2005 Envoy 4.2 with 214k miles. I just did this and that nut on the fan clutch is a real bear! 😊 I used those same tools posted in this video, the rented water pump nut holder and the crescent wrench, NOTE I also had a nice breaker bar that I could slip over the crescent wrench. It took every bit of my 260# fat ass to break that bolt loose! I also have the v-cut on the shroud just under the radiator hose . Makes this so easy to not have to drain the coolant and to not ding those radiator fins. I also used a transfer pump to pump out the top part of coolant, makes it much less messy when you take off the hose- only took off the hose from the radiator and spun the other end out of the way . I was able to pull the whole shroud, fan blades and fan clutch out in one easy piece. You have to gently wiggle it out, making sure your pop out the transmission cooler lines. Made the removal of the old fan clutch so easy and easy to put the new one in with it all out and working on the bench. I also took the clip off of the electric connector just to the right of the radiator hose(dont know what its called) so not to hit it when loosening nut on fan clutch and it provides a bit more room when pulling out the shroud. I also bought the same fan clutch from Amazon, so far so good. On initial start up it was a bit loud on fan noise and pushing a lot of air as you showed in video but calms right. Thanks Kevin for posting , I wanted to share my experience, maybe help others in same boat. 😊

    STOP!!! READ THIS!!
Apparently, the electrical connector for the fan clutch on these Trailblazers is extremely sensitive. Any little bit of a loose connection can cause arching that will interfere with the computers ability to accurately read data from the fan clutch. Such as temp, and rpm of the fan clutch. This can cause a whlole host of problems, it can even put your Trailblazer into reduced engine power mode. The fix for this is very simple. Disconnect the fan clutch electrical connector. Spray the connectors with a generous amount of electronic cleaner using the provided straw on the can. Let it dry for about 5 minutes. Take some dielectric grease and fill the fan clutch connector full of the dielectric grease (the connector with the straight pins). Plug the connector back in firmly. This will prevent arching and provide a more firm and just over all better connection. It will also prevent moisture from creeping into the connector which can make problems worse. I replaced my fan clutch and about a year later it started giving problems, even the reduced engine power mode. I did this to the connector and so far no more issues. This is definitely worth a try before doing anything else. I have wondered how many people have changed out the fan clutch on these Trailblazers when all that was really wrong was a bad connection? If this helps you let me know.

I should have made this tool after the first water pump! Cuz I tried several other ways and the fact this is the 4th water pump the bolts on the pulley shroud are rounding off more each time…so sick of these junk vehicles..even when they were new they had so many problems…im curious how many water pumps this thing has had since new…it’s ridiculous these car manufacturers aren’t even worried about quality anymore! I had a dodge stratus with the condemned 2.7l v6 in it that I had almost no issues with for the 100,000 miles I had it! And it’s demonized for the internal water pump issue !! Come on Chevy! I don't believe that the TB/Envoy's have a drain valve in the radiator either so you have to pull the lower hose or use some extraction method.
Thanks for the video, that is an interesting design in that clutch being electro-viscous and I believe they are somewhat failure prone.

Eric, you are correct about the absence of a drain valve. One thing I learned after making the video is you can also remove the upper radiator brace to be able to move the radiator towards the front of the car a little.
