    I love 1911’s from the Kimber Custom to Ruger, to Dan Wesson, Wilson and Nighthawk - all of which I own. Hat’s off to Springfield for making the 1911 a core offering, not like Sig that has all but given up. I’m adding a stainless Garrison and TRP to my collection. Great video!

    I own a Garrison in blued as well... not many manufacturers doing blueing anymore... more use a parkerized or dull black finish, so the blueing was one reason I love the Garrison model. I hate forward cocking serrations, and Garrison has none.... One thing the review didn't mention about the thin grips... it also has thin grip bushings, so if someone wishes to change to standard thickness grips... need to install standard bushings as well....

    • @JAD1225
      @JAD1225 2 роки тому +3

      No, you only have to get standard length screws.

    • @JK-vs2ir
      @JK-vs2ir 2 роки тому

      Standard bushings will add support to the holes on thicker grips, without which the grip holes may fracture under the stress of firing. May not, but I don’t want to risk an expensive set of grips if not necessary. Grip screw o-rings and grip bushing o-rings may be overkill to some, but they also help to better protect the grips.

    This is the best review of this pistol on UA-cam. Every detail is covered from finish to fit to practical accuracy. Thank you for making it. It has made up my mind for me to buy one of these as I used to have an A1 and it never let me down.

  • @jimmorrison306

    Note: someone passed this along to me way back, and they were correct. It is hard to judge the frame to slide fit with the barrel installed. That’s because the slide stop and link push the barrel up against the slide. That takes up a lot of slop. Really need to field strip and then check the fit without the barrel barrel installed.
    P.S. I really love this gun. Very pretty. Pretty much has what I would want to do to one.

    I think a lot of right handed shooters assume we lefties NEED an ambi safety on a 1911. We really don’t. It’s a nice bonus when it’s there, but we’ve been adapting to things designed for right handed people our entire lives. The traditional 1911 is no different. I chose the Garrison. The lack of an ambi safety really didn’t factor into it.

  • @michaelwoods9005

    I don't like the look of front slide serrations, and I like the fine serrations instead of wider cut ones. To me, the Springfield Professional is the sexiest-looking 1911 out there, and this has a similar aesthetic. I really dig the look of it. The only thing it's missing is a magwell.

    The Garrison and the Ronin are thr best value for the money. They work, nicely fitted,. Not great, but good. I just took my Ronin in for a trigger job and bow getting thr slide Cerakoted. The Ronin is a perfect outdoor 1911 once the slide is Cerakoted and a good truck gun. It's tough, durable, and accurate. I have les baers and Ed Browns but I won't cry if I scratch the Ronin or pistol whip someone.

    Beautiful guns !
    Problem, very unreliable. Many failures to feed.
    Very disappointing.
    Buyer be aware, 1911s are not plug and play like modern polymer semiautomatic handguns...
    They aren't nearly as reliable, they need more owner involvement. They're great for true gun enthusiasts who like to tinker.
    If your a casual gun person who just wants a weapon for protection, I wouldn't recommend a production 1911.

    I’ve got small hands and I still prefer the thicker grips. The recoil is significantly more noticeable to me with the slim grips. Maybe it’s just me. But one of the reasons I stick with the 1911 is because of my small hands. I can’t reach the trigger on a Glock, Beretta, Walther etc. The 1911 with a short trigger is a perfect fit for me. And of course I love the 45 auto cartridge!

      If the loaded or garrison had a lightrail, I’d be grabbing one in a heartbeat. Seems like only the Emissary, Loaded operator and of course TRP have that option, but they’re all almost double the out the door cost of the Garrison. Garrison does seem great for just a basic yet high quality 1911.

    I think the Ruger SR1911 is the best 1911 bang for the buck when it came out. In fact I would say the Garrison is late to the game with the sights, trigger, checkering, hammer, etc. The only thing I thinks is better is the blueing vs. SS and the lack of warnings, and billboard effect Ruger does on the pistol to make it so unattractive. I paid about 700$ for my SR1911-5" when it first came out and it has been an excellent shooter. Now I have a few others including a Dan Wesson and A Wilson Combat for comparison. Does it measure up ? No, but for the money spent and the all the upgrades Ruger added back then in 2011, it shows Springfield is just now trying to get in on the game, albeit- Late!

Lowered flared ejection port, trigger job. The Smith had stripped and polished the slide, applied a deep high gloss bluing and added nice coco bolo grips. It was a nice looking pistol. Despite the bitching people do about Springfield's politics, they are my go-to 1911 manufacturer. I've had several 1911s that cost a lot more than Springfield's offerings, and even went through 6 different Colt Series 70s of the "grail years" trying to find one that would work. Springfields, however have been nearly 100% out of the box. The only exception was one of their WWII models with a rough feed ramp wouldn't feed hollowpoints. After polishing the ramp, it's been 100%. All other Springfields from Mil-Specs to two TRPs have run right out of the box for me.

      My beef with Springfield amounts to them claiming heritage to the original government Springfield armory, which is a national historic site today. Sort of like Henry insinuating they have something to do with the original Henry, and neither has any truth to it.
