So many of us have had to fight through this ... thanks for sharing with the community! It'll continue to be helpful for a long time to those who find it.
Very helpful. I am wrestling with this at the moment, but I had to watch it 4 or 5 times to get it right. Not because of the presentation, but because you are not the only one struggling with the logic of the Virpil software. It seems to be based on Soviet a Russian system. Those who fly the KA50 module in DCS will probably understand, but the "rear trigger" fires the cannon, and the "front trigger" is the safety lever. When the safety lever is down, or to the rear, the gun is safe. To shoot the cannon the pilot must flick the forward trigger up to arm the cannon, and then he can squeeze the rear trigger to fire it. I would say that is why the default is "down is off" and "up is on". Well done, thanks.
that make lots of sens ! is like walking around with a hand gun or what ever other type of gun yes you have a safety switch and when is on you have your finger as ..."safety finger" you dont have your finger inside the ring on the trigger ...until you engage . same for the Alpha Grip Virpil. if you try to fly with your finger between the rear trigger and the safety lever ...the safety lever always go forward position in safety mode ! sorry for my English haha hope it does make sens !
OMG! It had been 3 years and I had given up trying to figure it out. I stumble upon your vid trying to figure out a control panel. Thank you so much for this vid! You explained it in a way I understood.
Thanks for the Video. I've just started playing Star Citizen. This setup works perfect to switch the operating mode to Missile Mode, selecting guns by flicking the lever fwd doesn't (at least for me). Another example let's say the ship is set to Quantum Mode, and you want to go to guns mode. There's has to be an input to initiate that mode change. I played around with joystick gremlin with a setup that would send an input when Button 1 from the lever is set to off (FWD Position) but I haven't got that to work yet. In theory if the operator mode was set to Quantum and you want guns, you would pull the lever to select Missile first, then push it fwd and end up in guns mode. We still have to overcome the game's lag too. So great video, it was very helpful and I learned a lot from it. I encountered a weird problem with side button bit, I was getting phantom button inputs where the side button was change the shift states... I had to set the stick back to factory to clear it. No worries though good fun. Cheers!
Thank you for this. I finally have controls that make sense in VR. I tried your changes, and after a remapping of in game controls, I completed the F18 Gauntlet for the first time easily.
OK I managed this in a different way that actually works for Star Citizen, Button 1 is set to switch not Inverted, S0 is normal operation, S1 is set 1,off then color selection if any.
@@SMUK89274 It's all in the software for the sticks. I listed what I did differently than the video described. He does a great job of getting into it in detail.
Thankyou for this. I was getting confused whilst going along with your video but they way you explained it and the way you showed the button theory it just clicked. how you figured this out yourself is beyond me but thankyou for this, ive subscribed to your channel and will keep an eye on your content. Great job and thank you for taking the time to create this video. 🙏
Thank you so much. You literally saved me. I was struggling with this B01 leaver for so long trying to set up exactly that kind of missile mode. Damn - this Virpil sofware is far from being intuitive. Thumbs UP.
Thanks for this video. I knew already, that was possible, but never actually tried that. But as i'm new to Star Citizen since a few days and wanted to use the joystick to it's full potential i also played around with the bindings and watched other videos. My Button 1 is set to "SWITCH" with is the biggest difference here (was also already mentioned below). TLDR: Button 1 (or rather the switch) in the VPC software is configured as SWITCH, Shift OFF and not Inverted like in this video Button 2 = Shift S1 Button 3+4 = Shift S0 Button 31 = Shift S1 (mapped button 3 with trigger on) = Virtual Button Button 32 = Shift S1 (mapped button 4 with trigger on) = Virtual Button Shift S0 = All LED White Shift S1 = All LED Red, 0 changed to 1 Button 1 in Star Citizen is used for Missile Operator Mode (Toggle). Button 2 in SC is used for Launch Missile Button 3+4 in SC is Fire Weapon Group 1 and 2 (in that state the Trigger/Button 1/Switch is at it's flipped up position) VButton 31+32 in SC is not mapped as i don't have a use for that right now (in that state the Trigger/Button 1/Switch is at it's flipped down position = missiles armed) Longer explanation: I tired fideling around with the settings in VPC+SC and combined basically two videos/explanations. I didn't like the Button 1 as a normal button (inverted or not doesn't matter). It also didn't work for me for SC, as i couldn't properly de-/activate Missile Mode. But the explanation and settings for the shift states, colors and the virtual buttons helped and i like them. Setting Button 1 to "Switch" did at first not work for SC either, but now it worked, i don't know why. Maybe i forgot to press the Save in VPC SW (!don't forget that!) The biggest benefit is, flipping it, is a On and instant Off command. And Missile Operator Mode is a Toggle. Setting it to "Switch" means, you can pull the lever and Missiles are on. Pushing it back to its "up" position deactivates the missiles. Maybe with different settings in SC that can be achieved also with the setting in VPC to inverted, but i didn't find a way in SC. Changing Button 3+4 (or rather the Button 1) to Shift S1 also messed up my whole settings in SC. Somehow the stick was then a new input device and i would have had to change all the settings. I tried with the most important but even just flying was a problem as the axis seemed to be "different" and not working properly. (But may have also been me, messing something up.) But that is the reason why i only set the physical Button 2 to Shift S1 and created Button 31+32 (Switch "on") as virtual Buttons of Button 3+4. To me that also makes more sense as i see rather this "switched on" state as the optinal/additional state instead of "switched off". With the colors for the Shift states i also have a proper lighting for every state =) There is only one DOWNSIDE to this. When you pull your Button 1 for Missile Mode, go for example to the menu and push it back up, your ship stays in missile mode but Button 1 is in the wrong position. Going back to the menu, pull it again and going back into game fixes that quickly, but still ... So the real perfect solution would be an actual ON/OFF but i don't see how to manage that as you only have this Missile Operator Mode (Toggle) in Star Citizen. Maybe i'm missing something. If so, please let me know. Otherwise (for me) this is the best solution for now. My comment got a little longer and hopefully not to confusing after the already confusing video or rather confusing VPC software ;-)
Probably won't ever have a way around flipping the switch when you're not in the pilot seat causing it to be backwards. Just like flipping it before you called in the ship. Been dealing with this with gameglass for years. Being virtual switches, Star Citizen could potentially solve it in gameglass eventually, but with hardware like a flight stick, we'll always just have to be aware of our positions when using a physical toggle switch.
thank you alot! your hint made it work for me. basically i used all the settings from this video and configured Button 1 as a SWITCH instead of inverted. this made missile mode possible for me. without it didnt work in SC...
This seems a rather complicated method of achieving a switch behavior. Try setting the Mode to Switch, no need for inversion. No need for shift states for this simple operation. I use B1(Flip Trigger) for Missile Operator Mode as well, with B2(Flip Trigger Squeeze) as Launch Missile (hold for missile cam). Flipping B1 back up(away/physical ON) returns you to Pilot Operator Mode. Edit: Shift States come in super handy when you're trying to, for example, manage 6 shield faces with one 4 way hat - with SH+up and SH+down on the hat managing top and bottom shields. Or making that same hat manage missile type/amount instead of shields in MOM.
I had no idea about this function. Had the alphas for 2 years haha. This makes me love them even more. Didnt even know the flip trigger squeeze would actually register as a seperate button :o
I had it working perfectly until some patch messed it up and when SC doesn't read and sometimes does not get the message to switch modes. Are you having any issues?
@@taznaga SC Patches can't mess up the Virpil configuration, it is saved to the grip/base itself. If game patches messed anything up, it will be your in-game controls configuration. The flip trigger failing to register has only ever happened to me when spamming the flip trigger, which any key or button on any device will suffer from, as it is an in-game limitation of how often it will act upon registering a press of the Operator Mode Swap key (cooldown).
You helped me a lot with this video. Thank you! I tried the opposite way to push up that trigger to bind a key in star citizen to switch to missile mode. Its not working because physical button 2 is registered as a fire button. Also I tried to toggle the pinky finger button for a shift button. It is toggling on but not toggling off anymore when pushing it again. Now I use it as normal shift button and I need to keep it pressed.
For anyone wondering why the hell things don't work in Star Citizen. In case you are testing in Arena Commander, some ships spawn in a weird VTOL state. YOU HAVE TO ACTIVATE AND DEACTIVATE VTOL in order to UNBUG them! Then missiles will load properly and can be fired however you set it up. I recommend the following: Button 1, Switch, OFF, False Button 2, Normal, S1, False Button 3, Normal, S1, False (ATTENTION, if you're using the Virpil Constellation Alpha Prime, you have an additional button on the between button 1 and the last trigger (button 5) set hings up accordingly!) Button 4, Normal, S1, False Button 5, Normal, S1, False (Like mentioned above, this is only necessary for the Alpha Prime Joysticks) Add the additional buttons like shown in the video, but set them to S0. Shift Setup: S0 leave as is S1, 1, OFF, [ALL] All RGB LEDs (or whatever you like) Hope this helps save someone the frustration.
Absolutely amazing guide, just got my new VPC set! And I also find it to be odd that it's inverted according to my logic! Had to find a way & thanks to your video: it saved me a lot of time & frustration… - (That's a subscribe).
Really appreciate this video and will try setting up my own version of this when I get the time. Figured all of this was possible when I saw the software for the first time but was too lazy to figure it out. Thanks for the hard work man.
Thank you sooo much. As much as I love my Virpils, the software leaves a LOT to be desired when it comes to ease of understanding. While I’m not a big fan of “modes” , since the led color can be changed AND it’s the trigger button, it’s definitely worth the added abilities..👍👍
In my opinion, this trigger is designed so that after you have activated the "2" button, that is, halfway, you release the trigger (you have to release it suddenly) and it automatically activates the "1" button, which is the forward position. Why do you want to do that? For example, to do any action that you know you must do after activating the "2" button. This way you do it automatically when you release the trigger because it will activate the "1" button when it goes to the forward position. Also the "1" button, in switch mode, can activate some mode in game and shoot, or use with the "2" button. This trigger has many possible configurations. Obviously, everyone can configure it as they want.
The shift tool is to program the LEDs to respond to events happening in the game. It works really well with Elite Dangerous like having red LEDs flash when taking heat damage. This is very useful when you are fighting in a group can't hear the ship voice clearly.
3:08 shift tool allows you to take a shift (or zoom) state from one device and have it applied to another. ie: I put zoom for the pedal seesaw axis on my left left toe brake. I can use the shift tool to apply zoom also to my left stick. That way, I can press the "clutch" to have more precision on fwd/back (seesaw pedals) and horizontal/vertical for doing decoupled docking in sc. You could have it apply a shift state from the right stick's flip down to the left stick as well.
Oooh, nice! Thanks~ That's kind of crazy, you could have the right flip down apply to both sticks, left apply to both sticks, and maybe even both flipped up, both flipped down, for four states total? I may play around with that tonight. It'd be cool for mining, scanning, general flight combat, and missiles
@@rericksen for mining I did something else… I copied the brake lever axis on the right stick and gave it a new type. Had the original one only when flipped up, the new one only when flipped down. enabled zoom for the new axis, and made it that zoom got triggered when the flip down touched the trigger. that way, I could mine by flipping down, and control the laser with my pinky. once I was near the green, I pressed the flip down to enable zoom. which gave me twice the precision around that spot. And all of that without needing to take my hands off the controls
Thanks for your vid it helpt a lot. I only did'nt use the inverted option on button 1. i lost button 1 that way I put the shift state from off to shift 1 on button 1 that way i retain the use of button 1. When flying in DCS i use the lever of button 1/2 for master arm on button 2 and master arms off buttom1
Very nice. Thanks for the info! I mean... there would be easier methods to achieve just the "Missile Mode" functionality but combined with the LEDs switching to different colours and wanting to use specific buttons in two different "modes" in game this is probably one of the best tutorials of how to do it. ;)
Nice Video, unfortunately not working anymore for Constellation Alpha Prime, as the Lever has now 3 Positions: - Lever full forward is now considered "Button 1 On" - Level one position down is considered "Button 2 On" - If you pull the lever to the triggers is no considered "Button 3 On" - First stage of trigger is than "Button 4 On" and 2nd stage is "Button 5 On" or if you use it with the leverl its "Button 3 On + Button 4 (+Button5)
As with a lot of things, changing your own way of thinking can be a lot easier than changing another's way of thinking. To save the confusion and extra programming I would consider the "default" setup as "off" and the "action" of flipping the trigger forward would be turning it on. I can only figure that's why they did it that way as when the trigger is pushed forward it looks like it is there for a reason and no longer in its "default" state. Plus you can pick which shift you want without accidentally pulling past the shift that you intended.
Hey man THX a lot for the video, it is a little bit ..hmm not intuitive that Virpil's hell of software :D Fun fact, I want it to be set up exact opposite to you and as Virpil preset it... Trigger down = normal -> fire pewpews Trigger Up = switches to missile mode -> fire missiles Funny is I was thinking about it this way naturally even before I had the joysticks delivered :D
My solution to this was just setting button 1 to function as a switch. Then moving the trigger to either position will send a button tap. Also gives the flexibility to choose which position you prefer to be missile mode on the fly.
An easier way to do this is to set button 1 as switch in the VPC software, and then bind button 1 to missile mode. Or in 3.23, bind missile mode and guns mode to button 1. No need for shift states this way.
On mine (prime) whenever I engage the flip down trigger i get button 2 tto engage aswell. VPC testor Only shows 32 buttons for me and I do not have "split by 32 buttons" checked
I don't play DCS. Which gives me slightly different use cases. I was wondering if it would be possible to make the forward flip up trigger push the same button both up and down? Essentially I'd be using this for opening weapons up from stowage and returning them to stowage. In the game, this is the same button. Currently, I don't have a use for that trigger at all and I have it on the wheel. But this would be a lot more satisfying if it can be done. Thanks in advance for your time!
What's the setup difference between the Warbird and the Alpha Prime w/50CM base? I'm not getting the same outputs as you are in the video. Button/Trigger one has another state before getting to the first hard stop. So, with the trigger in the up position, it shows off in the tester tool. A slight press shows it as on and then at the first hard stop it shows buttons 1 and 2 as on. Now, from the first hard stop a slight press turns off button 2. Pressing to the next hard stop turns off button 2 and turns button 3 on. Pressing to next click turns on 3 and 4 and the full press has 3, 4 and 5 on. Is this correct? Great video BTW!
Thanks it reminds me of the thrustmaster F16 stick throttle and rudder set I had for Apache longbow 64 I set that many buttons to do stuff and then change when the pinkie finger was pressed .It was great but if you speed a month away from it you can not remember what does what. Nice to know you can have 5 shift states . Mining/salvage , Guns , missiles, scanning ? is the scroll wheels like a mouse wheel or is ok for the mining power ? as I didnt like using the mouse scroll for it
I've gone thru all of this however how do I get SC to recognize the button setup in the Virpil software since the mode is used on the mouse wheel and not a key on the board?
While you wait for another reply, what I do is use vJoy and Joystick Gremlin (also hidHide is essential too). Combing these three apps is the BEST thing a SC flyer can do. I have a full rig with every panel and practically every stick winwing sells, as well as a few from virpil. I use all of them with ease (other than the BS I have to do in the vpc software). With over 500 buttons, I can choose what I want to use and it's all combined into one controller (unless I need to exceed the 6 axis limit, then I simply make a 2nd). Hidhide then hides all my other hardware from apps, unless I choose some not to. I really didn't want to have to deal with other apps, but it is sooooo worth it for the plethora of headaches SC can be for settings.
Thank you, I had done this years ago and just updated the firmware of my sticks, and it stopped working. Could not for the life of me remember how to do this.
Giving you a thumbs up. I wanted to do something like this and this video was randomly on my yt front page. Now that I understand what you did... Im wondering if I can make it where the "main trigger" "2nd-stage" press only activates instead of 1st-stage and 2nd-stage.
Wow,…thank you so much for this video!…. This has been doing my head in for the last 3 months trying to work out how to setup shift state modes with the flip trigger for star cit! Virpil had no clear guides on how to do this. Thank you for working it out and posting this vid, I’m pretty happy now 😁👍. Question regarding star cit and overlapping bindings, is it possible to have the trigger flip switch double up as missile mode and mining mode?
If I bought one of those joysticks for ED, plugged it in and loaded ED, will it work? Or do I have to use that software? Only asking cause personally I would try to use the joystick as preconfigured…. If indeed it is preconfigured? I find setting the bindings in ED hard enough so using that software would completely blow my mind! 😂 As I understand it Virpil is not listed in ED unlike what I’m currently using with the Warthog.
Yesterday I received alpha prime + war brd base. I will say that after connecting to a PC, it does not work at all and even the led does not glow. You need to download the software anyway and update the firmware.
thanks a million on this. ive been wondering how to set them to be a Shift modifier. sadly for Star Citizen it dont work like i wanted since in game its a Press On, Press Off button. maybe one day they will give us toggle missile on and toggle missile off like they finally did with the landing gear. rather than having it on a normal button i can finally use a toggle swith and up is gear up and down is gear down.
i did however set up this flip trigger to activate mining mode and fire laser, while flipped up i can still use weapons with normal trigger still. did the same for left stick for scanning mode and ping. cleaned up alot of buttons doing it this way
This is kind of confusing xD Thanks a lot though, I'll play around with this once my Alpha finally arrives. Still not what I have envisioned for this (trigger down for missile operator mode, and up for default flight) but it is a great start. As for the reason for the"weird" on/off state, I think it might be because the trigger has several positions, but only one "resting" position can be considered on - it doesn't have states. If the down position was On, it would be triggered every time you let go of the trigger after pressing it. Question though: am I seeing this right that you are using the right Alpha with z-Extension? How is it and what are your bindings if I may ask? I've been thinking about eventually getting a dual z-extension setup, but I have concerns as to how intuitive/precise it will be for aiming.
I really like the Z extensions. It's all personal preference tho. My own bindings are a work in progress, but here's a quick pic I took that covers my basics: imgur.com/a/VFGaqgA basically. anything targetting related (pin, cycle subsystems, nearest hostile, cycle missile type, shoot, etc) is on my right stick, and left stick is engine/shield/weapons energy, cycle friendlies, throttle (speed/accel limiter), cruise control, etc. Left stick is all strafes (up down is Y, L/R is X, forward/back is Z... yeah that's odd, I know, but I hated having to have my stick constantly shoved forward in fights. twist axis for throttle is more like a motorcycle throttle? less accurate, but get it to a good speed, then hit cruise control on the trigger, etc). Right stick is all rolls. Pitch U/D is Y, roll R/L is X and yaw L/R is twist. Some people like yaw on X, but Elite Dangerous made me learn to roll then pull up to make a hard left, etc. There's a sequel to this video here, if the first one made sense and you want to build off it: ua-cam.com/video/8mU-21r4Eig/v-deo.html
@@ixobellegaming Looks like you're a perfect "test subject" for me then, hehe. I use the same bindings. In all seriousness though, I use the same "odd" bindings for stick axes. Left for strafes, right for rolls, and left twist like a motorcycle. It's very intuitive for me to move the right stick "the same way I want the ship to move", and that's actually where my concern came from. With Z-Extension, the position of the right stick is no longer dirrectly corresponding to the relative position of the ship, if you know what I mean - you no longer twist the stick left/right, but rather twist it forward/backward. But for some reason, I really like the idea of having sticks angled like that, so seeing someone use them in such way is.. relieving? To see my weird idea as a viable option. I guess I'll go that way too and get 2 extensions with my next order :)
good video dude, just idk if its just me but in DCS, this works every SECOND TIME I put down my missile switch, like up down, doesnt work, up down again, it works, up down again it doesnt work, like its stupid why is this happening
I received my Alpha yesterday, and since it's my first-ever experience with such equipment and DCS, it's sooooo hard :))) but it's interesting to dig into those little tricks :) Thanks for the video! If you have a recommended profile of Alpha for most flights in DCS, and you can share it, it would be so wonderful and you'd have reserved place in the Heaven :)))
So Im a bit confused for your missile stage. Nothing in Star Citizen cares about button state (on or off). All it cares about is that a mapped button pressed event was given: as a toggle from on-to-off or off-to-on. Another words was button 21 pressed? NOT is button 21 in an ON state. What am I missing? I also have a Virpil Trottle that I use shift state for more button access for but I didnt realize the Alpha also has the ability (which Ill never use, but thank you for that).
Can't you just set up position to switch state off and down position to switch state 0? I guess you are changing the behavior in other games though also.
Thats a rly bad solution to your problem, just set the "mode lever" (button 1) to switch button mode and bind button 1 ingame to switch missile mode ,jobs done without all the restrictions of your solution. This will make the lever send a single short signal when deactivated and activated.
I'd love to understand how to do this better, just documenting the solution I found stumbling around. If you have a link feel free to drop it here and I'd love to check it out. Not playing SC currently, but will probably circle back around for Pyro.
its extremely hard to follow this video and accomplish this set up, he just keeps breaking his train of thought about stuff and never just finishes his explanation about 1 thing, also just in a row show us how to set this up please! with out gaps of explanation about what we can and cant do and can and cant invert, between every single button binding. 😢
I was like this like guide might like be kind of like a like way to like kind of like fix the kind of like problem I was kind of like having. The problem, kind of, is like when I’m like kind of trying to like follow it, you just spend half of the time saying kind of and like. Anyway like, I kind of like gave up .

Thank you so much for this tutorial. I just updated my Virpil software and this went all over my head.
Cheers!

Oh, Man! This Flip Trigger Problem was driving me nuts! Your solution actually works! Thanks a lot, man!
Thk!!! And thk for the video, is a very good one!!
I needed that comment again after a firmware update, thanks many times again!
Can you explain this aa bit more, new to Virpil (literally arrived today) and I'd love this for SC
@@SMUK89274 It's all in the software for the sticks. I listed what I did differently than the video described. He does a great job of getting into it in detail.

TLDR:
Button 1 (or rather the switch) in the VPC software is configured as SWITCH, Shift OFF and not Inverted like in this video
Button 2 = Shift S1
Button 3+4 = Shift S0
Button 31 = Shift S1 (mapped button 3 with trigger on) = Virtual Button
Button 32 = Shift S1 (mapped button 4 with trigger on) = Virtual Button
Shift S0 = All LED White
Shift S1 = All LED Red, 0 changed to 1
Button 1 in Star Citizen is used for Missile Operator Mode (Toggle).
Button 2 in SC is used for Launch Missile
Button 3+4 in SC is Fire Weapon Group 1 and 2 (in that state the Trigger/Button 1/Switch is at it's flipped up position)
VButton 31+32 in SC is not mapped as i don't have a use for that right now (in that state the Trigger/Button 1/Switch is at it's flipped down position = missiles armed)
Longer explanation:
I tired fideling around with the settings in VPC+SC and combined basically two videos/explanations.
Maybe i forgot to press the Save in VPC SW (!don't forget that!)
The biggest benefit is, flipping it, is a On and instant Off command.
(But may have also been me, messing something up.)
But that is the reason why i only set the physical Button 2 to Shift S1 and created Button 31+32 (Switch "on") as virtual Buttons of Button 3+4. To me that also makes more sense as i see rather this "switched on" state as the optinal/additional state instead of "switched off". With the colors for the Shift states i also have a proper lighting for every state =)
There is only one DOWNSIDE to this.
Thank you for this video. I have been looking for a solution for this issue for months and can't wait to try it out!
Thax for this video. I am currently waiting on the backorder of my Constellation Alpha to fuillfill. This video sparks ideas.
Or making that same hat manage missile type/amount instead of shields in MOM.
you beat me to it
I had no idea about this function. Had the alphas for 2 years haha. This makes me love them even more. Didnt even know the flip trigger squeeze would actually register as a seperate button :o
I had it working perfectly until some patch messed it up and when SC doesn't read and sometimes does not get the message to switch modes. Are you having any issues?
just added a 100ms delay to button 1 and now it is working consistently. yay
I recommend the following:
Button 1, Switch, OFF, False
Button 2, Normal, S1, False
Button 3, Normal, S1, False (ATTENTION, if you're using the Virpil Constellation Alpha Prime, you have an additional button on the between button 1 and the last trigger (button 5) set hings up accordingly!)
Button 4, Normal, S1, False
Button 5, Normal, S1, False (Like mentioned above, this is only necessary for the Alpha Prime Joysticks)
Add the additional buttons like shown in the video, but set them to S0.
Shift Setup:
S0 leave as is
S1, 1, OFF, [ALL] All RGB LEDs (or whatever you like)
Hope this helps save someone the frustration.
Absolutely amazing guide, just got my new VPC set! And I also find it to be odd that it's inverted according to my logic! Had to find a way & thanks to your video: it saved me a lot of time & frustration… - (That's a subscribe).
Wooow just wooow Thanks you so much for you time sharing this with us ! very appreciated ! watching part 2 right now !
Thanks for the vid, and for going the longer route. You have taught me to fish!
Really appreciate this video and will try setting up my own version of this when I get the time. Figured all of this was possible when I saw the software for the first time but was too lazy to figure it out. Thanks for the hard work man.
Virpil dispatched my first Alpha Prime today. So glad I've got this as a reference to set all this up :)
Thank you sooo much. As much as I love my Virpils, the software leaves a LOT to be desired when it comes to ease of understanding. While I’m not a big fan of “modes” , since the led color can be changed AND it’s the trigger button, it’s definitely worth the added abilities..👍👍
Amazing bro!
you have saved me four hours of total desesperation haha thank youu!
Greetings ;)
The shift tool is to program the LEDs to respond to events happening in the game. It works really well with Elite Dangerous like having red LEDs flash when taking heat damage. This is very useful when you are fighting in a group can't hear the ship voice clearly.
How do you accomplish this?
@@ceb1970 someone recently made a video tutorial. I think there name was KingTurtleGaming 😉
Oooh, nice! Thanks~
That's kind of crazy, you could have the right flip down apply to both sticks, left apply to both sticks, and maybe even both flipped up, both flipped down, for four states total? I may play around with that tonight. It'd be cool for mining, scanning, general flight combat, and missiles
@@rericksen for mining I did something else…
I copied the brake lever axis on the right stick and gave it a new type.
I just got a set of virpils. This video is a god send. Thank you. I play SC. The buttons numbers for the Alpha prime are different.
Because the Prime has an extra 'button' on the flip trigger
Great video dude! 🎉
thanks, my const alpha p are arriving tomorrow (yay!), i think you saved me a buttload of time lol. Good one
Thanks for your vid it helpt a lot.
I only did'nt use the inverted option on button 1. i lost button 1 that way
I put the shift state from off to shift 1 on button 1 that way i retain the use of button 1.
When flying in DCS i use the lever of button 1/2 for master arm on button 2 and master arms off buttom1
Saving the video in my bookmarks in virpil folder! :)
Very nice. Thanks for the info!
I mean... there would be easier methods to achieve just the "Missile Mode" functionality but combined with the LEDs switching to different colours and wanting to use specific buttons in two different "modes" in game this is probably one of the best tutorials of how to do it. ;)
i guess i need to watch this again (and again) but thanks alot for this explanation ❤
Nice Video, unfortunately not working anymore for Constellation Alpha Prime, as the Lever has now 3 Positions:
- Lever full forward is now considered "Button 1 On"
- Level one position down is considered "Button 2 On"
- If you pull the lever to the triggers is no considered "Button 3 On"
- First stage of trigger is than "Button 4 On" and 2nd stage is "Button 5 On" or if you use it with the leverl its "Button 3 On + Button 4 (+Button5)
Hey man THX a lot for the video, it is a little bit ..hmm not intuitive that Virpil's hell of software :D
Fun fact, I want it to be set up exact opposite to you and as Virpil preset it...
Trigger down = normal -> fire pewpews
Trigger Up = switches to missile mode -> fire missiles
Funny is I was thinking about it this way naturally even before I had the joysticks delivered :D
I’ve been waiting for my virpil stuff for 2 months now, they need to hurry it up!
My shipment got held up a month in customs.
First time?
If you want quality, you have to wait. There is a reason for the wait, and its worth it.
Though i understand how you feel.
I feel for you. Delivery of alpha prime to my country from payment to receipt took only 5 days.
Been waiting since feb 22nd. Checking my email like its a paycheck coming in 🤣
@@Fkitilltank don’t hold your breath, if it’s going to the US then it will be like 3 months
Awesome video. Thanks Buddy
Thank you!! Been trying to figure this out as well :)
Would you be able to do a update for this? Seems like VPC config have changed somewhat since it was made?
That was awesome - thank you! ❤
I have always wanted to do this but I am not smart enough to figure it out on my own. THANKS!
thanx for the video!
when i do it all like you, i can bind the fliptrigger to missilemode but the game doesnt switch mode if pulled ingame. any hints?
For the default on off configuration im guessing its intended to be used as a safety switch.
Thank you....🤯 game changer
Thank you!, Wholeheartedly thank you!
Is it possible to make both grips go all red when button 2 is shifted into missile mode?
Omg you are the greatest thank you for this!
Mining/salvage , Guns , missiles, scanning ?
is the scroll wheels like a mouse wheel or is ok for the mining power ? as I didnt like using the mouse scroll for it
My slider on pinky on left stick disables all my ship movement
Any workaround on this or know why this happens ?
When I invert '1' and then pull trigger both 1 & 2 light red on joystick. Saved and such. Any ideas ?? Fun video this time around.
Thanks for posting this :)
You may invert the default state to S0 by setting the S1 row to "S1, 1, OFF" and it works great here at home 🤗
That is the secret to making it all linear in thought, thanks
Awesome thank you!
they did that for "Master Arm" When the trigger is "Down" it is in the way. Set mapping IN GAME .
As I understand it Virpil is not listed in ED unlike what I’m currently using with the Warthog.
Yesterday I received alpha prime + war brd base. I will say that after connecting to a PC, it does not work at all and even the led does not glow. You need to download the software anyway and update the firmware.
Thank you❤
thanks a million on this. ive been wondering how to set them to be a Shift modifier. sadly for Star Citizen it dont work like i wanted since in game its a Press On, Press Off button. maybe one day they will give us toggle missile on and toggle missile off like they finally did with the landing gear. rather than having it on a normal button i can finally use a toggle swith and up is gear up and down is gear down.
i did however set up this flip trigger to activate mining mode and fire laser, while flipped up i can still use weapons with normal trigger still. did the same for left stick for scanning mode and ping. cleaned up alot of buttons doing it this way
I got it all working, but I can't get it to exit missile mode when I flick the trigger lever back. It all works except for that in game
Thanks for sharing
They fixed this now flip down is now button 2 :) just for anyone wondering
This is kind of confusing xD
Thanks a lot though, I'll play around with this once my Alpha finally arrives.
My own bindings are a work in progress, but here's a quick pic I took that covers my basics: imgur.com/a/VFGaqgA
basically. anything targetting related (pin, cycle subsystems, nearest hostile, cycle missile type, shoot, etc) is on my right stick, and left stick is engine/shield/weapons energy, cycle friendlies, throttle (speed/accel limiter), cruise control, etc.
Thx for this man
I was trying the same thing
PD- My brain hurts XD
I received my Alpha yesterday, and since it's my first-ever experience with such equipment and DCS, it's sooooo hard :))) but it's interesting to dig into those little tricks :)
Thanks for the video! If you have a recommended profile of Alpha for most flights in DCS, and you can share it, it would be so wonderful and you'd have reserved place in the Heaven :)))
The reason it seems backwards is because it's a "safety." When it's away the safety is on.
That lever is the Safety Switch. This is why it is On when in Safe mode.
can you share you xml keybinds please
Over 21 min video that could be a 3-4 min one, tops. He's drawing us how his brain broke for an extra 15-17 mins.
11:42
Ce joystick coute une fortune !
C'est scandaleux qu'un joystick coute 50% du prix d'un PC !!! Minimum ...
I was like this like guide might like be kind of like a like way to like kind of like fix the kind of like problem I was kind of like having. The problem, kind of, is like when I’m like kind of trying to like follow it, you just spend half of the time saying kind of and like.
Anyway like, I kind of like gave up .
