Nash Tackle Off The Hook Podcast - S2 Episode 27 - Terry Dempsey

- This week joining host Hassan is “The Urban Myth” himself Terry Dempsey.
Terry talks us through his life from him discovering fishing in the hustle and bustle of industrial London through to his modern-day escapades on the most premier of big carp waters.
Terry’s carping pedigree is undoubtable, and he recalls the incredible captures of his first 30lb fish from Hainault Forest and his first 40lber from Longfield way back in the 1980’s. To have both a 30lb and 40lb fish under your belt, still being in your teenage and during an era where there where literally handfuls of big fish around “the scene” it shows just how dedicated and talented Terry is.
Terry also talks about his lifelong experimentations with bait, from sourcing ingredients to trialing new flavours, all of which has not only led to his big fish captures over the years but also to the formation of Urban Baits. On the same theme of Urban Bait, he talks about the development of the business and we get the full story of his tv appearance on the BBC’s Dragons Den.
Terry also talks through his chapter on the infamous Wraysbury of old, where he was targeting just seventeen carp in over one hundred acres of water. Add to the mix tackle theft, shootings and a host of carp fishing greats trying to work their way through the stock at the same time, it's an eventful part of carp fishing history.
Moving onto Wingham Terry recalls his capture of some truly awesome carp cumulating in the capture of a 50lb+ common which his shared with his young son. Terrys' approach on the venue was very much against the grain but as you will discover the carp certainly showed a preference to how he tackled it.
Finally, Terry talks about his family life, how he has changed over the years and also him writing his book “The Urban Myth”. In true “East End” style Terry is frank, funny and very much paints an incredible picture of just a few of the standout moments in the life of Terry Dempsey.

absolutely brililant, thanks Tel and Nash! i've read a lot of carp books and the Urban Myth is definitely up there with the best. stories like the 'Grass Carp', and the rituals to try and put a specific carp on the bank.

A Great podcast.
Enjoyed that one👍
Really enjoyed it, very interesting and a good look back of the good old days.
Epic watch.. Thanks tel for spending ya time chatting. Love the cockney.. Tomato sauce sandwichs yes..
I'd like to know if he's been to Australia chasing carp.. Over here they've bred to astronomical numbers and it's illegal to throw carp back in. Back in the late 60s/70s my father and his mates would go hunting and pig shooting was the best because we'd camp along the Parroo channel. In summer the river was low and chockers with carp, a mate of the old mans had a old black powder Navy Colt handgun and as you reeled in the carp they'd shoot at it with the Colt. Some of these carp were stonkers, I don't know weight but I reckon easily a yard long.
That 3 hours went like nothing, what a bloke. Red spicy fish is doing some damage on my lake Urban all the way
Legend!! Would love to bump in to tel down stow one day
The term legend is used fair bit . Think the word can be applied to terry . He just seems to fit that role .

???
Terry has nothing to prove to anyone. Buy the book, it’s just the best read. COYI .
Nash are starting to slowly dominate the carp scene that's what I'm seeing over the recent years...
I would think korda are more popular.
Let’s hope so, bored of the shouting cretins from Korda. Don’t know whether they’re landing a fish or at a play-off final.
Hadir teman
Need Mr Shelley next. Korda started these podcasts, but Nash are pulling the strings now.
Carpcast was the first one , rest just jumped on bandwagon. This was a top interview, an old school legend. Agree though Jim Shelley needs to happen, dont care if its Korda, Nash or whoever just get him on .
And this Hassan proper makes me cringe man
I hate podcasts. More fishing less talking please
Why you watching it then ?
