  • In today’s video I will show you how to use differences in quilting density to create additional pattern. In the first step a nine-patch pattern is drawn. In each square we will draw a square on point. They will create our actual pattern. In the second step we will quilt out the outline for our patter and secure the quilt sandwich. Then with simple point to point quilting a space for dense quilting will be defined. We will fill it with small dense swirls. All of it will be done with free motion quilting without a ruler. Small mistakes will happen but at the end nobody will see it. For this exercise you will need about 18 inch square. The details in drawing the pattern are at the end of the video. Have fun

@@quiltingnerd Your tutorial allowed me to see things that a shorter video omits, seeing a work in progress means I get the full picture and not just the highlights 💗

@@mamabear52 And I thank you for this comment! This is exactly what I want to show. Not double speed quilting that gives a false sense of time you need to progress. And I don't like talking too much. I want to share the slow beauty of quilting. it takes time and practice and it is worth it!

I agree. Just love it. How do you baste your quilt sandwich? Do you use a spray? Keep the videos coming please, please, please……

Thank you Mara! I will do my best. Concerning your question, I use safety pins. You need a lot of open space to use the spray. And when I treid it I got at the end a lot of tucks and wrinkels. I prefer to be able to move and adjust my fabric. In the video I relayed on the friction between the fabric and the batting. But one can do it only on small elements.

@@quiltingnerd thanks so much. Yes I am reluctant to use spray as well. I will also persist with pins. Vielen Vielen Dank. Ich wohne jetzt in australien. Ich bin in deutschland geboren. I love your and my quilting.
