Wisest words I’ve heard for a long time. By far the most influential video I’ve watched and will watch this year. Your words echo my views and experiences. Namely keep your mind widely open and keep your head down and do it because you want to do it.

This man just draws you in the more he speaks. Thanks to John, he's helped me with a bait I now make myself, albeit I'm in my early stages of using it, but I have had results. Those of you that are shy in having a go at something, just try it once. I got the gas furnace burner, a few bits to help me hand roll some baits, and the confidence it gives you simply following the tutorials he's done for us, is easy to do. As he said sometime ago. John's done all the hard work and made all the mistakes, so we don't have too. Don't over complicate your mindsets and keep it basic you can't go to far wrong. He's a tremendous guy and credit to the angling fraternity! Thank you John!

I started carp fishing back in the late 80s when everyone respected each other and how they fished we all fished differently with different results and you had to learn the craft of carp fishing but now days you can become a instant carp angler by spending x money on tackle watch all the vids out there , but all you are doing is copying everyone. There is only a frew anglers out there that I respect and John is one of them . A cracking back to basics film.

Well said John. I’m not on social media and I creep around like a ninja. No Spod, hit the margins, worm under a float. I love my angling. And I don’t speak to anglers with bait boats or drones.

Being a young angler in his mid 20s and having fished for over 20 years of my life i have never hear someone speak so much truth about angling. I'm lucky enough to be able to fish some of our country's best waters and seeing all of the full timers and the socal media addicts I think they should take a leaf out of your book. Very well spoken sir 👏 let's hope things change soon before they get any worse then they already are. Thank you for that video think we all need to watch this. Tight lines john 🎣
Thanks John, I was on a bit of a downer having angling knocked on the head for at least the next couple of months but I'm only 6 minutes in and you have bought a smile to my face as i sit here chucking to myself, olde skool rules! I even saw an article the other day saying catapulting and spreading baits out was a forgotten art???

Hi John, I’ve watched all of your videos - absolutely brilliant stuff. I even tried making my own boilies, Didn’t have the best success with them as they were slightly “rubbery” but I’m going to try again in the next couple of weeks 🤞🏼. Great advice. The social media side of fishing while it can be a useful tool at times for finding out where is fishing well or finding info about newer or re-established fisheries, it is mainly used to promote an unrealistic and unreachable level of fishing most people who aren’t “sponsored” or such can only dream of, between rods and reels, boats, bivvys and bite alarms, some people have the price of a new car in their gear, then they need a van to put it in, kilos and kilos of bait at exorbitant prices, there’s become a snobbery on the bank at certain fisheries it seems, and it’s the youngsters trying to get into the love of angling whom I feel bad for, those who feel they need the most expensive rods and the newest alarms otherwise they won’t catch those 40’s and 50’s like the guy on instagram or UA-cam, and if you’re not catching the biggest you’re almost irrelevant in that social media landscape. I’ve been fishing over 20 years (I’m 36) and I’ve never seen so many “tackle tarts” on the bank…. anyway great video and hopefully we’ll see more soon, Tight Lines 🐟

Spot on in what you are saying! I post on Facebook/Instagram, some of my friends on there bailiff a local club with me... then when I catch its "I've been meaning to fish there for a while bit not got round to it!" I don't put the weight on or where I've had it from or the bait used, they can figure that out for themselves, but I think from now on, I'll not post and show people who I want to see!

If someone sells a product and tells you to use less of it, then I'd listen. Even though I love over flavouring everything myself, and adding this and that to my bait. Jon's definitely changed my view on a lot of things over the past few years.

The question is "why am I going fishing?" I think for most of us it's a pastime, a hobby and an alternative to our normal everyday lives. I go to relax, not work.
What does it say about a person that they must publicize their catches, and that they get enormous validation from what others may say about their fishing? It says that they are looking outside for what they should get inside. Self-judgement is the validation that leads to self-esteem and happiness. Knowing what you did and how you did it, and what your goals are is far more important than the evaluation and praise from others. It is not entirely invalid to measure your success against that of others, but do it with full context, and give it only the weight that it deserves.
I enjoy the challenge of carp fishing, but I rarely weigh fish or photograph them, unless I know that I'm doing it for me.
Also, I generally do what you said John (longer rigs, longer hairs). I find that if I'm competing against the myriad baits that are thrown into the lakes I fish and I can't "establish" my own, by far the best option is a tiger nut.

Nice video, and good to hear that marching to a different drum is really an asset, and, if we don't catch quite as many as the the other man, do we really care? Maybe it's the journey that's the prize! Keep up the good work.

Well said John, i didnt even weight my PB or get a picture! i was far too excited for any of that obviously regret it now but it proves how much i love fishing, nothing better than turning upto a lake their all spodding and sendin boats out all day, you get rods out with a few singles or a small bag just enough for 1 suck from a carp to take the lot and bag up and every1 else blanks and everytime ya get a fish theres 5 heads in ya peg tryna see what ur using lol, always leave a bag of shitty boilies on show ;)

I've seen a big change in carp fishing since the late 70s and some not for the best.
Talking of social media, I reckon holmesy might have one of his little facebook episodes about the salt comments....
I reckon mark holmes knows infinately more about carp fishing than this clown. Cant believe ive just wasted 20 ninutes of my life listening to him.

I can give a good analogy to the over strengthed baits. I discovered some garlic sausages from sainsburys recently and being a bit of a sausage connoisseur I know how difficult it can be to find truly flavoursome sausages, well I found these particular ones were so strong I literally didn’t wanna eat more than one 😂😂 over salty, garlicky etc. So of course the same could easily be said of boilie mixes.
On the flip side, literally no one knows anything about animals senses, least of all fish, I don’t care what waffle pseudo science wants to spout, NO ONE KNOWS ANYTHING. Fact. So as far as I’m concerned if a fish is going to eat your boilie then it’s going to eat your sweetcorn, maggot, luncheon meat, worm, everything else in the world. What has made the decision on whether you’re getting a bite or not is….

A lot of truth in this video blog. For those insta anglers they are welcome to it. Certainly not my cup of tea that’s for sure.
fishing has become a very profitable selling market so there are companies all competing for their slice of the pie with their magic baits and chinese made luggage so social media is the quickest way to get to people so they show these big captures and their amazing baits and rigs...what they dont tell you is they were on the lake for a week or someone baited the lake a week before they arrived, they use fish finders, sonar, row out in boats and drop thier lines in specific spaces and then row out when they have a fish on. They dump kilos and kilos of bait in which will eventually ruin the water. Its all got absolutely ridiculous but sadly the tackle tarts lap it up so show people online they have never met or know...pathetic and ruins the sport

Instagram is just a promotional tool very similar to the UA-cam platform. The more content bait companies can produce the more customers they reach the more bait they sell. its a huge promotional tool that costs nothing and can be seen by hundreds of thousands of people it’s just good business.
If people wish to post there captures online for some discounted bait then fair play to them. The price of everything is going up and if you can get your bait for half price for a few pictures and your happy with it then go for it!.
Modern day carp talk. I can't knock anyone for using social media to their advantage. I'm not on anything over than you tube personally, but each to their own. 👍
