For a beginner reel, I love the Daiwa BG. Things are bulletproof. I also have a Shimao Socorro that i've had since the early 00s that has never given me problems. The gears are starting to wear out, but replacement parts are pretty cheap and I have fun reconditioning them.
@@lucasyoung4832 I agree. The BG is a great reel. I have a BG MQ in a 10,000 size, (kinda big), that I use on one of my surf rods, and you’re right; they are great reels!

I agree with not every rod is for everything. But price wise get in where you fit in. It can get very expensive. Personally I’m a St.CROIX Blackhole guy pole wise . Shimano for the boat and pier. VanStaal for the beach.
I got an idea for a design, but not the drive to do it. Instead of a fixed length interchangeable parts for 2 or 3 lengths. So you can have a 6, 9, 12ft rod in one.
A very helpful video thanks now I know exactly what type of rods and reels to use at beach really like the rod you customize for all types of fishing situations

Great travel rod you designed. Just a little comment, that shark isn't a lemon shark. Lemon sharks have 2 dorsal fins where the second one is 80% the size of the front one. & the fins are more flared.
For surf fishing, I would recommend 11-12-foot pole. The guide size of the pole will depend on what type of reel will be used. For the spinning reel, use a pole with a large guide close to the reel and get narrow as it reaches the tip of the pole. When you cast on a spinning reel the line unwinds from the spool, creating drag on the line which reduces the distance you cast the reason why you need a large guide close to the spinning reel.. For open face reel (level wind), use a pole with narrow guides close to the reel up to the tip of the pole. A narrow guide helps guide the fishing line as it unwinds from the reel to the guides/pole.
I've fished different rods and reels. I've learned that what you spend is the quality that you get. Only thing that I'm concerned about your rod is how well it will it holds up over time. The one company that does that style of connection for rods is break away tackle company. But I'm thinking about trying your rod to see how it preforms at the Texas coast.
neddy here a tip i got, research your laws 1st and find that loophole and learn your laws cause this will help you save so many problems, for example just because its legal for me to use j hooks and circle hooks dont mean its legal for you to use j hooks for certain species, or youre allowed to use certain baits, some states have laws that its illegal to use live worms or that yu have to use artificial baits, otherwise yu can end up with really big fines, another thing is that though it might be legal for me to use any thing i want for bream or catfish doesnt mean its legal to use treble hooks in texas, i know in montanna its illegal to use live red worms for bream, or blue gill,
Skipper, do you have recommendations for ponds and creeks? I know your channel is mostly salt water, but I like both fresh and salt water. Any info would be appreciated.

The only place where I have fished in the ocean was a river mouth so luckily I just used my regular lake fishing rod with a 4000 sized Shimano. It was a long time ago so it was a Quick fire reel.
I use fresh water rods and reels for sea fishing. Also sea rods and reels for fresh water fishing. Same with fishing lines and tackle. I've been fishing since the age of 4 years old. Broken branch for a rod. Piece of cotton thread for line and bent pin for a hook. Used pieces of bread as bait. Caught 4 trout over 2 lbs in weight. That was 57 years ago. I catch fish with what ever fishing gear I use. I have from the cheapest fishing gear and a couple of medium rods / reels. 99% of fishing gear is no better than the next. It's 7:20 just the dumb angler that buys it.
That’s awesome that you can catch fish on all sorts of gear. I agree, it’s not the tackle or gear that makes the fisherman. Thanks for watching and commenting, much appreciated 👍
Im a beginner in fishing. Bought a couple of days ago a 6ft shimano vengeance rod and broke it when unexpectedly I caught a big northern pike 😢 it was a good catch though but at the expense of my new rod. It was my first big catch. I ended up looking for a new rod. Hopefully I will get lucky to get that great rod you have. Wish I could try something like that.
I would like to try one of these, but I do mainly black tip shark fishing. I do fish for other stuff, but I prefer the f fight of the bigger fish so I’m running 80 pound braid on my 8000 and 55 or 65 pound braid on my 6000 series. I have a pin squadron and an ugly stick and a cheap daiwa rod. I’m looking for a better option, but I don’t want to pay a whole lot. The rods seem to cost more sometimes than the reels. It’s like buying a good but inexpensive Knife , but having a two dollar sheath and having to pay $300 for a good leather sheath when you only paid 150 for the Knife

I just returned a rod to the store. The label covered up the last guide and I got it home and realized it was a casting rod and I was using it for a spinning reel. I took it back in to Bass Pro Shops and traded it in for a spinning rod
I love the Shimano Seguro you can't beat the price for around 80 dollars you can get up to 9 ft on mh fast with 20 to 50 lb braid. It is one of those rods that can do it all, they have no lure r rating also XD. I have the 8-foot with and run 30 lb braid it's mh fast I use it as a plugging rod and it works great. I have a Pen Battel VI 5000
thanks! Happy you enjoy our content. Have you seen all of the fishing gear we sell? Check out my website, we have a ton of new fishing products to help you.
I’m sure you get something for the plugs but try $100 rods or cheaper. Most non-paid fishermen won’t ever buy a $400-$600 rod and $600-$800 reel. I’ve seen all the videos of the lures that weren’t name brand that you did well with. Try more things like that but with rods and reels. The Stella 5000 is very high end. The 14000 you used recently had me gassed when I saw the price. I’ve caught most of my saltwater fish on a Walmart tiger spinning rod and reel combo. Ant not including the cost of line and rigs it’s $25.
buck i use a penn persuit 4,000 size spinning reel i purchased for $50 from academy sports, and i even had days that i caught 5 pounders on the reel, so im reminded yu can catch biggins on cheap gear
I am thinking about buying it! Simply because I am supporting small business and I just recently went to Japan and fished with my 7ft travel rod. I realized quickly that I needed something longer lll
Love the videos n advice..its not simple choosong rod or reel it is if you have te finaces funds. give some advice on choosing rods reels for those who have limited or low budget finaces. It obvious e you have to pay for quality..
Ok so here’s my problem. I moved to Northern California a few years ago. I moved here from the Midwest and have been fishing in the rivers and lakes for years. I tried surf fishing once since I thought I could throw it out like you did and let it sit like fishing in a river but the line kept coming to shore so I always had to wind the line in and I got sick of it quick and haven’t shore fished since then. Anyone have any pointers for a surf fishing beginner.

Have you ever fished in South Korea or Japan? I have seen one time you fished in Mexico I think it was. I also like to know if you do ship your product internationally to like South Korea because I like your products a lot and planning to move to S. Korea in the future. I enjoy all your videos and always recommend everyone to watch them.
Heyskipper thks verry good video 🔥 i tried texting the giveaway number but it didn't work , do you have any tips ?
I just returned a rod to the store. The label covered up the last guide and I got it home and realized it was a casting rod and I was using it for a spinning reel.
I took it back in to Bass Pro Shops and traded it in for a spinning rod
Awesome video bro ❤! I have been looking into an all around versatile rod for a long while now . Definitely checking your website.
i wanna start fishing. are the telescopic rods good?
Probably not as good as some decently made multi pieces rids.
@@Kong-sw8ld thanks.
Going to be in Myrtle beach in a couple weeks, I’ll meet you there…
One of your best videos I’ve seen. Love the new rod too! 😊
I’m going to Bellingham, WA Saturday and Sunday for king salmon
Is the give away available for out of the us?
Basically, get the best rod you can afford. It's about having a good time and taking time to unwind. The more expensive stuff will come with time.
Can you do a video on the best reels and rods too buy
Sich a great video. The hey stick is very nice, its amazing that comes apart for travel
I enjoy your videos! Would like to try the drone drop sometime!
Thanks for watching! The drone is such a fun piece of equipment for the beach, haha that thing is awesome
Jack of all trades, just like your new rod!!!
Thank you! You can get it on our website, heyskipperfishing.com. 😊

Hey Skipper, let us know the next time you swing by Texas. I would love to swing by to say Hi and see you doing what you do Best.
I truly appreciate your comment! Maybe one day we can share a tide together!
Dude couldn’t finish a sentence without hooking something up! Haha, awesome man👍🏽
Where can I buy your the rod you design to travel
around 17 mins you sounded like Forest Gump: "My momma always said that with the right rod at the beach, you cant ever know WUT ye gonna catch!"
This is a great idea, I’ll do some tests and figure out some solid recommendations 👌👍🎣 thanks so much for watching
buck i use a penn persuit 4,000 size spinning reel i purchased for $50 from academy sports, and i even had days that i caught 5 pounders on the reel, so im reminded yu can catch biggins on cheap gear
hi skipper i am in jacksonville what part are you fishing ?
I am thinking about buying it! Simply because I am supporting small business and I just recently went to Japan and fished with my 7ft travel rod. I realized quickly that I needed something longer lll
Love the videos n advice..its not simple choosong rod or reel it is if you have te finaces funds. give some advice on choosing rods reels for those who have limited or low budget finaces. It obvious e you have to pay for quality..
Okuma allways been my go too
Keep up the good work. Thanks for the video
I need it , love how compact it is
You have stores?
I just ordered one and got it and I love it. Hopefully to win another one😂
I want to buy one of these rods where can i order
How about a jigging rod. Short powerful rods
1 pease rod ; 12-30 or 30-50 lbs (last is best in my opinion for boat-use) and a reel simular to the rod . good luck
Has the giveaway ended or do we still have a chance to participate and win?? 😊
Should definitely make a 1 pc of this rod skipper
