Honestly those videos are still charming. I don't watch them often anymore but I think we should let kids do content like that. Just doing full-on animation isn't always the most available way to turn your stories into content, after all. I used to watch Super Mario, Angry Birds and Sonic the Hedgehog videos that did that all the time when I was around the same age as their creators.
What's funny is that there is this very famous rap artist in Germany, who dresses himself up in a SpongeBob-Gangster costume and calls himself "Spongebozz". It's really maddening and I am not entirely sure that this guy isn't some kind of twisted revenge from Germany against the rest of the world.

Part of the reason this is more messed up than portrayals of other cultures has a lot to do with a long enduring history of legit political propaganda and really awful human rights violations associated with those portrayals. French people loving cheese and bread too much is just a stereotype exaggeration of their own cuisine, annoying at worst, but the black people loving watermelons joke literally traces back to extremely racist sentiments and tropes that were started right after the civil war ended.

Dude, when I was a kid, I watched all the Spongebob Saw episodes several times and they were the most intense and extreme thing ever. It was like watching a movie and it was super immersive for some reason.
It's because it's taken straight up form the saw movies with the same plot plus a childhood fav character so yeah it would be interesting to a small kid trying to feel adult watching spoopy gore movies

The original creator of the Spongebob SAW videos actually did a couple of remastered versions in recent years. They were made in MS Paint just like the old ones, but you can tell a lot more effort was put into the designs and animation frames. Not to mention those weird stick-figure guys were all replaced with characters based on the fish citizen designs commonly reused in Spongebob episodes, such as Fred ("MY LEG") and the Chocolate Guy for example.

The craziest thing is that the saw-themed parodies are actually a pretty coherent retelling of the first two saw movies. I mean, the needle pit, the gas house, the twists... that surprised me more than anything.

I don’t know if you ever saw it, but I had a lightly-viral video back in the early days of UA-cam where I synced up clips of Spongebob to “If You Were Gay” from Avenue Q. It was removed from UA-cam a few years ago for copyright reasons, but I used to be so into making horrible AMVs back in the day 😆

When I found spongebong hemppants at age 9, I just assumed that spongebob was a drug addict, Patrick was made of garbage, and that squidward was a tampon. I still thoroughly enjoyed it.
I saw all three of these when I was waaaaaay too young to see them. Spongebob in China is one of the first UA-cam videos I ever saw and I found it hilarious even though I had no idea what they were talking about. I thought they were saying “honorable Shermin” at the beginning. I didn’t bongpants at all but mimicked it much to my parents disatesfaction. I used to watch the saw ones not knowing what Saw was until I was eventually “scarred” and vowed to never watch another one again. This video is the first time I’m laying eyes on it about 10 years lol.

Part of the reason this is more messed up than portrayals of other cultures has a lot to do with a long enduring history of legit political propaganda and really awful human rights violations associated with those portrayals. French people loving cheese and bread too much is just a stereotype exaggeration of their own cuisine, annoying at worst, but the black people loving watermelons joke literally traces back to extremely racist sentiments and tropes that were started right after the civil war ended.

Dude, when I was a kid, I watched all the Spongebob Saw episodes several times and they were the most intense and extreme thing ever. It was like watching a movie and it was super immersive for some reason.

The original creator of the Spongebob SAW videos actually did a couple of remastered versions in recent years. They were made in MS Paint just like the old ones, but you can tell a lot more effort was put into the designs and animation frames. Not to mention those weird stick-figure guys were all replaced with characters based on the fish citizen designs commonly reused in Spongebob episodes, such as Fred ("MY LEG") and the Chocolate Guy for example.

Spongebob in China is one of the first UA-cam videos I ever saw and I found it hilarious even though I had no idea what they were talking about. I thought they were saying “honorable Shermin” at the beginning. I didn’t bongpants at all but mimicked it much to my parents disatesfaction. I used to watch the saw ones not knowing what Saw was until I was eventually “scarred” and vowed to never watch another one again.
