Three Rods for all your Tackle

  • I will show you that 3 rods are all you need to get the job done! The only problem is that you have to tie several different lures on the same rod! Line clips help speed up the lure changing. These 3 rods are perfect for the power fisherman like myself. In the future, I'll recommend different rods for light tackle or finesse fishing. Bass wishes and catch a bunch!

Rod/reel combo with fishing kit as an emergency setup ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxntWMOZsO1Zfv-pdn_XuffEtNkTYAYu4Z recommend but started to use this every day. The rod is thick and seems durable. I keep it neatly tucked into a regular backpack all the time with my fishing gear, and can grab it anytime, put it on my back and go anywhere. I just read in another review that the rod length below the reel is adjustable as well, so I will try that too for even more portability. Probably the best setup I've ever owned. I lost the cap for the eyelets, but no big deal since I still have the black cloth sheath that came for the pole and I use that. Very portable and high quality.

right I can't take his advice either my fish species are the same, so it's light ultra-light and med-light spinners for me only really, I don't like medium, I feel that I only need one pole a med-light and I know what lures catch everything I need, for me it's about rocks not marring up my lures and not losing lures like I did losing one yesterday to a rock

That was a great review! I've got about 4 dozen rods for specific applications. This definitely saves precious time when the situation suddenly changes. I find it difficult to concentrate on tying a knot after a big bass has just jumped near me or I see it swirling the water. Having the right rod with the right lure already tied on is a great way of increasing the probability of presenting that lure to that fish before it swims off.

Roland I am glad you mentioned those quick clips, they are essential if you are only going to have a few rods! I wondered for a while if the bass would notice the clip but the only downside of them is they can catch some extra grass but they still catch loads of fish with them. I use the small ones you have there and the ones with the barrel swivel as well, love quick switching.

Thats why I like building rods. You find that you can use multiple baits on one blank you like but as you said about the cover your fishing you can have the next power up. Like MHX blanks for instance- MB873 is a 7'3 med heavy fast action but they have the MB874 same blank diferent power 7'3 heavy, same with a MB875 7'3 xheavy. Great video. Love the knowledge you share. I also run 65lb braid on my frog rod but never on my worm rods like I've seen you do. Going to try that and see if I have more success 👍

Roland, seeing this makes me so happy. I just started fishing again after a lifetime lay off... I fished from 18 to 30 and didn't fish again till this year and I'm 73 now. Started again about 6 months ago. Everything I saw said no one was using Snap swivels. I always did years and years ago but was strying to stop and was wearing myself out using braid a fluoro leader and retying every time I wanted to switch lures. I've got a bunch of rod and reels already. My fav. was a 6 ft rod, with a Shimano Metanium MGL. So maybe I'll bull the braid off or at least I an put a snap swivel on my leader and use it for multiple lures. Might even switch back to mono which is what I used back in the 60's and 70's. Now because I'm always on the bank, I have a lot of 6 ft rods. So I think I'll keep the Metanium MGL and the 6 ft.

I still use snap swivels on a lot of my crank baits . The problem I'm running into now is they are very poorly made and fall apart. So I have been tying more and more onto the line. I have recently seen those snaps Roland is talking about and will be giving them a try this spring. Pretty much if Roland and Bill Dance say give it a try then that's what I do because the student is never as good as the master. Thanks Roland.

Roland how come U never seem to use a swim bait more. I am a little older than u and always used your advise on fishing thanks. I was on a business trip I picked up a magazine and I read a story about a crank bait called the big O. I bought one in Memphis and showed Louisiana the first crank bait on False River. Grew up fishing salt water and when I moved to BR started loving bass fishing and Tournament fishing. About 30 years ago I took my family to Toledo Bend being new to big time bass fishing we had bought a ton of new baits. My middle son who is the luckiest fisherman picks up a salt bait we left on rod with a sassy shad and U know the story. Could have been first swim bait those bass saw.

You mentioned my home river, the Potomac!...I remember back in the day when you went up river during a tournament and jigged bridge pilings up by DC for smallmouth and almost won!...I love your videos Roland...You’re a national treasure.

I just moved to the Potomac area! What sort of jig were you using and what time of year was it? I've never fished bridge pilings for smallies but would love to try it out. If you're interested, I've been posting some videos from the Potomac and surrounding area!
