Today on Quinton Reviews, we look at one of Nickelodeon’s strangest creations (although there have been quite a few!), the 2005 puppet show Mr. Meaty. Pretty much the opposite of something like Spongebob Squarepants, Mr. Meaty was canceled almost immediately but then was then buried so long that it didn’t finish airing until 2009. Most kids my age remember being upset by the program, but did it get a bad rep? That’s what I want to figure out today.

Crazy how that's the one memory everybody seems to have of this show. I remember watching it when I was younger and all I recall about this show in its entirety was being freaked out by that one episode.

Yup, I feel the same. I usually love weird looking puppets, but these guys just give me the heebie jeebies. I think it's due to the hyperrealistic skin and eyes mixed with the cartoonish proportions? Also the GOBS OF HUMAN HAIR!!!!!

this show was FAR FAR FAR ahead of its time, its more in line with 2021 meme culture than with the lingering 90s humor that the mid 2000s were used to. Some of it literally didn't make sense the entire thing was a shitpost, the world was not ready......not even close. Still one of the funniest shows nick has ever put out. I would of been 9 or 10 but I remember how much I loved this show when it was airing.
I have very few memories of this show & the only thing that rang a bell was the two main characters themselves, for being the ugliest things I ever saw.
Knowing the kid I was, I probably hated Mr. Meaty very much, but now these episodes seem almost funny in a morbid, random way. Still wouldn't like watching it now bc my distaste for gross-out humor remains, but I like how it finds new ways to make me go _"Wtf???"_ , credit where it's due.
Strongly agree cause I loved it when I was 10 and it was pretty great, now I definitely can see this as a major hit on paramount plus if they would've put more effort into the storyline cause the characters needs more development. Nickelodeon should've waited until now to have did that series

Frankly, the cannibalism isn’t even the part that bothers me. Lmao The creepiest/most messed up topics being explored is something that draws me in. It’s the terrifying puppets that bother me.

Yeah, it is messed up that I had to witness this as a kid. It was scary, yet, with audio it was slightly less of a freak show, and I guess I watched it as a kid because it was so weird, I was scared though

i remember i was pretty little when the show first came out (about 5/6ish). my mom took one look at that show and was like "no way you're watching that", so i don't remember a whole lot about the episodes talked about in the vid. but i remember wanting to watch the show so bad, and i was able to sneak an episode behind her back one time. it happened to be the nose zit episode. i remember being so disgusted by literally every aspect of that episode, and by the time i finished it, i no longer felt like i was missing out and never cared to see another episode ever again. i haven't thought about mr meaty in so many years, then this vid popped up and unlocked memories i didn't even know i had lol

I remember playing a Mr Meaty video game on the Nick website, it was like a fishing game except it was in a deep frier instead of a lake. Also remember the show, unfortunately. Weird though, the show rarely freaked me out as a kid, but as an adult it does.

there was once a thing you could do called the "fairly meaty mashup", i swear i am not lying but you basically copied clips from fairly odd parents and Mr meaty (and only these 2 shows from what i know) and make your own video that might appear on the channel

I remember seeing a short for this show right after The Amanda Show and it scared me so much it made me cry. This was years before it actually became a full series so by the time it aired I was much braver and the episodes I saw weren't nearly as horrifying. But the time I first saw it, man I was NOT ready!

This show came when I was 6 and ended when I was 8 going on 9. I remember LOVING this show and thinking it was strange but still hilarious. Watching this video at 22 I can’t stop thinking, “how tf did my parents let me watch this nightmare of a show??”. It’s so cursed bro. I was six or seven when this show first aired. I didn't watch it much. I don't remember why, but I do remember actively avoiding when it came on sometimes. I think it creeped me out a little bit back then. I couldn't remember the details from any episode, but as soon as you mentioned "tapeworm" a flood of memories rushed in. Crazy how that happens. What a bizarre show. Great video.
God this show was so nasty just the intro alone made my stomach queasy. I remember being distressed and confused by the episodes as a kid and honestly not much has changed lol. Thanks for all your awesome content!

I fucking remember this show! My family and I were watching nick and saw it late at night, and just had the most "wtf is this shit" experience ever. We treated it like a surreal horror short and loved the series. The whole experience is probably a huge reason why I enjoy surreal horror media as much as I do now, honestly.
I remember the DVD with the ‘SpongeBob Medieval episode’.
Before the episodes, there was a trailer.
It featured all of the different shows, only on Nick or Nick DVDs.
During the trailer, it featured plenty of Nick shows and Nick Jr. shows- but I remember specifically one.
The Mr. Meaty part. I remember just that showing up for about 10 seconds or less, but I remember it so specifically being the only one.
Thank god I didn’t watch it until I was at a mature age or oh my god, I would’ve been petrified for life.
I actually forgot the title one time so I had to look up “Puppet show about burger restaurant” and Mr. Meaty showed up.
Memories instantly surged in my head. I watched a few episodes and.. yikes.

This show basically is a fever dream to me, since I was very sick most of them time as a child but my brother loved this show and kept watching it while I was sick and trying to sleep on the couch. This show disturbed me and even haunted me in my nightmares.

I remember kinda liking Mr. Meaty back in the day, and I remember liking the super uncanny, slightly distressing, surrealist style of the show. I remember Mr. Meaty, Courage the Cowardly Dog, and Invader Zim sparking my fascination with the gruesome, disturbing, and horrific. Also I fall into that group of 6-10 year olds that caught it early in the day
Guess i could say the same. This.. show on the other hand.. still has me with that tapeworm episode. Just now I'm realizing that maybe this episode was a reasons why i was so afraid of worms growing up. (Loved Invader Zim, Courage the cowardly dog, and Billy & Mandy tho)

What you described at the beginning happened to me with the movie "the lost boy" where I faintly remembered him drinking blood and a few other small things and tried to look for the movie for years and when I found it I was just stunned.
Mr. Meaty is one of those shows I don’t remember very much but still smile when I think about it. The jingle, “Where friends meet to eat.. meat!” always sticks with me.
The show may have been weird but it had the BEST theme song. "All of God's creatures, fresh off the grill. So come on down to Mr. Meaty, where friends meet to eat MEAT."

This show triggers my fight or flight so intensely. Something about the way the puppets look - I think it’s the true to life skin tones combined with the squishyness of their movements and the general grossness of their design - makes them register in my brain as puppeteered corpses and it’s SO upsetting. I’m a big fan of weird/creepy art styles but this show does somethin to me on a very visceral level. Gross, dude.
Honestly love the whole gender burger thing being shown in a positive light. Idk, usually when a character changes gender it's shown in a way where they're unhappy or are only doing it for a reason, but here it's kijda nixe to see. Which isn't what I thought I'd say from watching this show as I only knew it as the cannibal/tapeworm puppet show.

So, Nanalan is interesting. There's a pub in Nova Scotia (Canada) that plays old VHS recorded tapes of that show on repeat during the late evenings. It's quite hilarious in that context with others.
I remember seeing the promos for this show and thinking “Wtf is this? This show looks nasty” and thankfully I wasn’t home to watch when the show aired but Nick kept re running the 1st episode and I kept skipping
I feel like i'm the only person that actually enjoyed this show as a kid. I was weird kid that liked creepy kid shows like "ren & stimpy" and "Invader zim." Even though this show bothered a lot of kids, I think they still get a A for effort in my book for creativity and bringing back puppetry to a newer audience.
I loved this show as a kid too ! I liked the labyrinth and dark crystal and thought puppets were sick as fuck. Practical effects will look good forever !!! We need more !!

I figured I was probably embellishing how intense and creepy and hypnotic this show was- that's happened a lot with stuff I watched as a kid- nope, it's just like that, it's all close-ups and the voice acting hardly matches with the puppets.
It's so weird, there's nothing creepy or disturbing about the premise. Two guys work at a fast food joint and bizarre shit happens to them. Could've been like regular show. But somehow they turned it into the most cursed show on Nick.
I always felt like I was the only one who remembered this show, and I DO remember a few episodes that were rather weird. One was the Planet of the Apes parody you mentioned in the video, but another was an episode where everyone in the mall becomes meat-obsessed zombies (including a hippy that said "Toooofu, I mean, MEEEEEAT!!!").
Though I feel this show aired right when Nickelodeon was starting to go downhill, just a few years before it's "All Spongebob all the time!" phase started, which became slightly more noticeable immediately after Avatar: The Last Airbender (the best show Nick ever aired) finished it's run, and became a LOT more noticeable after 2008 when the Writer's Strike happened. To put it simply, Mr. Meaty was FAR too experimental, and it's scared Nick ever since then that they don't want to do anything bold or experimental ever again, and instead stick to their bread and butter, being non-stop Spongebob reruns.
I probably only saw 2 episodes of this show as a kid, but i was obsessed bc it felt like rare media (it only came on at 2am by the time i was aware of it). The episode where his nose fell off remains in my brain vault and comes back every few months as i wonder why nobody talks about this show
