    I got this exact 1911 and it's my favorite pistol. I've never had any issues with it, it's a solid piece. It's not picky on ammo. I would never sell this gun. This is the best 1911 for the money.

    I have this exact 1911 and I absolutely love it. I actually like the two piece guide rod too. It is rather heavy for everyday carry but that is made up for with how accurate it is because it balances out recoil

      Have you happened to put hollow points/other types of ammunition that isn’t regular ball ammo?
      If so, how did they fare?

      @@ginandcreme I have the exact same gun and I fired hundreds of hollow point HST and regular hollow point with no problem. I fired cheap Russian ball ammo with no problem either and mid grade ball ammo no problem. I do get the occasional cartridge ejection malfunction once and a while. It's my 1st gun so I dont know If glocks do that too or other premium guns.

      I would take this over a Kimber. Springfield has been consistent over the years and their service is top notch. Kimber made their reputation on high end rifles. From what I hear, the quality didn’t transfer to the pistols, only the high end price that comes with the name did.

      I agree. I have a loaded model from 1999. It still looks and runs beautifully. The only issue I had was hollow points hanging up while feeding. I sent it back to the factory and they polished the feed ramp and something else I can’t recall, all at no charge. That was the end of any problems. I shoot reloads for practice with no issue either. The only aftermarket mod I made was a set of Crimson Trace Laser grips.

    Not a fan of the 2 piece FLGR on my Loaded. 1sr I replaced it with a GI guide rod and stainless plug. Then I decided to do some surgery. I cut about 3/16” off the back part of the 2 piece FLGR. I carefully filed the cut end square, then filed the new joint smooth, put red locktite on the threads and put it together. It shoots just fine, and I can field strip it just like a GI 1911. Easy field stripping, and the supposed advantages of a FLGR.
    Wilson Combat sells an inexpensive stainless piece that provides a checkered front strap. It’s thin and lightweight, held on by the wood grips. It’s a big improvement if you prefer a checkered front strap.

  • @richardkluesek4301
    @richardkluesek4301 3 роки тому +2

    Got one about 15 years ago and changed out the guide rod and sent it back to Springfield to checker the front strap. They advised against attempting to do an undercut of the root of the trigger guard where it intersects the frame because there is not as much material there as on a Colt or some other 1911s with that feature. Too great a risk of cutting a hole into the frame in that spot. Back then too the FBI had bought some TRP versions for entry teams.

  • @Darthbetel

    Greatest 1911 made. After years of use I decided to go with mammoth ivory grips and a royal blue finish. The Trijicon sights are great but a bit antiquated given what’s available today. A very accurate weapon made even more so with the addition of a compensator. The 2 piece guide rod is a pain but the cycling and recoil, after an 18lb replacement spring, is pro grade. The trigger is excellent, not as nice as the PPQ M2 but excellent. Back to the guide rod. Unless you don’t care about your finish we all use a small screwdriver to remove the slide lock. Allen wrenches are cheap, I keep a number of that size around. Let me date myself…reminds me of looking for a P38 in the army. Look that one up if you’ve never eaten C rats.😃 as a side note, I have the Ronin 10mm. Excellent construction but a completely different animal. Gr8 video, thx

    I bought my Loaded Mod Springfield In 9mm I changed it a some with a bit of a little extra trigger job add a mag well and changed the grips, of course I kept all the original parts and sometimes use them for a change. I purchased it over 25years ago and it has never missed a beat, and looks as good as the day I got it. At the time I was also looking at a Kimber.

  • @CrazyPetez

    I have that identical 1911, and I agree with you regarding the FLGR, but it’s easy to defeat. With the guide rod removed from the gun, cut about 1/8” off the rear part of the guide rod. Working with a file, smooth the cut end until the front screws on, and the joint is completely smooth. A little red lock-tite and you’re good to go. I actually got the idea to shorten the FLGR when I field stripped my stainless WilsonCombat Protector. It also has a FLGR, but it’s enough shorter, so the plug can be removed. I considered buying one, but my modified one works so well, there is no need to buy one. But it’s always an option.

    First thing I did was replace the 2 piece guide rod with a G.I. guide rod, plug and an 18 pound spring. All parts from Ed Brown.
    I carry this instead of my Ed Brown's. To expensive and hard to replace the Ed Brown's.
    I bought the Parkerized Loaded 1911 and I'm well pleased with it.

    • @theia1653
      @theia1653 Рік тому

      An Ed Brown match barrel would've been a real upgrade, a tighter barrel to slide fit will have better accuracy. Though 2.2-2.5" groups at 25yd from the factory match barrel is more than accurate enough for combat, and even a sloppy 5-8" is acceptable. Too bad it's 'loaded' with MIM parts and a glued, not pinned, ejector.

Used 3 different types of ammo like ammo inc, Fiocchi (or whatever it’s called).
