Wii U with your third-party N64 controller to relive those glorious childhood memories once again!

Sooooooooooooooooo, basically your best argument(s) for "get a Wiiii UUUUU!!!1!" is basically for 1st-party games and an ability which I've had on my PC for YEARS now already? (Only I don't have to actually _repurchase_ all of my games to make use of it. ;~P) Gotta say...I don't get it. I mean, _maybe_ if I was in the market for a console...? *_Maybe_*...???
...but if I was in the market for a console -- which I'm not -- but if I was, I could just get a PS4 and enjoy not just all of Sony's 1st party games but the excellent 3rd party games released for the system, too. Not to mention PSN which not only includes great indie games and smaller games, but also games from older consoles as well, PS1 and PS2 especially. Or one could also go the XBone route with XBLA and Microsoft's 1st-party titles.
I mean, basically, your argument boils down to, "If you love Nintendo's first-party games, get a Wii U," and nothing much more than that. Sorry, but Nintendo, good games developers as they are, aren't the only devs in the world, and there are great games not made by Nintendo that are still worth playing. Games which the Wii U simply does not have the processing power to run (like, say, for example, GTA V and MGS V when it comes out). If I had to chose only one console, it'd have to not be a Wii U, but one of the other two, as much as I do like Nintendo's games. It's down to Nintendo vs. _everyone else_.
Basically, even with your argument(s), the Wii U is a good secondary console at best.

I play my Wii U every other day. Wii Mode offers plenty, first-party titles are better it's just you never played them and hence impulsively judged them. I thought Smash 4 was gonna suck, until I played it and realized it's actually TIGHTER than Melee is. How is that even possible? For it to be tighter, than Melee?
I'll tell you how: the creator sacrificed all of his vacation days and worked all day every day; even had an article about how his slowly became non-existent. He did it so he could please the ones that constantly bitched at him. But even now, they still do; if this man committed suicide I wouldn't even judge him. If I was in his shoes, that would be an every day thought for me too. Receiving hatred every day, trying his best; how has he NOT quit his job yet? Bet Smash 5 won't exist thanks to people like you complaining about the Wii U.
Just remember that Nintendo helped make video games a reality. Your PC games wouldn't even exist with as many unique Indie games as they have had if they didn't get their influence from someone.

I feel bad for those morons who think they have to avoid Nintendo because it isn't worth the money. Truth be told: ever since 2002 all you need to do is maintain a functioning PC and buy Ninty consoles then you are set to play 95% of all decent games on the market. This comes from a guy who likes each console brand out on the market.
Nintendo is trying to seperate itself from the rest of the market so much that people put xbox playstation and computer into one category when talking about nintendo in comparison to other markets. Last gen I had a good laptop ( now i have a nice desktop) and a ps3 and i never had wii last gen but allways had alot of fun playing one when i did. Since i have a nice computer and not really hung up on exclusives on mainstream market, looking toward nintendo this gen ^_^ .
That's why I said "most games". For the financially challenged like myself I'm forced to pick the most efficient ways to enjoy my videogames. So far all I have been able to purchase are Ninty consoles.
I have a PC but it is too old to run those other games I want.
Nintendo really is the best deal in this market: best quality games, best price, and for the most part the hardware lasts considerable longer.

I don't think there's anything wrong with the Wii U itself. The system is just fine.
It's Nintendo that's the problem. They're an unholy mess. They have no idea how to market this thing. The release schedule is a mess. The eshop and VC is a mess. Multiplayer options need a serious overhaul and achievement implementation needs to be added.
The console is fine. It's a great piece of hardware. It's how Nintendo is handling it is what makes it a joke.
Actually I blame whoever is responsible of coordination between hardware & software.
Why the flagship Nintendo franchises, the Mario games specifically, are not developed as launch titles is a complete mystery to me.
Every single console has its ideas misunderstood because of this.
Twilight Princess & Skyward Sword stand as iron proof of the theory.
Twilight Princess should've been a Gamecube launch title.
Same for Skyward Sword & the Wii.
Instead, TP is a launch title for the Wii, with forced controls that almost ruin the experience for Zelda fans, and turning off the rest of the gaming world.
Skyward Sword's reception suffered as a result. It perfectly showcased how a Zelda game on the Wii should be played.

***** Your comment is pretty uneducated as well. For starters, the Wii should have been HD in the first place, so to say it's their first HD console is a shitty excuse. Second, Nintendo should have had the games being made AS the console was being made. That's a really shitty excuse that they need to learn the hardware, they had the hardware in their hands the entire time they were developing it. It's not like the PS3 where it has a crazy architecture, there isn't much to learn about the Wii U's hardware, it's fairly straightforward.
Nintendo deserves the shit they are getting because they messed up. It's one thing to defend Nintendo, it's another to be blind fanboy and defend even their shitty decisions. They think their name will sell the products, and the world has shown that isn't the case anymore. They would have sold way more copies had they actually known how to make launch titles that were interesting and got people's attention. Not shitty advertising and mediocre ports of games for consoles people already have.

If I'm the first person you've seen to say they aren't interested in the Wii U game line up then clearly you haven't been looking very hard. Yes, they're making a new Zelda game.. and 3 years after the Wii U launch they damn will better be! When Gamecube launched they had Fzero GX,Starfox Adventures, Mario Sunshine, Zelda Wind Waker, Metroid Prime, Pikmin, Luigi's Mansion and many more excellent first party games available either at launch or within the first year and a half. Compare that with what Wii U has 3 year after it's launch. It's pathetic and I'm not the first person to point this out.

I wish Nintendo would make a Wii U peripheral that lets you play DS and 3DS games on your TV and gamepad, like a next-gen successor to the Game Boy Player and the Super Game Boy. It'd be a perfect and genius use of the gamepad's touchscreen. I don't think it's going to happen because of the Wii U's miserable sales though.

It has local multiplayer on it. Offline multiplayer is practically banned from the 'super HD' machines. That really put me off buying one.

The Wii U is a great console unfortunately the bulk of the games on it really only appeal to Nintendo fans, thankfully I'm one of them. That controller bit is true, can't replace it unfortunately. I don't know why people have to engage in fights over which platform is better to honest, I fail to see the point in it. The Wii U makes a great secondary console for this generation of hardware. It can go with your PC, Xbox One or in my case my PS4. It has alot of great titles that I want to play, as it stands right now I actually have more titles on my Wii U than I do on my PS4 but that is subject to change what with the upcoming releases of Fallout 4, Shenmue 3, Final Fantasy 7, and a host of others I can't name off the top of my head. All in all if I thought someone would enjoy Nintendo games I'd recommend the Wii U to them.

I got mine last year from GameStop for $130 the black 32gb one. It's amazing. Great great game's. The eShop is still up in 2020 and you can put the Homebrew channel on it too. It's truly fantastic. Breath of the wild , Mario kart 8 just so much awesome! However, Mark's right, the pad dies quick lol other than that get it! Especially if you love Nintendo

ppl tell me tobuy a PS4 or an xbone because they're supposedly better, well im a PC gamer, I only buy consoles for good exclusives, and to further insult the xbone and PS4, they need to have a lot of exclusives that I care about as well, the wii u has the largest exclusive library of the three consoles AND with the virtual console its exclusive library is effectively tripled. wanna know something? PC has the msot exclusive games and even has genres that are exclusive to PC and has the most exclusive games than every console combined from all generations, nintendo's consoles, the wii u with its entire virtual console library effectively puts it at the second place for largest exclusive library, the wii u has every reason to get my money and its going to get it very soon after getting my new 3DS XL which also has a TON of exclusive handheld titles along with its own virtual console - okay fuck the xbone and PS4, abysmally small exclusive library with barely any games that I care about and has genres of games that nintendo already has a more popular version of, sony tried to rip off smash with sony all stars battle royale which while decent is no where near the level of ANY of the super smash bros games, smash has much faster gameplay(yes even brawl I swear to god) an assload of moves and much more powerful characters with the possible exception of Kratos who btw shouldnt even be allowed to be played as in battle royale, Kratos while I hate the God of War series, is a fucking BEAST in battle royale, fast as fuck, strong attacks really its a miracle if you win against the person using him. its seems whenever I see a thing that I think is really good on a platform other than nintendo, nintendo seems to prove me wrong with a thing of their own, theres the smash example from above, better racing games(not really into the gran torismo series or the forza series[in fact I tried out forza on the xbone at a gamestop, idk if its just me and all my mario kart experience, but forza on the xbone is EASY, like its so easy that I dont even see the point in playing it, its a boring game with no substance beyond just holding the right trigger and occasionally let of it and occasionally press the left trigger, its boring, plain and simple]), better local multiplayer games(literally no contest here, I've tried little big planet on the PS3... its boring, again its a generic platformer with barely any challenge beyond cheap rom hack level design which isnt really that difficult for me anyway considering that I've beat super meat boy and am in about the middle of super mario bros 2 lost levels. and halo... omg I can literally rant on for an hour on why I hate halo so much and all the reasons I hate halo for are accentuated in split-screen co-op in story mode or local multiplayer, fuck halo, its a shit franchise and it should just die in a fire). srsly nintendo has captured my mind and thats never going to change, they've had it in their grasp since my gameboy advance SP with super mario bros 3(super mario advance 4 to be exact) my absolute favorite mario game of all time with super mario galaxy coming second and further keeping me with nintendo. again im a PC gamer so im probably gonna be waiting a while before I get a PS4(screw the xbone, never buying one, its shit and it should only be seen as such) since all the games that are on it are on PC, well all the games that I care about, and before someone points out that PS4 got GTA V first, ill be perfectly honest here, I havent been interested in the GTA series since the second GTA game I ever played on the PS2, GTA san andreas with my first GTA being vice city ON PC. so yeah I might give GTA V a look at but 1. i dont really care either way and 2. they delayed it to give it a good PC port so if I decided to check it out i would be getting the better experience cuz PC is better, objectively for even cheaper than consoles(i can go into detail on why but I wont for the sake of not making ppl tl;dr)
Let's just put it this way; This generations nintendo games is also making a less bad influence on children than xbox and ps does. Because ps and xbox got WAY too many violent games which is not suitable for 'em! Yes, they also got games which ARE, but only a few. And these few games is hardly attractive for any children at all. It's just sad hearing children screaming and swearing online just because they couldn't find any other popular or attractive games for their consolle. That is where nintendo comes inn, they make games suitable for children which even looks a lot better worked on (like; pikmin 3, zelda wind waker, mario 3d world etc), I even play those games myself. I have no regrets for buying a wii u instead of xbox one or ps 4, and I will be playing nintendoland with my niece which I'm really looking forward to.
And to all of you children out there reading this; Playing COD won't make hair grow on your chest.

Right let's address this 3rd party games arguement, IF Nintendo decided not to have any 3rd party software it would still be a great console, why? Because Nintendo for the past 2,3,4 years have been the top games publishers ahgead of Sony, THQ, Ubisoft, EA the list goes on, they theoretically don't need 3rd party games because Nintendo creates THE best games, there is no arguement the sales will tell you this FACT.
They own the handheld console WHEN everyonr has a tablet and smart phone yet Nintendo just kills the competition in that regard and you could say the handheld market is FAAAAR more saturated and competitive tha the console market.
Why so much hate on Nintendo? I loved them from NES to SNES :) Sorry but N64 was a failure, especialy compared to the mighty Playstation 1. Gamecube was a great console... but it couldn't compare to the allmighty Playstation 2; which had more and better games; was cheaper and less purple :)
David Isais Most of what you are saying is completely subjective, just because you say "x game is the best of all time" doesn't mean it is true. N64 was a failure when compared with the PS1, the PS1 was the first console that sold 100 million units and it had much better third party support than the N64. The biggest proof that the PS1 won is that while the PS1 was released in 1994 and lasted all the way till 2006 in production (12 years in production), the N64 launched on 1996 and it was discontinued in 2003 (7 years in production).

And PS1 was better because of technology (it has weaker GPU etc but the technology was more advanced), huge support of 3rd party devs- cause SONY wasn't as greedy and control hungry as big N (which if it coul would censore every game like in stalin russia). Price- PS1 was cheaper and had cheaper games. Oh... and the games- PS1 was first true console for more mature audience- it had mature games with mature storylines, AS WELL AS games for kids/evedryone (which in my subjective opinion were often better than M64- Crash Bandicoot for example).

I don't think it's a niche system. The whole point of the console was to appeal to the idio- I mean "mainstream" gamers. You don't have to use the GamePad, you can use the Wii U Pro Controller, which is an awesome little addition. And the name is simple too, and at least it's not as absurd as 'Xbox One' (which is actually the third). The only thing the "mainstream" market cares about is Call of Duty. Yes the Wii U has it, but because it also doesn't have hardware that costs an arm and a leg to get the idiotic 'mainstream' market ignore it.
But when it comes down to it the Wii U is easily the best Generation 8 console. It's not as expensive as the other two overhyped piles of crap and it can do things that a computer can't (unlike the the other two which you have no reason to get if you have a computer). Nintendo's made the right move, and it'll make its appeal, but just slowly. I don't think it's the new Dreamcast. Also with the controller I just keep it plugged in. How cans you not like it? It plays Mario in HD. It's actually a game console, not a wussed out attempt at a computer (Sony, I'm looking at you).

Sega, Atari, and SNK can attest to how boasting graphics and raw power are roads to failure, and Nintendo's learned that lesson and are not keen on making the exact mistakes those three made that are the same exact mistakes Sony and Microsoft are currently making.
And the Wii U's sales aren't really THAT poor. There's been a notable trend where they seem to jump up and plateau every time a new exclusive is launched, and Pikmin 3, Wind Waker HD, and Super Mario World 3D have notably increased their sales. And... yeah, the Wii was a massively successful console.

Actually, the Wii U gamepad charger plugs into a wall or multi-outlet. The Wii U Pro controller, however, can be plugged into your wii u, or any USB drive to charge.

Also, If you're worried about the battery life on the Wii U pad, you can always charge while you play.
It doesn't accept normal batteries anyways. Has a built in pack you can charge directly from the wall like a handheld.
You can just use the pro controller you don't need the game pad just leave it to the side on its charging stand.

its because its the middle man. people want to forget about it but at the same time its loved, just because its Nintendo. its like finding a beaten puppy on the street you feel sorry for it but at the same time you wish it would leave you alone. On top of that it lacks games atm. which is reasonably common with systems seeing how its still in its first year cycle
I can agree with the game having a lack of games, but the games that actually are there are mostly Nintendo Exclusive games like Pikmin 3.

Why do people think it's a handheld? It's not a handheld. And the controller is not the console. The console is the slab currently sitting on top of my 360. You don't NEED to use the GamePad.

There are cheap battery extensions for the controller and considering the size of the screen and weight of it battery life is fully reasonable

I'm glad I watched your review. If I was home more often, and had to share an LCD tv, yeah the Wii U makes sense. For me, the Wii is more than enough. All of the best games on the Wii U look like upgrades of those I already own on the Wii.
Kinda reminds me of all the PS2 sequels on the PS3. Been there done that. Good stuff, yeah, but I have such a huge backlog of games that stretches all the way from the NES-GBA-SNES-Genesis-MAME-PSX-PS2-Dreamcast-Gamecube-Wii I'm pretty much set for life. :)

I have a black 32 GB Wii U and it's awesome! The Wii U is fun because when playing the Wii U, you can easily perform advanced button commands on Tekken Tag Tournament 2: Wii U Edition by using the Wii U gamepad's touchscreen. Who needs Wii U arcade sticks? And that's not all: you can also play online for free which means you don't have to pay to play online with pre-paid cards! Nintendo is WAY better than Microsoft and Sony.
