Thank you so much very best wishes from Mr Ben Golby 👌 👍
Hey John, Jeff from Belgium here.Huuuge fan Sorry to bother you but is it in any way possible to get some flavours and basemixes into Belgium? Kind regards jeff
Been Carp fishing since 1984. Only used 3 different bait companies over that time. But I still get caught up in all the hype of these different bait companies. After watching this video it brings everything back to the basics of bait making. Its a pleasure to hear someone being so honest about how simple it can and should be. Thank you for that.
So much understanding of bait 70 years young I'd like to think you can pass on your knowledge of what you have done with bait and time spent learning what's good an what's not . Bait is the biggest edge over anything else an so many people just don't get it ..and I'm so glad about that as another carp rolls into my net ..all the best John always enjoy your teaching as I find it knowledge is power
Hello John! Thanks for providing the Q&A's. Off the back of this I have made my first purchase from you, to have ago at making the bait you supply. I wanted to test the philosophy you provide with "fresh is best" along with your expertly prepared mixes and recipes. The test was a great success in freezing conditions and has provided me with huge confidence. I have ideas to test your bait in different configurations such as using just the base mix vs flavoured for example (I'm sure this is not new to you or any of your followers).... You have really inspired me to take the time to appreciate the importance of bait and it's preparation prior to fishing, something I have often overlooked in my years of angling due to following the crowds and not being "a little bit different". Thanks for the advice, Yours sincerely Karl
John your an absolute gentleman, I love your whole ethos behind your bait making and products you provide they are second to none. I’ve been a big fan of your TM1 and Toppex sometimes mixed together in my own tigernut boilies. All the best.
Another great video John , I've used your flavours for years and if ever I've needed just a snippet of advice or information you've always replied and tried to help. As daft/simple as it seems you're on point about all the dusting , glugging and extra's you are urged to try on top of a companies bait is either a huge selling point or admitting their baits aren't good enough to achieve the results they claim as a stand alone bait that's ready to go. I've sent you a couple of questions in the past about some of your flavours and essential oil blends that I use and have used in my base mixes ( which I sent you the ingredient details ) and not once have you told me to buy this buy that etc , subtle changes like dropping some of the spices in my mixes to allow your flavours to do their job was a game changer . If I can echo anything I've learned from your videos "fresh is best" , making bait during the week for a weekend session and keeping them in the fridge is so much better than grabbing a kilo out of the freezer or off the shelf , if in doubt stick them in a glass of water for 12 hrs and see / smell / taste the difference for yourself and compare them . The difference is chalk and cheese . Long winded I know but thanks for being / staying a good solid old school angler / bait maker John . Tight Lines . Steve M
Great advice John, blending flavours is deadly as you touched on , the late Richard Holmes was a master of this process , RIP my friend and still using your flavours combined.
Absolutely amazing video, very informative and I'm going to start using your flavours and additives for hookbaits/ pastes etc.. the peach 🍑 plum and bunspice will be main ones but have used the bio shellfish on its own...no flavours and that pulled the barbel from down stream on the ouse years ago.
Thank you so much John. We are from the same era of carp fishing when we had to make our boilies otherwise it was just sweet corn or bread and honey!! No good at keeping silver fish at bay. On the eggs in bait thing, the observation I have to add is the freshness of the eggs, just like the freshness of your mix, may well be a big advantage. You suggested using duck eggs, interesting. When we could only learn by trial and error by our own efforts and friends prepared to share time consuming experimentation, one such observation I made is worth thinking about. An old friend of mine kept his own chickens for his egg supply and he used his own quality chicken feed too. Without doubt the yokes his eggs were always rich and yellow, not the washed out sort from battery hens. And double Yokers we’re common too. And they tasted so much better. Being an essential part of every boily using any old eggs for me is not the way to go. We were using the same base mix basically, similar flavouring and additives. But without doubt he was getting far more takes than me for a period of time we fished together. The difference, I used supermarket eggs, he used those lovely creamy ultra fresh eggs laid that very week from his own birds. Only when I went to farm shops to get better free range eggs closest to those from his own hens did I close that take rate gap. So for me freshly made bait made with the freshest creamiest eggs is so so important. Keep up the brilliant work John for as long as it gives you pleasure in seeing not just your own results but those who support you with their purchases of your products.😊
Dear john. Is their any chance of you doing a talk on how to include your flavourings products into the match fishing side of baits, particles, pellets etc for different species and which ones you would use for those species? I think john we are missing out on your expertise,it all looks so exiting to me and also i have a johnson ross in the next town where i can purchase them or your website from! I see you as the master so i hope you could do this because theirs so much rubbish out there! Thankyou!
A bait genius who is always willing to give good advice for free , and that's because he cares about fish welfare aswell and doesn't like big companies promoting stuff neither the angler or the carp/barbel need
Another great video. I have a question for you regarding paste wrapped around boilies. Would you recommend making-up the paste to the same recipe & quantities as the boilie mix or should the paste have a lower or higher level of flavour? I'm interested in your thoughts!
What makes a homemade / DIY bait better ? For me: - I can make fresh boilies quicker than I can drive to my local tackle shop (which is 3-miles away) and buy a bag of off-the-shelf - No preservatives - The chances of anyone using the same bait as you is very slim - this gives you an edge immediately JB baits are the best IMHO and there’s nothing better than catching on your own bait. And please do bring back the pick n mix or at least some triple packs.
It was me that found out through research and by prolonged tests on the bank ( not arm chair theory) that single hook baits with attractors and flavours of high or low PH seemed to get a far quicker response than baits that were more aligned to the lakes back ground PH Im friends with John since 1983 and think a lot of the bloke but i was a bit taken back by his hostile response i would like a better explanation of his reasons for the dismissal Then i can show research results from scientific studies that back my findings conclusively.
Carp detect a water source leaking in to a lake by the subtle PH change, bloodworm beds, Etc same way, i just happened to do tests with buffer solutions on blank placebo baits to see if this held water in the 80s and it conclusively showed definitive difference.
In addition, certain levels of acidity (and occasionally alkalinity) will promote protein breakdown via hydrolysis and/or fermentation. Specific enzymes will trigger far more effectively at certain pH's too. Whilst I agree with the vast majority of what John says in this podcast, I don't get his rant here at all.
@@leighroland7986exactly I’m the same i have respect for John and a long time friendship but it was a rant about that i found strange. I am prepared to be wrong but on this one but a serious number of English fish I’ve caught conducting tests on this very subject made me talk about these findings as far back as the mid 90s in print and on camera Thats real carp fishing Not armchair fishing
regarding dyes - carp see completely differently from humans they see about 50 times as many colors including some that are invisible to us - we see about 2 million & it is expected that they see about 100 million. carp eyesight is a very interesting area but completely ignored by carp-angling media / press & we incorrectly assume they see the same as us. there are lots of scientific papers out there that show we've been getting it VERY wrong for years... btw yellow is the best color most likely because it sits smack in the middle of a carp's visible spectrum.
Hi John! I'm an experienced angler & bait maker/baron. The best results I've ever had was leaving the egg shells in i knew that they were on my bait hard they would be shitting my base out all over the lake. Whats your thoughts on the egg shells? Flood& Frost was an excellent bait.
I think I'll have to find another bait supplier unfortunately, as buying some of your decent high end products for the 1st time & to only have them for a year longer, I need to find something for a bit more long term. It's a shame that I've only just started my journey & yours is where it is.
Big ups John, you Probably don’t remember so long ago so many faces but your Bunspice and basemix tweaks / ideas has lead to the downfall of some rare “proper ones” keep up the work and I will most certainly keep supporting you and your work, cheers j
Apologies for low resolution at time of upload, UA-cam is being very slow! Cheers

Been fishing since 1981 and only used one suppliers' mix for several years and the rest home made bait.

Been using John’s bait for nearly 20yrs.
Best I’ve ever found.
Thanks John, the oil question was mine as I’ve often questioned its ability to disperse in water, great chat 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Great video pal very informative 🎣🎣🔥
John, I have another question. Is there a reason we don't see apple as a flavour in baits?
Excellent John.
Very interesting subject . I'm not from the UK and find this fascinating . We do not fish with anything like this and maybe we should .

Enhorabuena por este vídeo, está genial, además me alegra que muchos de sus datos coincidan con mis experiencias.

Ive just seen the article on your web site regarding paste mixes which I think answers my question.
Thanks for sharing with us

brillent fella
John hi, how would you put together a feeding plan for the Trent (including hook bait) ?
Thank you
Brilliant video 😎
Would whole wheat powder be ok with semolina and soya flour for a binder
Chris Haswell sent me a sample of Pukka Salmon some years back, still in my fridge today.
Just a thought on the alternative to egg question. I wonder if aquafaba would work?
Would definitely be interested in the 3 packs of flavours. Great for us who only roll hookbaits.
Love how you said, gonna take a little break and have some water or a cup of Tea. Come back and state you’re having a Coffee.
Please please do the Plum and Ala Salar in the mini pack, 3rd....you choose john!
Would love to make some hookbaits up!
yes that's a mini pack I would purchase too..
How can i get ur baits m8 from you???😊
I'm still waiting for your book, John 😉
Love videos how much of your plum flvour can I put in a hookbait popup/bottom bait

If i was unsure id have avoided the journey that followed where i had considerable success by exploiting this theory

Was that the last of John on you tube.
Bring the pick and mix back again Please!!!!

fish can most likely see oils differently in water than we do too
Grill 'em, bake 'em, fry 'em...... ;-)
If you want to do the opposite of what others do. Why would you be making your baits round?
Hi John! I'm an experienced angler & bait maker/baron. The best results I've ever had was leaving the egg shells in i knew that they were on my bait hard they would be shitting my base out all over the lake. Whats your thoughts on the egg shells? Flood& Frost was an excellent bait.
It’s not just fish that should avoid wheat gluten that’s having a big effect of peoples health now we eat so much of it.
You can get out of the Jury Service if youre sole self employed as your income would suffer....you coukd be on a case for months not getting paid.
I think I'll have to find another bait supplier unfortunately, as buying some of your decent high end products for the 1st time & to only have them for a year longer, I need to find something for a bit more long term. It's a shame that I've only just started my journey & yours is where it is.

Ps 2022 show season
John I would challenge your egg opion.
How many fish feed pellets contain egg?
wtf 😬 no more JB flavours 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
Knows he bait. , but don’t know nothing about angling. Some of the nonsense he come with is laughable,
😂
He certainly does indeed know his bait, he been angling for many years, I imagine he’d out fish you any day of the week and twice on a Sunday 😂👍🏼
