The “Helicopter taking off sound” is 100% what’s wrong with my truck. Thanks so so much
How does Scotty Kilmer have 4 million Subs? This is way more helpful and they sell the product for the video . The internet is a weird place ! Good job guys !
Bad fan clutch will cause high head pressure in your AC...or cause it to not blow cold idling at the light..
Ive learned so much from Len. Thank you for these videos! They are great for us beginner diyers who are leaning.

learned a lot. currently dealing with my 1997 dodge b3500 van, purchased it as a work van. overheating problem of course, replace the thermostat, thermostat house both radiator hose, the radiator, coolant temp sensor, did a coolant flush and still over heating. didnt think of the fan clutch but i will be replacing tomorrow
did the clutch fix your overheating problem?
Just replaced it on my dad's 2003 Silverado 6.0. Surprisingly it was causing the vehicle catastrophic loss of power. Replaced it and Ta-Da!

Great video. I've got a 5.7 that won't reach operating temp. It's winter in the mountains. The truck still blows hot air but won't fully get to temp. I've replaced the t-stat and ECT sensor. Tomorrow I'll dive into the fan clutch. Hopefully that is the issue. Thank you for the in-depth video.
Okay, late to the game but the problem you mentioned @6:08 just started happening to me. Over the past week this has been happening more and more. I have a 2007 Chevy Colorado and this happens every time I step on the gas, it doesn't matter what temp the motor is. So here's my question:
If there's no "wobble" in the fan blade and it doesn't spin freely when turned by hand, can it still be a bad clutch?
Love watching the motivation of every video.

I just replaced my water pump along with the fan and fan clutch. Before I swapped them it was not sounding like a helicopter after I changed everything to new it started sounding like a helicopter after I hit high speed the fan noise goes away but once I’m back in town/city I can hear the fan again any idea why? Thanks In advance.
Also non thermal have speed driven. When idling they are more engaged. And when rpm are higher they disengage. The fan assumes your driving.
+madog Thanks for the feedback!
Thanks my friend you just diagnosed my fan.
I replaced my water pump the gaskets and thermostat as well as the heater hose connectors because it was leaking coolant and it would over heat, but my truck no longer leaks coolant but over heats if I run the ac and I’m idling in a drive thru or idling for more than 35-40 min will not if I’m driving. I really hope a fan clutch will because I have to rev it up to cool down.
Did the new fan clutch fix your issue?
Would a bad fan clutch on a 2005 Dodge Dakota SLT 4.7.L cause the engine to run hot driving up hill for extended periods until it gets back to level ground ? .
My truck only begins climbing in temp from 49% on the temp gauge to approx 80% when driving up hill. But when I get to level surface the engine temp goes back down to the mid range on the temp gauge ...any input would be greatly appreciated 👍
I have a 2005 Hummer H2 I’m in the process of doing an E fan conversion because I have the clutch fan and it really sucks I live in California and it’s always hot where I live at idle my AC doesn’t blow cold that’s one of the reasons why I’m doing the fan conversion. It’s super easy I’m doing GM factory E fans, with a harness and tune. That simple.
Hi. I got a new fan clutch for my motor I put in my truck . can't find the right fan blade for it can you help. The fan clutch is 2705, and I need a 17" blade to bolt to it
Thank you for the informative videos. I'm learning mucho. Is an air chisel the same as an air hammer?
I like everything the way you explain it like everything the way you explain it it seems pretty detailed
Very comprehensive and detailed. Ty!!!

Hi Lynn I just put a fan clutch on a 60 motor in a box van I don't know what you would call it but it's a box van and I put a new fan clutch on a new fan and a new thermostat problem with the temperature going up to say 250 no signs of overheating through the water system I don't know what's wrong could you give me some advice
I have a 2010 1500 chevy express conversation van with 5.3 it sounds like a blower with a hesitation acceleration I would like to know what would it be thanks
Lol had this out on my 03 GMC Yukon for a year just now went in to figure it out
Another feature about fan clutches is that some are reverse and you need to get the correct one for your vehicle as I recently learned when I bought the wrong one for my 2001 dodge ram. The new one spun on like crazy when the engine was shut down; it should stop with the engine on shutdown. I had to go back to the old one which turned out to be working correctly ...stopping with the engine shut down
+Carl ODonnell Thanks for the feedback!
Are all clutch fan activate at the same degree ?
Just in process of change fan clutch on 2011 Dakota. Question does cold temp affect the clutch fluid? This morning the outside temp is -20C.
Hi I recently replaced my water pump, couple hoses and the fan clutch, cleaned the fan blades off. Every morning on a cold start the fan clutch stays engaged. Even if I let it sit for about 4 minutes, the vehicle temperature has not moved much and when I drive off it is still engaged. Until I reach a certain RPM then it will disengage. We had a really cold day and it still did the same thing, it was engaged as soon as I started the vehicle. Even if the vehicle sits for about 5 minutes it is still engaged and still engaged as I drive off, but then once I reach a certain RPM it will disengage and the vehicle is only maybe 120° on the thermostat, I replace the thermostat as well but it's also running 10° colder than what it usually does, instead of 195 it only runs about 175 on really cold days, maybe 185 and it is supposed to be 195° thermostat. It was a Murray fan clutch and I think it is bad, I don't think that it should stay engaged especially when it's 26° out, and the vehicle is not even warm or heated up, what is your opinion

Thanks for sharing such information.... can't wait to watch your video on the electrical fan..
+Mahmoud Al Shawi Thanks for checking us out! 1AAuto.com
Thanks man! you mentioned Running Hot. What about engine running cold? Also feels like vehicle is Sluggish ( 2015 Grand cherokee).
Replaced Thermostat, now considering replacing Coolant temperature sensor. Also noticed the fan does not come on...
This video is very good BIG PP 👍
Anytime Dixie! We are glad you enjoyed it.
So my fan clutch spins as soon as i start the truck, and it takes about 5 seconds to stop fully. Does that mean the clutch is done? Does that mean its cooked? Will spin freely
Thank you so much! You are the best!
Thanks for the video mate. I have pajero 97. Got heating problem twice. First time did raditor servicing. Thought it solved but another over heating occured. Found water jacket freeze plug blew up leaking all the coolant. My mechanic was telling the fan clutch has problem too, its been connected directly without the clutch. Thats how i landed here. So as per your video the fan is running 30-60 percent less speed than the pulley since it was connected directly without pulley right? Also will it have effect on AC as well?
My ford econovan 94 is overheating „Slightly“ only up the hill or on the highway. Changed the thermostat and did a radiator flush. Someone was giving me the Tipp to change the fan clutch. But in every video ppl say that it would then overheat in traffic and stop and go. My car does not do that. Does that sound more like a hunker up radiator?
So if i rev up my engine (5.3) and the fan clutch spins faster it's logically no good? Because as i rev it up the fan spins a lot faster making the engine cooler.
perfect video
Good explanation/information.
Fan and pulley have the wobbling going on, my water pump is bad. Should i replace the fan clutch as well?
I didn't know the fan clutch controls the heat in the winter time. No wonder my heater stopped working
2004 sprinter 2.7 fan very hard to turn, hot or cold, no air noise and no overheating, thoughts ?
Thanks for the instructions
i currently have no fan clutch on my cuda's 340. If i install one, will this bring my fan closer to the radiator and set deeper into the shroud? are we talking an inch or two if so? TIA
Thank you. I did learn something !
Question sir if I put Fan Clutch
Than I can remove regular fan from car or it's has b keep both
I have a fan clutch on a 95 ford f150 with the 5.0 I replaced the thermostat, the heater core and water pump but when I start it up when cold it sounds like a fan is engaging and not engaging can you help could it be the fan clutch because I can’t get it to heat up at all? Need help!
Nissan Titans have a huge issue with these failing.
I hava a 2003 Chevy blazer that I just replaced radiator and thermostat right after that I got a p1481 code fan clutch seem to be fine , any ideas what could be wrong
My 2011 ram 1500 4.7 radiator cooling fan stays on and only turn off when I turn off ac however not sure if fan clutch is the problem as well my engine temperature stays between 201° and 206 ° idle at 208° hasn't run hot yet and not try to go there
DO A WHAT IS A SERIES PLEASE I AM AT AUTOMECHANIC SCHOOL HELP ME LEARN EVERYTHING
I have an 03 trailblazer with an electro-viscous fan clutch that has given me nothing but problems. Fixed the wiring and a bad ground but it still fails at times.
Would it be possible to replace it with a thermal fan clutch with the exact same measurements, nut and bolt pattern?
Ex-specially
Mate, thank you.. great detail in your vid.. appreciate it.
2003 Dodge ram 1504.7 engine I change the fan clutch out twice brand new from AutoZone the first one sounded like a jet the second time sounded not too much like a jet but it was still there that sound I changed it one day The next day I changed it again and still does the same I put my old one back on ran quiet so I’m going to put another new one on again but is there a special one easy job the confusing the sound
Looks like I have overcooling. Operating temperature of my vehicle is 198 to 220F, I've noticed it stays in between 180 and 188F. I'm suspecting that fan clutch spins all the time.
what happens when you fix your thermal clutch fan by weld so that the fan goes faster as you rev up the engine. is it advisable to permanent fix the fan ?
Question. Why would a 2010 Jeep Liberty have a fan clutch and a 2012 no fan clutch and both have same engine??? I don’t understand
Greetings All, recently i bought Lexuz GX460 and as you know it is clutch based cooling fans. I think they are taking alot from the engine power + they are noisy, hence i am thinking of replacing them with a good electrical based cooling fans. What do you think? Dows the clutch fans provide more cooling than the electrical as the engine ramp up more or the electrical fans would be better in all aspects? I know the clutch is more reliable in some points as you are not relying in alternator and so on but i really hate them despite my car is really new, any advice please.
Could this be a possible reason to why my ac doesn’t blow cold on idle? It only blows cold when I’m driving
Very likely.
Maybe your radiator and condenser coil is dirty. You should wash it your radiator and condenser once in a while.
is it safe to use a car with removed clutch fan
Very useful video. Thanks.

How much silicon oil in the fan clutch inside
👍thank you very good information
Damn I didn’t even know there was a tool I been using the air hammer
Hello
Thanks for the great video!
What if the fan this type after starting the car engine while still cold, before the thermostat opens start engaging/kicks in for a few seconds and goes back to normal rpm, What that means?

Appreciate the knowledge.
The part at the end when you say if you keep driving it like this you can damage your transmission???? How?
Thanks for the info!
My engine sounds like a airplane still!
New fan
New thermostat
Coolant
Radiator good!
Whats going on 😔😔😔😔
Did you ever found the solution! Going thru this at the moment
What about if the fan spins freely
Good day Interesting video. Thanks
Glad to hear it Don!
Just subcribed
Thanks for the vid! Just put a new thermal fan clutch on my 1985 dodge D250 360 v8. Fan was constantly spinning even on cold engine and never reached operating temp so I figured the clutch was shot. New fan clutch on and still the same issue (the fan does mount directly onto the water pump pulley). Constantly runs and only ever reaches 1/4 of the way up my temp gauge instead of sitting at 1/2. What’s my next step?
Thermostat
I love it you explaine#it well
What was wrong with just a fan hooked to the water pump just may take the motor longer to warm up.better than another part to malfunction and still overheat.
I have a 2007 ram with 5.9 cummins my fan clutch always makes that loud wooosh noise only when ac is on it never disengages if turn ac off i can here my engine ...
What are the symptoms of the ac when the fan clutch is not working properly

What if you have both electric fan and a clutch fan? Can you delete the clutch fan? I have a 02 jeep liberty limited edition 3.7l
I have a 2006 ram 1500 with both an electric fan and a clutch fan. For my truck the electric fan serves only the AC condenser and doesn’t work to cool the engine. Best to leave them both in there 👍
Good information. Thank you 👍
How do i know if i need to replace the clutch or the fan blades themselves? My blades keep rubbing the shroud and im not sure which to replace
+Daniel Andrade Spin the fan as hard as you can on an engine that has not been started that day. If the fan rotates more than five times, you can bet the clutch is bad. You should feel some resistance and the fan may spin up to three times, depending on the ambient temperature.
Mine is going all the time and my rad stays cold so my bottom stat won't stay open for longer than 5 seconds I have gone through 5 rads in 5 years they keep bursting I don't think it is circulating through rad coz cold water in rad shuts stat too quick is thermal fan suposose to be spinning all time
Thanks! Great info!
