Hi Havoc. Great job with all your tutorials to help the community to setup such great controls (but missing of good documentation). I was trying to setup the Virpil CM2 throttle axis rX and rX to use on ED but I haven''t figured out how. The idea is to configure the rX/rY axis in "forward" mode. I would be extremely grateful if you could pls give some hint/tip how to do that. Thanks again and keep up with such great job!
Great video and thanks for putting this together!! I am going to switch over to this format and I had 2 questions / clarifications: 1) If I understand this correctly, one of my use cases will be to have two different curves assigned to an axis - so in Mode 1 (for example), the curve will be set to limit an axis and this will be used for small fighter mode combat where I want to dial back the controls because it is so responsive, but then have an option (say Mode 2) that uses the full range of the axis and this will be for flying bigger, more clunky ships 2) Is there anyway to get the 6 buttons (that have LEDs) on the CM3 Throttle to change colours with the mode - its not critical but as a quick reminder, I could use white for default, red for fighter combat mode, etc..
I use the mode selections to change the input curves as you've described - defintely a great function to setup! Regarding the LEDs, you can use either the new Virpil Link Tool (forum.virpil.com/index.php?/topic/2561-vpc-link-tool/) or a JG plugin (forum.virpil.com/index.php?/topic/5832-upgrade-to-vpc_ledspy-to-be-a-lot-faster/) to handle that.
I've been trying to get joystick gremlin to work with my CM3 T2 button in conjunction with my Mode Switch. That way, if T2 is "on" I control my axis (L Alpha CM3) only from my throttle and all modes on my mode selector use only my throttle. If I place my T2 button to 'off' then all my modes only use my L Alpha Axis. I havent been able to get it to work like this at all reliably.
Amazeing stuff. Brilliant. Congratutulations. BUT, what im interested to see on the internet and on the web and it does not exist right now is a original vjoy emulator software that allows you to play with keyboard instead of joystick. That used to be vjoy. Now it is not anymore. Someone modified it. Please bring it back as it was. Secondly i would lilke to play x-plane 12 with keyboard but that is not an option. Sincerely i dont know who to turn to at this point since playing the game with mouse, nowadays moves the cursor alongside with the square, so that is certainly impossible if not very very hard to do. And so there is no option to play the game with a keyboard. The only option is / was vjoy or an joystick to keyboard emulator program. Thank you for all who is listening out there and takeing notes.
I can't get the Pause keystroke to be seen by DCS. Have you experienced this? Using a keystroke monitor, JG is certainly issuing a Pause keystroke. But DCS just won't recognise it. I have had to change DCS for pause and active pause to P and Alt+P to work around it, which is really annoying since I was hoping to not have to change the default mapping for ever module in DCS. A big plus for the effort of JG was not having to custom map too much foreach module.
HI. I have the VPC CM3 (71 buttons) (VPC-JOY-20210102 version). AS I see your POV'S MODE is in POV 4 way's. I have 3 other choices but no 4 ways. 3 choices I have: 4B4W 4B8W 8B8W. I have headache ! Anyway I'll try Your solution to the end, and see what happens. I'll let you know.
Hi, curious if it would be possible to just do everything 100% in Joystick Gremlin so that won't need 2 pieces of software? Is there something that Gremlin can't do that you need to use Virpil software for?
The virpil config software is only used to do basic set-up and tweak internal config things on the virpil device ............... it does NOT need to be running after that
I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction. this is all new to me. I want to wire a rotary encoder to a basic USB joystick board. (CY-822A) my plan was to wire the two inputs of the rotary knob to buttons 1 and 2 then use software (Joystick Gremlin) to remap the combined inputs through vjoy device to output single virtual button presses. 1+2 = vjoy right 2+1 = vjoy left the idea is when i turn the encoder knob i'll get "1+2 off 1+2 off 1+2 off" and vjoy would output "right right right" I cannot figure out how to make this work in joystick gremlin but im sure it must be possible. any help is appriciated.
QUESTION - Havoc I am trying to use the rotary encoder on the MongoosT-50CM as an axis. I have had a session with Virpil support but it appears that IL2 will not see Virtual axis in game and still sees the encoder as buttons. So I was wondering if this possible with Joystick Gremlin ? Thanks
IL-2 will pick-up the first thing triggered when setting something up, you could try disabling the button mappings for the encoders eg set them to something high (eg 128,127, ... ) in the mapping table
Another question, what have you found the best use of modes in DCS? Different aircraft modules? Different operational modes? I'd be interested in your thoughts on this.. And I guess a similar question on JG profiles - different games?
I use currently one JG profile for DCS, inside this profile are 6 "modes" controlled by the mode dial on my throttle (and anohter button) , FC3 - base profile all others are child from this one, ka-50, mi-8, F-19, A-10 and a generic Air to ground one

Hi Havoc....Will this get around the problem of 128 logical button limits per Virpil device? I'm setting up the Virpil CM2 throttle with the Virpil Control Panel 1 in slave mode for my nephew, and I noticed I now lost potential logical buttons. Now it's 128 buttons total for the combined throttle and Panel 1. Before it was 128 logical buttons each. Just wondering if what you did here with Joystick Gremlin, gets around this limitation. Turning the shift modes on the throttle changes the LED's on the Control Panel, but what's the point when you can't map them to anything because 120 buttons are used alone for the Default Throttle/Control Panel 1 slave mode connection. That leaves 8 blank logical buttons to do things like give the throttle T1-T4 buttons a down input, or add buttons for the Control Panel 1 depending on which throttle shift mode you're in (1-5), etc. Am I right about this? Will Joystick Gremlin solve this for me, to where I can keep them connected in slave mode, but have 5x the number of "logical" buttons that I can now map to keyboard presses, in DCS? Thanks man. Without your videos, my nephews $1,600 Virpil setup would be some fancy paper weights.
If you don't daisy chain them together, then each "device" gets 128 buttons. If you chain them together with their shorter cables for ease of use then it's 128 per two devices...so on and so forth. I know this is old, but if anyone looks at this keep that in mind. No need for joystick gremlin if you just all plug them in as their own individual device. This happens because it detects the "throttle + a control panel" as one "device" and in combination they are limited to 128 buttons....so wire them directly and avoid that.
Great tutorials, thanks man. Question though, what should I do in Gremlin to use same physical buttons for some other function, ex. slew command to do something else in P51?
I seem to be having a massive brain fart. When I remove the rotary buttons on my CM2 and save, it returns as saved and those blocks are empty. When I select the rotary switch it shows the exact same buttons I had in there in the first place. For some odd reason on my config physical buttons 35 to 40 aren't being used at all. If I try to select those physical buttons for the rotary, well, nothing happens. I also have 128 buttons available to me. Is it possible to just use the Virpil configs and not use joystick gremlin and basically duplicate every button on the throttle with the rotary? Does that make sense? I'm soo confused!
@@HavocCompanyClan yes, I found that really confusing! But what I did do, because there are 128 usable logic buttons, I just added 2, 3, 4, and 5 to the shift line for the rotary knob and added many to the list without going to gremlin.

@@HavocCompanyClan Sorry, I have not explained myself correctly. I did not ask you for a tutorial, I asked if you think that we would have to do something similar with another device.
Why didn't you just put the mode changes into Mode 1? Since we are in parent mode, if we leave the switches alone shouldn't that be enough to change modes?
because if we ever change from parent mode to no parent mode for this profile we would have to redo them, best to start off with them where we need them
I'm having a few issues, I have followed the guide but whenever I switch modes it seems to randomly choose a mode each time I flick the switch, I have them bound from 56-60 so when I put it on mode 1 for examle it'll go 57 and then mode 2 will be 58 but it'll be completely random and never using number 56, I don't know if you can help at all? Thanks
During following the tutorial I noticed (in Joystick Gremlin) it sometimes has a hard time keeping up with the changes (rotary Mode Switch on the throttle). So if you yank it quickly two positions up, it registers only one. Then you get weird behaviour (although logically) when you switch down. Haven't tried it in game yet, but it is not a dealbreaker for me. Just take a moment between the switches in Joystick Gremlin, that's all.
There isn't a way to change the LED colors as a result of actions in Joystick Gremlin, is there? I'm pretty sure there isn't, but wanted to see if you had considered this.
@@HavocCompanyClan It would be great a tutorial about the configuration of the engine start UP and abaut the afterbuner activation LEDS, compatible with this method!
fantastic ! you must be an IT developper ... ;-) I understand the "generic" approach to solve most common bindings between different airplane types. The genious is in its simplicity. The more it is indeed a true failsave against DCS's F***ups when bindings changed again. But how do you differentiate your selected binding for example : "button 4" performing action1 for plane X and same "button 4" performing action2 for plane Y and yet "button 9-to-12" perform the same actions for plane X and Y. Do you create a new profile then for X and a seperate for Y ? ... Maybe I missed something ? PS : checked the webpage on Joystick Gremlin, is this person offering its application for free ???
with parent mode 1, put all the most common bindings in there, then customise the child modes for indivdual aircraft, with the most common in mode1, you can copy the whole profile and then add more, to the other modes eg file 1, has, 5 modes (fc3,a-10C,ka-50,mi-8,M-200C) file 2 has .... shitload more aircraft
According to Joystick Gremlin, you first need VJoy installed. On the VJoy forum, it says that VJoy may not be able to be installed on the latest version of Win10. So did you install VJoy before you did this video?
Good news. I have been able to install VJoy and joystick gremlin in Win10. Why? Who knows, but I have some theories. First my copy of Win10 was an upgrade from Win7 so maybe some old drivers were left in windows on the upgrade. Second, I have not downloaded the latest release of Win10 that has been causing so much trouble so maybe the new version of Win10 is the problem. Third, I have no idea. I have not yet used these programs but they boot up nicely and JG does not complain that VJoy is not installed. PS: If it wasn't for your videos I would never order the Warbrd base for my WH grip.
I may have been premature in stating that VJoy works. Not sure if it is VJoy not working or me not understanding how it works. A short video on how to set up VJoy would be nice.
This does not work for me. Gremlin does not consistently show the same button number as I rotated the dial. Virpil software shows it correctly, Gremlin? No.
gremlin will show the logical button that encoder direction is mapped to, check VPC joytester and move the dial to see which logical buttons are being triggered
@@HavocCompanyClan Right. I have verified the input via both Virpil Settings Software, and the Input Tester in Gremlin... These are the highlighted 'buttons' when the status is: Not Running. That said, the actual interface, when I click on the throttle and move from mode 1 to mode 2 shows that mode 1 is 51, mode 2 is 50. Now, mode 3 is 50, mode 4 is 52, mode 5 is 53... Now mode 4 is 54. Mode 3 is 53, mode 2 is 52 and mode 1 is 51. I set it up according to your video verbatim. Where it gets interesting is once I selected the mode notification as you did... If I select the status: Running and Active, each mode responds correctly - according to the notification. Bizarre right? I've done this over and over. For some reason, when Gremlin is not active, it's all over the place with regard to this rotary knob.

Hello, currently Vjoy v2.1.9.1 does not allow trimming, at least in DCS. It is something new but I do not see the solution anywhere. Have you noticed the problem? Thank you
Nope, I only bind the axis in DCS (directly from the joystick/throttle NOT using Vjoy) , all other buttons are done in Joystick Gremlin as button press to keyboard key press
@@HavocCompanyClan but.., you need to install Vjoy for the functioning of Joestik Gremling, ¿am I wrong? and Vjoy, for some reason that I do not understand, it is blocking the trim on all the planes. The trim are butons, not axes, and they don,t works...th rest of the conrtorl works fine.
@@pabletesoy Vjoy is needed for joystick gremlin to work = true. Thanks
nvm It's sorted I think. I think the pc just needed a reboot, everything seems to be working fine atm :)
I'm pretty sure there isn't, but wanted to see if you had considered this.
nope, that done the VPC software handles this
@@HavocCompanyClan It would be great a tutorial about the configuration of the engine start UP and abaut the afterbuner activation LEDS, compatible with this method!
@@pabletesoy already done, see the playlist (F18 detent)
@@HavocCompanyClan Oh my God! incredible!
fantastic ! you must be an IT developper ... ;-)
I understand the "generic" approach to solve most common bindings between different airplane types.
Vjoy was indeed installed before I did this video, but I hate windows 10 with a passion (because its so shite) so I am still using windows 7
I cannot seem to get VJoy to work (or user error some where), but the buttons do seem to work on JG so can you still use JG without Vjoy working?
The answer appears to be NO.
@@project.jericho ah get you now that you meant the encoder dials, not the Mode selector, you used the NO MODE profile on the vpc software when you configured the throttle profile ?
did you keep the profile as a no mode modifier?
yes (in the VPC software when setting up the throttle profile)
Are you gonna make a new video, because the soft you are using is outdated now.
Maybe when the newer versions are more bug free than they are currently
Do you have a list of same bindings?
Hello, currently Vjoy v2.1.9.1 does not allow trimming, at least in DCS. It is something new but I do not see the solution anywhere. Have you noticed the problem?
Thank you
Nope, I only bind the axis in DCS (directly from the joystick/throttle NOT using Vjoy) , all other buttons are done in Joystick Gremlin as button press to keyboard key press
@@HavocCompanyClan but.., you need to install Vjoy for the functioning
of Joestik Gremling, ¿am I wrong? and Vjoy, for some reason that I do not understand, it is blocking the trim on all the planes. The trim are butons, not axes, and they don,t works...th rest of the conrtorl works fine.
@@pabletesoy Vjoy is needed for joystick gremlin to work = true. You do NOT have to bind Vjoy device axis or Vjoy device buttons in joystick gremlin (I do not use the Vjoy device in gremlin at ALL) , I just select my Virpil joystick in gremlin , pick a button on it and then bind that button to a keyboard press (eg one that does something in DCS - example would be f ... that toggle flaps on/off - see the keyboard column in DCS config what which keyboard keys do what in an aircraft)
@@HavocCompanyClan Well, it's exactly the same as I do, I don't understand what happens with the trims.
I had assigned a couple of controls within DCS in the Vjoy row and everything failed ... it finally works! Thnaks for the help
Gremlin does not see my mode switch as a button.. help
i think mode in gremlin does not work with control panel as slave..
Is there a way to make CP1 as different device as modes 1-5? VPC Config software is limited to 128 buttons, so you cant have x5 of the CP1
@@daemon3spade I would not use the control panel as a slave to another Virpil device
@@daemon3spade Which profile have you set your throttle up with ?
@@HavocCompanyClan Why is that?.. I currently cannot use the VPC Shift tool coz of some error but was planning ti use it to get 5 modes on my CP1
