I think that it would be best before getting intimate with someone to let them know if you are trans, NOT for fear or danger of reprisal, but because there's less chance of hurt feelings on either side. It's NOT an excuse to harm someone, but it makes sense to discuss it before getting sexual.

My parents were so strict with me and my sister we had to be home by 9 and that was a long time from having to be home at 7pm and we were only allowed to go to certain places. Sadly I still veered in a terrible direction but I've been sober now for 32 years. I got caught early but think about people who keep using for years and never make it. 😞 You're right though, in this day and age, no one should be out that late, it almost never ends well.

24:31 Well that’s a beautiful sentiment. But. It’s such a shame that Lisa’s drive “to do right by her child” didn’t kick in earlier, ie while her child was alive and spiraling. *My comment is NOT based on the matter of transgender status.. we can remove that factor from my point entirely.* Because her child, trans or not, was clearly struggling and on a very destructive path as a school suspended, violent fighting, shot 6 times, teenage METH addict for goodness sakes. Red flags were a-flying and gave Lisa multiple opportunities to “do right by her child”.
    This is beyond tragic.

I think its important whether straight, bi, gay or transgender that people are open and honest prior to engaging in any type of intimate contact with anyone, in many times it will prevent disappointment from both parties and allow the other person to make a decision whether they want to pursue something with a man, women or transgender.

Then drugs and truancy and doing whatever else, while underage?? And don't even start with this 'when trans people go missing they're often dead' stuff- that's the case with EVERYONE.

You know what your child is doing , you know what kind of ppl are around so please guide them in proper way. Getting addicted to durgs so early risking life by meeting strangers at odd time she had invited too many dangers for herself. Its sad for a parent to loss a child so early this will be a never healing injury in her life. I wish all youngsters be bit more sensible and cautious when you are going to explore new things. Same parents keep tab on your kids on what they are doing.

Nikki had a history of hitting people her even said, “I would get called for her hitting people.” Why is it hard to believe that he freaked out on him after feeling rejected because he pushed him back and called him disgusting?
This could’ve ended up differently if Nikki was up front with who he truly was. I am not saying the guy that killed him is in the right he should’ve killed him. This is just sad the mom basically let Nikki do what he wanted she even said it. “I just let Nikki lead the way.” Kids are not supposed to lead the way as parents we are supposed to guid them and protect them. This mom didn’t do that. Truly sad

Nope. This is why at least one safe parent is needed.
That the mother phrased it as "She led the way, I followed" says alot.
Also: single mothers mostly didn't chose that past from the get-go. Many were forced to leave in order to survive. So in the end, it often is to blame on the fathers. But not them missing, but them behaving abusive.

I told that to my kids' dad.
He was too busy trying to get back with me so much that my children were able to point that out.
They eventually told me to stop trying (I drove to wherever so that he could spend whatever time with them -- up to 1k+ mile trip one way).
They used to tell their friends that he was dead before he actually passed away.
      So, I'd have to disagree.
Oh.. I left the relationship with the encouragement of my children & both sides of the family due to his horrible treatment (I was the ONLY female he put his hands on).
No matter how hard I tried -- he was still absent.

Someone really confident in themselves would not use Meth. I’m being totally judgmental but it sounds like the mother is on pills. It makes me wonder why her high school aged child was out meeting strangers in the middle of the night? It appears that the victim had a lot of issues, even though Nikki was accepted by her family and friends, there was still more going on. A lot of times, trans children/teens think transitioning will solve their problems but it does not.

It should ALSO be punishable by law if someone engages in any form of sexual contact (including kissing) without informing the other person they are trans. As a man I can tell you I would suffer serious trama if I discovered I was kissing another man dressed as a woman. The mere thought makes me nauseous. I don’t care how trendy it is to be trans; the law should protect those who are misled in this way. There’s absolutely nothing acceptable about non disclosure.

With heterosexual males, full disclosure is mandatory. If you are transgender, you owe it to the other person to disclose this before you allow yourself to become intimate with them. This is just common decency. On the other hand, he had no right to react the way he did and take someones life. This tragedy was preventable.

No matter what the reason Nikki was getting into fights, her mother should've stopped that. There's no reason as a preteen or teenager to be getting into physical violence for any reason, that's not the way to solve problems. It makes me sad that this mom really loved her daughter but did wrong by her anyway. It's a shame. They both needed someone on the outside who was sensible to talk sense into them both.
