  • I prefer to quilt using a treadle because I feel like I have more control over the speed and I just love sewing with treadles. Using my 1906 Singer 31-20 Tailor's Industrial treadle machine here because I have more harp space. I was lamenting on a treadle forum that I wish I could treadle quilt using the frame and a fellow treadler posted an old historical photo (Kentucky Historical Society photo) of a woman treadle quilting on a frame (thanks DL!!!), so decided to try it on my small Flynn Quilting Frame. Works great! You need a good size room and lots of table space to do this. I think it would work with a large quilt, but would really require a lot of space. This is just a small (approximately 44" wide) frame. Should also work with smaller machines, but they limit the quilting area, which I found a bit discouraging.
