I did this earlier this year and coincidentally i did the exact same thing buying an oil guage but ending up scraping and re painting the needle, i also put a green filter behind the face to match the white leds to the rest, although it still stands out a bit much for my liking so i may get rid of the leds and replace them with a bulb to match the other gauges, i also think a bit of satin black on the bezel will match a bit better. Ive also toyed with the idea of making a custom face to match the genuine one as i have access to a laser engraver but i will have to let you know how that goes when its done, brilliant video though!
Hi Nathan and thanks for the great comments. There are a few things I'm not happy about with the tacho which are the white illumination, red led for the needle and the shiny black bezel! Oh, and I think there are too many divisions on the display but apart from that I'm happy! I've another identical tacho I'll try and address some of these issue but would be interested in the outcome of your laser engraved dial when you do it. Thanks for watching, its much appreciated 👍🏽
Hi I did something similar a few years ago. I ended up opening the tacho and managed to get a green plastic Ikea food container lid between the led and the screen. I put two layers and then I got the dim landrover green light

Good work. Of course, now you need a grey paint pen to dull down the black bezel (you know I am joking).
LOL, but....... Its funny you mention that, I'm not too happy with the red LED that lights the pointer and the white backlight is still too bright and as you mention the shiny black bezel surround so I'm afraid there is going to be a part three!! Thanks for the great comment and for watching 👍🏽👍🏽
@@MikeMakesIt It looked like the PCB can be pulled away from the dial so you should have room for any LED mods, he says, confidently. Though, as you say, the bezel may split if opened again.
Luckily I have another new one so can experiment on that! It might end badly but my fingers are crossed 😊
