Probably won't get a Parthian ep out this week due to my schedule being messed up after being away last weekend. But now that I'm back our next week schedule should be back to normal :) Time stamps down below! Part 1 - Campaign Overview: 4:10 Part 2 - Military Overview: 17:49 Part 3 - Verdict: 52:15
Suebi Pikes are absolutely amazing. Yes they don't have a lot of armor, but you don't use them like you do Greek pikes, you use them how the Scottish used theirs. Mobile Schiltron with Archers protected in the middle and highly mobile skirmisher cav on the far flanks. Where Greek pikes are basically a slow defensive anvil, the suebi pikes are a highly offensive platform with more men to enhance that aspect, almost a "If you won't come to use, we'll slowly march at you and you have no choice. You stretch their line out as far as you can, while greek pikes are actually best used in the proper square blocks with slight gaps inbetween them, Suebi pikes form a massive front with no gaps. EDIT: Also should be noted that Suebi pikemen can actually RUN, which makes them technically twice as fast as Greek pikes. Their ability to engage in a long line, and then just completely double envelope enemy armies is unrivaled.
Finally, the germanic tribes! I like how they added more germanic factions unlike vanilla which only one. What’s more fun is that they somehow make a diverse faction with such a limited roster. The only thing I hate is that their calvary is **** and only their king can use decent horses. Still, great video like always.
I agree, its awesome that the team made the germanic factions more diverse, especially the Cimbri which are quite different from say the Suebi. I don't think the Suebi cav is tooo bad to be honest, that heavy cav unit has very good melee stats and can charge infantry. But compared to most other factions they are quite bad I guess.
Well what makes it bad compared to other factions is the population usage. Unlike the greeks, romans, or even punic and other eastern factions. Even the britannic factions have better horses in their citizens class. The horses from the germanic tribes (the good ones) takes from the noble pool which is already super scarce compared to the other who can get the same quality from either the warrior class and the regular citizens or even foreigners. I suppose it's how you use them, then again the germanic faction people play with foot soldiers so I suppose their calvary is not the one that shines. And thx for your insight.
Excellent point mate! Although in the early game the Suebi will be fighting Germans and thus can draw from their pops. But even then the noble pop will always be a struggle I imagine. Nice point mate and thanks for your own input! :)
So one trick to getting confederations is to wait until mid game to fight people of your own culture. This can be challenging since you won’t be absorbing as many provinces that have your culture and allow for better recruitment but it can pay off. You build up your strength and tech some of your generals for improved diplomacy. Then when you have 4-10 provinces you start to turn on your culture group targeting the smallest factions. You usually have to destroy their armies in the field but when they are gone you can ask for a confederation. The other faction will usually pay you to confederate and you save more of the population since the city wasn’t attacked. If you have a phenomenal relations you can get them to do it just by declaring war. I did that in suebi campaign and acquired about 6 provinces in the north mid way through the game after conquering swaths of Celtic territory.
Interesting technique mate! I've seen it once or twice in a campaign but I haven't gone out of my way to do that. Might be useful for my Lusitani campain
High quality work as always. By the way, during the presentation of units abilities (since it's being conducted in a pre-battle setup) formations like phalanx or shield wall are not being portrayed correctly when you turn them on. To show unit in a fromation, after toggling it on, just press forward arrow on your keybord (↑) and voila - they're in a formation in all it's splendor. Keep up good work, mate.
I'm still yet to play any TW campaign to its completion LOL :D Or at least to the end screen. I usually just play until its obvious I'm going to win/lose and then go onto my next :D One day I'll have to force myself. Maybe for a mega Rome campaign?

Another great video very informative although I I'm still waiting for the bacteria overview, also I was just wondering what brightness/ gamma settings do you have it's just your game looks a lot more vibrant than mine.
Welcome back, mate! Waiting for parthian series, but meanwhile i got a question. On which PC specs do you run a mod, and do you have some advice to otimize a graphical settings?
Thanks mate, I use a i5-4690 @3.5Ghz and a GTX 1070 6gb with 16 gb of ram. I also run the game on a ssd. In general I'd suggest using low particle graphical settings as they can cause a big drop in fps during battles, lower textures also will help you. It really depends on what kind of issue your having really. However, if you have a good GPU similar to mine or above then I'd suggest playing on high/ultra graphic settings for most settings as it will force the game to use your GPU power instead of focusing on your CPU. Rome 2 is a super CPU intensive game so that is why people usually have so many issues.
@@endrewcoolysh3013 That's great! Oh and water textures being lowered can help as in the past some battle maps actually had water underneath the map even if it was a land battle. This caused the game to spend power rendering a lot of water. I'm not sure if this was fixed but it could be helpful for you :)
I've done a long campaign quite some time ago. Plus I also do a few short campaigns when I'm researching these factions for the videos. I haven't uploaded any lets plays of this if thats what you mean.

@@Immersaholic Lack of mass production of armor does make bad frontline units. Legionaries can take some stabs or slashes to the armored chest and keep fighting but bare chested men die after the first or second strike.

In DEI,if 2 general have a night commander ability(ability to do night attack) and of the general attack, will the other one reinforce because the same skill,or it did not work that way?
Before 1.2.7, it wont, it'll just 1vs1 army. Both side cant reinforce, even if your other army in range have night battle ability. But for 1.2.7 DeI team do some trick, i dont know if its totally gone, or need higher tier night battle card. I think you underestimate the power of stealth and ambush mechanics on the battle field. It means you have to fight in a different way and make the most of forests etc, but rely on "suprise" morale shocks, instead of having a main battle line you need to draw the enemy into fighting on your terrain. Armoured units get debuffs in forests...
It can certainly be powerful, but when your fighting the ai the majority of the time you can still beat their armies without using heavy tactics. A simple, hold the enemy line and outflank them is what most battles against the ai come down to. Against players though, the stalk ability especially is super deadly!
Not a good faction to play, it might have some uses in PVP, but not in the campaign, the lack of armor, meh damage, crap start, low morale for most, and of the whole game engine being useless with blobbing and tagging will hinder you, adding in that dei loves to spam archers and slingers in most stacks will rip them to bits, and ofcs units last a lot longer so the whole big charges on some makes 0 difference as they won't route them and will get hacked down quickly... 2/10 - try them but there are many many better factions. edit: oh and they have 0 movements on the map, like 1-2 inches tops, it can take 7-8 turns just to reach the first neighbor. - good vid, but trying to big up a useless faction
That's a very strong opinion mate :D I think the Suebi have some interesting aspects that make them at least mid-tier strong. Such as their large 300 size units of swords and spears. Then they have their noble swordsmen that while they bad armor of like 20 (i think), they at least have great attack and a relatively cheap. Great for online battles at least.
Love your videos BTW bro. I've watched like all of them lol. But yeah with the suebi I could see them being good using night attacks and ambushes in single player but I guess my preference has always just been a strong front line with light troops and Calvary on the wings for envelopment and I guess with the suebi I wouldn't be able to rely on my front line at all. It would be like the battle of Cannae with the Romans and Carthage except my front line would collapse and the wings would be just as weak.
