Rod/reel combo with fishing kit as an emergency setup ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxntWMOZsO1Zfv-pdn_XuffEtNkTYAYu4Z recommend but started to use this every day. The rod is thick and seems durable. I keep it neatly tucked into a regular backpack all the time with my fishing gear, and can grab it anytime, put it on my back and go anywhere. I just read in another review that the rod length below the reel is adjustable as well, so I will try that too for even more portability. Probably the best setup I've ever owned. I lost the cap for the eyelets, but no big deal since I still have the black cloth sheath that came for the pole and I use that. Very portable and high quality.
I remember fishing with Roland by in 71 at Lake Mead..., He the "BASS A LEGEND", Im still hitting it in 2021. No more circuits, just dropping a hook in the water around Lake TEXOMA and a few other places near by. Thanks to him you BASS fisherman have so many great products and methods to select from. I had maybe 150 rod myself and just as many reels. Sure wish we could turn back the clock to the GOOD OLD DAYS!
I remember being a little kid growing up and watching Roland on tv every Saturday. It was when he was a pro so it tells my age. Never met him but hope to one day. Thanks for the videos. Very helpful and informative.
sorry to be offtopic but does someone know a tool to get back into an instagram account?? I was stupid forgot the account password. I would appreciate any tips you can give me!
@Eli Zion I really appreciate your reply. I found the site thru google and I'm waiting for the hacking stuff now. Takes a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
Solid, no nonsense info from the legend! 👊 I grew up watching you, Bill Dance, and Jimmy Houston. You three inspired my early years of bass fishing in the 80's. It's such a privilege to get served up straight talk about gear, tips, and tactics - and your enthusiasm is infectious. Keep up the great work! 👍
You know what's nice about this video....other than the great rod tips? This video is just straight through. it's not a 12 min video with 40 cuts/edits in between. Great job!
I never get tired of listening to the man, the legend, Mr Roland Martin's teaching cadence and voice. I've Watched him my entire life and glad to know he's still teaching and sharing what the Lord has Blessed him with in all that knowledge and the ability to relay it. Keep it Up and Thank You.
Roland helping out the grandson sponsoring favorite rods and googan baits lol love ya Roland been watching you 40+ years always fun to watch all you sponsor and your fun tricks
I am enjoying my summer vacation and since I have plenty of time and am very keen on bass fishing, now I am using my English (and brushing it up too!) to learn fishing techniques from the videos of American anglers, most of them bass pros. Also I am spending a lot of money purchasing new lures and tackle via internet (oh my, this is insane! I don´t seem to have enough lures! they are like my colorful adult toys!). I rewind the above mentioned videos again and again to write down notes of my conclusion about the matters these anglers agree with one another on. As if were a student of...fishing. Some days ago I ended up coming across the videos of Mr. Martin and...wow! they are super demonstrative and right to the point. Most of the information about rods I already had but some questions remained unsolved. This video is a diamond of gleaned information which I struggled to gather for long hours because I had planned to purchase a new decent quality finesse rod. If I had had this video everything would have been much easier and short. Thank you once more Mr. Martin. I am collecting your videos!. By the way I ended up ordering a Daiwa Tatula 7 foot medium power fast action rod. I hope to have made a good choice.
Mr. Martin, your videos bring back good memories of my childhood. Watching your shows on Sunday mornings and waiting for the next time to go fishing with my dad and brothers. Am 40 years old and still love fishing with my dad and brothers. Thank you for making fishing exciting and fun in your shows.
jimmy houston and roland martin are the two fishing shows i grew up watching. when i was much younger it was jimmy's show we wrould watch but as i got lil older roland martin was the main show we would tune in to watch. thank you sir. i salute you.
I'm also a big monofilament guy has not left me dry. Is my go to 12lbs line where I live. Don't need much in power in line for my baitcaster reel with a spinning reel 6 lbs to 8 lbs co-Pomler line Brit color is my favorite. I had a heavy power rod keep ripping out the hook out of there mouth so I stop and sold it to my friend to use. I've watched you from the 80's you've tat me allot for Bass fishing sir 👊🏼 respect to you.
The best rod is the one with a fish on it. The best rod is whatever is best for your fishing strategy at the time. It's like asking what is the best gun for defense. It's the gun you have in your hand when you need it. Love Roland Martin. He is the master. Love his presentation.
I’m new to bass fishing and really enjoy watching your videos. I wish you could make a how to video on how to convince your wife to let you buy a new rod and reel combo. When you just bought one last week. Thanks for your wealth of knowledge that you share here!
Roland Martin is more then a teacher. He was a beast when he tournament fished. He wow 9 angler of the year awards with the first coming in 1971. Yes he is a great teacher but he is a Legend.
Your knowledge is outstanding and your teaching and entertaining skills are and have always been excellent. Really enjoy your channel and thanks Tyler for the filming/editing!
I have most of these set ups. You are definitely my favorite from the old days when you fished with little 85 horse outboards in the 73 Bass Masters and I still like your teachings. I so much enjoy watching your son Scott do his fishing videos and it's so easy to see where he gets his zest for life and for this wonderful sport. I'm your age but not ready to leave Michigan for the southern states quite yet. You need to come up here and hook onto a GIANT STURGEON in Burt lake. When you are among the select few that catch one of these prehistoric creatures it is something you will never forget. They use to spear them which obviously meant death to the fish but I release almost everything I catch. I believe they have a lottery or some kind of drawing and a strict limit on these amazing creatures.
Rolland.. I love you.. please never stop giving advice and tips. It's cool you use Flair's frogging flipping stick I watch him to. Good video and god bless
I’d pay to have even one of your broken rods, and would be proud to have it! You’re a legend, Roland. I love listening to and watching both you and your son. Thanks to both of you for all that you have, and continue to contribute to us amateurs. 🙂🎣
Hey Brother, I've been following you since we were both young men. I love your U-tube education and hope you will keep making them for years to come. God Bless...,
Yes Sir........I've always told beginners ya need to work your way up to at least 6 rods, because they'll all be in different lengths & actions for different line, lures, and applications. You can really do a lot with 8 rods. It sure cuts down on swapping out lures too, which kills valuable fishing time.
Been watching you fish since I was a kid and loved every minute of it also I watch Scott and Hilary fish, that granddaughter of yours is an excellent angler and casts a baitcaster better I can!
Love your videos, been watching and learning from you for years. My Dad when he was alive watched you as well. My Dad fished all the time, but never fished professional like you. In fact you an him looked a like. I inherited his equipment except for the boats, still have them, what a collection! I live between you and Scott for the last 8 years.Keep on showing what you are great at. Thank you!
Roland Martin is the man as a kid I would watch your fishing Shows and YOU are the ONLY ONE that would put on a set of chest waders and wade in the lillie pads and catch absolute monsters.. good times Roland keep up the content !!
For those of you who are just starting bass fishing and just want a rod that u can use OK with any application, I’d go with 7 foot medium heavy. I can remember watching these videos when I was starting out about how u need a million rods
Thanks Roland.I tell my wife all the time it takes different types of rods. I use open face rods.me and bait casters don't get along.what's Ur go to topwater bait and test line on a open face
I just found your channel. I have watched just about all of your tv shows in the past. Am I telling my age? LOL Looking forward to watching more of your tube videos. Just got back into fishing this last summer after a 20 or so year break. I think you should do a video, comparing the catches in the 70's and 80's comparing them to now with all of the newer electronics.
Hey Roland: Sounds/looks like you're having as much fun making UA-cam videos as we are watching them. Thanks for sharing! FYI: On my kayak, I haven't yet used any rod longer than 7' or heavier than "MH". When the hooked bass bogs down in the cover, I take my kayak to him, not vice versa. It's still fun and effective. Happy fishing!
Thanks for sharing your wisdom. Excellent information Roland. I'm an Ugly Stik man, have three of them. Reasonably priced, stellar Brand Name and I've never had one fail.
i just mainly use one rod. but i mainly do drop shot or texas weightless. but ya i go a lot and the one downside i put a lot of wear and tear on the single set up. but i just went cheap pole route with a decent reel. if i had a boat or fished tournaments though i think having all the poles would be beneficial because then you can toss any bait a lot easier then if you just have one. i cant do big swimbaits or pitch jigs with mine really in heavy but we dont got much of that here from the banks we can get to. another trick though if you have one pole and one reel and cant afford it all. you can get multiple spool for your reel and have different lines on them so you can still do more baits with just a single pole. though there is set up time ect.
I think Roland's Confidence Bait is the Senko....At the end of the day...What really works better than a Senko? Going to start pitching with it more with a pegged weight. I carry way too much tackle, Need to go back to just a Senko, Culprit, and Tube/Craw. Love the simplicity. Green pumpkin 5" Senko anytime.
Good video Roland, but no mention of of options regarding action of the rods for particular functions, such as fast action for worm fishing vs moderate action for crank baits.
Do you ever fish with old school fishing equipment. Such as the round ambassador reels and tackle. It would be nice to see a video on that. I’ve been a fan for 40 years. Thanks for sharing and all you do for the sport. Jim from Milton, GA
Hell i use a daiwa heartland z from japan i snagged new at a antique store and its a tough ultra light. Imagine having 15lb mono fishing with a whopper plopper. That pole is a tank but catching big fish is a fight on that rod
Mr. Martin i only will be using a spinning rod what best set up for my worm rod, frog rod, and spinner chatter bait rod am short am ive heard 7ft rods might be to long for me to use plus am a beginner bass fiherman
G! Great info! If one were to buy ONE rod for Bass fishing using either plastic worm or frog, what length and action would you recommend, and what kind of line in what poundage? Thank you!
Thank you sir for your great videos and info. Is a 9 footer baitcaster too long for bank fishing? we have a lake that has some very big fish but they are too far in the deeper waters that I cannot reach from the bank. I would like to be able to cast my jighead or swimbait far enough to reach the deeper waters. Thanks in advance for your response.
That's a lot of rods to take with you..!! What rod/line would you choose if you had to choose 1 all purpose baitcast and one all purpose spincast for lakes that don't really have "big" fish?
I currently use a 7' med spin w/12 lb for my main rod and a 5' 6" ultra lite w/6lb for the little stuff... but I'm hoping to get my first baitcast this year
That actually sounds like a good addition to the 2 that I have. I'm assuming a moderate speed reel with 15 to 20 lb would be adequate? Thank you for the reply.
So for my crank bait fishing, the lightest I can can find is just medium action. I know you said you can dive it down to deeper limits but I'm wondering if medium would still work
Nice tips sir, sir one thing I would like to ask you there are two different brands fishing rod for 8 feet in spinning rod nd one of them is thin in diameter but lure weight is 30g to 80g and another rod is thicker in diameter but lure weight is 15g to 49g I.e., Penn Squadron. So, sir which one should I go, I have doubt that thin diameter rod would be strong enough or not?
bahh you really don't need all these rods ,you can catch anything from pan fish to salmon on a couple of rods, i caught 3.5' 12lb pike on a 6' med rod with old 6lb test line ,its all about the drag and taking your time , i got about 8 or 9 rods altogether and i only use 2 of them at a time on most trips ,either of the two 5' or 6' light action for pan fish or other two of 6' or 7' med action for catfish or walleye or heavier fish ,just those 4 and only use 1 or 2 of them at a time but some ppl love spending there money on all kinds of fishing gear, for me i look at it from an economical point of view as well as fun but not spend crazy money on things that do not have that much difference between them like all these rods ,i like getting a return on my investment and that means i try and catch fish with as little as possible on the spending, heck im already in the hole before i even catch anything on gas, lunch ,bait, parking etc, i guess for some folks its all about the spending on gadgets fun, not for me

I personally like 6'9 to 7ft medium fast rods for most of my bass fishing here in Florida 👌.

I've caught a few sturgeon and it's a blast. I've also practiced catch and release and without it these great fish would be soon be extinct!
@flair roland martin uses your frogging rod I find that awesome
great info as always Roland. I grew up watchin you. Still have my first baitcasting reel...a spidercast low profile.

And you got me started using Spike-It, I use garlic it’s awesome
It’s always very informative to hear the legends share info on the type of gear they like to use for certain situations. Thanks!! 🙏👍🏽😎🤓🎣🐟🐟🐟
Wow! Just a gem 💎 of a video, a lot of insight and knowledge

BASS have nightmares when they hear roland is in town.
Hahaha
You bet they know him well.
Lmfao😂
Excellent video sir!
Absolutely love the instructional information from you sir! Keep it up.
Thanks for the support!
Thanks for sharing your wisdom. Excellent information Roland. I'm an Ugly Stik man, have three of them. Reasonably priced, stellar Brand Name and I've never had one fail.
I really like your tips and techniques! Thank you
You sir are alongside all the greats. Richard Petty, George strait, and you.

Roland has me talked into trying a frog again.
Gotta love Roland. Thumbs up.
Thank you for all you have done, Mr. Martin. Much respect.
Again I learned something! Thanks Roland!
Keep them coming Roland.. good stuff!
i really enjoyed this video!! Im trying hard to learn all I can about bass fishing. I wanna be the best!!! JUST LIKE YOU!!!!
I love favorite USA waiting on an email back from the prostaff love to join their team the pump out the Goods like this
Good video Roland, but no mention of of options regarding action of the rods for particular functions, such as fast action for worm fishing vs moderate action for crank baits.
I'll cover that soon
Great information! Thank you for sharing.
Do you ever fish with old school fishing equipment. Such as the round ambassador reels and tackle. It would be nice to see a video on that. I’ve been a fan for 40 years. Thanks for sharing and all you do for the sport. Jim from Milton, GA
Thanks for the Good Info. Roland!
Legend! A passion and love for fishing. Absolutely amazing videos.
Thanks Mr. Martin, God bless!
Hell i use a daiwa heartland z from japan i snagged new at a antique store and its a tough ultra light. Imagine having 15lb mono fishing with a whopper plopper. That pole is a tank but catching big fish is a fight on that rod
Thanks for the info, keep up the good work.
Great Product
Roland Martin you’re my hero! 🙌🏽🎣💪🏽✊🏽💯🍻🍻
Mr. Martin i only will be using a spinning rod what best set up for my worm rod, frog rod, and spinner chatter bait rod am short am ive heard 7ft rods might be to long for me to use plus am a beginner bass fiherman
Roland martin is a bass hero alternative to guitar hero. Other tutorials dont pale in comparison. Absolutely love him
Stopping by to send some love, hope your well. keep on fishing
Good stuff ROland! Thanks!
good data thanks
G!
Great info!
If one were to buy ONE rod for Bass fishing using either plastic worm or frog, what length and action would you recommend, and what kind of line in what poundage?
Thank you!
7'4" med heavy with 50# braid
@@RolandMartinOutdoors
Thank you, fellow Floridian - please advise who makes them 2-piece? (Needs to be able to fit in my pickup truck).
7ft mh fast action rod is perfect for a lot of applications especially a worm rod.
I agree
That's a lot of rods to take with you..!! What rod/line would you choose if you had to choose 1 all purpose baitcast and one all purpose spincast for lakes that don't really have "big" fish?
I currently use a 7' med spin w/12 lb for my main rod and a 5' 6" ultra lite w/6lb for the little stuff... but I'm hoping to get my first baitcast this year
My number one, all purpose rod is a 7' med heavy action casting rod!
That actually sounds like a good addition to the 2 that I have. I'm assuming a moderate speed reel with 15 to 20 lb would be adequate? Thank you for the reply.
Great video, from the Fisherman's, fisherman. Thanks
Thanks Roland! Best vid on UA-cam super helpful. 👍
Soooo.. what does the xheavy affect fishing? What is the best size for freshwater.? I plan to catch whatever bites.
of all the baits? whats the master bait?
Senko
So for my crank bait fishing, the lightest I can can find is just medium action. I know you said you can dive it down to deeper limits but I'm wondering if medium would still work
Nice tips sir, sir one thing I would like to ask you there are two different brands fishing rod for 8 feet in spinning rod nd one of them is thin in diameter but lure weight is 30g to 80g and another rod is thicker in diameter but lure weight is 15g to 49g I.e., Penn Squadron. So, sir which one should I go, I have doubt that thin diameter rod would be strong enough or not?
I'm a power fisherman so I like heavy actions
@@RolandMartinOutdoors ok
Can medium heavy action rods work for spinnerbaits as well Roland? Or is a medium action what you need?
Both will work
Cool, thanks for the tips
What kinda of set up from rod line and test would you use for fishing for crappies? I know youre more a bass fishermen
I'm not a crappie expert
Thanks! Appreciate everything
Favorite rods, Favorite fisherman......👍
Now that's good info for a newbie like me Roland! Thanks a Mil!
Just realized today that Scott Martin is your son! I haven't seen a video with you two fishing.
bahh you really don't need all these rods ,you can catch anything from pan fish to salmon on a couple of rods, i caught 3.5' 12lb pike on a 6' med rod with old 6lb test line ,its all about the drag and taking your time , i got about 8 or 9 rods altogether and i only use 2 of them at a time on most trips ,either of the two 5' or 6' light action for pan fish or other two of 6' or 7' med action for catfish or walleye or heavier fish ,just those 4 and only use 1 or 2 of them at a time but some ppl love spending there money on all kinds of fishing gear, for me i look at it from an economical point of view as well as fun but not spend crazy money on things that do not have that much difference between them like all these rods ,i like getting a return on my investment and that means i try and catch fish with as little as possible on the spending, heck im already in the hole before i even catch anything on gas, lunch ,bait, parking etc, i guess for some folks its all about the spending on gadgets fun, not for me
What short rod do you recommend for me to keep in the car trunk to catch blue gill and crappie with?
Great video 👏👏👏
