    Hi Mr Mike, the clocks look nice with the bright ring, but imho, i would rather leave them all black. Nice work, as usual! Regards!

    Looks really good.for a moment the chrome fittings made me wonder if the indicator lights would reflect on them as it would remind me to knock em off bliming annoying when you realise they are still on at your next turning and the volume in a Defender to remind you well thats another thing. When you have time theres another puzzle for you
    Thanks for the great video

    When I was doing my speedo cable it was a piece of cake, but that bloody grommet that goes into the bulkhead........ It took a lot of direct cursing at it to make it go in!!!!!! I think in the future I'll just bite the bullet and do the td5 dash conversion. Have you any tips on the wiring for the difflock Mike? My warning light doesn't illuminate on the dash when it's activated, the dash lights are new so that's not the problem. Cheers!

      The diff lock switch itself is truly awful! The spades to connect the cables have tiny rivets to the contacts, and these shake and do not allow contact

      @@BritannicaRestorations I've a disco 1.2 transfer box sitting waiting to be fitted to it at the moment, any fiddling I can do with that before it goes in that might help me with my dilemma?

    • @BritannicaRestorations
      @BritannicaRestorations  5 років тому

      The Disco box was ok - they didn't use gaskets but silicone sealer , but I always replace the O ring on the intermediate shaft prior to fitting - they always leak
      Fit a new difflock switch and set it prior to fitting the Tbox with a multimeter to make sure it is working and adjusted right
      You may want to fit new seals to the outputs at the same time - OEM only!

      @@BritannicaRestorations solid advice Mike!! Have you had much experience with them fitted in a tdi? Is the rev difference noticable when travelling at speed? [Don't care about towing, my 110 will just be for cruising]

    • @BritannicaRestorations
      @BritannicaRestorations  5 років тому

      It's a popular conversion. But it will show if you have a fit or weak engineIt depends on tyres etc - remember the Disco had smaller tyres than the DefenderA rough rule of thumb is if you can pull away in second without too much stress, then you will be OKCheck out Ashcroft's site for a ratio calculatorwww.ashcroft-transmissions.co.uk/calc/ratio_calc.html

    Mine jumps too (88 110 V8) at low speeds - haven't tried to correct it or lube it, I can live with it for now. Anyone fixes theirs let me know. I did put a VDO tach in the left binnacle blank - works great. Illumination matches color but is much brighter - something else I need to look at - the Landy gauges are woefully dark...

    Hi Mike .
    As usual some good useful tips . Cheers .
    Any pointers on why , or solutions for , a "ticking" and "bouncing" needle on the speedo . It's had a new cable which I thought was the problem. But that hasn't cured it . Annoyingly it seems to vary at the point at which the needle stops "bouncing and ticking" . Some days it's fine after 30mph . Rock steady and {shockingly) accurate . On others it's still doing it at 50mph . Could it be the mechanism inside the speedo head itself that's damaged ? Or is it more likely to be the gearbox end that's causing the issue/problem ?
    Thanks
    Fattrucker

      I would be tempted to take off the speedo head and try it in a drill and see if it jumps about
      Normally the T case drive is not an issue as it is oiled pretty well - but it is a LR....

    • @BritannicaRestorations
      @BritannicaRestorations  5 років тому +1

      Maybe a better idea is to remove the cable at the T case and put a variable speed drill on the end of the cable and spin it to see if it is the head or the cable

    • @Fattrucker
      @Fattrucker 5 років тому

      @@BritannicaRestorations Thanks Mike . I'm guessing that if the speedo is good with the drill then its the T-case that's the problem then ? Which would be good as it was only rebuilt approximately 2500 miles ago according to the previous owner .
      Fattrucker

    • @BritannicaRestorations
      @BritannicaRestorations  5 років тому +1

      Yes that will eliminate the T case if it still jumps - just be careful and use very low speed first as I cannot recall if it turns left or right

    I think the speedo cables are made by the same people that make my pool equipment. Perhaps I should buy some stock in those buggers.

    • @BritannicaRestorations
      @BritannicaRestorations  5 років тому

      So did you silicone it or just run it dry?
      Did you try putting a drill on the cable end where it goes into the T case?

    When I recently took my binnacle apart each gauge had an o ring around, has anyone else found this or is this a deleted part as not on parts diagram, can only presume to stop vibration?

    • @BritannicaRestorations
      @BritannicaRestorations  5 років тому

      Indeed there is an O ring but it is an unlisted part, so I assume it comes with the gauges or speedo
      I sometimes don't bother but depends on the build, but you can buy O ring on a roll and make your own with superglue

      Excellent, thank you. Also top two screws on the binnacle Land Rover state 6x1/2 screw with a washer cup but they aren’t long enough to reach the spring nut? Could use a longer screw but can’t find one that fits in the washer cup, nerdy I know!!
