Great tool. I have a 5.9 Dakota, where the clutch has been locking-up, in hot weather, on start-up. I will the buy the kit. May not need it, for another 19 years. Tanks, for video, very informative and better than a hammer & 36 mm wrench.
This was the most helpful and well produced video I have seen to removed the fan clutch. This will save tons of time. Very well understood and shown so anyone can accomplish this. Thank you, my friend.
Maybe this little tip may help others that see this video. Most people looking at this video won't have an air compressor or nice specific tools like that as they are only going to do the one job! There should be plenty enough tension already on the water pump pulley with the belt still on. Place your fan wrench on and give it a few short but sharp strikes with a soft hammer or a ball peen hammer. The repeated quick sharp taps will in "most" cases free the fan nut from the water pump and the fan nut should then be simple to undo by rotating the entire fan/clutch assembly. Remove the fan and clutch. Remove the belt and service/replace the water pump as needed. Reverse the procedure to re-install. Add some anti-seize to the pump threads and install the fan and clutch. Hand snug the fan clutch nut and use the wrench by giving it a few quick strikes the lock it tight! Oh and just one more thing. You don't absolutely need a special wrench. A proper sized box wrench or a larger adjustable wrench will work very well! Cheers
Now that is the slickest way I seen it done thank you so much for sharing this info I always do it the hard way trying to hold the pulley with something and pipe wrench on the nut very awesome you the man
Just a hint: Some fan clutches are left hand thread. Many cars have it marked on the fan shroud if it is. You can also look at the new fan clutch to see the thread.
Thanks for the video. Just did this replacement. FYI the water pump pulley was slipping on the belt so I put a big c clamp around it and the belt to hold it. Worked great.
Best one I saw is a short piece of chain around one of the pulley bolts and a nearby bolt, so the pulley can't turn. Then put a big wrench on, after a little WD 40 soak and kit the wrench with a hammer if normal force won't work. Pulling hard, or a pipe on the wrench is recommended before hitting a wrench with a hammer.
Having the right tools for the job always makes it way much easier, I had to learn the hard way lol great video brother and keep up the good work god bless.
Thanks for the vid! I was scratching my head over getting the fan off my Jeep without messing around or fucking stuff up. For a weekend mechanic, Matco would be overkill just to do my jeep. All I need is one wrench size. With some googling, Amazon came up with a single Lisle wrench head in the size I need, bar, and IR impact hammer all in one package for like 100 bucks. I've been needing a decent impact hammer anyway for other stuff.
I guess im asking randomly but does any of you know of a trick to get back into an Instagram account..? I somehow lost my login password. I appreciate any tricks you can offer me.
@Tripp Justice i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site thru google and im waiting for the hacking stuff atm. Takes quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
I will be replacing my clutch fan with a electric fan. When I remove it do I need to put any kind of nut back on or anything else if its not being replaced ? Thank you Joe
If you have the air hammer and compressor but not the 36mm wrench and bar just grind a bit to a sharp point. SeT it on the left side of the nut and TAP the trigger to make an indentation. Do not pull the trigger and hold it! Once you have an indentation lean the hammer to your right with the bit in the indentation. TAP the trigger. The nut is loose.
Will it hurt anything if you turn it clockwise when aligning nut and tightening? My 5.4 idles rough now, hoping it did not jump time. Its important not to rotate backwards when tightening.
2010 colorado..trying to get fan clutch off..I took the 4 bolts off...will the clutch come off or does a bolt need to be on there to prevent something from spinning ?
I'm encourage now, I'm changing my water pump, it's to expensive to get someone to do it, I used to worked on cars but since I lost my sight I have not done any work what so ever, now that I can see better; m doing this, any who thank you
I was wondering about when you take your fan clutch off do you need to stand it up or lay it down because I was always told to stand it up because fluid inside the fan clutch would mess up, is that right?
Question: if I don't replace the water pump right away what other damage can occur to the engine it over heats pass the half way mark but not to the red, 95 dodge ram 1500.
going through the same problem right now with my 2500. definitely get that taken care of asap, especially if adding coolant to the radiator isn't working anymore. there's a good chrysler waterpump video on youtube if you search your year and model.
I have the 36mm Wrench and a Air Hammer and a impact wrench but where did you get the bar to hook into the end of the 36mm wrench? Is this special wrench and Bar in a kit that allows you torque like that? Please tell me what kind of kit that was and where can I buy one?
I dont know man. I guess im poor. Huge cresent wrench and a 3lb hammer. Make sure your going the correct direction. Keep tapping, the shock will break it loose. For me, everytime. No, I don't remove the belt till its off. I can imagine if you dont know what your doin you could really f things up doing this but maybe ive just been lucky
Yeah, I mean, that may be a great investment when you have a business, expense account, and when time is money. But for us at home, a wrench and hammer will certainly do. I plan to borrow the tool from the car store though...or maybe I will just buy the crescent wrench🤔
So u don't need a tool to hold the nuts and keep it from spining? Will thins work with a 20 year old never replace water pump rusted and what the min size psi and air tank for this tool
Thank you please like, share, and subscribe, also please check out my other channel Salem Taxi, on UA-cam for more material on a different level. remove it with the fan
I have a 95 ford e150 I can't find a wrench to fit in there it's a 1 5/8ths any ideas how to get it off? Can i just take the entire water pump off without removing fan?
Hmmm...$220 for a matco removal tool, or $70 for a brand new fan assembly 🤔....I can see if you use them everyday, but not for somebody watching UA-cam videos to fix their stuff
You still have to take it off. I am trying to replace a fan clutch on a Ranger and I don't think there is another way to do this. I agree its a lot of money in tools but that's how one ends up with so many tools.

My words exactly! He's a natural teacher.

What if there's no belt to hold the pulley tight?
Thanks man

Where do I get this tool?
Thank you
Good job
Hey, can I get a link to that tool that you used with air attachment, please?

Where can you get these tools local and for a reasonable price? You know if harbor freight sells any of these?
Thank you for the video.
You're welcome Thanks for the visit please subscribe
I believe that the 5.4 not a 5.7
Cool!
I was wondering about when you take your fan clutch off do you need to stand it up or lay it down because I was always told to stand it up because fluid inside the fan clutch would mess up, is that right?

Don't buy it off the matco tool truck for more $$$. It a rebranded Lisle 43300.
where did you get that tool from?
matco tools, and i think i seen one on ebay
Sweet 👍
Question: if I don't replace the water pump right away what other damage can occur to the engine it over heats pass the half way mark but not to the red, 95 dodge ram 1500.
over heating of an engine causes early death. save the money fix the problem while its cheap and simple
going through the same problem right now with my 2500. definitely get that taken care of asap, especially if adding coolant to the radiator isn't working anymore. there's a good chrysler waterpump video on youtube if you search your year and model.
Is the air tool an air chisel or an impact wrench.
air hammer
You can use a pipe wrench as well with a cheater bar.
Thanks for the visit please subscribe
Hammer and wrench works good for me.
Thank God mine just came off easy with a wrench
I have the 36mm Wrench and a Air Hammer and a impact wrench but where did you get the bar to hook into the end of the 36mm wrench? Is this special wrench and Bar in a kit that allows you torque like that? Please tell me what kind of kit that was and where can I buy one?
air hammer fan clutch removal tool
Great tool. I need one
check out matco tools or try e bay
I think Lisle makes the tool or a kit with more sizes.
Lisle 43300
I dont know man. I guess im poor. Huge cresent wrench and a 3lb hammer. Make sure your going the correct direction. Keep tapping, the shock will break it loose. For me, everytime.

I was wondering about the spinning too
Yea the threaded part broke off in my clutch fan when I took mine off
Yeah that why the sell the pump with the clutch installed
Nice.
Nope just rounded the nut 😂
Could you, or anyone, tell me how to get just the fan shroud off only. I having a hell of a time trying to, and I see you did it.😳
Thank you please like, share, and subscribe, also please check out my other channel Salem Taxi, on UA-cam for more material on a different level.
remove it with the fan
Mate I'm from Australia and would love to know if I can get that tool ??
try e bay, Thanks for the visit please subscribe
Love that accent!
Normal people dont have an air gun. Mechanics have them and mechanics dont need instructional videos on how to use them.
THANKS FOR WATCHING !!!! Please like share and subscribe, also check my other channel, Salem Taxi on YOU TUBE . Thanks.
Is that an air hammer/chisel or an impact wrench?
hammer
5.4
Would it work on a Dodge ram 1500
What if your fan wobbles back and forth like it's loose what is the problem
Bearing inside the clutch is bad.
Can a Non-Air Cordless Impact Wrench be used with this tool?
Thanks for the visit please subscribe
Nice video! By the way, the spider in the fan fin should be very dizzy...
You're right!
Its not an air gun its an air hammer. As an A1 tech I hate when tools aren't called the correct names.
I have a 95 ford e150 I can't find a wrench to fit in there it's a 1 5/8ths any ideas how to get it off? Can i just take the entire water pump off without removing fan?
Is the 1 5/8 wrench too tight or loose on the bolt, might be a metric
Nice
Excellent.
Thanks for the visit please subscribe
Pneumatic hammer
Can't get it to break loose
Dude u just blow my mind! we end using torch and air hammer took us 2 nighters 😂😂😂 thank u!!!🤙🏼
Me too

Bro just let it drop
Why does my clutch fan still sounds like a airplane taking off even after replacing it. ???
Ralph Lugo It’s probably a heavy duty fan clutch
possibly a bad part.
5.4L ....
The Maddox fan clutch kit from harbor freight does not include the right size for 4.9l Ford,,,,just so you know,,,
Leave the belt on use a cresent wrench and a dead blow hammer wack that bia 😂 been doing it for years before these MacGyver tools kits came out
Straight up🤣🤣🤣🤣
did that when i was younger, now i have money to do the hard work for me. Thanks for the visit please subscribe
That air gun as you call it.. is actually an impact driver
Thanks for the visit please subscribe
actually its called a air hammer.
If I can fix it for fitty bucks was a person 😆
So as it appears im a dumbass 20 year old do you know any methods with the pump and fan already off the vehicle
Never seen a 5.7L navigator lmao
maybe the owner put a stroker kit in it.
Your from Winston Salem I know you
