It's 2024. I have the old wood rail frame in a box which I bought at a Guild auction. The directions are on VHS tape, so I'm glad to find this video! Can't wait to get started using it.

I'm watching 7 years later and I'm wondering how I never heard of this delightful contraption. I repeat the same thing as most or even all of the rest of us in that this is amazing for those of us that don't have space or even the money to purchase fancier machines

I do sewing projects and machine embroidery currently, but when I venture into quilting THIS frame will be the one to get! I like that it can be disassembled and stored compactly verses needing an entire room for a quilt frame! John Flynn is a genius!😁

You make this look so easy. I am using pool noodles and adapting as needed. I can upgrade later if I need more strength. Can't wait to show my mom, 92 years old. Making my present quilt is for a friend with terminal cancer. I am making it in 3 sections, they will be basted together so her family will each be able to have a bed shawl of 58 x 36 inches. Will not make another so long. When you design on the go you work out the details for next time. Quilted my first stitches at age 5 1/2 years old, mom left the stitches in, 56 years ago. Long before my sister's. Thank you so much! I will likely watch repeatedly. You calmness is encouraging with the relaxing music. I will play some good music while quilting.

It didn't come with a CD when I got it.. But I have already sold another one for you as I showed my sister this and she has ordered one and we will be using them both as soon as she gets hers. What a wonderful invention...looks so easy to work with. It's good to see a man quilting, too, btw. My son took quilting in high school as his elective and the teacher praised him as the best student she had that year! I was so proud of him, he had no sewing knowledge at all before this class. The project was a log cabin quilt..we went together and he chose all Hallowe'en fabrics. The woman at the fabric store apparently didn't approve of males quilting and told him his choices were terrible and wouldn't work (her exact words! I was shocked at her attitude!) I nested of arguing with her, we took our material and left. After the quilt was finished, the teacher asked if she could keep it to display in class and use as a sample for future students..my son said thank you, but no as he was giving it to me. I brought the quilt into the fabric store to show that saleswoman, she was speechless. I felt that was the best way to settle her, it did. I don't think she'll criticize young men in the future for wanting to sew!

The song playing in the part of the video where you are putting the wooden pieces on the machine to quilt straight lines reminds me of music that my Father used to play on the guitar. This is an awesome invention that I just happened to come across today by accident in a magazine called Nancy's Notions that got sent in the mail as part of some mailing list freebie or something. I just bought it on amazon a few hours ago and it's already on its way! I'm so excited I can't wait! I've only ever stitched in the ditch for every quilt I've made (mostly wall/lap sized quilts) but I really wanted to free motion quilt the wall sized one I finished and I even made my own template/stencil for a free motion design I wanted to use but I had no way of being able to do it with my home machine very easily given the size of it. Now I can and I won't have to pay someone else to do it like I thought I might. This is awesome because I have the fabric and pattern to make a bed quilt (my own version of the poppy panache pattern using less expensive fabric for the design) but I've been holding off making it until I could finish the wall quilt first and figure out the exact size of my future bed it will go on. Now I can finally start it, soo exciting! Thanks!

starfishgurl1984, how is the quilt frame working for you? I am considering getting one, but I have a sit-down quilting machine, so I would not have the frame on the red roller. It would have to sit directly on the table top. Do you think it would glide around like that? I hope that makes sense.

just came across your video after seeing your frame on Amazon. It is an amazing creation as I am an older sewer who is new to quilting. (actually I am fearful to add quilting given the amount of fabric to cover and mistakes to fix should the fabric bunch up underneath). However I can clearly see what a difference this frame would make to the domestic sewing machine user to be able to tackle the quilting. Well done.

John, My 🐎, my HORSE!! I met you in a Paducah Quilt show years ago. It was the first time I had tried quilting of any type. I sat down at your system and promptly sewed out a horse with its mane blowing in the wind. I was delighted at the ease in which your system worked, especially for a beginner! I have wanted one of your frames ever since. Of course, my sense of vanity makes me wonder if I sparked the idea for the horse and other animals in your video!! I THINK I also drew out a chicken and a pig, but am not positive. The horse, however, I remember distinctly.I plan to order one of your frames next week. First, however, I have a couple of questions. Can you also use a walking foot with the frame? What about a ruler foot and the Westalee rulers? Sincerely, Ellen Novicky

John, an idea for you..... How about inventing 2 roll clips that would clip onto the quilt roll as your thumb and index do. Add a vertical bar to that clip that can be grasped with a fisted grip hold. This would be ergonomic. I have thumb issues. The clip would have to be adjustable like a clamp because the fabric roll on the back(nearest your body) gets smaller as you unroll the quilt.

However you also tack the pieced top onto roller B leader. Then you get to the length end of the quilt do you unpick this 1 inch and carry on quilting? Do you keep this taut with the side clips only? I have followed your instructions, bought 3/4" EMT and have everything ready for mounting. PROBLEM the rod ends you sent will not fit on a 3/4" pipe. Do you have rod ends that will fit my 3/4" pipe??? VERY FRUSTRATED.

I love this idea, but I quilt full size quilts more often than 38" widths. Do you make a frame that will adjust for larger sizes?

You can buy conduit in longer lengths and use that. They just need to be the same diameter as the original pieces.

What did you use to make the edges fray on the rag quilt? It looked like a week eater!!

I am using an industrial machine outfitted for free motion. Is it possible to lower the side tubes since my machine is in the table instead of on it?

And is your machine programmable for quilt stitching designs, true free motion, or drawn by hand with a template?

I'm considering purchasing this.. checked Amazon and they do not have this NEW IMPROVED MULTI-FRAME. Their description says their's will accommodate 38" quilt.. Nancy's Notion's one is larger. Overall it looks like the same price. with shipping at Nancy's and none at Amazon.

Have you thought to use a curved needle to attach the fabrics/batting to leaders.?
