I tried the pool noodle basting method today and it worked like a charm. Before I knew it I was finished on a lap quilt I am making for my granddaughter. Will be using this method from now on. Thank you so much for the video.

Love how you get right to the point without all the intro chitchat!. I have used the noodles twice and still working on getting it smooth. You make it look so easy. I use cans from my pantry to keep the noodles from rolling. Like the pool noodle on the table. Will have to try it. Thank you for the info on the right and wrong side of the batting. I guess I have been lucky and got it right by accident on all but one quilt. NOW I know why the batting was poking through the fabric after quilting. THANK YOU! WE can still dream of that huge table in our home to do this on. No more floors for me!!

I no longer quilt large quilts so when I saw this I discussed it with my husband. Instead of using pool noodles, my husband sanded down two lengths of lumber about 3 1/2 inches wide by 60 inches long and I use them to wrap the top, batting, and backing. I pin every few inches and then roll out a few more inches and pin baste some more. It works beautifully. So thanks for the idea.

Wow! Tracy, so glad I saw this! My 80-year old knees and hips hate getting down on the floor, and hate even more getting up! Floor basting is one reason I usually send my quilts to the long-arm quilter, who does that part. This will make quilting my own so much easier, and it will save me money! I really enjoyed your tutorial, which was easy to understand, and you didn't have any extra time-wasting "chit chat" or. annoying music. I gave you a "thumbs up" and subscribed; looking forward to more of your videos!

❤❤❤❤ I’m 79 and still am excited to learn new methods. I’ve known about people using pool noodles, but never saw a good demonstration until your video. 😊 I’m eager to try it. You were ingenious to join two together like a male and female plug PLUS the tape! And the way you set up for machine quilting-you rock in that department!! The “necklace” to help support the part in front of you-now that is super-Genius! Adding quilt batting and then the Minky-so smart. I love how you describe the feel of it. I can’t wait to see the video of your husband opening this gift. He will love it not just because you made it, but because you customized it just for him. ❤❤❤❤❤

Thumbs up and subscribed. Thank you so much. I have 2 unfinished quilt tops because of the dreaded lack of space and puckered quilt backs. I used to borrow a quilt store classroom but many store owners retired and closed shop over the years. And who knew there was a right and wrong side to batting...you did! Learned on another channel about little templates for home quilting. Today has been a game changer. I must resume quilting.

Yes, years ago I was able to pin baste my quilt at a nearby store when the classroom was not used. One shop of 4 remains and they were too busy. I was able to use the large meeting table at work and spray basted for the first time just folding back and spraying. Took like 3 hours!
The table has curved sides so visibly weird. I wished I had an extra pair of hands. I might try the noodles next time. Not sure if I will spray or go back to pinning.

Love your idea about connecting the pool noodles! I understand about getting down on the floor, I still have to do that, occasionally. Will definitely do this next time!!! One of my biggest problems about getting down on the floor, is trying to get back up!!! LOL! I also love the idea of using sheets for the backing!!!

Thank you Tracey for this tutorial, I’ve have now basted 4 quilts with the pool noodle method and every time I come to the basting I watch your tutorial as a refresher, I didn’t know that there was a top and bottom for the batting either, now you have enlightened me, something I learned today after rolling my Grandsons queen size dinosaur quilt onto the pool noodles, the quilt top and the backing are directional so I had to make sure that before I started basting it that I had the backing matching the direction of the quilt top, lucky that I thought to check on that before hand as I was about to baste the backing upside-down 🤪, and got myself quite confused for a moment, then re-rolled the backing, finally got it right. Now to set up for quilting it. My first sewing experience was when I was seven years old and I wanted to make a dress for my doll, I hounded my poor mum for some material, which she didn’t have as she did not sew, she got so tired of me carrying on she pulled out her Wedding dress which her mother had made and gave me that, which I gleefully began to cut a piece out of, I’m so ashamed that I did that, and my punishment…. I don’t have mums wedding dress that my grandmother made.😔.

    • @TheSewingChannel
      @TheSewingChannel  2 роки тому +2

*_I also get confused when basting a quilt with pool noodles LOL 😂so you're not alone . Don't worry too much about the dress of your mums.....although I can totally relate...years ago when I was in 6th grade my mom made me a dress that I adored at the time and wore with pride....I kept it for a long time but then one day I was "weeding out" some old stuff.......and I gave it to the goodwill.....needless to say...I totally regret doing that...and wish that I hadn't done that....😟At least we can have the memories of the items....💛_*

You are a wonderful, and very thoughful, teaher.
    1. I did not know that there was a right side, and a wrong side, to batting.
    2. I did not know how to join Pool Noodles to makes them long enough to use on large quilts.
    3. I also did not know how to use that spray glue safely. The quilt shop owner, that I bought my can of spray glue from, did not tell any of us (in that class) about how dangerous that can of spray glue may be (after she talked us into buying it). I learned that after I got home with it and took the time to read the label. I've had it for years and have been to scared to use it.
Thank you so much for all this new information. I may learn how guilt better and safer (and suffer less pain while doing it). Please stay safe.

Thank you so much for the video. I, too, remember the days of crawling on the floor to finish basting a quilt. You have wonderful uses for the pool noodles. Can’t wait to stock up on a colorful supply of them for future projects. The utility knife comes in handy for all the unique cuts. ❤️🍀

This is simply amazing!! I love the neat-and-tidy look throughout the whole procedure here in the layering of each piece. This is so easy to do and very structured in laying out and measuring the whole quilt...very very nice! What a superb idea. On my way to buy some noodles. Coming'? LOL!

Thanks for the great tips. I am new to quilting and the noodles make doing a large quilt less intimidating. I am going to try using fusiboo bamboo quilting as spray fusing is too hard on my lungs. I think your noodle trick and the fusible batting will work best for me.

Wow I have been using a table a clip method of sandwiching my quilts. There’s no way I can get down on the floor. I haven’t tried the pool noodle method yet but thanks for the clear and concise demonstration and instructions. You’ve given me hope and inspiration.

BRILLIANT! I've been quilting (traditional methods) for over 30 years and always dread the basting! This is such a clever idea. THANK YOU!
