This was brilliant. John Baker woke me up to the amount of rubbish, we are putting into our waterways. The amount of crap in customised pop ups is frightening. Nice work john.
A very interesting interview and very focused on carp fishing baits and mysteries of what way a carp likes certain boilie flavours base mixes oils many years of carp fishing bait knowledge that John Baker 🎩 has learned over his lifetime I am taking him very seriously on his boilie recipes .
Love listening to John, very wise man. I've noticed that Eugenol has come up in a few podcasts, I'm unfortunately in a position where I have to euthanize one of my oldest koi. Upon researching the more humane methods than a priest, what I find highly intriguing, is that clove oil, high in eugenol, is used for anesthetic and euthanasia of fish, obviously like many things, the poison is in the dose, but I do find it extremely intriguing as to how something that has that potential, albeit at a far more diluted dose, is attracting the fish, i wonder if it is like a drug to them?
So if u Dutch bait company sells monstercrab flavour saying 'it's not the legendary Rod Hutchinson flavour and we're saying this because we can't see the difference, then they are definitely lying because it's not even possible to replicate even if you knew where it came from. All very interesting this. I only use spices but looking to add flavours this year.
Why do you think that? Throw enough of that in to a tank and you will have copper levels that exceed the safe limit. Of course we are talking extremes here, and obviously many carp eat copper enriched feeds without issue and even with some benefit. Edit- I should have been clearer on this in the episode. Sam
@@CarpChronicles Damn.... I was wrong here. Was thinking copper is more toxic but it's the other way around. Due to the solubility copper sulfate is more toxic. But as with all toxins it's the degree of exposure that matters. But how much is too much? I've been using Equivit. It has been used since '83 or something in boilies. Now it's discontinued so I'm looking for a better replacement (without any copper). Brewer's yeast tastes horrible but maybe it's partly an option. EDIT: They all contain copper.... Brewers yeast : 10-20 mg copper per kilo Alfalfa : 5-10 mg copper per kilo Spirulina : 60-100 mg copper per kilo Kelp : 3-9 mg per kilo Beef Liver Powder: 30-60 mg of copper per kilogram.
Thanks guys, enjoyed this one! JB
Legend 🙌💯🔥🤙

Nice work john.
Very good podcast, full of useful information and ideas, and another company producing things "in-house" Very encouraging for the home bait maker!
Glad you enjoyed it!

Absolutely awesome. Could listen to John all day.
I now listen to no one else.
Please watch his clips.
I met him at the big one.
Friendly humourous guy.
Literally listening to this whilst rolling honey milk base mix and tm1 maybe my favourite pods cast great listening guys
Maltrex was a fantastic flavour of Hutchies. I used it in his Protein Mix on Homersfield in the mid 80s to great affect.
Excellent! Been smashing all of your podcasts lately :D
Fascinating 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Great Podcast, really enjoyed it!
Can't wait for the book.
Honey's a cracking bait, caught my first carp on bread and honey paste. Leatherwood honey is good and my current favourite is Pine and Fir. Yum yum!
If I remember right, Rod first sold Monster Crab under the name Lugworm and crab

Frank Warwick podcast would be awesome, guy knows a sh#@ tone about bait
And hopefully a John Baker part 2 🤞
Witch frank podcast he ain't been on carp chronicles
I have been carp fishing for 49 years and I have never used a bait made by anyone except myself...
What happened to Bill Cottam interview
👌👍
Talking of spilt flavours next time you have Jason Rider on ask him about 5l of original tutti frutti flavour and his van...
I think you can't compare the toxicity of copper with the copper sulfate used in for example Hikari Growth.

I completely agree. Even water is toxic at too high of a dose (to humans) yet it’s one of the most important things for us to survive!
Can you put a link in comments boys can't find your website
Good idea! It’s- baitbros.co.uk
@Gavin Smith hi Gavin. What popups are you referring to? And what is SHR?
