- Pop quiz hot shot: What’s the best action movie of the past 20 or 30 years that never received a cinematic sequel? Nope, it’s not Speed. Is it Wanted? Nobody? The Accountant? How about Knight and Day or American Made? While the latter comes from director Doug Liman, we’d argue that the correct answer is Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Liman’s eminently watchable assassin thriller that continues to shine thanks to the explosive chemistry between Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, two luminous movie stars who met and fell in love during production. Although the movie earned decent reviews and grossed nearly half a billion dollars worldwide, Mr. & Mrs. Smith never received an official sequel or cinematic spinoff and is often remembered for the juicy tabloid gossip surrounding its two superstars.
Yet, in 2024, a small-screen adaptation of Liman’s hit action flick has been produced by Amazon Prime Video, introducing a whole new generation of viewers to the romantic spy drama. As such, it’s only fitting to take a look back at the production history of Mr. & Mrs. Smith. After all, the script began as a student project and was later accused of plagiarism, several different endings were filmed, a super steamy sex scene was removed to avoid an R-rating, and perhaps most fascinating, Pitt and Jolie nearly did not star in the movie together. I have never heard it pronounced like that. Like, it takes effort to screw up *that* bad. How does one go their whole life without hearing the pronunciation?
And you have to actively avoid reading how it is written. Honestly quite impressive.
How can you do this much research for a video and then get a simple pronunciation of a global city that wrong?

He even plays footage of the word Bogotá, with the accent on the A! I think it was a purposeful mistake to get people to comment. Comments are good for the algorithm. JoBlo vidoes are rife with mistakes like that.

12:36 Hate to be the 'achtually' guy here, but actually in the Amazon show the two characters know from the start they work for the agency and are both new spy / assassin agents who are teamed up with each other. They are not really married, but have to find a way to believably fake it as part of their cover.
I saw this in the theater and very much enjoy it till this day. Upon first watching, INSTINCTIVELY felt that their chemistry was incredibly undeniable.

Brad and Angelina's relationship only adds to the action and charming premise. Vince Vaughan was hilarious in the movie.
Almost two decades later, and this movie is mostly remembered for Brad ending his marriage with Jennifer Aniston to be with Angelina.

It's been a long time since I've watched it, but I honestly didn't see why it was a big deal. It was alright I guess.
Good researched video but the pronunciation of Bogotah is weird as noted by others and also you stated it was Angelina's first mark. Well you'd know from a scene later on in the movie she has more kills then Brad.
One of the spy couple movie that i still love to rewatch and it still good like the first time i watch it. Been wandering why it got no sequel. Now i know. Sad that we cant never get it
Be careful what you wish for. Be happy with what you have, enjoy it, and the memories of it. Do not be so quick to add to them with sequels, or change them with remakes. This blind "I've got to have more!" attitude is how we got all the garbage sequels we have today. Be a VIEWER of movies, do not CONSUME them. When it gets to the point you are merely consuming movies, you've got a malfunction.

I enjoyed this film mostly for its action scenes. Personally, I think it would've been better if there's a central villain and the Smiths somehow saves the world from said villain.

He says it because he wasn't trying to shoot his gun, but it goes off as he falls through the fence and nearly hits Angelina as she is driving toward him in the car which makes her think he is seriously out to kill her when he isn't.

Have a really good friend from college that liked this movie as much as me and we'd watch about once a month. Turns out we were watching for different reasons. I was watching for Angelina (so fuggin hot) and... Well... He was watching for Brad. I had no idea at the time, but his white Firebird convertible and his penchant for full volume Beyonce shoulda clued me in lol. We still laugh about it.

I re-watched this a year or two ago and ending is what throws you. It just stops without concluding anything, just it see them back at the marriage counsellor. Still a good watch up to that point.

True Lies, Atomic Blonde, Bullet Train, Leon/the Professional, Demolition Man, Dredd, Alita Battle Angel, Con Air, the Last Boy Scout (just over the 30 year mark...), the Long Kiss Goodnight, Flash Point, Hot Fuzz (does Hot Fuzz count, it's also quite a lot of Comedy...), Daylight and Cliffhanger, Behind Enemy Lines, Enemy of the State, hmmm, I can't seem to think of any from the 2000's... there must have been something... ooo Jet li, duh... Romeo Must Die, Kiss of the Dragon, Unleashed...
Mostly True Lies, despite many others being my favourites and no doubt many other peoples favourites... True Lies, I think, is objectively one of the best Action movies ever made.
There are probably a lot of other that only I really like, like the Last Man Standing, the Man from U.N.C.L.E., Face/Off, Shoot 'em Up... And many I can't think of right now.

The 2024 Mr & Mrs Smith tv show is terrible, it has hardly anything to do with the way the movie portrays the two characters and for the most part is boring. But hey, if JoBlo like it then power to them I guess, lol.
But it's a direct copy of the 1940s movie though!! The plot is different but the premise is identical, a boring suburban couple who are both spies unbeknownst to each other. How can anyone claim the idea after that since it had existed for 40 to 50 years before this was made

For me, "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" was the movie that I got confused with "Fun with Dick and Jane." They just felt like very similar movies to me as a kid.

Regarding the lack of chemistry, that was literally the whole point. They were two awkward people thrown into an awkward situation, but had to "be" married. Of course they didn't have chemistry.
@@rodneycooperjr3223 with that being stated... It still seems Force when they are on screen. You can have lack of chemistry with someone as the meaning behind a the role and yet still have it not feeling forced when you're on screen.
