I had an abusive father. He was an alcoholic and he was aggressive towards my mother. He used to take me shopping and I could see him steal things. He slapped me once, just ONCE and I go to therapy because I have complex PTSD and depression and every time I go I cry my eyes out just like him. I can’t imagine what my state of mind would be if something like THIS would have happened to me and one of my sisters and I had to say it out loud to so many people. I mean the shame, the confusion, the betrayal of the only people who are supposed to protect you, the identity loss and many other complex emotions. Either I am truly a fool or this man is telling the truth.

I was 5 years old when this happened in 1989. I remember seeing their faces plastered on the national Enquirer and how the media made these two boys into a joke. I always thought THEY were the monsters. But it's becoming clear to me that the parents were the monsters. Obviously two wrongs don't make a right but if this trial happened today, I believe there would have been a very different outcome. After watching this testimony, I believe these boys were abused. The moment at 7:38 when Lyle is asked about what he's done to his brother....oh my god. The look on his face. It's pure devastation, heartbreak, embarrassment and sadness all rolled into one.
They weren't the only ones. Their dad was accused of abusing children who were clients. These guys have done enough time and deserve a second chance. Their emotions seem very sincere.

They were demonized at the time- portrayed as two rich brats that killed their parents in cold blood. It’s unbearable to listen to Lyle’s and Erik’s testimony. It’s unbearable to know this happened and they were forced to relieve every detail. These boys endured h3ll and had to tell the public… how unjust! The jurors that ended up punishing these victims… they were soulless! They never should have been charged… they needed health care and help!!!!

@franci.f. There were a lot of compelling evidence like medical records and statements from family members, the doctor, and a letter written to their cousin months before the murders took place. There were also explicit images of the boys that were presented in the first trial. All of the evidence regarding the abuse was dismissed in the second trial, and they only focused on the murder itself. Roy Rosselló, a former member of the boy band Menudo, claimed he was raped by Jose menendez in the 80s and publicly shared this in a documentary in 2023.

I had an abusive father. He was an alcoholic and he was aggressive towards my mother. He used to take me shopping and I could see him steal things. He slapped me once, just ONCE and I go to therapy because I have complex PTSD and depression and every time I go I cry my eyes out just like him. I can’t imagine what my state of mind would be if something like THIS would have happened to me and one of my sisters and I had to say it out loud to so many people. I mean the shame, the confusion, the betrayal of the only people who are supposed to protect you, the identity loss and many other complex emotions. Either I am truly a fool or this man is telling the truth.
There is no way someone could fake something like this and make it look this believable! They are telling the truth and need to be set free. Im so sorry. I know just the feeling. My dad is an alcoholic, he doesn't physically hurt us but the amount of times he's screamed at us, gaslit, and manipulated us is too many to count. Our abuse is valid too. He hit me once and I never recovered. These poor men need to be free. They were humiliated in that court, being forced to relive their trauma over and over- Forced to endure the humiliation. Their innocence was stripped from them at early ages and they just got fed up. I would've done the same thing in their situation. The Justice system completely failed these two and it's horrifying.

Watching this gave ME trauma. This is deep! Wish there is something I can do. I so want them freed so they can live out the rest of their lives free and happy.

If my child came to me and told me that their father was touching them inappropriately, I would be out of there with my children so freakin' fast and on the phone with a divorce lawyer - sad that both parents were so effed up - neither one of these boys had a chance.
I was 5 years old when this happened in 1989. I remember seeing their faces plastered on the national Enquirer and how the media made these two boys into a joke. I always thought THEY were the monsters. But it's becoming clear to me that the parents were the monsters. Obviously two wrongs don't make a right but if this trial happened today, I believe there would have been a very different outcome.
After watching this testimony, I believe these boys were abused. The moment at 7:38 when Lyle is asked about what he's done to his brother....oh my god. The look on his face. It's pure devastation, heartbreak, embarrassment and sadness all rolled into one.
They weren't the only ones. Their dad was accused of abusing children who were clients. These guys have done enough time and deserve a second chance. Their emotions seem very sincere.

This infuriates me. SNL did skits about this testimony. Lyle was mocked and repeatedly called a liar over and over again. Let's just call a spade a spade. There are times when his testimony veers off into what might be embellishment. Most of the time there is NO DOUBT he is telling the truth! His face turned beet red. You cannot physically force that to happen. He and his brother endured this unspeakable pain and trauma by a controlling and abusive man and a disinterested and probably medicated and drunk woman who was more interested in keeping her man than keeping her kids safe. I've met women like her so I know they exist.
The worst part is that if Jose Menendez had done the same thing to a neighborhood kid and been caught he would have been demonized by the media and put away for many years. But it was HIS kids so it was OK to rape them.
They murdered their parents and that has never been in question. They've served over 30 years in prison. It's time to let actual justice prevail and release them. They are not now and have never been a danger to public safety. They are not now and have never been violent criminals. A hung jury in both cases demonstrated reasonable doubt so the judge changed the rules to get the result his boss wanted. I'm sorry. It's called the justice system why?!

! I’ve been crying every day watching these testimonies. I was in America as a student at San Diego when the boys were tried and convicted (presently live in Mumbai). They were demonized at the time- portrayed as two rich brats that killed their parents in cold blood. But when I had watched them on tv, at the time, I didn’t feel that way- I felt that there was something really wrong here. They looked innocent to me. And now as I watch the case revived in the media, and all the Shorts and UA-cam reels, I relive my youth, as I watch how they lost theirs to the rigged justice system of the time. Free these men, asap. America is looking like a country as archaic and unjust as any so-called backward nation!
