It seems like many people are treating this Netflix series as a completely accurate account of events, when in fact, I believe Ryan Murphy is telling the story from multiple perspectives, not just Erik and Lyle’s. This not only heightens the drama-since it is a drama series-but also encourages viewers to explore the case further, as the differing viewpoints offer vastly contrasting narratives. Ultimately, it's the viewer's responsibility to research the facts themselves and not let a TV show shape their judgment entirely.

It's a trip down memory lane for those of us who were kids in the 90s when this all went down, particularly the OJ Simpson cameo, and the choice of the (overrated) Milli Vanilli hit "I'm Gonna Miss You" for the soundtrack is also a nice bit of symbolism.

This was an egregious miscarriage of justice that the prosecutor limited the evidence of abuse in the second trial. It was abundantly clear those boys were always telling the truth about the abuse. How many victims of one powerful man does it take for the criminal justice system to believe the truth?
Those young boys were failed and I think they shouldn’t be locked up any longer. I think if they were going to have a punishment it should’ve been well over by now. This is coming from a kid who was also physically abused their whole life by their parents. No, I did not hurt my parents, but I understand where those kids are coming from and the cops failed me multiple times how many times I called the cops on my mom, smashing my head into a tile and I was the one being told that I was going to be taken to Juvie because I hit my mom back while she was strangling me. The system does fail children and I absolutely agree what they did to their parents and I’m not gonna lie and anyone who wants to tell me I’m wrong for that. I am coming from where they came from so my opinion is my opinion and I feel as if it’s right and I won’t accept anything else.

I think this series is terribly wrong. Before watching it, I didn't know anything about this case. I’ve been watching your videos since they’ve started and I’ve always felt like you’ve been a reliable source of information. After this reporting I don’t trust that you fully do your research. This video is titled “everything” they got wrong and it doesn’t even graze the amount of misinformation in that show. You pronounce both therapists names wrong and get a simple fact, easily researchable wrong. They did leave the house after the murders. Jesse are you biased on this case or just not putting in the work?
His mispronunciation of Oziel was surprising. It’s pronounced “oh-zeal”. Oziel was responsible for getting the Menendez brothers arrested and subsequently found guilty. You would think Law & Crime would be able to catch his mispronunciation before airing this video.
It’s not true that “they never left”. They said they waited for a while expecting neighbors to have called police and when they didn’t they left to hide the guns and create an alibi.
Not at all. I personally wasn't pushing for their release because of the series. Long before the series even came out or it was even a thought, I was praying, wishing and rooting for them to be released. Since I found out about the sa allegations and read on the topic, I felt appalled for what they were put through. There are many clues that tell us they are telling the truth like Lyle's hair loss. What made me even more keen on this was finding out about what happened to the Menudo member at the hands of Jose Menendez.
To clarify. You’re saying they never went to the movies and tried to buy tickets to a showing that had already started (to manufacture an alibi) and were told that was not possible? If so, I don’t believe that. That narrative of them going to the movies has been very consistent and Lyle himself says they did that in interviews.
I swear I was just thinking that when he said "they never left the house after the murder" SMDH. You see how still in 2024 these platforms are still being irresponsible and careless and not *properly and accurately* educating themselves.

Watching the series on Netflix I did not expect 100% accuracy, and I did search hoping to find their statements on how accurately the whole thing was portrayed. (which brought me here) it is disappointing they were unhappy with the product, however I personally think the show did a wonderful job at highlighting just how much the court fumbled and how the mass public unrightfully perceived the case, especially at the time. Times have changed. I think their unhappiness with the show comes with the fact they have been robbed of life as things have progressed, and they have not watched other shows. They do not know the extent of the true crime community or even how much the public has truly shifted in SA awareness. I think they’re scared that this may ruin their public image and rightfully so considering they may have a chance at getting out.
In the 1980s, when this crime took place, the "abuse" defense was becoming common. "Battered Wife Syndrome" and abuse by parents were quite common. In fact, they were becoming "abused" by defense attorneys. That is most likely why the judge would not allow that defense.
There are people who are abused but don't kill their parents in this heinous manner. What has happened is that these guys are now old enough to deeply regret their actions and are hoping to convince everyone they should be released.
Nah they have had the same story since the beginning. I don't think that they regret it anymore than they did back then. Their dad was molesting them and treating them horribly. I think Ryan Murphy did an excellent job at dramatizing the case from all known perspectives. It was so well done. The scene where Erik tells Leslie about the molestations was incredibly well done. That actor is amazing. This series should result in the brothers’ freedom. Something besides money alone drove these brothers to kill. They will not kill again. They should go free.

@@liveinthenow3571 I get that, but it is causing the DA to look at the case and decide if the alleged abuse was discounted too much in the second trial. Now with more possible corroborating evidence, will he decide manslaughter should have been on the table? That gets them off with time served. Ryan Murphy did an excellent job of presenting the two narratives: that the brothers killed for money or the brothers were abused. He does not come to a conclusion. I think the truth is in the middle, actually.
So far everything I’ve looked up down to them playing hangman in the courtroom actually happens so the guy that made this Netflix show really did his research
They are monsters who brutally murdered their parents. Its disgusting that watching some fictional show changes someones mind so easily. Life imprisonment was the right punishment.
The Netflix show didn't convince me of anything. I followed the trials. Just because the people that were murdered was their parents doesn't mean they didn't murder their abusers.
This video says the brothers never left the home after the killings but that is false, they did leave, they ditched their guns and did go to a theater and a restaurant. Also, one discrepancy that isn't pointed out is the whole scene in the show about the safe. That never happened, what did happen regarding the will was Jose's computer was wiped by a computer tech that the uncle hired to hopefully find a will on the PC.
It is not about the series, is the documentary in Netflix by Alejandro Hartmann, where both brothers were interviewed, together with their former prosecutor, jurors and family talking on their behalf.
One thing you mention is incorrect. You say the brothers didn't leave the house after the murders. I just watched the real trial. They did indeed go to the movies. There is testimony of seeing Batman vs Licensed to Kill and one movie was sold out so they had to buy tickets for the other and then went to Taste of LA. For all Netflix got right that you mention, I doubt they would take narrative liberties with the actual night of the murders.
Excuse me. But the followers of Charles Manson couldn’t get a break ( until Van Houten was released recently). Those boys bought cars, jewelry, dugs, women after murdering their parents. Give me a break, please. What did Charlie’s people celebrate with?
Why would a series have to lie about anything that could be proven? They killed their parents over greed! Kids have killed parents over finding out about grades, been kicked out of school, they didn't like their rules, boyfriend, girlfriends i do believe that kids are sa but not these two!
Actually, they testified that they did go to two cinemas to try to get tickets. So they did NOT stay home. If you’re going to put the facts straight, get it right.
They were afraid they’d be killed if they told anyone? Well, according to their supporters they did tell people. There are so many inconsistencies in this story.
The dad probably deserved death but the moms punishment shouldn't have been death so the brother's deserve to be locked up for life for not killing in self defense but for doing it in anger and revenge which was not justified when it came to killing the mom
…..they literally did leave the home after the murder. they tried to get movie tickets and then threw them out and instead decided to meet their friend perry at cheesecake factory but then made an excuse as to why they couldn’t go so they went back home
That’s what “imperfect self defense” is. It’s manslaughter. Which is what they should have gotten, but the judge only gave the jurors the option of guilty and life in prison, or innocent and go free. He also didn’t allow any of the abuse evidence into the second trial, which is complete injustice. A jury should have ALL the facts of the case.
The first trial proved they were victims of CSA. Even if u believe they deserve to be in prison or if you think they should be released. It’s clear they were victims of CSA😢
Well, abuse or not, it still is premeditated murder. They were old enough to go away. No one in their right mind having the chance to escape that situation would just stay, go take time to buy shotguns, plan alibis, wait around and commit cold blood murder. They perhaps were abused, but they chose to plan and carry out a murder to take out their parents and enjoy their money. How many teenagers escape abusive parents and run to the streets? The "groomed to stay at home" doesn't make any sense.
I agree 100 percent. The father bought Lyle a condo, bought both brothers cars, paid their college tuition, gave them money, financed their international vacations they went on without their parents, etc. NEITHER brother had a valid reason for still being in that house. The parents even changed the locks and refused to give them a key yet Erik testified he "found new ways to break in the house." Locked doors mean go away. Condos are supposed to be lived in.
Except that Ryan Murphy didn't do that. He invented a LOT of things that weren't true and never happened, especially when it came to Lyle.

Netflix has been crap for a long time.
Love your fair coverage Jesse
They were afraid they’d be killed if they told anyone? Well, according to their supporters they did tell people. There are so many inconsistencies in this story.
The dad probably deserved death but the moms punishment shouldn't have been death so the brother's deserve to be locked up for life for not killing in self defense but for doing it in anger and revenge which was not justified when it came to killing the mom
People are so gullible. Especially fan-girls.
…..they literally did leave the home after the murder. they tried to get movie tickets and then threw them out and instead decided to meet their friend perry at cheesecake factory but then made an excuse as to why they couldn’t go so they went back home
It's not really "self defense" if at the time of the killing no one was doing anything to them.
@@mirabelarmstrong433 "imperfect self defense" is pure nonsense.
Cars are meant to be driven. College is meant to be attended.
Learn about trauma before commenting. And further context of the case.
@@Salee-ze7qt sorry if you were abused, but feeling have no place here. And that's still premeditated murder, they planned it. You don't get to use the abuse excuse to commit a carefully planned murder. It's not the same as if you are defending yourself in an actual attack, they planned it and attacked themselves. Murder is murder, there's no excusing it.
@@S.BlondeErik was in High school at the time. He wasn’t allowed to leave the house for college and that’s when he told Lyle about the ongoing abuse. Erik thought his dad would send him college like Lyle but he was to stay at home. Sad
@@ihaveadreamformykids4400 That is NOT true. Timelines and irrefutable ACTIONS do NOT lie. People lie. The entire Beverly Hills High School Class of 1989 Commencement Ceremony is on here and you clearly see Erik graduating with his father in the audience and this took place a few months before August 20th the crime date. There is no corroboration for Erik's claim that his parents wanted him to stay at home and go to college when the parents' irrefutable ACTIONS prove the exact opposite. The parents filled out numerous college applications for Erik, the father pulled strings at UC Berkely which is 6 hours away for Erik to get accepted there, the parents changed the house locks and refused to give Erik a key. Erik and Lyle are only 3 and a half years apart and ALWAYS lived in the same house except for the last two years. How is it possible this alleged abuse was going on and Lyle did not hear it or know about it and the live in maids did not see or hear it or see any signs of it yet everyone knew about Erik's relations with Craig when Craig did not live there?
“People said it did happen.” Um were these “ppl” there?
There was huge support for gypsy rose, she had no way out. Same for these guys. But they were guys so no sympathy.
Don’t care about Morgan and Morgan- but as a survivor of brutality- I’m with the Menendez brothers not Ryan Murphy- look into it
I definitely believe they were abused. But to premeditate murder to their parents, go back and reload to finish the job and then spend almost a million dollars after is psychotic behavior and they should absolutely be in prison!!
When you stated that the brothers never left the home after the murders
That is untrue this testimony came from them that they waited for the police to come and arrest them even though nobody had called 911
Left the house and discarded their clothing and the shotguns and came back to the house and then called the police...
And lying and said someone else shot their parents.
These brothers did it, and would say anything to be free, don’t believe Netflix bs 🙄🤦♀️🤢🤮
What are you on about? There was never a debate if they did it. They admitted to it. The question was why and if the second trial was fair. And it wasn't and with today's standards the evidence presented should have not ended up in life time sentence. They have spend 35 years in prison. It's very ignorant to comment when not even knowing the basic of the case.
Eric is so cute I could melt. With the big head of curly brown hair, super blue eyes. That beautiful smile And the swagger. Lyle is very handsome too. They both have this sweetness and in Eric’s case, sensitive and vulnerability about them ❤
..... and Ted Bundy was a handsome and very clever fella. So what?
I 100 percent think Ryan Murphy should have his hard drive checked and he has skeletons in his closet. He seems to enjoy portraying abuse and assault to the point where his work has become unwatchable to me.
Erik says “Let the truth stand as the truth “. Well, the truth is you and your brother chose to murder your parents instead of just leaving home. You committed premeditated murder. That’s the truth.
I wonder how you would act if you got graped by your own dad for years and years...
@@sagemode6Both brother were over 18 and legally adults. If it wasn’t about the inheritance why didn’t they just leave their parents? All they had to do was leave their parents and get away from their grasp.
This story is absolutely fascinating. So many intricacies.
