As a Land Rover mechanic, 1.2 is great for open road, 1.4 is great all round, but it ALL depends on engine size and power, 200/300Tdi is better on 1.4, Td5 and onwards beter on 1.2, but still all to do on open road not off road use cheers
Bad idea unless you live in a flat area like Florida or Kansas. If you live in West Virginia don't even think about it. I live in Wales and bought one with a 1.2 from England and it was terrible (the guy lived in Norfolk - Flat as a pancake). I quickly changed it out to a 1.4.
put the discovery transfer box in my td5 defender makes it way more comfortable when your in 5th gear not so noisy mine sits at about 2250rpm at 100kmh / 62mph have a stage 2 tune as well makes it real nice to drive don't feel like you have to rev it's tits off just so you can pull the next gear
Blue gear is generally the go yellow is higher gearing and black is for lower gearing cheers
remap makes a good differance
I was wondering if adding HP would make pushing the higher gears easier. I need to learn how to re chip these ECU’s. Not many in the states can do it.
@@powerstanceimportexport5154 talk to alive tuning you could post your ecu to them or they might know someone in the states
Enjoyed that
My TD5 needs a new clutch and I’m going to get a 1.2 ratio TB from Winchester as I daily my TD5
Great video Joel. I have the 1.2 in my ‘86 ninety ex-raf truck. Works great with the 200tdi I swapped in.
Awesome. Are you seeing better MPG’s as well?
I’m getting about 25mpg
Great video pal !defo doing the transfer mod on my td5!
Awesome. Best of luck!

I have a 1992 200tdi with LT77 gearbox and LT230 transferbox doing 32mpg judge that

Wouldn't the speedo read the same since it's based on the output shaft speed?
No. Two output shafts rotating at the same speed with different sized tires would result in different speeds.
@@powerstanceimportexport5154 Oh. I must have skipped over the tire change.
Hi. That lt230 transfer case can handle big power? Like 4-500hp…lmk.
You got any job opportunities for a Landy Mechanic 😂😂😂
1.6 is really good for very big tyres 😂😂😂
Good job. Td5 is overrated by some in my opinion.
Td5 has a ecu more problems
An ECU may incur problems, but the opportunity for horsepower gain far outweighs them. Plus an ECU has zero moving parts, so failure is uncommon.
