    I had the TRP Operator and was going broke shooting it. Picked up a Loaded Target in 9mm, upgraded the magwell and sight as you did, had the top cerakoted black, and did some Typhon Vz grips. Finished it off with some Wilson Combat 10rd mags and a Blackhawk Serpa holster. Liked it so much that I sold the TRP.

    • @GatCat
      @GatCat  3 роки тому +1

      45ACP is indeed twice the cost of 9mm. Those TRP’s are nice, but in the end, it comes down to what you actually shoot. I’ve got some wilson combat 10 round mags too. Very nice.

    I have run a two piece guide rod for nearly 30 yrs now and never had a problem with loosening. A dab of never seize on the threads or even heavy grease will add just enough friction to keep it from loosening.

      Front sight is From the Dawson precision website. The magwell is from Ed Brown’s website. I recently ran into bad malfunctions, with the firearm locking up. Chamber was too tight. Happy to have found your channel while browsing my “extended” CA options for a good 1911 in 9mm (LOL); my FFL thinks this is not in the CA DOJ roster but I saw this gun in it just today. Will probably need a new FFL. Now, how would you compare this gun versus the Kimber Target stainless II?, tightness of both guns? Reliability? Parts and customer service comparison? . My other 1911 is. 40mm Para USA P-1640 I brought with me when I moved here years ago and I am looking for an aftermarket mag well, do you know where can I get one for that double stack gun?. Stay safe and thanks for the info!

      @GatCat  3 роки тому +3

      Thanks man! I guarantee I can find you one under $1000 if you don’t mind subscribing and sharing my channel as much as possible. Anyway, I’m really trying to gear my channel towards educated CA gun owners. Not in a legal sense but basically the issue that you are running into. In CA, there is a Roster. So it all comes down to the part # This is P19134LCA. I believe Springfield also makes a version that has Novak sights on it, which makes it off roster. The Kimber is even trickier to get because in the two years of looking for one I have never found for sale. Even before this gun craze. Also, if you ever find a Kimber Stainless Target II there is VERY high probability that its off roster as they make thousands of those for the the free statutes. The finish is not as good, and it comes with a plastic Main Spring Housing. In. Addiction, there is no memory bump on the grip safety, so you’d be more much more likely not fail to fire the gun under stressful situations. There is a very large following for Kimber , they are beautiful guns. But ever since there Quality control issues, I won’t ever buy one, as their Customer service isn’t great either. Lastly. If there was a big demand for them in CA them we would see at least as many as the springers. I could be completely wrong on Kimber but I’ve owned over 4 Springfields and not one of them has malfunctioned one time. Even after 10K total rounds. Let me know you if you have any other questions. Thanks for reaching out. If you want to talk more on phone more about this let me know,

    • @GatCat
      @GatCat  3 роки тому +3

      @@sktt6188 it really depends on what company you go with and how they do the front strap checkering. There are three different ways. By hand, mechanical machining and automated machining. That said, mine was $140 for 25LPI, then $50 for magwell blend, $50 undercut trigger guard, refinishing $50. Shipping was about $50. The entire thing came to around $400 if I remember correctly. Most places charge $250-$350 for front strap checkering and have a very long turn around time. Clark customs had amazing prices and quoted me a 30-90 turn around. They had it back to me in 3 weeks. When I did get it back, I noticed that they had scratched the snot out of the gun. I didn’t mention this in the review because they made everything right by refinishing the gun again. The only issue was having to wait another 2 weeks to get it back again. I would recommend skipping the blending of the magwell unless its done very very well with a corresponding magwell. Mine just looks ok, not worth extra money as it does nothing different than a standard magwell. Sorry for the long response, I hope this helps. Lmk if you have any other questions.

    i understand purists wanting to gatekeep the 1911 and saying it 'has' to be 45 ACP as things i collect i believe in purism, too. were i a collector/purist i would tear the 9mm fans up, lol. my first gun will be a SA 1911 garrison 9mm, though, and i don't feel a bit bad about it any more than new corvette owners feel bad about their cars... which i don't consider real vettes, lol.

    • @GatCat
      @GatCat  5 місяців тому +1

      Honestly at this moment in time I would recommend your first 1911 to be the Springfield Prodigy. 9mm obviously. I have a 4.25” myself with a Holosun 507C. Regarding “purism” what is a 1911? Is it the original John Browning design of 1911? Or is it the 1911 A1, which saw the most military use? Can it have a beaver tail or long trigger? What about sights and grips? Can it be a series 80? The list goes on as every single component has been changed through the years. Personally, my deep appreciation for the handgun is what caused me to mention the sentiment regarding 45ACP. Considering all aspects and potential changes/upgrades to the 1911, 45ACP is simply rooted in its inception and pedigree. So why choose 1911 if not for the connection to the greatest American handgun of all time? Any “purist” touting the sacrilege of 45ACP most likely owns a MSH that is straight. Or upgraded sights or whatever else. So that, forgo the 45ACP and go nuts.

    • @ryanbarker5217
      @ryanbarker5217 5 місяців тому

      @@GatCat no doubt a purist would say the 1911 starts with the 1911, not the predecessors (which were 38, not 45 i believe) and maybe even claim it has to be a colt design. mostly they would probably say it has to be a 45 ACP. i get it, i say it's not a mustang if it has an electric motor. i'm sure they'd argue the A1 is a true 1911 because of that spirit and direct connection, perhaps even saying some of the changes were because of the military and not necessary improvements over a long history to remain relevant.
      i get gatekeeping and have no problem with it. if someone says it's not a 'real' 1911, i'm not going to argue with them because i fully understand the passion involved.

      anyway, if i have the time tomorrow i'll run up to the gun shop near me that has the garrison i want. i appreciate the advice on the prodigy, but after all the research and having held the garrison, i have to pull the trigger on a purchase eventually. if they have a prodigy i'll definitely check it out, hold some more handguns while there just to be sure while hoping they don't mention the words 'glock 19' to me. not sure what the paperwork entails exactly, i think the waiting period is 3 or 4 work days.

      @GatCat  5 місяців тому +1

      @@ryanbarker5217 the garrison is a great value I think. I know that some of springfields newer 1911’s used plastic triggers and a lot of MIM parts. However, these differences will most likely not cause the gun to function any worse. If you have never fired a 1911 9mm you are in for a treat. It’s like shooting a BB gun. Very easy.
