    Maybe I'm a bit late, but about Magas: He was the step-son of Ptolemy I of Egypt, son of his wife Berenice with an earlier husband who died during the Diadochi wars. Berenice is also the mother of Ptolemy II "Philadelphos, " making him and Magas Step-brothers. Magas was given the governorship of cyrene, a greek colony in northern Africa annexed some years prior, by Ptolemy I. After his step-father died and his step-brother became king, he rebelled and declared independence., becoming king of Cyrene.

    Amazing overview of the faction. However, the Euzonoi and the Thureos Swordsmen are actually very powerful and cost effective skirmisher-melee units, and there are in fact even talks among the Devs to nerf their missile abilities.

    • @Immersaholic
      @Immersaholic  8 місяців тому +2

      I found their skirmisher abilities to be helpful, but their melee stats wern't taking up a slot in my army when I could use other skirmishers to do the same job with missiles. I'd rather focus on using more AoR units or mercs

    Alexander used hoplites at the Flanke of his pike formations, who we're in the center. You don't have to decide between hoplites and pikes you can always use both. Especially since pikes lack the flexibilty hoplites have.

    I have a Seleucid campaign going on that is kicking ass. Got six armies, five of which are full stacks. One full stack navy and one half stack. Then I invaded Egypt and took all of their clay. Currently making 20,000 a turn.
    Didn't manage to keep most of the eastern vassals, but the one who stayed loyal took literally every recalcitrant former vassal out. Lydia hasn't expanded, but they remain strong. Once and I finish off the Arabs, I think I'll head north and clear out Anatolia and backstab Macedon (not truce breaking though)
    Edit: oh, literally everyone loves me. The one Arab faction (Nabatean?) Is the only faction to have declared war on me, other than Egypt and the rebels. Everyone else is paying their entire treasury for trade and non-aggression, even the Britons and Germans. Rome and Carthage both paid tribute. I am like a God and all fear my wrath

    • @tillercaesar-kq4ou
      @tillercaesar-kq4ou 8 місяців тому

      Nice, you’re still kinda mid game tho with only 6 armies. Even the Parthians are friendly with you? I know they’re usually pretty rude.
      What about your army composition? Do you continue the alexandrine legacy of having a Macedonian phalanx aka pikemen?

    • @johnjaeger2968
      @johnjaeger2968 8 місяців тому +1

      @@tillercaesar-kq4ou yeah, I am at turn 47 still so I don't even have the reforms. The Partians are at war with Atropatkan and Baktria - latter of which is my defensive ally. So far Atropatkan has shielded my satrap so they don't have a border with Partha. The Partians aren't really friendly, but they don't hate me either, iirc. I'd have to load it up to double check and it's late already. I think they're a very light red, so with my overwhelming power and the lack of a border, they're just not prepared to attack. So in my mind, they may not like me, but they're begging for non-aggression which makes them 'friendly' enough. I don't play the east much since, so I don't know off the top of my head how much of a jerk they should be. Obviously historically, they were, but that's another story.
      My army composition, roughly speaking, is pretty standard. I have 3-5 pikes as my core frontline. Then I have 2-4 levy phalanx (Seleucid hoplites in the armies of the king and heir) to use on the wings. So if I have 5 pike, I use two phalanx; or 3 pike and 4 phalanx. Then I like to have 4 sword/axe infantry, two for each flank. So that brings me to 12, including the general. For ranged I either go 4 archers, or 2 archers and 2 skirmishers, they I prefer t mix archers and skirmishers. Then the rest is cavalry, 4 melee/lancer and 2 skirmisher cavalry.
      So as you can tell, I tend to be fairly aggressive when it comes to the battles. Pinning the enemy front with pikes and then hemming the sides with swords. The regular phalanx typically hold back to either reinforce or ward off flanking attacks while the cavalry swing round hard to hammer the rear flank to kill ranged units before driving into the rear flank of the enemy spears and swords. I'd drop the archers, tbh, but I'm paranoid about horse archers lol and I'd rather have some veterancy trained before I run into them

    @Miller09095 8 місяців тому

    When I played I managed to keep the Satraps at +/- 10 relations for about 20 turns or 5 years before relations seemed to stabilize, though Egypt liberated Tyros which seemed to also give a major boost though so there was some luck there. I maintained an army in Charax and Seleukia each which also seemed to keep the Satraps from going all in on war.
    Once the Satraps chilled out, marching my armies from Mesopotamia to the west to continue growing the Empire. In Hellenic Egypt and Anatolia was finally doable. Having the Satraps is kinda nice with the income they provide though I'm not sure if I'll see future issues with them.

    • @Immersaholic
      @Immersaholic  8 місяців тому +1

      Best of luck with them! If you can keep them friendly through the script once it does trigger I think you'll be just fine. Often there is only 1 faction at most that rebels

  • @chottomatekudasai-kun3887
    @chottomatekudasai-kun3887 6 місяців тому

    number of armies (and i believe number of total units) also affect the satrapy script. Basically, if you have more armies than each satrapy they will (most likely) not rebel.

    Quite a coincidence considering I'm about done with my own Seleucid campaign. Maybe since I declared war on Media and have my client states join me is the reason they didn't break off from me, but whatever. Now my go-to strat (round 2 since the Saba review) is pretty much what you suggested: make friends with Armenia and kill off Media, and make sure to do military actions like sacking, looting and raiding against them so that your client states actually like you for it. I went on ahead and used my navy versus Egypt; wasn't easy but really epic with a two front war going on, kinda like the Romans.

    • @Immersaholic
      @Immersaholic  8 місяців тому

      Your war on Media probably was an excellent reason to have all of the satrapies unite! Very clever strat because they will love everything you do against their enemy!
      Good luck with the rest of your campaign!

    Pike man are great but they are not that great in offensive battle though, like you have to walk them in a rain of javelins to the enemy and by that time they have lost like 20 percent of their men. Sometimes they don’t even line up right so you have to drag them back and reform them, honestly just use silver shield swords man once the reform is enabled, they are even better swords man than Roman legionnaire

    I would like it if your unit overview took into account the cost effectiveness of a unit. For example, yes greek javelinmen are terrible one-on-one against a peltast, but they are soooooo cheap, that they fill a good role in the campaign. Same for javelin cav, which is an anti-cav specialist, very useful to defend your pike flanks...

    • @Immersaholic
      @Immersaholic  7 місяців тому

      Every single unit in the game "can" be useful in certain situations, I definitely take cost effectiveness into account but that is also going to be situational. A cheap javelin unit is helpful if you have no money and only want to use their javelins, which is going to be a rarer basic need then say your mid-tier peltast that can use their javelins to give the same amount of damage in addition to actually being useful in melee.
      Everything is situation based and comes down under the "it depends" sort of statement.
