I think it's like 2.8 million units worldwide :D Whether my crank is ok or not at this time I will need to get a replacement anyway. I ain't riding a crank that has a factory defect in the design, it's extremely risky and straight up irresponsible... Just looking at the internet stories it's much more than 4k cases. I believe 4k is just the offical number of cases registered by shimano. A lot of folks never bothered to go to shimano with their delaminated crank because they didn't even know they could so the number is a lot higher. Crazy situation but the only right call for shimano is to replace all the units no questions asked. The recall program here in EU starts monday. Looking forward to the follow up :) Cheers!
Hard agree, it has to be way more than 4k and they just never reported it. Definitely touching on the total impact of the recall in the follow up I'm working on now and the idea of a total unit replacement.
I just found out in my research for the next part that this is what Australia did. They essentially told Shimano to shove it on the bike shops inspecting cranks and to replace them all immediately.
Got the replacement, a 54/40 . Mine was 52/39. REÍ said nothing they can do, I’ll contact Shimano and the BBB, it’s unacceptable Shimano not replace with the same crank

I would go ahead and take it into a shimano dealer and see if they’ll accept it for exchange. To my understanding they should, and as far as personal opinion shimano should do the right thing and replace it. But so far this whole thing seems to be a nightmare. I’m working on part 3 right now because class action lawsuits have been filed in the US. And greetings! German food is some of my absolute favorite in the world.

Hard agree, I learned how to ride on Campagnolo Veloce and absolutely loved it. Might be time to look into changing over.
